  1. Hello, a most fundamental function is missing and unfortunately missing ! I hope that in your next update you add the ability to vectorize like in Adobe Illustrator. And if you can do even better, I would be so happy ! That I could talk about it to my apprentices, to my graphic designer and artist friends ! I dream of this really coming true, thank you for taking this suggestion into account. Because many around me are asking for it. Thank you for your attention and take care of yourself. And thank you for your great work!
  2. This isometric illustration project was probably one of the most difficult I've ever worked on but absolutely worth all the effort in the end. Big shout out to Kevin House for taking the time to provide the walk-through and resources to get it completed 💪
  3. Here are my two attempts at the "Reflected Skyline" illustration project from the Affinity Designer Workbook. Hope you guys enjoy! Any feedback is much appreciated V1: V2:
  4. Hi, Apologies if this has already been requested - I did search around for a while for this, but there were a lot of varied results. I would like to request proper vector brush support. I feel like this is probably quite a fundamental feature for a lot of people and would be a highly valued addition to the Affinity suite (which I really like, by the way!) Thanks, Jack
  5. New work - Our Lady of Brighthelmstone. This was my recent submission for a call to artists put out by a new gallery opening in the city of Brighton & Hove - sadly rejected. The theme was metamorphosis, so I painted the city morphed into a fabulous drag queen, in the style of an Uber-kitsch religious painting (taking “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” as my main inspiration - Brighthelmstone is the old name for the city of Brighton). There are a total of 33 visual “easter eggs” contained within the picture, some architectural, some cultural. If any of you are familiar with the place, have fun spotting them! (Created on Affinity Designer 2 for iPad)
  6. Hello, I have an EPS file I got from Vecteesy (attached / link) and have been trying to open it with Affinity Designer or Photo, but when I try I get a blank page (also attached). I'm able to open it with Photoshop, so I know the file isn't corrupted. At the moment I need to work with those vectors in Affinity Designer. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you in advance. vintagebulb.eps
  7. I don't know where these ideas come from, nor why they pick on me. But there we are; more unsolicited nonsense made flesh (digitally speaking). Mostly vectors with a few Effects here and there. First off: a mock-Tudor house, a style popular between the Wars, and the Lombardy poplars that were also all over the place. City gent in his working clothes and housewife in her posh frock. Next, the balcony of Buck House (that's Buckingham Palace to you) with a warm sunny queen and a damp soggy king. I have an idea or two more, which I'll post when I get round to them.
  8. Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of a project and I've hit a snag. I'm trying to remove the background from a person's image. For the smooth parts of the silhouette, like the general body and clothes, I'm using vector shapes, and for the more intricate details like strands of hair, I'm using pixel-based masks. (That's how I've always done it.) I thought I could use the compound mask option to combine these two masking techniques into one neat mask. However, that doesn't seem to be possible right now. I want the vector shape to stay vector at all costs for better editability. In the past, for projects like this, I've rasterized the vector shape as the last step, but I'd like to avoid that now. I thought the compound mask would be the perfect option for the task. Has anyone else come across this issue? (Sorry if I missed the thread; if there's one, feel free to point me in that direction.) Maybe this is something that the devs are already working on? I'd love to hear your thoughts or any solutions you might have! Cheers! Dennis *I've attached the masks as a file for testing purposes. 9. Here are a few of my AI Chip + Logo Icon Assets, these assets are plain vectors (grouped vector curves). This AI set is kept in b&w (graylevels), so you have to color the curves yourself if you have a need for colored representations. The corresponding assets files: ai_chip_logo_icons.afassets - Have fun with these free to reuse AI assets! 😳
  10. Here are two of my Badge (Label) Assets sets, these assets are plain (silhouettes) + vintage (grouped) vector curve(s) based badges/labels. The two sets do contain various forms of these. NOTE that the assets for the below shown vintage badge set don't include any preapplied text, it's below just shown this with text way in order to give you an idea how they could look with some used/applied text on them! The corresponding assets files: Badge_Assets.afassets - Have fun with these free to reuse badges!
  11. What I am trying to do/accomplish I am trying to find a way to get a vector graphic/ curve layer from an image I made in affinity photo. If I could either use an outline as the curve/path such as tracing the outline with the vector brush or filling my selection as a vector shape that is what I am trying to figure out. What I have tried Convert to curves - This has been greyed out on the pixel layers I have been trying to convert Designer flood fill - can flood my layer or selection but doesn't allow the shape to be converted to curves Creating an outline to convert to curves Masking a vector shape. Selecting the pixels of the pixel layer and using that as a mask over a basic shape. Selecting pixels from layer and using the vector brush to fill in selection A bit more info on the shape/ pixel layer I am trying to convert. I have taken a layer of perlin noise and have a posterize adjustment layer over the top of it. I am trying to make the shapes from each layer of the posterize. I can get to selecting the different layers, filling them and adding an outline but can't find a way to make them vector shapes without a third party program to vectorize each layer. ---> This is the image that I have been working on This is just one of the layers. This is what I have been trying to convert to a curve. If there as another way to generate these same kind of patterns (I need something organic) please let me know. I was also looking at Procedural Texture from this tutorial Affinity Photo : Perlin Color effect tutorial how to - YouTube
  12. I saw this model in an antique shop, and thought it would be a good challenge to do in vector. It wasn’t until I took a better look, and started vectoring, that I realised how much work must have gone into the model, for what was probably a cheapish souvenir.
  13. Hi all, I need some advice. I've been working on a website redesign for a client, they recently launched the site but I noticed the website logo wasn't as clean and sharp as the same logo used the same size on a video thumbnail on the same page. I have tried every way I can think of exporting this logo so it looks as good but can't get it to be the same. The spec has to be a transparent png as it sits on an image background. roughly 202 px wide, can be a few pixels more if needed. The artwork is vector based and being output from Affinity Publisher. I've attached a screenshot of the page in question. The logo that is slightly blurry is top left (T Telum Media). The good version is bottom right. Thoughts?
  14. I would like to be able to select a (vector) line or shape and apply a 'fractalise' effect to it that would make the each line segment appear jagged between its two end points. This should be adjustable to increase or decrease the jaggedness of the line, which would also affect how far the jaggies deviated from the original path. This would allow the easy creation of, say, lightning, or the line of a river, without having to manually draw the whole thing. The attached screen capture shows an example from a program I used to use that does this. The base shape is just a square with four vertices at the indicated points. 'Fractalising' the square turned it into the shape shown in the image. If the fractalisation setting were turned down the shape would become less and less exaggerated. With the fractalisation turned to zero it would display as a simple square.
  15. hello! as a user of clip studio paint, i was hoping to have a similar feature where (for my lack of a better term) there will be multiple "lines" or vector lines per layer. i think it's great that lines are separated every layer so I don't need to look for all the lines nor group them manually/automatically. Huh. come to think of it I don't even know if there's an automatic grouping. But i digress. It also might be because i haven't explored much of affinity designer but what I do is I keep connecting my lines using the node tool after every drawing. But that's exhausting. I enjoy all the apps! But as a comic artist, this feature is helpful for me. My suggestion is perhaps to have a "button" where we can click it to enable multiple lines per layer or do the default one (lines as layers). thank you!

  17. Hi, I am trying to design a negative (white/black) version of a coloured logo. The text "Affi kart" is composed of the actual two words in black plus an outline curve in white. The issue is that when I set the black "Affi kart" text to white, as it should be, the separation between the text and the sweeping curve disappears (see picture below). Of course, I could just paint the white outline black. However, that only works on coloured backgrounds and I actually need to print this logo as a transfer sticker. Another way to do it would be to set the blend mode of the outline to "erase", but that only works in a raster file and I would like to keep everything as a vector, if possible. Is there a way to cut/erase the white outline from the sweeping curve? Thanks for any help anyone can offer. AFFI KART.pdf
  18. I used AI to create a vector image, but when i import it into affinity I see hairline white gaps between each shape, which are also apparent when then saving it as a png or jpg. The gaps don't seem to be there in AI, so is it an export issue with AI or something with affinity thats doing it? Tried exporting from AI as both svg and pdf. Cheers!
  19. Good morning ! A very essential option is missing: vectorization. The possibility of vectorizing an image in jpg or png. This is a very important function for me. Will you put in the next update?
  20. Kheyyy... I was wondering how long it would take to make a vector portrait. Answer: a lot. Introducing my friend Nathalie: ... and wireframe preview:
  21. I really like the freehand vector pencil tool in Designer, but there are some thing that are a bit annoying and could improved imo. 1. Auto close was added in 2.0, but I find that in most cases it is not very useful. I would rather have the ability to close a path when the starting and end point are at a specified distance from eachother, say 10 points. This would allow me to use sculpt mode AND create closed paths, which is not possible right now. 2. Set smoothing factor: I would like the ability to set the accuracy of the stroke I draw, from very raw input with a lot of accuracy to a more smoothed out line. 3. Related to the previous point is the problem I have with zooming and pencil accuracy. The more zoomed out you are, the less accurate/more smoothed out the path becomes. I wish for a general smoothness regardless of zoom level. 4. I would love the integration of a Path eraser, that would be able to cut lines up to an intersection. This is possible using the Shapebuilder tool right now, so the code is there, but having it integrated in the Pencil tool and available with a shortcut would make it much more intitive and fast. This would probably require an option to keep all drawn paths selected.
  22. I make a vector graphic in Designer and want to use it in my Publisher layout. I copy it. No paste option in Publisher. Can I not paste it in Publisher? Is there a decent workflow here? Do I have to export as PDF or SVG and re-import into Publisher? 🥵
  23. I was wondering, now I am using a vector object with a 50% opacity and multiply blend mode, but could I also use an Ellipse vector object to clip adjustment layers with? The workflow is that I have symbols which should affect the background image. by darkening the portion of the symbol.
  24. Hey all, Is this behaviour intentional and if so, why is there no difference between the content types? Scenario: I'm working on a design I started in Designer with multiple artboards. I decided to add some pizzazz with a raster brushes on a designated pixel layer – either in Designer's Pixel Persona or via File → Edit in Photo (either works, behaviour is the same). I add a pixel layer and draw something. I realise that I have made a mistake and want to clear the layer and start again. I usually do this with a short succession of shortcuts: ⌘+A (in the History palette this is called »Raster select all«) to marquee the whole (visible) canvas and backspace or delete/⌦. Expected Result: The (visible) content of the pixel layer is removed. Issue: In my case, for some reason, the shortcut ignores the fact that I am currently working on a pixel layer, and instead of creating a marquee selection of its contents and deleting it, it selects the parent pixel layer itself and deletes it. Now this might not be a big deal if it's a single layer, and you might argue »Why don't I just delete the layer and create a new pixel layer (⌘+⇧+N)?« And I'd say »Sure, that might work for single, regular layers.« The real problem is that this also works (or rather doesn't work) for linked pixel layers. If a single linked layer is deleted, it's not so easy to fix afterwards and involves copying, pasting, positioning if you've placed them in several different groups, shapes and so on – a bit of a PIA. I also considered »Invert Pixel Selection« (Select → Invert Pixel Selection or ⌘+⇧+I) as a different approach, as this works with photo documents. But to no avail. But I've noticed that this behaviour works for new documents, so I'm not sure why it doesn't work for my existing document. Any help with this? Am I doing something wrong? Is the document somehow corrupt? I’ve attached my document, feel free to try the scenario, try to select the whole pixel layer content and delete it with the designated shortcuts while maintaining the linked layer/s itself. Cheers Dennis Raster_select_all_bug.afdesign
