  1. Hi! I've just installed the trial for the desktop Affinity Designer to give the software and vector drawing a try but I'm experiencing issues with pressure sensitivity. I'm on OSX Mojave, Affinity 1.6.5, using an XP-Pen tablet. The pressure sensitivity setting is turned on, and the pressure works fine in other applications (AI, PS, etc.). Some oddities are once the Pressure controller is turned on, the size of the brush drops down to its default smallest size but None changes it to the set default size (e.g. 32px). I thought perhaps I wasn't pressing hard enough so I went to the highest size but it made no difference. Lastly, it creates strange patterns if I continue to hold the drawing for a moment at the start of the stroke, which you can see in the attached image. I've tried relaunching, and restarting. Any ideas? So far, this is a bummer to start but I'm hoping it can be fixed. Thanks!
  2. Hello! Is it normal to have my vector's edges jagging when I put something into it as shown in the uploads below? Is there any way to solve this?
  3. Is there a way to distort vector artwork along a defined shape? Is there a way to simulate tilting it backward into space, skew or warp the artwork?
  4. Im not sure how useful or good they are, but I made some vector brushes.. useful for me, and if anyone can use them, here you go :-) i made them for the love of vintage lettering styles, and I use it for backgrounds, like the old Sanborn Maps style.. Anyway, as I’m quite new to brush making, I’m sure they can be improved, and if I do, I’ll update them here :-) hope it it will be useful for some :-) and they can be downloaded from here.. feel free to give feedback.. good or bad is welcome as long as it is constructive:-) 276ccm Vintage Lines.afbrushes
  5. Hi good day my intention is to export a 64x64 pixelated graphic, well if I export it directly, the quality is not what I expected. Is there any way to do this?
  6. Hi, This is redrawing of detail from Mark's Ryden painting "Snowhite" (full painting is lil bit disturbing and might be assignet to 18+ category, if anyone want to search it on the web). Detail: I redrawed a head of bunny without surrounding stuff. Just for practice and increase skills. I spend on this many hours and im still not fully satisfied (fur was a problem for me). All with vectors and some FX'es (blurr).
  7. Hi, Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I've spent the last few hours trying to find a solution including on here, with no success! I've successfully edited my .svg file to remove the background, and I'm now happy with it. The only problem I can forsee is that the vector lines are still visible and I'm worried about how the image might print. How on earth do I blend the edges so the resulting photo looks smooth? It's especially visible in the top prong of the plug. I've tried blur tools with no success. Is there any way of doing this? Thank you in advance, sorry if it's a simple (stupid) question, I just can't work it out and now my head hurts! uk plug no background.afdesign

    Second attempt

Affinity You Rock!!! This is my vector illustration of a painting I did almost 20 years ago, (I can’t take credit for the original work as that was copied from a magazine). I also did a photoshop version some years ago for a competition on worth1000 (anyone remember that?) I've tried to do something different and use more of designers tool’s than I did with the car in my 1st go. Hope you like it. cheers

  10. I said in an earlier post (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/75089-vintage-cigarette-packets/) I'd started a little project to reproduce some old cigarette packets (or packs, if you're on that side of the Pond). Here's another: Park Drive. Once again, I've used vectors to make the letter shapes, with a bitmap fill for the gold shadows, made by sampling the original image, and I've finished off in Photo with Merge visible and a couple of pixel textures to make it look a bit 'lived-in'. This time I thought I'd be a bit more ambitious... and try a twenty instead of a ten! And the original looked like this:

  12. Well ! i'm back with this other which i believe will help us all. Personally i like the way Serif made it cross-edit between all 3 piece of software but ... because there is always a but ! i Think the way it was and is managed is a bit counter productive or maybe not at its fullness. let me explain ! Here when you have a file opened on APub and want to do some work on it with ADesigner you can Edit with Designer then the whole project is transferred there leaving APub empty of everything but sometime we only want to edit a precise thing such as a smart shape etc... thus making the transfer of the whole project to ADesigner a kind of ... What if Serif could make it possible for us Click on the Object we want to edit and : 1- Right click on it then chose Edit with : Photo or Designer (depending of what we may want to achieve) 2- After selecting the desired object, we can also click the related persona (place where we want to edit) then have that precise thing migrated there for its edit 3- Should be the option we currently have, if we select nothing but click on one of the persona or chose to Edit with ... then whole project get migrated there for its further edit leaving APub Blank. The first 2 options should leave the core project opened in APub then only we should be able to edit the select object then click save to get its edit saved as an update withing the already opened and not closed project withing APub. The we can chose to edit only a part of the project without leaving the main tool we use and see the updates in real-time. Well, more geared peoples can add to this idea and help make this get better. Blessing !
  13. I'm currently test driving all of the Affinity products in hopes of leaving Adobe's Creative Cloud, but am coming up just a little short on some key tool necessities. The biggest hole I can see is the ability to distort or free transform vector nodes, whole objects or outlined text (curves). This is a tutorial on creating 'curved' text using 'free transform' tools in Illustrator from 2000: http://www.balloontales.com/curved-type/ Or selective scaling when nodes are selected. Here's an example of the function; keep in mind this isn't about WHAT is being created, it's the 'how'. http://www.balloontales.com/tv-shape-balloon/ Just added functionality to node/vector manipulation and I can then say goodbye to Adobe Illustrator. If these functions already exist, can someone point the way to any related tutorials? Thanks! Good stuff so far; just need a few more tools to be GREAT stuff. G.

    Vintage cigarette packets

A couple of years ago I attempted a vector version of a British classic art deco design, the Wills's Wild Woodbines packet. Now I know what I'm doing, I'll have another go and get it right; meanwhile, here's a couple more I've done recently (and a little more accurately). This one I finished off with a little noise to take the shine off, as it were ... ... and this one I applied a couple of texture layers to, to make it look a bit more knocked about. If anyone's interested, I'll post the whole afdesign file for you to see what I did -- let me know.
  15. Affinity Designer rasterizes stock vectors that are saved as EPS format. Is there a workaround for this? I can't see it being an Adobe illustrator replacement if this can't be achieved.
  16. Hello Everyone, Well, i maybe missing something but i can't Zoom in and Out on ADesigner since the last beta install. Tried to reset stuffs in there but nothing does... Well it is something i use a lot on projects ... like i said maybe i'm missing something here on how to get it working again. Please instruct me and if it is a Bug of the new beta, please advice for a workaround. Blessings !
  17. Link to Tutorial: http://hmturnbull.com/writing/fantasy/map-making/introduction/ Description: On my website I'm writing a series of tutorials on how to create a fantasy map using Affinity Designer. I've seen a lot of tutorials for fantasy cartography, but they all seem to focus on either hand-drawn maps or maps made in raster software. Using my method, one can create a fantasy map that will scale infinitely and is easier to edit throughout the process. In this tutorial, I will teach you how to make a versatile map that you can use for stories or role-playing games.
  18. Hello all, I designed a logo and used the outer shadow effect, Radius is set to 0 px. (see picture below) My expectation was, when exporting this to a PDF x4, that this shadow still is a vector element. When zooming in the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat, I can see that the effect was rasterized. In the PDF export preferenced, "Rasterize: Unsupported elements" is activated. Switching this option to "Rasterize: Nothing" will result in a PDF file without any shadow. Is there any way to keep effects as vector elements like in Adobe Illustrator? Thanks for your hints! I'm using Designer 1.6.1 on Mac OS X Regards, Holger
  20. I know how to create a raster based brush that can be used in the Vector Persona of Designer for the IPad Pro What I want to do is essentially make a brush out of a vector shape or set of strokes. Is there a way to take a set of individual strokes (see attached image) and make them into a new brush that scales and stretches as I draw? Like a typical vector brush found in Illustrator. I don’t want to have to convert this to a jpg, then slice it, then bring it back in as a New Textured Intensify Brush. Can I make a new custom Solid Brush? I just want a clean black shape exactly like the image attached as a brush. Is that possible? It can be done in .AI no problem. I realize this isn’t .Ai but I was hoping there is a way to do it. Thx. C’
  21. Hi all,I really like Affinity Designer but the more features arrive, the more complicated is becomes.. There is a new challenge for me and Affinity Designer for which I would need your help and ideas: Creating a mermaid digital paper as a seamless repeating pattern. I got an at least basic version of the attached one (no glitter, no lightning etc.) but due to the shadows it wasn't seamless on the vertical. If seamless isn't possible due to the different lightning effects of my sample picture attached, how could I achieve anyway the digital paper mermaid look of my sample? Important: It definitely has to be scalable vector, no copied images etc.. Thanks a lot in advance. I'm looking so forward to your help and your ideas! Foxi
  22. Hey, I want to overlay an image on my business logo. I know how to overlay images on text but how do I do it on a logo? I tried doing it the same way as I do on text, by dragging the image layer that I want to overlay to the text layer. But the image didn't appear on my logo. It just turned a different colour. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  23. Hi guys. I purchased this vector brush pack from the Affinity Store a day or two ago and just now had the chance to play around with it -- and I'm a little confused. When I zoom in on a brush stroke, or when the stroke size is too large, it looks blurry, as if it was a raster brush. Am I doing something wrong here? Are these not vector brushes?
  24. Does Affinity Designer export vectors without rasterizing?
