  1. Hello! Thought I would share what I've been working on lately. I'm a fairly new user to Affinity Photo & Designer; my usual "go-to" is Sketchbook Pro, but the addition of Affinity has been awesome. I'm still learning the different brushes/ strokes/ and UI so it's taking me a bit to adjust. I'm quite a fan of the Metroid franchise and I love the artwork that's involved. Below is a freehand sketch of the "official" baby sheegoth creature, and I'm hoping to put my own spin on things when it comes time for colour. I've been alternating on my Surface Pro 4 & Wacom Cintiq, if anyone was curious to what I was using. Feel free to leave feedback; I'm always down for that :). Adrian
  2. Could someone tell me how to edit this photo or point me to a tutorial which would help me.Thanks for any help and advice.
  3. I am running Affinity Photo 1.6.5.123 on Windows 10 Desktop. I am administrator and have no problem running the application. My partner who also uses the computer cannot access the app. The licence is confusing. Is it possible for her to access the app or is it restricted by the licence or ?? Thanks.
  4. Hello, I have seen many beautiful complicated works done by affinity designer and those were done on ipad or older versions of iMac and windows pc whose configurations are unknown to me. That gives an impression that designer is not very resource hogging. My question is how complicated is too much for my windows pc (G4560, 16Gigs, igpu, 250gig ssd)? I'm not quite asking the system requirement to run designer. I'm asking after what point my computer may start lagging? Like multiple layers or bigger canvas or too many raster brush - what will be the choking point of my pc? In that case, I'm thinking of doing small upgrade. What I can invest in? Thanks in advance.
  5. I have installed the latest version of the Affinity programs and now they are closing after it appears they have opened! I thought this should be posted in technical help but those subject areas are not open to me for some reason.
  6. So yes this has been a issue that has been going on for some time Idk if i just didn't notice or if its just my computer but the purview its like yeh looks the way i want but then export it then its significantly darker? If anybody has has something like this happen please help and if i need to ill go into more detail.
  7. Hallo, I have included two screen shots, one is from windows 10 control panel the other windows 10 font disply, both showing the DAVID font, as I did install them. However one is greyed out while the other is availbale, this is a mystery in itself, but I assumed that affinity would show all my fonts in its program since the system has them. My ignorance regarding the disorganised scruffy windows system is due to the fact that I am apple mac person but unfortunately have been forced to work with 'this thing called microsoft'. I would appreciate your help. Thanking you in advance.
  8. I have loaded the trial version of Photo and seem to have a problem with soft proof. As a test I exported some images from Capture 1 as PSD files. In Photo I add ( at the top ) a soft proof adjustment layer, select the canson Photo Lustre Premium RC profile. I can turn the layer on and off and there is no perceptible difference. With Capture 1 and Photo running concurrently on the same machine, same graphics card and same monitor I can switch between the Capture 1 image and the Photo image. Without soft proof on in Capture 1, the Capture 1 image seems to be the same as the image in Photo irrespective of the soft proof setting in Photo. When I select soft proof in Capture 1, the image changes significantly, this does not happen in Photo. The printer is a Pixma Pro 100S. There is clearly something wrong somewhere. I could have made a mistake but the process seems simple. I get the impression that I have not got any printer ICC profile to work in soft proof. I have not tried printing but I will not try that until I get soft proof to work. I have about 1 day left on the trial and I suspect that I am going to run out of time
  9. Hi I hope someone can help me. I have a windows 10 desktop computer using wireless to a HP envoy printer. When I try to print from affinity programme I get the printer starting then as it prints a line it stops and rejects the paper as if it has been completed. I am fully updated with all the windows 10 upgrades. This used to print fine but for some reason has started to do this which is very frustrating. Any advice will be gratefully received. I do not have any printing problems on other programmes.
  10. I am a beginner to designing. I just wish to learn it as a hobby. Tried Inkscape but it's UI isn't great. Then I tried Affinity Designer and liked it immediately. I think I'd like to buy it after the trial ends. But I saw the same product on Microsoft Store. Sadly couldn't find a trial version for that. I like the idea of sandboxed apps for the ease of installation and updates. However, as I read on the forums - the store and desktop license aren't tied together. There aren't any reviews available for the Store app (not even on the store itself). I would have liked to know how the UWP version compares to desktop version; not just in terms functionality, but also bug fixes, customer/community support and how it handles Windows protocols. Has anybody used the UWP version and would like to share their review? Is there a chance I can get a refund if I don't like the UWP version (if yes how long is the refund window?).
  11. Hi I just purchased Affinity Designer and downloaded the installer file for 1.6.5. However whenI click to save it to downloads it's name automatically "affinity-designer-1.6.5.123.exe" not sure if any of that matters for my issue. Now my issue is that once the file is downloaded I can't get it to open to install. I double click and nothing happeneds. No windows pop up asking if I want to let this program make changes. I tired right clicking it and selecting run as administrator and a Windows notification pops up asking if I want to allow this program to make changes and I select yes and then nothing happens. I able to get other installers to open from other applications and this is the first I've had this issue. I've tired reconfiguring paths to no avail. Thank you for your time, - Ian Bray
  12. I purchased Affinity designer last year and had no problems with it. I am now having massive problems in so fact that I cannot print it only prints the top half the top line of any sentences and then throws the paper out as if it has completed. I am using windows 10 with all the upgrades. I have a HP envoy wireless printer. This problem is really frustrating me as I use it to print information on posters. Can you please help. Thanks Eryl.
  13. Purchased Affinity Photo (v. 1.5.2.69) and tried to install on my Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) laptop. Nothing happens. If I try to install with administrator rights, I do get a dialog box asking if I want to proceed to allow the application to make changes to the system. I click yes, but again nothing more happens. I've looked through the forums but was unable to locate a solution. To be sure, I've downloaded the application twice, and tried starting my computer, but same result. Any assistance would be appreciated.
  14. Here is a screen recording of the installation problems I'm having. https://www.useloom.com/share/027411c90093451e88365f2101a3a703 I'm not a PC expert, so if you provide actual solutions that will work, or suggestions to try, please reply with screen shots please that I can follow easily. I've already put in a refund request, hoping it can get fixed or refunded. But placed this here just in case if there are others who have experienced the same problem
  15. Hi all . Would love the ability to sync program settings (Hotkeys, brushes , workspaces etc ) with my Microsoft account. If this isn't possible how about a single backup button which can be loaded onto another computer. Back when I was using photoshop & illustrator doing this was a real pain and hence never really got done would be great to see affinity make this process easy .
  16. I recently purchased Photo from the Windows Store and frankly there was one big disappointment: it has major useability problems in Tablet Mode (in my case on a Surface Book 1st Generation). Rightly or wrongly we have come to associate Store apps with Tablet Mode, so it comes as a bit of a shock to find one is just an old fashioned desktop app! On the Surface Book there is basically no ergonomic way of using the keyboard/touchpad at the same time as the Surface Pen and losing the latter is a huge bummer for a graphics app! After getting over the initial disappointment, I did reflect that a couple of relatively minor improvements would make it a lot more usable: 1. UI Scale settings. The app is much more touch friendly if the UI is set to 300% (rather than the recommended 200%). But this is global and wrecks other apps which are scaled properly in the first place. So what is needed is a UI scale setting within the app. On Windows 10, there should be two settings, one for Desktop mode and another for Tablet mode with automatic switching between the two. 2. On-Screen Modifier Icons. The keys that are used as pointer modifiers (shift, alt, ctrl) should have on-screen icons to make up for not having a physical keyboard. These could usefully be ranged at the bottom of the toolbar convenient to the left hand with the pen held in the right.I suggest these work in two ways: either touch and hold them like a virtual keyboard key; or, on machines were touch and pen are distinguishable, it should also be possible to touch the icon with the pen and then the shift state would be toggled until the pen is tapped elsewhere on the screen.
  17. I have just acquired Affinity Designer and Photo as I have been a user of Serif Page, Draw & Photo plus for a few years and they have served me well. I explored Inkscape, GIMP and Scribus but for the price of Affinity having proper support & planned development is worth the price. I have an initial couple of questions if anyone can help me with I would be grateful 1. In the serif products you could call up another of the programs from within the current work area i.e. if I was using Pageplus I could choose to edit a photo in Photoplus etc. Will this happen with Affinity products? 2. One of the things I found useful in Inkscape was when using the bezier tool the nodes were on the outside of the line, so you had two nodes on the outside of the line, whereas with the pen tool in Designer I get a node in the centre of the line. The two nodes were useful in that if you drew a flourish you could give the end a leaf effect by moving one of the nodes. Is there a way to replicate this with Designer? I not of I draw it in inkscape then copy and paste in to Designer I get the two nodes and can move one side of the line.
  18. I have just done a complete fresh in stall of windows 10 pro. i7 6 core, 32gb , GTX980, and solid state drives. All drivers are up to date. Newest version of Affinity Photo. RAW editing seems very choppy and slow. It was better on my windows 7 OS that need a serious clean, hence why i did a fresh install. Any suggestions as to a fix for this. LIGHTROOM is blazing fast. No issues there. Trying not to use adobe , but PHOTO RAW is not very usable at the moment on my machine. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks Gary
  19. Hello, I need to make a macro and the moving of the layers are not allowed in AP. I got a tip by a forum member to use the shortcut " CTRL+SHIFT+[ " but this is not working in Windows 10 on Azerty keybord! Is there another list of shortcuts for Azerty keybords? Thanks in advance
  20. I have just purchased Affinity Photo from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10, but I purchased Affinity Designer from this website a few weeks ago. I am just wondering if its somehow possible for me to also download and install Affinity Designer from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10 using my existing license?
  21. Hi guys. I'm using at the moment Photoshop 5 and testing Affinity 1.6 for Windows. Looks very good and seriously an alternative to Photoshop, because I hate the subscription model of Adobe. However, my question is more the following. Is it possible to use Affinity either on my laptop or on my desktop when I buy one licence? Meaning, can I install it on both instance and use it either/or? I’m using Windows 10 64bit with an Acer Power Desctop 16MB RAM and a Asus Power Desctop 16MB RAM. Thanks for a quick info
  22. 23. Hello all. Recently I ordered an XP-Pen Artist16 15.6 Inch Monitor Drawing Tablet and I'm awaiting delivery this week and looking forward to it. I have, however, heard some complaints before about calibrating colour, or rather not knowing how to, and being sure that drivers are installed appropriately otherwise there would be issues with pressure sensitivity and such. I heard XP-Pen is a very good alternative to Wacom and was more than happy to decide on the investment, but I was wondering if anyone here has used the Artist series before and would have some tips on colour/cursor calibration, driver installation or any other experiences to make sure that starting using it on Photoshop CS6, TV Paint or any other drawing software will be as smooth and frustration free as possible? And is there a chance that other drivers being installed on my PC such as Wacom or Huion would cause any interference with the XP-Pen one, as I have used both brands before? Any advice or shared experiences at all would be greatly appreciated. I use a HP Pavilion 15.6 inch laptop with 8GB ram, AMD A8-4555M APU processor and a 64 bit operating system on Windows 10 (with pen and touch support) if any of this should be taken into consideration also. Thank you in advance for your kind support and help. - Mark K
  24. Please enhance the UI. Poor usability working with windowed images. Many professional users have large hi-res monitors and feel constrained to viewing just one image at a time in a tab. Working with images in free floating windows is much more productive for many people, but Affinity Photo's handling of windowed images is woeful. Sorry, but here's why. Opening or creating a new image put it in a tab - always. There is no option to permanently default to windowed documents Windows are always huge, even if the image is 200x200 pixels the window is as big as my 4K monitor! There are no options or shortcuts to automatically resize the window to fit the image. (There's an option in Photoshop to always resize the window to the image when double clicking on the magnify icon - very handy) The corners of Photo's windows are very difficult to grab in order to manually resize them. New or opened images are zoomed in to fill the screen. Why? The default should be 100%.Dragging a tab to become a window retains this unrequested and unnecessary level of zoom. Small scroll bars in each window that lets you scroll so far that it pushes the image out of view. I don't understand the purpose of that. The scroll bars never fill with width of the window. In all other apps, at 100% zoom the bars are 100% of the width/height of the window. Photo defies this age old logic. See attached screenshot. Alt+Tab is supposed to jump to the next application or display thumbs of all apps running. But when working with windowed images, Alt+Tab jump to the next image (very frustrating if you just want to jump between apps) and displays thumbs of all of the images currently opened. Photo needs an option to tell Windows 10 to treat all windows as part of the same application so there's only 1 Photo window ever shown when Alt+Tab or Windows+Tab is used. A status bar for each window to show the image's size in pixels (or other preferred unit) would be very handy. Minimising Photo and then maximising it causes all windows to be redrawn (slowly) and placed into a different depth order. The image I was last working on is no longer at the top of the windows. All of the above is hampering my productivity. After using Photoshop for 20 years I'm stuck in my ways, but a tabbed view is crazy if you need to work with many images at once and have sight of them constantly. It's not to everyone's taste, sure, but at least give users a choice and have the windowed choice working nicely without the usability issues I've described above. Thank you.
