  1. Good day, Is there a way to see what the Pantone colour value of an object is? I'm working in a "Print (Press-Ready)" document. I applied a Pantone colour, and also added the colour to the swatches panel. If I hover over that swatch later, how do I confirm what Pantone colour that swatch represents? Thank you.
  2. If I have, say, five separate 'pen' lines which join into the shape of a polygon, how do I convert them into a polygon so that I can fill that polygon with colour?
  3. I have just started using the software affinity designer and I am trying to figure out what everything does. Right now I’m stuck on View modes, what does Pixel mode, Outline mode and Retina mode do and change? Thanks!

  5. Is there any logic to the order in which a group of files are opened in AD and AP. I have a group of seven files called, 1.png, 2.png ... 7.png. If I select all from the finder and open them in either AD or AP they always open in a different order, i.e. the order of the file tabs reading from left to right when open in AD and AP is different each time they are opened with the exception of the last file which always appears as 7.png. These are the results showing the tab order in AD and AP when selecting all seven files in the finder and then right-clicking and selecting Open With. It's not a real issue and doesn't really cause any problems though it would be helpful if they opened either in the order they were selected or alphabetically.
  6. Hi everyone, I just started using affinity designer and I know only some basic stuff. I am wondering if there is any good tutorials out there the will help me get familiar with using this app!

    Dream in a Bottle

I call this "Dream in a Bottle." Wanted to practice on surrealism, shading and lighting and get the feel of the new "edit in photo/designer" feature, passing back and forth between AD and AP. The feature is so nice but I did find a bonafide bug. After several passes back and forth between AD and AP, the files start to corrupt and the UI and the thumbnail windows of the layers panel start doing weird things like vector shapes turn into Text icons, etc. I can reproduce this problematic bug every time after about 5 or 6 bounces back and forth.
  8. I have used Adobe AI for a long time for technical manuals and manufacturing documentation. I recently went looking for a replacement which was not subscription based and found Affinity Designer and within 4 hours was loving it! For me Affinity provides a better user experience and is more efficient. I am a big fan now! Going to test out the photo app next. Great job at Affinity!

  10. Hi! very happy to say that this week we've achieved 5k of subs on my youtube, thanks for everyone for keep up, I love to do my things on affinity designer, it's very friendly and inspiring! now in this one I did a Donut using Affinity Designer on ipad pro. enjoy! Best tips - Techniques 0:55 use the Erase layer mode to "Subtract" a shape behind, remember to keep the objects at the same group! 2:27 you can build shapes by drawing vector shapes - then you Expand Strokes at top menu 3:55 use pencil tool and sculpt the lines as you wish 4:02 you can add drop shadow FX on the group of lines and apply to them all

  12. In Affinity Designer, is there a way to hide the blue outline surrounding the vectors on selected objects - similarly to how Adobe Illustrator hides the blue lines going forward by pressing "CTRL + H"? I often compare adjustments to a design by doing undos/redos and the blue vector outline changes what the design looks like. Thanks for any help!
  13. Hi, this might be a silly question but I was wondering if there was a way to position a group of objects closer or further away from a central anchor point without changing the size like you would by holding ⌘ and scaling from the center except without actually changing the scale. For the image below, I would like to move all the inner spokes of the wheel inwards without changing their size. I realize I can do this manually one by one but is there a way to do them all at once?
  14. In "Guides Manager" why can't I change or add Margins?
  15. I open my View drop down then go to the Studio option then open any panel and try to attach it to the Artboard and then the whole program crashes. I'm running MAC OS 10.14.5 (18F132). This hasn't happened until the most recent update. It keeps putting it in a mode where I have to boot the program and hold control to clear caches a lot.
  16. Hi everyone! This practice is based on a real photo. I painted it with only 3 brushes, and again, truly love Affinity Designer! P.S. I am not bald, just for fun.
  17. I was wondering if there was a way to group elements that are on different layers. For instance, I would like to group the 'compass' into one but still keep the 'document' sandwiched in between while not including the 'document' in the group. Is this possible? *see image for context*

  19. Hi Affinity, While I love the way OpenType features are handled much better than in Adobe, I really cannot navigate font superfamilies. If you have any family that has different weight groups then navigating through the font list is very difficult. Can you guys please fix the font organization. It really slows down my work otherwise. I am showing screenshots for one particular font family. I have licensed countless superfamilies and I really don't like working with them in Affinity products for this reason.

  21. Whenever I export an SVG file to an application for the browser the SVG Comes out with a style on it (style = "fill-opacity: 0"). This makes it annoying because every time I make an SVG they always have this style on it. I have to go into the file and remove this style attribute to make it work every single time I make an SVG. Is there a way when exporting to not have it display this style attribute?

Hi everyone, here is the second attempt drawing a comic based on a true story - my cute and funny girl, please enjoy it
  23. Hello! I have had a few issues recently that seems to be performance related (serious lag and erratic behaviour of node tool and move tool) I have attached a video of a work session (sorry if it's long and tedious, it's a realistic snippet of how I, and probably many others, have to work) I don't know how to put subtitles on a video so I will put a list below with the issues I found. Now, I must say, as it have been pointed out multiple times a smooth and/or simplify option on path and nodes would be greatly appreciated. I know that I will receive comments on the fact that I should learn to be proficient with a pen tool before trying to smooth paths, because that what I have been reading a lot on these forum. I get that most people who answer here are "creators", but I suspect a lot of us Designer users are what we call "artworkers". Meaning we have to work on files given to us by others (who don't care if their files make sense or not - they don't give a crap, they couldn't be bothered, don't even try to talk to them ) The case I am presenting here is a 146 kb .eps file provided by the studio in charge of digitizing the assets from Schultz estate. They provide those files (take it or leave it) to those who buy the licensing rights. My work here is to smooth out the jagged lines, because the scan was probably done, digitized via livetrace (and converted to .eps) from a small/damaged/blurry line drawing. So if you have the patience to go through the video, you'll see that the file has 81 layers (which I tried to organise a bit prior to recording the video). You'll see that I really lack the availability to use a smooth tool or a simplify option. I tried to use the "smooth" function in the contextual menu, but it makes little difference to the end result. so the list of issues with the timecode are below: 0.06: trying to use the space key to pan the canvas, it's either slow or simply not working (it sometimes does) have to use the navigator instead 0.14: Same with using the zoom (Space bar + CTRL) 0.38: Trying to select a shape with the node tool (it sometimes works) end up using the layer panel (wading through 81 layers) 1.24: The node tool now has a mind of its own. At the particular moment I am not even touching the tablet with the pen. I am just hovering over the drawing after clicking the node and the node tool has now picked up the node and travels with it. I get the same behaviour with a mouse. (but who would use a mouse?). Again, I am not clicking, nor click/draging the node. I have to do a number of CTRL+Z to restore state. 3.10: Happens again. As I said, the original file is 810 KB. It's 146 kb when saved as an afdesigner file. Beyond the lag/performance issue, I would like to plea for artworkers workflow to be taken into account in the development of the software. When I do an inventory of all the features I'd like to add (select similar for example) I can see that these are features aimed at modifying shapes and paths as opposite as creating new ones. It seems to me that the project managers had "creators" in mind and not artworkers (simplifying here), meaning that if you are working on a generic .eps or .ai file created by someone else, it's infinitely easier do it in Adobe Illustrator (because those feautres exist in .ai), whereas I have no trouble using all the - very well - thought-out tools of Affinity designer if I want to create a design from scratch (I am someone who is naturally very neat with her layer stack, and I always name and group my layers, it's even a breeze if someone has to work on my files ). But if you decide that your software isn't aimed primarily at artworkers, then I think you're losing out (particularly given the price and licencing model, artworkers are AD natural customers. Apologies for the Sundays ramblings.... Hope everything makes sense... record_000001.avi
  24. Hi Affinity community. I have 2 rectangles no stroke, I sheared them, then, flipped them, joined or aligned them to make a roof like element. But there is a line down the middle. I've done the same thing in Fireworks and it worked without producing the line. Even though it's zoomed in, I noticed it before I zoomed. It was worse in Designer but after clicking the View Mode buttons on and off it got better but not right. I've attached an image showing the 2 different results, there is 2 screenshots from each app to show they are 2 objects being joined. I'm trying to do more stuff in Designer but this type of thing slows the transition to where I resort back to Fireworks. Is this the same issue as is posted in these posts? Lines between (snapped) objects in editor - terrible quality at png Can someone explain why I get these thin lines? Thanks in advance for any help.
