When you click inside the stroke width textbox, and press the up/down arrow keys, it increases/decreases by one point. The same should happen after clicking on the font size textbox. -
So far I think this is a great program. I am hoping to replace Adobe with Affinity. I would like to see a way to create simple character styles and paragraph styles. Also a way of creating reusable symbols for UI elements and art boards for different size web pages. -
Is there a way to select a default file type (AI, EPS, PDF, etc.) in Designer? -
Hi Folks, Just after a little help again if possible. I have created a line of text in a logo I am putting together for a client. I need to adjust a couple of letters and by that I mean I need to adjust certain parts of the letters shapes. Is there a way to convert the character to a shape and manipulate that way from within Affinity Designer? I know there are other programmes that can do this such as Pixelmator etc but I can seem to see a way in AD. Any suggestions? Thanks again Mark -
I have a circular diagram I am creating and want to type inside on a line that follows the same contour. Is there a video on how to do this anywhere? Thanks Ed -
I've been preparing several packaging files for vendors and continually run into a major roadblock when I want to outline live type. In Illustrator you can simply Select All and Outline Text. Done in 2 seconds and the file retains its structure. Is there currently anyway to accomplish this in AD? I'm aware of the (Layer >) Convert to Curves command. The trouble is that this command doesn't seem to penetrate groups. Which forces me to either: 1. Select/search though every group in the Layers panel for any and all text elements and manually convert them, which is both very time-consuming and prone to errors. or 2. Select All, Ungroup (x times) and then convert everything. This technically works, but it then creates an unmanageable file with hundreds of curve layers and also releases all clipping masks. :( Am I missing an awesome command or tool somewhere? Anyone know of an easier way? Thanks! :D -
I just saw Kubo and I can't get over how amazing it was so I decided to create some fan art. This seemed like as good a time as any to try out the Noise option in AD to give a textural, paper-like feel. I absolutely love how noise is seamlessly integrated into this program. I've avoided texturing things like this in past programs because it was too cumbersome, time consuming, and CPU intensive. None of that frustration here. What a wonderful feature. Great job Affinity!

Question! And thanks in advance. Is it possible to save a document as a Photoshop file and NOT render the type uneditable? I have tried several different options, in both APhoto and ADesigner and all result in type rendered pixel. I was able to save in PDF and then open it back in APhoto but my client says that upon opening the file in Photoshop all texts are pixels. -

Hi, First of all you've done a great work with the software. It's realy great tool to work with. I like it even more than Illustrator. Thank you. So the problem is that after last update I can't type or use shortcuts. Before update it was OK. Here is specs of my laptope if it helps. I tried to write words with double ff and tt and it could not show the letters. After few second program hanged and crashed. Later on i found out that the problem must have been ligatures.

I'd like a way to more quickly change the font of selected text. I'd like to be able to do this: Press Hotkey > Type name of font > Hit Return to confirm. I actually see no place in the UI where I can input the name of a font, I only see a dropdown menu. Being able to hit a hotkey that takes me to an input field would go a very long way in speeding up my workflow.

Hi there, I am Chinese user, and I mostly type chinese text. I love Affinity Design, but when I type chinese text, I can't select chinese characters. In the chinese characters, the same voice have more text shape. so, I need select correct text to use. Does anyone can help? I'm working on some stuff in Affinity Photo. I am organizing and locking layers as I build out my document, but sometimes when I go back the type I set — it has been pixelated. I'm so confused. It has happened in a few documents in the past and I just figured I somehow rasterized the type. So this time I've been extremely cognizant of locking layers so I don't mistakenly rasterize the type. Im still finding that some type is rasterizing. I'm curious… anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong? Is there a short cut I may be hitting ? Thanks -
Hello, This morning I started with the Affinity trial version. I have trouble with the type tool. At first iI couldn't type with the artist type tool, I only saw the other type tool( sorry don't now the name) in the toolbar. After trying and searching for a while I restarted the program to see if it got better that way. And now I lost the entire type icon(s) on the lefthand toolbar. Can you tell me how to get my type tools back? Regards Harmke -
Hey guys, turns out I use a lot of text sized at 30 points. Is it possible to add that value to the text size presets in the dropdown? It's a big jump from 24 pt to 36 pt! Thanks! -
Hi everyone, I'm new on Affinity Designer and I got a problem concerning the path type. ( I've already checked the instructions in the helped menu but that doesn't work for me ). I hope you'll understand me because I work on the french version so that the traduction of the tools may not be exact. Well here's my problem: First I create the curve that will define the curve of my text, then I use the text box tool and I click on the curve I've juste created in order to insert a text that follows the curve. The text insertion zone is in the rectangular zone that defines the curve but the text doesn't follow the curve !! The photo attached shows where my text insertion zone is and how my text appears when I try the make a path type Thank you so much if someone here can help me, I've tried everything and I'd be very grateful ! :) Antonin

I am in the very early days of using Designer and cannot fathom how I can set preferences permanently. In Illustrator you set it under Illustrator/Preferences but I cannot see a similar option under Affinity Designer/Prefereneces. Every document I will work with will need text as point size (not mm) so how do I permanently set it? The same goes with the document dimensions - I want every document I create to be in mm so how do I do that? Thanks in advance. -
i have a fairly full range of Myriad Pro typefaces running via Font Explorer. AI sees them, AD doesn't - or at least it sees some (light, black) but not regular and bold. You can check them out with the file I was working on here… https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ct8syvuw6g5zvp/myriad%20font%20issue.zip?dl=0 Note the AD file is descended from an ai file from someone else, I was busy unpacking all the masks to get at it. But the issue occurs on any new AD file or whatever. But, as I say, not in other apps, like illustrator. Tim And just BTW, a keyboard shortcut for paragraph dialog along with the text character dialog (or better still, combine dialogues!) would be really really handy.

Hi all, here is a recent client project and my first logo/illustration piece done in Designer. It's for the CD cover of the Derwent Brass, a brass band in the UK. The title of the disc is "Diversity" The idea here was to try to suggest or display some of the many instruments in a stylistic way that are included in the band as a grouping that forms the backdrop for the CD's title banner. My usual process was adhered to here, approved sketch followed by vector buildup of elements on separated layers. See below for screenshots. I made use of the "erase" blend mode to hide certain areas which worked perfectly. Each letter was "skewed" individually, to conform to the contours of the banner. Colour palette was kept to a minimum of blues and golds and a heavy black outline style was used to delineate and visually connect each element. As usual, it was a delight to create in Designer. I am looking forward to the up-coming distort and warp tools mentioned in the "road map" to be able to do more of this kind of work with type in Designer. :)

Change Font on multiple Text Elements

Just how illustrator and freehand do, but as of yet not on affinity. If I have a bunch of elements on the page and say i decide to switch typefaces in the evolution of the brand Identity, in affinity i have to do this one by one over and over again. Hopefully this will be a quick fix for you folks. Note the freehand implementation is of course better - it allows selecting any old thing(s) (text, group, mixture of elements) and there is still facility to change the font - whatever type is within that selection will get changed. Of course I could go on and ask for styles etc but will leave that for hit further down the road. Cheers! -

Hi all. Here is my very first piece done in Designer from back in August I think. It was done with the initial free beta before the app store version came out. I wanted to test drive the app after stumbling across it and checking out all of the features and also seeing Jonathan Ball's initial work. It looked pretty promising. So with a sketch I had kicking around of a concept that didn't get beyond the sketch, I dove right in. This idea was one of several I had for a local brewery's new brew called "Full Kilt" a high octane Scottish Ale. I got hooked almost immediately and found the workflow new but not entirely foreign. Things made sense. I immediately made the piece my avatar. :) It's all vector, no pixel persona in this one...

Hi there! Firstly I'd like to say that this is one amazing program ideal for artists! A real treat to have come across. I have recently been creating my own font, It's great fun but can be tedious and I came across a cool plugin for fontlab studios which harmonizes the characters. Its called RMX harmonizer -http://remix-tools.com/harmonizer I thought that a tool like this for my artwork would be ideal! Not just for fonts! It would help make everything look really smooth and sleek and cut loads of time in the design process. I also think it will give the software a one up on illustrator as theres nothing like it for illustrator ;) I also had an idea a few years ago which I thought would be really helpful, I sent it to another company but unfortunately they haven't got back to me. Perhaps you'd like to have a look- Ive attached a pdf.. Its a tracer tool that would save a lot of time of cutting paths, joining paths.. I really hope you like the ideas and I look forward to hearing from you Matt Tracer Project Proposal.pdf
