  1. I've been lurking on the forums & getting my bearings with the Affinity suite for ... I actually don't want to look up when I bought these, because it's kind of embarrassing how long I've had them & haven't used them for much. But today when I was poking around, I ran across @frankentoon's awesome tutorials (specifically this one: http://www.frankentoon.com/single-post/2016/05/13/Toon-Lab-Course-2-a-simple-fantasy-creature ) and, well this happened:
  2. Hi, this semester I used for the first time Designer for my final presentation posters in university. The site plan and the sections are drawn with Vectorworks (CAD software) and exportet as PDF for Designer. I was delighted how easy it was to adjust colors and line width of the vector parts and just switch to pixel persona for some nice background textures. I used Photo to add the diffuse fade out on the edges of the site plan. I handled the drawings as individual files and embeded them directly into the final layout file. Only the site plan was to heavy to handle for my late 2011 MPB and so i had to export and embend it as a tiff file. Maybe the size (DIN A0@300dpi) and the live blur filter could be an explanation for this ;) Feedback welcome! https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13340316/RundgangAffinity.pdf(~34mb)
  3. I just made this video of a single panel of a ten-frame storyboard for an advertising agency. Drawn and rendered in AD using DAUB brushes (Marker and Concept brushes -thanks to the creator of these!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-pNbEXMA3Y&t=5s This has streamlined the process very much for me. All the best, Kevin
  4. Hey guys! Just wanted to share a little character I made for fun with Designer using some of my texture brushes. Any comment will be more than welcome as always! Cheers!
  5. I use a Surface Book with Affinity Designer and frequently I end up drawing little spots around the canvas when I rest my hand on the screen to draw. In MyPaint there was a way around this in Preferences > Devices where you can set what pointers interact with what like so: I was wondering if Affinity Designer could benefit to gain some options like this. The current workaround for this is disabling the touch screen in device manager on my Surface so that only the stylus pen works, and this frequently gets annoying when switching back and forth and not being able to use my fingers to zoom or press buttons in the interface.
  6. Hi guys, here is a logo for an euro-dance tour which begins in a couple of months in Spain. We created every single piece of artwork with Affinity Designer & Photo, from branding to stage decorations. Except for video, of course :-) More info: http://yosaliadefiestaenlos90.com
  7. A review and speed draw of Logan. * NO SPOILERS * I talk about the Old Man Logan comic vs the new Logan Movie while speed drawing Logan himself and showing how to value paint in Affinity Designer. https://youtu.be/UzZ6iMmlkgE
  8. Photoshop PSD file is not working properly like text converted into the image in layer with shown some errors on popup and psd file not open in existing size.
  9. So... After a few trials and errors, I have the 3rd proof back from the printers. Ohhh My Strawberry Monkey started a little while back as single comic strips but felt it wasn't the right direction. So its turned into a Children's book (under 5's) it's aimed at pre-schoolers. There is so much more to the story and I'm sure I'll tell it one day. I wrote and put the book together in Affinity Designer and yes I'm looking forward to publisher, which no doubt would've helped but it worked. Anyway, the next step is to send a copy to a few publishers and I'm also considering self-publishing. There will also be a few copies available, so you lucky people get to experience the first, (hopefully) in a series of many. So if you've got young kids and would like a copy leave a comment...Thinking of you Matt P and Chris B... (Is this also the first Children's book to come out of Designer?) Allan
  10. In this tutorial I'm gonna show you how to draw a simple paper clip in Affinity designer. In the first step we will draw the single paper clip as a curve and will use the actions break curve and join curve. With the pen tool we will extend the curve so that it looks like a real paper clip. In the second step (8:18) we will link two paper clips together. Therefor we will use the function expand stroke and the operations devide and add. In the third step we will use a rectangle as a clipping mask to create the drawing for the closed paper clip brush (12:38). At 16:12 I'll show you how to export the paper clip drawings as transparent png files. Creating different brushes in AD and AP will been shown at 18:05. https://youtu.be/Iaq7lmSsVoA
  11. Hi All, I used Affinity Designer, from start to finish to make this huge illustration for the upcoming event of a Belgian union (ACV), the text reads "equality makes the difference". Designer worked great on this one (Isometric grids! Infinite zoom! Global Colors!) and I plan on using it way more often for client work. Keep up the good work!
  12. Since the beginning of 2015, I have been working exclusively with Serif's program series. Here's an example of a vector work with Affinity Designer. I am looking forward to Serif's planned Publisher, who would make the package complete :-) http://b-bertuleit.de/vektor-arbeit-affinity-designer/
  13. Hello friends I try to export my sprites sheet from affinity designer to unreal engine 4, but I don't now with is the correct configuration for use export persona with spine .json animation, exist some tutorial or guide for export spine .json sprite? Thanks :)
  14. Hi this is my first post. Would like to thank you affinity for creating this wonderful beautiful software and to my surprise slowly and slowly it will surpass the monopolised control of the Adobe. There is still some features and some tools and tweak need to attend and need your attention and most of us all designer out there will agree with it. I have been a graphic designer from Advertisting world to Printing and website for more than 7 years now. And most of my workflow is with (guess what) is with Adobe CC. Varies from After Effects for most of my Moving and Animated advertising TV and Screen display from bank to restaurant, Lightroom for some tweaks adjustment on images, and the grand daddy of all effects the Photoshop for all kind of image manipulation, specially if I am too lazy to create 3D rendering using 3ds Max which I use for most of the mockup like table stand with all those banners hanging around on buildings, tables for signage and some architectural design, ( I am also a 3Ds modeller and Renderer: Vray and Corona, Vue and LumenRT and UnrealDevelopment Game Engine) and such, using series of CC packages like Adobe Muse for website and Dreamweaver if I need to code scripts and Adobe Experience Design for some apps. But most of the time I am a heavy Illustrator user, most of my work on printings and adds is always with Illustrator. To my suprise, I never use any Illustrator Application aside from Adobe Illy, but this Affinity Design really caught my attention, I have started Affinity Design this day and tried out with my current project with my restaurant clients for their flyers. I am currently on Brunei Darussalam and would like to share with you my art and review with AD. And with this I might start some setbacks and adjustment that I have encounter but found a way or manages to cope up and understand how logically Affinity Designer was made with their tools. Actually workflow wise, I am using Photoshop then Photoshop to Affinity Design went smoooooth. Satisfied with it. Maybe one of this day I will try Affinity Photo to fight back to back with Photoshop and I believe it will be very very interesting. Regards and thank to all
  15. Hey folks I'm new to this forum and affinity designer. Forgive me if this is a silly question but can you draw fill or shapes, like the brush tool in Adobe Flash? With this I mean in the same way you draw strokes as lines which are series of single nodes connected, is it possible to draw fill like shapes as lines of "double nodes" containing a fill if that makes any sence? Or if it is possible to draw a regular stroke then and convert it into a fill with a certain width following the strokes path if that makes sense? Image below shows adobe flash brush stroke
  16. User Sharkey wrote on 2/22/17: "I would like to take one of my photographs and combine it with some of my words but not in regular boxes or lines. An irregular very soft-edged area sufficiently transparent to allow the photograph to come through without any edges visible... Can I do this in AP or do I need AD also?" I responded w. a quick, make shift example of what could be done using only AD, Draw persona tools. There was little depth in the presentation. I am showing here what should be a easier to understand. This deals w. making an image fade away irregularly, not adding artistic text I'm including a few samples of what might be done using the Pixel personna, but I am really not skilled enough with that mode to offer much. The image below shows variations on a photo I took w. a cheap digital camera several years ago. The caption 1 area shows the image and vector ellipses drawn on it, mostly over the central clump of trees. The ellipses have no fill, and red strokes for illustration purposes. As mask items the will be white filled and un-stroked. Capt. 2 shows what happens when the circular ellipses are added together, and placed as a mask in the image layer. They have had a 7 pt. Gausian blur fx added to soften the border transition. Many of the later exaples will have the same blur. NOTE: the areas within the vectors, no matter what tone, define what portions of the image will show. If the vector mask is made less opaque, the image will fade away proportionally. The terminology may be missleading. Translate "100 percent opacity" as "100 percent of masked image shows within the vector shapes." I wanted to be able to retain some more of the underlying image. I made a reverse mask. I drew a rectangle the same size as the image, and then subtracted the added ellipse shape from it. Area 3a shows the outer portion of the image w. a gradient transparency, and a HSL adjust ment layer. Area 4 is the same, but using a Vibrance adjustment. Another way to use vector shapes as a mask is to use the Layer menu item "Rasterize to mask." In sect. 5, the vectors have been added, and filled w. a radial gradient. After rasterization, this is then added to the image as a mask, producing panel 6. The ellipses can also be made various grey tones, so that when grouped and rasterized to mask, each circle gives a slightly different effect. Thus, panel 7 Number 8 is all Pixel personna work. I made a selection of the central tree clump, and refined the selected area. The selection was inverted. Added an oval mask, and various adjustments to dimish the central area. 9 was made by placing erase blend mode ellipses over the image, and modifying those with elliptical transparency gradients. Those were then placed over a vector rectangle filled w. a radial gradient based on colors sampled from the image. Artistic text letters, converted to curves, can as easily be placed on the image, or even used as the mask elements defining the image. Adding:
  17. I recently released a new product on Creative Market and thought I would share it with this community. 10 Vector Textures https://creativemarket.com/kylechicoine/1154116-Vector-Textures These textures were created using the Adobe Capture app, then setup for both Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer. I would love to hear what you think if you check these out. If you end up purchasing them, please share what you create with them. Thanks!
  18. Inspired by some guys who show their impressive cars in this forum; pure vector, without pixel persona. A lot of work, but it's fun to work with AD ;)
  19. Open project (affinity designer is running. -Close the laptop lid -Open the laptop lid -Mac will no longer start (Need to restart the power button) macOS Sierra 10.12.3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
  20. When you set up a bleed, why doesn't it show up in the work area...how does it export if you are exporting as a pdf? How do I properly set up the document bleeds for printing (PDF)?
  21. Hello everyone, This is my first project I made in AD, it took me couple of weeks to finish it. I am really happy that I finished it and will be uploaded on behance soon. I did UX part first especially research. I took a survey regarding internet, what ISP they have and how much data do they use. I even took online interview and then started UI part. I am learning java to compile it and make an android app. I made light theme also. I will be grateful if I could improve something more. :) :) :D
  22. AD folks, Any way for me to convert an imported .png file created using the Sketch app so that I can manipulate it in Affinity Designer? I created a new document in AD and imported the above mentioned image but cannot figure out how to work off of this image, making minor changes/effects, etc. Thanks in advance. -Christo
  23. I have the latest version of AD and I'm coming from Xara. I've searched here, and watched numerous videos, just can't seem to get a handle on the line and brush tools in this program. I've seen many requests here to use videos to help explain my story. Here is a video on how to do it in Xara easy peasy. Here is a AD video on me trying to do line smoothing. Here is a AD Video on me trying to use vector brushes I've seen some posts saying that smoothing is really not good yet. So how is everyone dealing with this issue. The vector brush issues confuses the hell out of me since any settings I use does not seem to work. I've tried every type of controller setting and the line just appears the same maybe somewhat thicker. I did experiment with Profiles and was able to tweak the line a little, but all of this seems like a lot of work compared to Xara. Any help with getting brushes to work would be helpful. Thanks.
  24. Hi I recently Started to convert my hand drawn icon set to affinity designer here is the first icon in the series. I will keep on updating this thread for further updates.
