  1. Hello, I've got an artboard with gradient fill and want to copy that exact fill into another artboard. Is there a way to do that or I have to create that fill manually again?
  2. Here we go again! 3. So this is an image manipulation using various effects to create my impression of a creature(?!) mentioned in Finnish national epic Kalevala. Her name is Kissa Kipinätär, which loosely translates into Cat Miss Sparkle (I don't know what she's called in the English version of the poem). So here it is!

  5. I am trying to design a logo for a site based around renewable energy, so I thought maybe a sun and (UK) electric plug combined could work, ie to symbolise electricity generated by the sun. I am quite please with its simplicity but I have a feeling that although the sun seems obvious, the plug could be mistaken for something else, e.g. a grand piano! Doesn't seem to help even when rotated. Bear in mind this is for a UK site, so the three pin plug is appropriate. I'm currently working on an alternative with a lightbulb, but I'd still like to make the plug work if possible Any help appreciated, thanks
  6. Tabemashō (pronounced “ta-bay-ma-SHOW’) is a Japanese phrase meaning “Let’s Eat!” This particular piece is also my homage to the Japanese concept of “kawaii” - meaning “cute”, hence all those adorable little faces on the food decorating the ramen bowl. I’ve been kicking this idea around for a while now, and I finally found the time to finish it. Thank god it’s done now though - those noodles nearly killed me! (Weirdly, this is my second piece featuring noodles - see my previous piece “Kazuko” - I never want to draw another one as long as I live!) Hope you like it!
  7. Hi, I’m Nora! I made this topic to share my illustrations with fellow creatives! I’ve been using Affinity Designer & Photo little over a year now, learning new things every day! Year 2020 end, I made a choice to follow my heart and become full time Illustrator / Surface Pattern Designer 🙌🏻, previously I had been working full time job in Tourism Industry. Even though I always did different crafts and projects next to my daily work, I never felt the courage before to let things go and be a full time artist. So here we go, I post some of my works here, these are from the end of 2021. Also if you would like to see my works as a full project, I have them here on my Behance: https://www.behance.net/psnora/projects I hope to hear from you others out there, if anyone had also similar story with me or if not , it would be still fun to hear from you.🎈
  8. Let's share my personal used keyboard shortcuts visualiser for Affinity Designer. As you might have guessed from it's name, this tool shows up the ADe shortcuts in a more direct virtual keyboard style manner, locally in your web browser. For adjustments just select or switch to the corresponding option setting on top of the page view for your ADe version (actually included are reworked English and German shortcuts for ADe v1.10.5 now). Select your OS (Win or Mac) and the localized keyboard layout you use: You can also search for shortcuts via the bottom search field: DesignerCapture.mp4 To run it locally, extract the compressed archive and navigate into the "/DesignerShortcutMapper" folder. There open the HTML page index.html in your default or prefered web browser. See also the following note: IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read the in this distribution supplied readme.txt file, in order to understand how to setup/configure/enable for a webbrowser then local file:// access rights for running the DesignerShortcutMapper locally without a static HTTP server! - Though the recommended way is to run it via a http-server! Here attached is the compressed DesignerShortcutMapper_v1.10.5.zip archive reworked for ADe v.1.10.5: DesignerShortcutMapper_v1.10.5.zip Have fun with it! See also this related posting. 9. Hello everyone ! I'm new to Affinity Designer and I made two stickers as an example. It would be my pleasure to hear your comments. Thank you for all
  10. Hey! I am not sure this is a bug or this is by design but for me it seems to be an inconsistency. See the animation. If you hide an instance of a symbol all others get hidden too. I don't expect this to happen because if you delete an instance of a symbol all the others don't get deleted. Should be the same with hiding in my opinion. Sometimes I have to hide only a single or several instances of a symbol but I can't do it and have to delete it instead... Maybe this could be changed in future? All the best, Chris
  11. Hi, I want to make an object (green square) with a transparent hole inside of it. How do you do this? I can't seem to find the option for this So basically a square, with a circle inside of it, but you cannot see the fill of the circle as well as the fill of the square. So a square with a hole inside. In my attachment the circle is black, however I want it gone. Black hole that should be transparent.afdesign If I try to make the circle a mask of the layer, I get a round circle...? How do I inverse this? Removing the circle not the green square? Masked square that gives a round green circle.afdesign
  12. When I export fabric swatch images from Affinity Designer (v 1.10.5) to progressive 100 quality JPGs, the generated image file has wavy lines. What is causing this distortion and how can I fix it? EXPORT SETTINGS GENERATED JPG
  13. Since there aren't any text wrap features in Designer (are there?) I have a rectangle that I sheared into a parallelogram to flow some text into so it'll have a left margin with an acute angle. I copy my text and click in the parallelogram using the Frame Text Tool and paste it in. That works but the posted text has taken on the same shear angle as the rectangle has. So I delete the text and convert the parallelogram to curves and paste the text again; same result: the text has the original shear angle and I notice that the rotate gizmo at the top of the selected shape also has the shear angle. The question is: after using the transform settings to adjust a shape, how can I place text into it where the text will not inherit any of the shape's distortions? This is also the case where I wish Designer had text wrap tools; I started the project in Designer and had to change it to a design that included skewed text boxes instead of straight ones. Publisher doesn't have the illustration tools I need so it's not worth trying to rebuild the design in Publisher just to get a wrap tool for a few text boxes. I thought the Frame Text Tool would be a good stand-in but it only seems to work correctly if the text frames remain simple rectangles. Any ideas?
  14. Hi, I have created a #Zine for #Zinequest - #Kickstarter. This is my first campaign. I used Affinity Designer for all of the illustrations (including the maps) - no special brushes, just the basic pen-tool. All of the textures were created or edited with Affinity Photo and the layout is in Affinity Publisher. The watercolour painting is not done with Affinity - I have yet to understand the brushes and such - especially how they work in the world of offset printing. I hope you will take a look at my campaign on Kickstarter -
  15. Hi all, Simple question I can't seem to figure out myself. I had an older version of affinity designer and was able to view the pages in a left menu like you can in InDesign, along with the active artboard. Handy because you can copy and paste and move artboards around. I can't seem to figure out where to activate this menu view / feature (not under View in menu). Any insight appreciated! Thanks Kat
  16. I have been experiencing an issue with AD when attempting to copy an object either with ctrl+c shortcut or through the context menu. When copying an object in AD, my desktop begins to flicker non stop which prevents me from clicking and keeping focus on anything. This is includes any application running and not just AD. The only way I am able to prevent it is to go to the login window and log back in. This behavior happens regardless of which app I have open and am actively focused in when AD is open. For instance, when the flickering is not occurring, and I am in my Mozilla browser and do a ctrl+c, the flickering begins. I do the login window/log in to reset the flickering. I close AD and do the same thing in Mozilla, and the copy works fine which then makes me believe it is an AD conflict with the OS or something. This behavior occurred in both Windows 10 and 11 since around March/June time (so whatever AD versions were active then) and on different computers. Current version is 1.10.5.
  17. Designer 1.10.5.1342, Windows 10 Designer Persona I draw a circle and save it as a PNG file. I create a New Textured Image Brush and select the circle PNG when prompted. I select Edit Brush and change the Body setting to Repeat. The Brush preview window shows a line of circles touching each other. I increase the Tail Offset to put a space between the circles, which it does. However, I get a line running through the circles rather than having a blank space between them. Can I get rid of it?
  18. Is there a way to specify the output dimensions when exporting to SVG? I make a lot of SVGs for cutting and engraving, and I've had a terrible time getting my finished project from Designer to other software - the dimensions are always off, and I usually end up having to import the SVG into Illustrator to set the dimensions by inches (or mm) so I can cut/engrave it properly.
  19. How do I do this again? I cannot replicate it. All I can do is CTRL Z & CTRL Y to see that it can be done. AligningToStroke.mp4
  20. I already know of: 1) Power duplicate - requires to duplicate each object, and overall a very bad and slow way to duplicate to a grid, because if you need to change the spacing between objects, you need to redo everything from scratch. 2) Align - space horizontally/vertically, uncheck "auto distribute", and then select the distance between objects. This still requires manually duplicating each object, however it does allow to change distance between objects instantly. This works for one row or column, but then goes completely insane when I try to replicate said column/row using the same method into a grid - all objects end up at arbitrary distances and most fly over the edge of the document entirely. So I can't even make a grid using this method. Any other ideas? In Publisher if I remember correctly you could make a grid layout, adjust it by dragging, drop an object into a cell, and it is auto-replicated in all other cells.
  21. I began with a photo and did some tracing. Then applied gradients. I'm not entirely happy with the result, but it is my first effort. I wanted to share it. I welcome feedback or tips, pointers to tutorials, etc. I'm trying to learn to create somewhat realistic images that still have a vector personality to it. Anyway, I'm shy about my work, but I do welcome your comments. Honestly, the hardest part for me was the nose, the hair, the mouth, the eyes, the lips, the face, the skin ... lol ... in other words, I need to improve every part of my skills. But again, I just wanted to share something with the community.
  22. I don't know if anyone has noticed this bug but if you create an artistic text letter R,B,P,D and convert it to curves to create a vector object. Then clone that object with a CTRL drag. Select the cloned object and flip it horizontally. Then bring them together, so the stalk overlaps to give a mirrored, merged effect. Then select both images and use the geometry add function, the objects do not join as expected. The one on the right fills in the hole in the R, B, P, D but leaves the object on the left as is. I have included a document for you to try and replicate this for yourself. The object on the left is what the add function should do (created in DrawPlus). All you have to do is select both of the objects on the right and select geometry add function. This bug also occurs in Affinity Designer. Geometry bug.afpub

Another method is to use Terminal within macOS, as outlined here.
