  1. Hello, I'm currently preparing hand drawn icons for the web (svg) export. I want to make a single element out of multiple layers to save some kbs, but after choosing "Add" option some of the parts are substracted. Problem happens when I try to close / simplify a single curve (one object in the layer menu), that has some overlapped space. I tried expanding the curve, then tried every single action in the Action centre based under Node Tool and still can't figure it out. I'm used to just selecting "Add" (Illustrators path finder) to make it a single shape without overlapping paths, but in Designer there is only "Divide" that can be chosen. Any tips and ideas will be appreciated
  2. Hello Affinity team! I've had some problems with merging curves layers and in the result I asked this wonderful community for help. At first I thought I must be missing some tools and someone here will guide me to the light, but seems like it's the software that misses pretty important tool. Please, get familiar with the thread I started: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/46069-designer-simplifying-closing-single-curve/& Issues: - dividing curves when hitting "Add" - no easy solution to merging curve that overlaps itself 2 ideas emerged: - breaking curves in innocuous places and then hitting add, - creating rectangles in divided areas and then removing some of the nodes. It's something and working for now, but it's pretty time consuming, and for someone facing deadlines on the daily basis can be a deal breaker. Suggestion: - getting "Add" tool to merge singe curve that overlaps itself, - or creating another tool that will do so.
  3. I'm using version 1.5.0.26 RC of Affinity Designer, following the tutorial found at: On minute 2:10 you can see what I'm trying to do, you can place to vector objects over each other and try apply the boolean add operator while pressing the "alt" key. This keeps the two vector objects, however instead of joining them or adding them it subtracts them.
  4. In this tutorial I'm gonna show you how to draw a simple paper clip in Affinity designer. In the first step we will draw the single paper clip as a curve and will use the actions break curve and join curve. With the pen tool we will extend the curve so that it looks like a real paper clip. In the second step (8:18) we will link two paper clips together. Therefor we will use the function expand stroke and the operations devide and add. In the third step we will use a rectangle as a clipping mask to create the drawing for the closed paper clip brush (12:38). At 16:12 I'll show you how to export the paper clip drawings as transparent png files. Creating different brushes in AD and AP will been shown at 18:05. https://youtu.be/Iaq7lmSsVoA
  5. Is there a way to convert a path to a selection, and have the selection be added/subtracted to a selection that is already made?
  6. Ok this is starting to drive me nuts. I've been using Affinity Designer for at least 6 months for various small non-professional projects and it's been fantastic. I'm trying to create a drawing of the side panel of a bar-top arcade game I'm building which I'll print out and use as a cutting template. I've drawn two shapes and want to join/ add them. The two shapes have given every indication of having snapped together, but every time I select them using the move tool and hitting the add button it groups the two shapes/ curves rather than adding them and losing the line between them leaving just the outline. I've used add to create the top shape, but these two won't add together. Ultimately I could live with this, but I really want to put a radius corner on the bottom right corner of the top shape where it connects to the bottom. Can anyone explain where I might be going wrong? I'm using v 1.5.2 on a Mac (10.12.3) in the draw persona.
  7. I think there should be an option to add a new layer directly above the selected layer. Currently as far as I can tell, adding a new layer adds it to the top of all of the layers in the panel. This is not ideal when you have hundreds of layers and you just need a new layer above the current selected layer. For instance when you are organizing your element layers and need a container layer to dump a bunch of layers into... If this is already possible can someone let me know? Cheers!
  8. Hello, my name is Brandon and I just recently purchased Affinity Designer for Windows. I'm enjoying my experience, but one thing I always seem to run into while making logos is attempting to add shapes and the shapes just disappearing. For example, today I was trying to add multiple shapes together to create a letter "B". I had two curves for the humps, which were expanded strokes, and I had three horizontal rectangles. One was at the top, one in the middle, and one at the bottom. All the shapes were overlapping and I attempted to select them all and use the "add function". After clicking the button, the shapes just disappeared and I was a left with a blank layer named "curves". I've attempted to recolor the layer and try converted all shapes to curves, but nothing seems to do it. Please help me. Thank you, Brandon Nowak
  9. Hey, So in Photoshop you can Ctrl click a layer and use either Alt, Shift, and Alt+Shift (on Windows) to allow the subtracting, adding or selecting the intersection of the current selection. This is really handy for creating masks and composite shapes. I know in Affinity Photo that you can Ctrl click a layer to select the opaque area, but using the keyboard modifiers doesn't seem to do anything else. Is there another way to do what I do in Photoshop in Affinity Photo? Cheers, Mark
  10. Hello all, Newbie here, is the way to undo add, instead of clicking on undo button. Tried Googling it, did'nt help. Thanks in advance.
  11. I think a really handy option for the 'export' dialogue would be 'Space around image'. I regularly send logo proofs to customers as JPEG or PNG. When exporting selections, the resulting image always perfectly frames the objects selected (which is good). However sometimes I like to add a border to make the image more easily viewable to the client. Could there be an option to add a certain number of pixels evenly around an exported bitmap? I don't always want to adjust the artboard or add another object to achieve this.
  12. Hello When I try to use boolean operation I have to completely overlap my shape to get it subtracted correctly. If I use the snapping features and then subtract the shape, Affinity Designer leave me some leftover vectors. Am I doing anything wrong ? Thanks AD.mov test.afdesign
  13. Hi, When I use selection brush tool with subtrack it first act like add. When I use add and than subtrack it act right. It's not a big problem. MM
  14. I love the corner tool - awesome stuff. But as soon as I apply a boolean operation to shapes (add, subtract, intersect, divide, combine) their corners become baked and the ability to edit corners is lost. I imagine that it *might* be possible for any unaffected corners to retain their corner tool setting (i.e. existing corners with a corner tool setting applied, that are not created or changed by the boolean operation being applied). This would be a great help. Currently when ever I want to apply a boolean operation on a shape that has a corner, I first have to zero the corner, remember what it was, then reapply it after the boolean operation is applied.
  15. Hi All, Trying to figure out how best to save the changes/settings after I've worked on a RAW file. I've looked in the Affinity Help and so far while looking in the Basic Develop Persona section I found mention of "Save Presets" and an icon associated with it. (see the screen shot attached). I've also found a mention in the forums of adding presets via the pull down menu above the Basic/Exposure settings (screen shot also attached) It's difficult finding specific topics in the built in help as some things are mentioned once but can not be used as search criteria to find out more info. Having used Photoshop previously I think some of the trouble is terminology and a bit of semantics, but it would be good to clear up what means what, and how you might be able to see changes after you save a Raw file as when I return to a changed and saved Raw/af.photo file the sliders are all back to zero, which is not what I'm used to using Photoshop. So, questions: 1. How does one see what changes have been made to a Raw file after adjustments have been made and the file saved and re-opened, as it seems on reopening all the sliders are zeroed and not showing the changes that had been made? 2. Where can the "Save Presets" icon shown in Affinity Help be found on screen or in which menu? 3. Is there an equivalent of an .xmp file created after adjusting a RAW file? 4. Do you have to "add preset" via the Basic pull down menu each time you want to save your adjusted settings to each and every file instead of it re-opening with the settings already done and showing on the sliders? 5. Is "adding" the same or equivalent of "saving" presets, or are they two separate things doing two different jobs? (tried to illustrate this with another screen shot) Think that covers it.
  16. Hi, I played around with Affinity Photo and I love it so far. But for some use cases I am missing Photoshop a bit. I think color based selections was way more effective in Photoshop than it is in Affinity Photo. In Photoshop you could press and hold Shift key to add more colors to your existing range, before playing with the tolerance slider. The result usually comes a lot closer to what you are looking for. Does anyone have an idea how to create a selection based on a whole bunch of target colors? Sorry for my German screen shots ;)
  17. I posted this in the AP Feature Request but no joy, so have moved it to here in the hope that someone can shed some light ... When Media Browser opens it displays entries for Aperture and iPhoto libraries, for Apple's Photo, and for Apple's Picture folder. However, the Aperture and iPhoto libraries will not open, I haven't even opened Photos and intend to keep it that way, and what MB shows as present in Pictures does not tally with what is actually there (some content does not show). I had some success by creating an Aperture library in Pictures and dragging it to MB, where it seems to be OK, but dealing with all my libraries (I have several in Aperture for reasons of workflow) this way would be a pain in the you-know-what. So, two questions: Why don't the default Aperture/iPhoto libraries open; and if I'm going to have to populate MB with new versions via Pictures, how can I clear up the MB window by deleting the useless default files? (I know that you can remove folders that you have dragged into MB by using ctrl click, but the only thing that you can do with the default Aperture, iPhoto and (I guess) Photo libraries isReload). Thanks!
