  1. Audrey Hepburn: Moon River (Vector) Portrait (Affinity Designer/Photo) https://b-bertuleit.de/audrey-hepburn-portrait/
  2. Hello! So, my question is basically, "what's the big jump/difference between AP and AD?". I know this question has already been asked and the short answer is: "AP for pixel and photo editing and AD for vector-based graphics and illustration." Here's my point: I've been using Photoshop and Illustrator for a while but I'm transitioning to Affinity, 'cause it's lovely. I've been doing social media posts that mix images and graphics (text, shapes, graphic elements, etc) since before the transition, and it was clear to me the point where PS and AI intersected. I could not do "organic" strokes with the pen tool on Photoshop, neither could I edit text as curves. I couldn't work smoothly with gradients, merge shapes with complex operations—like pathfinder—and the list goes on. Photoshop was pretty limited in vector managing, and Illustrator couldn't do pixel work. Fast forward, I open Affinity Photo and it's like I don't need a vector software anymore. Everything I'd need to open Illustrator for is inside Affinity's pixel-based editor. As if it's not enough, AD can handle pixel manipulation—though I didn't use it enough to know its limits. I've tested both AP and AD during the free trial and, after expiration, bought Photo. I'm considering buying Designer now because their workflow together is pretty amazing, but do I really need it? What can Designer do that Photo can't? I feel like I can take the pen tool on Photo and create any shape I'd want, applying colors effortlessly. Can someone enlight me? Thanks!
  3. I was wondering if it's possible (or could be possible in an update) to have vector textures applied to vector brushes? What I mean by that is let's say I create an image of dots (all vector) then output it into a vector format could that then be used as the source texture for a vector brush? Would be great as then you would have all vector throughout a file instead of some bitmap and some vector which obviously then limits how large it can be printed at. I totally appreciate the bitmap brushes and what can be done with them but for some things (for example a halftone pattern) it would be great if they could be vector based so that they could then be output at any size when exporting. Many thanks for any input on this and apologies if it's already possible and I'm missing it somewhere as I seem to be doing that a lot lately. Very probably old age starting to set in!

    1961 Ferrari 250 GT

I started this thinking it would be much easier to draw than the Maserati was. It wasn't. LOL
  8. I attached a screenshot below. My question is - how do I manipulate text like the picture to curve/warp only the bottom or top part of the text? I understand that I would likely have to convert the layer to curves. But after that, what would I do to keep the top of the text on a line, and and curve the bottom of the text as it looks in the picture. The red lines are added to emphasize what I mean. Thanks!
  9. Greetings, I encountered this: I wanted to 'boolean add' those two shapes but was not able to get the right result. The fill mode is set on winding as shown in the first image (add1.jpg) but when I 'add' those two shapes I get the result as shown in second image (add2.jpg) (also same result if I would set fill mode on alternate or if I would press 'boolean divide') So because the letter 'r' in the image is drawn this way, I think, is why I have this issue. I know how I could bypass this but it would be a weird way :p I would've expect from the 'boolean add' button to just merge everything into one shape. I'm starting to use AD more and more, Awesome software! Thank you!

    Maserati Concept

Hello, "it was a good idea at the time" - I almost wish I didn't start this as it was very time consuming. Anyway, I think it came up alright. Thoughts?

  12. Hey everyone! This is the first time I'm using the Affinity forum so I apologise if I have used it incorrectly. I have made a vector shape with a 20pt border around the edge. Is there a way to expand the vector to include the 20pt border? Thanks in advance, Matt
  13. Hi group, is there a way to adjust the accuracy when trying to select vector curves with my Apple pen? It is making adjusting my vector lines and points a living hell. It selects curves that are not even close to the one I want to select. I used to make this easier by switching to line view but this solution doesn’t work with iPad designer. Maybe this is a bug? Not sure.. Thanks ✌️
  14. *Edit* This tool would have different functionality than the existing sculpt mode of the Pencil tool. My suggestion for the Affinity Designer apps would be to add a tool along the lines of the flash selection tool. Attached below is an example of what it would functionally be able to do: Basically adjust lines/shapes without the need to select them first. It is a quality of life feature missing in almost EVERY vector illustration tool, but flash. It is a shame really. Even illustrator doesn't take advantage of this idea that lives within it's own ecosystem. This tool in Flash feels a lot like sculpting! Key features: -ability to manipulate segments and points of a vector line without selecting the object. (this also means editing separate objects is super fast) -When manipulating line segments, it does not adjust adjacent segments. (allowing the person to free-form manipulate shapes, and adjust points and segments as they see fit.) -context switches to a selection marquee when outside a certain threshold of a point or line segment. This selection marquee would add points where it intersects lines and allow the user to delete the selected segment(s), or keep the additional points in their current vector line. Let me know what you think!

My first piece of work done entirely on iPad. Absolute game changer, thanks for all your efforts Serif. It was worth it. (Hi-res of this will end up on instagram later, once I’ve worked out how to reformat for square on iPad)
  16. Just thought it'd be nice to have an eraser tool in the vector/curves persona. Being able to erase part of a vector shape is really nice feature when you don't want to be doing everything manually by using the pen tool. Thanks!
  17. Hello all. I have been desperately trying to figure this out for a few days now, and am at the point with this program that I want to throw my whole computer out the window.. Anyways, I have a design that I've used several times before, yet now for some reason affinity is not recognizing it as a closed path, closed image, or a whole design at all. I can only select line work, the nodes (should be??) all connected.. Yet when I attempt to fill the image, the fill is all over the place as if the paths are not connected or that I'm trying to fill non-closed space. I don't understand. I normally can select one section, for example, the horns of the this skull design and fill it with a color. So on and so forth. I don't know whats going on and I'm really hoping I'm just overlooking a simple fix. I've tried connecting paths, snapping nodes, grouping, ungrouping, I'm not even sure what else to list but I have run out of options. I attached the exact file that I'm working with below... please help! -MC jellypins ram design.afdesign

    DOOM inspired DTM logo

Really wanted to do a DOOM version of my branding for a while, so I took elements from both the original logo as well as the reboot and mashed it together. Really happy with the results. This is my first big project fully utilizing Affinity Designer. Fully vector and fully in-house.
  20. Hi, I am totally new to graphic design, so my apologies if I need dumb-proof step by step. I have downloaded a number of vector patterns which I need to recolour. I have managed to input a set of global colours, which I would like to be my "Brand palette". I need to separate each individual elements in order to recolour them separately, ideally using my brand colour as main colour setting. I can't "ungroup" the pattern and do not seem to be able to recolour as fill. Also, I thought you could recolour the similar shapes at once. Could somebody be kind enough to give me step by step from start to finish? Thanking you in advance...
  21. Does anyone know of a tutorial to show how to change line art (like a coloring book page) to vector? Any ideas for the best way to make coloring pages? I have Procreate 4 for the iPad, as well as Designer/Photo and Photo for the iPad.
  22. I have been searching for a while now, but cant find any "select same colour" feature. All I can find is a feature request post from 4 years ago asking for this. Surely this rudimental feature has been implimented by now. Selecting and replacing a colour is one of the main benefits of vector work, to not have this seems crazy to me. I know the dev team is small and your product is so superior to Adobe is so many ways, but missing fundamental features like this makes it unusable for real world projects. I hope I am being a dullard and a select same colour feature is available. If not please add it to the top of the list of features in the next update.
  23. I was recently producing a set of icons and encountered an annoying error when expanding shapes with rounded corners. I've previously posted this on the subreddit, which you can view here – https://www.reddit.com/r/Affinity/comments/6p9fjk/designer_expanded_strokes_are_not_straight/ Essentially when you work at smaller scales and use a border radius of less than 25% (I was using 15% I think) the edges are not perfectly straight as you'd expect. This is more obvious the lower the radius value and the smaller the stroke width. Examples: Before expanding – http://imgur.com/e6JStLV After expanding – http://imgur.com/f8C2plU To clarify this isn't a just visual bug, the actual vector data is affected, as though the anchor points have had their handles adjusted. I'm able to replicate this in version 1.5.5 by creating a rounded shape 35px wide with a stroke of 0.4pt, corner radius to 5 and using the expand stroke command. Results – http://imgur.com/a/ttNuT Worryingly. this still happens when you scale the shape up first. I tried it at 350px wide with the stroke scaled with the object and the curvature is still occurring though it isn't as obvious unless you actually look for it. For what it's worth I'm using a Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with OSX 10.11.6.

  25. Hello Affinity fans Today I drawn flamingos, interesting long-legged birds. I have made not use of textures, patterns, pixel layers or brushes, I just wanted a very simple illustration, just shapes, pen and gradients. Give a look at the illustration, drawn in Affinity Designer and tell me what do you think, leave your feed backs, write positive and negative The full project here on behance
