  1. There doesn't seem to be a way to merge an adjustment layer with the vector objects it is applied to. I already made a post asking about how to accomplish this here: But there doesn't seem to be a practical way to do it. This is frustrating because the HSL layer, for example, is an amazing way to recolor your artwork that is rendered almost useless when you can't merge it with the vector objects it is applied to. Adobe Illustrator has had a recolor feature for years and the only reason I'm not making the switch to AD is this. Merging adjustment layers would fix this issue completely and would be an amazing (and logical) addition to AD.
  2. Have you ever tried to arrange objects in the layers panel only to loose them, and then find it nestled in a collapsed group of objects? Ever try and move an object so it clips anther object and it ends up with an unexpected result? Ever wonder what those enigmatic icons in the layer thumbnails are trying to tell you? This guide is for anyone with those questions. From folks that are new to Affinity Products, to people who has been using it for years and struggled with the behaviour of layers. This 3-page visual how-to guide will hopefully help reveal any or all of the cryptic layer mysteries! The guide is in English for desktop versions of the products, designed the Windows version, tested mostly in Affinity Designer, but should translate well to Affinity Photo and Publisher. I would love to hear your feedback, if you notice any errors, have any additions, and/or let me know if it helps you, please chime in! NOTE: PDF DOWNLOAD AT THE BOTTOM. Please download it! Cheers, Dave Vector Affinity Layers Guide - Understanding Masks, Moves, Crops, Clips, Adjustments.pdf
  3. Hi, I'm currently creating a game and for textures and such, I go into Photo and make them. I also recently discovered a technique for getting 4 maps (specular, gloss, ... , transparancy) into a single image file, by using the RGBA channels, since these maps only use the greyscale data. But I'm not able to get this done in Affinity Photo. At the moment I manage to get this is work on the complete image and on every color I use it can only be in red, green or bleu so it doesn't appear in the other channels. And only able to getting it grey in that particular channel by changing the tint in the main. This is doable with flat colors, but if a textures is complex (for example a wood-texture), this isn't that easy. So how do I edit in my channels without affecting the others and have the same tools and adjustments at hand for working only in that channel? In Photoshop, you could do level adjustments and such, on a single channel without affecting the other channels. Your color tools would automaticly change to greyscale. But how do you do it in Affinity Photo? Cheers
  4. hey! how to adjust a existing picture frame to some given measurements? at this point I only found the way to resize by dragging the frames edges an trying to hit the exact measurements needed. is there a way to set such frame to eg. 350 x 350 px with some simple adjustment?
  5. Have created a few LUTs (Look Up Tables) using affinity photo and also downloaded a lot of them from the internet, Can select a specific LUT from Adjustmens > LUT > Load LUT and use it as an adjustment layer, but if we have hundreds of them then we need to select one at a time to preview how it would look on the image it would be great if we could see a preview how all of them would look when applied to the image, and then be able to select the one that we like
  6. Would be nice if you could implement Davinci Resolve style color adjustment. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/color
  7. Hello all I evaluate AP 1.7 as a replacement for Lightroom but run in some very basic problems with raw file development. 1. When I develop one single raw file (DNG from Lightroom) AP writes a huge file (121MB versus 19MB original). This is no good. Is there a way to save the adjustments done in a fair way without using the alternative formats like tif, jpg etc. ? 2. I want to develop several raw files (DNG from Lightroom) at once with a batch process and saving them in jpg or tif for further processing. However, I do not manage to apply the individually made macro in Photo Persona to process the RAW files in Photo Develop, although I can select the macro. Possibly the macros are not compatible? How can I process several raw files the same way? 3. Is it still not possible in AP to save adjustments made in single raw files in an undestructive way? Thank you for your helpful answers. Best regards,
  8. Hello, I have been having the following problem in the most up to date (as of today) version of affinity publisher desktop (1.8.6) on Mac : 1. I add a picture to a page (not a master). 2. I use the photo persona (top left corner in publisher) to make adjustments on the picture (e.g., brightness and contrast, black and white). 3. (Here's the problem). The adjustments becomes caked in the picture. The adjustment is now: A) fused with the picture; B) impossible to readjust or modify; C), impossible to delete; D) impossible to uncheck from the layers section. If I double click on the adjustment layer, a dialog box appears, giving me "fusion" options). This is problematic because I would like to have the ability to continue making adjustments on the picture. Is there any way to fix this issue? Thank you,
  9. Selection, creation of fill layer and put inside bitmap. How i can put a adjustment layer in the fill layer as parent child and work??(i want to keep the abilities of fill layer) .Is any other way to do it. Thank you
  10. When I look at the Layer Adjustments in Photo I get a very differently-ordered list to what I get in Live Layer Adjustments. Edit: Oops. When I say Live Layer Adjustments, what I mean is the Adjustments menu that pops up after you press the Adjustments icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. For some reason I got a bit mixed up with Live Filters. However, my question still stands, and see my later post for more questions. Is there some reason for the difference? It’s a bit confusing when looking for things. I’ve highlighted some of the differences in the attached image but most of them are in different places. I would suggest that they are either put in a basic alphabetical order or grouped in some way but then in alphabetical order within those groups (whatever those groups might be, I don’t know enough to say). Whichever, they should be in the same order in both menus. I would also suggest that this order is the same in all three products to make it easier to switch between them.
  11. Hello there, unfortunately I don’t understand (and can’t find a tut) how to apply a preset i.e. in the Curves Adjustment layer. 1. I make my adjustments (which I like to add to a batch of similar files) 2. I add a preset and name it 3. Where do I get this preset now in another image? Can someone help?
  12. Hi everybody, I just purchased Photo and like it so far! So as I'm totally new, and the search didn't return any results: is there a way to save all the adjustments I made to a RAW image before developing it? Similar to the .XMP sidecars Adobe creates? I don't want to create presets for every single change I made - I just want to save all the adjustments and changes including overlays, blemish removals, etc. to a file so that I can go back into the RAW file and re-adjust the work I've done without having to do it all over again. Thanks!
  13. Hi all, I am having difficulty getting affinity to print photos correctly after editing in affinity. Specifically, if I make an adjustment layer of say a 'high pass filter'. The adjustment shows fine on the screen, but is ignored by affinity when sending the photo to the printer. It also seems that the adjustment type doesn't seem to matter, but what does matter is if the adjustment is applied through a 'selection' tool area of the photo on it's own layer. I have checked through the forum and have found that exporting as a TIFF format and subsequently printing through mac 'preview' does seem to work. However, I am using a high end Epson (SC P600) and would like to be able to take advantage of the printing options within affinity and of the printer. Any advice on how to ensure a layer gets printed through affinity would be welcomed. Thanks. Details are:- iMac retina 5K, MacOS High Sierra 10.14.6 AFFINITY 1.7.3 Epson SC P600
  14. Hi guys Please watch the 1 minute video. What am I doing wrong? I have no clue. Please aware this is a Group in a Group. Switching Passthrough to Normal also has no effect. All replies appreciated. Video: Grouped Adjustment Layers having no effect
  15. I'm a videogame artisti and it happens many times that I have to export single layers or groups of layer that contains the various assets for the game. But if I decide to use some adjustment layers to modify the whole document when I export the single layers to png they lose the adjustments and I don't want every time to apply singularly a copy of these adjustment to every asset I export. Is there a way to keep into consideration the global adjustment layers when exporting part of a drawing? Thank you for answering ;)
  16. Hey friends! We have the menu "Filter" and under the menu "Layers" the sub menu "New Live Filter Layer". The processing options are partly the same, but sometimes different. What is the reason for this apparent duplication and which way should one primarily use? The same is true for "Adjustment" from "View -> Studio" and "New Adjustment Layer". I ask for explanations and thanks in advance. Guzzi
  17. Hello - Guten Tag! I would like to be able to sort the adjustments or hide unneeded. There are a few options there that I'm sure I'll never use, others that I can not judge yet. Therefore, it would be an advantage to post the frequently used adjustments at the top.
  18. Hey, I have a question regarding the "presets" under the ADJUSTMENT tab (Default, Lighten, Darken u. g.) in PHOTO. After my update to 1.7 they are gone. Only DEFAULT (in the German version called STANDARD) left. Do you have a hint how I can get them back? They were very functional for quick or rough changes. Many thanks in advance, Markus
  19. I'm trying to speed up my workflow, I know in other applications you can copy/paste/sync adjustment settings in RAW to another image, is this possible in Affinity please and if so how/where do I find the option. Thanks in advance.
  20. Hello Everyone ! I would like to know what is the easiest way to match colors on a Photo Montage/Composition in Affinity Photo without going all this crazy and too technical way. Is Serif thinking about bringing in the Color Match Live adjustment ? it is needed and may help shorten too long workflow or steps. Blessings !
  21. Hi there, Just wonderin, is there a way to remove an adjustment from a Layer? Can't find a way :( I know I can turn it off but is there a way to delete it? Thanks, Pete
  22. Hello Team Well i have couples of suggestions for what i call "The Persona Improvements". Well it is nothing as serious as the title is but more like me looking into things with different sight. 1- The Tone Mapping persona is lacking of a Global Reset button or function that allows the user to reset anything done there without leaving the Persona, i ask this because the Tone Mapping Persona have default behavior of applying the latest used Preset and apply it to a newly loaded picture, so having a Reset Global button will help us have a picture that is not directly changed and for which we can start at fresh either it be for manual adjustment or preset application. - Please Fix/Implement- 2- The Tone Mapping Persona to me should be far more than what it is actually and it the right place for us to process and handle very helpful and serious stuffs like LUT (and even more) but in a more advanced way than what we can do with the LUT Adjustment layer, there also we should be able to import/export LUT with ease of use. 3- The different categories we see in the persona would be pleasant if you could make it Fold/unFold. actually when i click say Main" or "Exposure" it stays unFolded and the only way to Fold it is to uncheck it thus disabling the related settings, So please make it Foldable/un Foldable but please keep the enable/disable for who may want (it is also necessary) 4- The curve category should offer more settings than the Adjustment of the same name (this should be the case for the develop persona too) i mean you should put everything like the Eye dropper for Highlight-Mid Tone and Shadow allowing us to do more and very accurate color grading and color balance. 5- I suggest changes and works done in the Tone Mapping Persona to reflect on the pixel persona as Adjustment Layers for he who may want that config but also it will make the thing more "Non Destructive style of work" also we should be able after applying our selection using the Tone Map Persona to return there and work from where we left things and not start at fresh again superposing this and that thus making our design or work "too much" ! 6- Possible to speed up the load of One Map persona ? i think if you disable the Auto apply selected tone it will be much faster and leaving us full control of whatwe want to do in there. That was my 6 points for a Better Affinity! Blessings.
  23. Hi! I am in the process of creating a new workflow for my portrait photography, using Affinity on iPad Pro, instead of PS on Macbook Pro. There is one of my PS procedures, for which I just can’t seem to find a substitute in Affinity. In PS I use the Color Adjustment layer, to shift a range of e.g. reds towards orange, and thus fix problematic red skin tones. The thing is, that you can use two sliders to finely tune the exact range of reds that you want to affect. Is there any way I can achieve the same in Affinity? (Using e.g. the whole RED channel is way to coarse.) Thanks
  24. By default, the panel to modify Adjustment layers appears at the bottom. This creates problems when you have dual monitors in vertical layout, or if you have a floating video player in that corner (for tutorials etc.) I know you can move each Adjustment panel individually, but I would like all Adjustment panels to appear by default on the top-left and/or be able to drag it into a floating toolbar (as indicated in the screenshot). Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!
  25. I know this is something not so important, but I want to edit a layer by itself, I don't like the fact that when I want to edit one layer with adjustments it edits all the layers, I don't know if I'm missing something or if this is just how it is but I don't want to have to merge the adjustment for it to affect a specific layer. this might be the thing with the trial because I'm using the trial to test affinity, I've been using photoshop for a while and I'm really used to edit layers just by separately without editing every other layer. if there is a toggle to this that I don't know about I would like to know because this is keeping me from switching to affinity, other than that, I'm enjoying what affinity has to offer, there's a little less but I'm sure more will come eventually.
