  1. Whenever I have missing fonts in a file, Designer 2 can identify the family name but it cannot identify the style when the file is opened. I use Suitcase Fusion 20.0.7 as a font manager. When I find the family name it lists all the styles in the family (regular, bold, etc) In Suitcase Fusion I can click on the style to activate the font. If I happen to click on the correct style, Designer 2 will update the font immediately. If I don't click on the correct style nothing happens in Designer 2. But if I continue to activate different styles I will eventually hit the right one and it will update in Designer 2. Because of the time involved when fonts go missing I have created a font list for every project so that I don't have to hunt and peck for the correct style. Question: If Designer 2 can identify the correct font style when it is activated in Suitcase Fusion, why can't it identify the font style when the project file is first opened up? Designer 1 worked the same way.
  2. Pressing enter in a text field doesn’t update the cursor position visually, though it seems to be adding a return. The video demonstrates a single return vs pressing return twice and how the cursor doesn’t follow. FullSizeRender.mov
  3. When selecting text using the space bar trackpad, the cursor moves around but starting a selection using a second finger on the keyboard only works when selecting forward. Additionally the ability to long press on the cursor to pick it up and drop it doesn’t work at all. iPad Pro 11in 3rd generation IMG_0053.MP4
  4. Hello :) Not quite sure how to explain my problem, but here goes: I am working on a logo design and I used some curves and some type to make it. I would like to make it different colors, so I can present it to my client. The problem is, that I have to select all the curves and change the outline color for them, and then select the type (which I already converted to curves) and change the fill-colour. Is there any way that I can make the logo into a cohesive vector-file, so that I can select the whole thing and change the colour? This would also be helpful for exporting it, so the client doesn't have to deal with this issue, but can just change the color of it as needed? Thanks in advance! I'd really appreciate the help!
  5. First time I designed in Affinity Designer in sted of using Illustrator. Really loved it! Also I used "The Shizzle" pack from Bob Byrne – very cool stuff hi makes!
  6. I just wanted to let everyone know that Monotype, the creators of FontExplorer X, told me via a tweet that they definitely have Affinity products on their radar for integration. This is really good news, however as with all software development they have not been able to provide a timeline. I recommend that everyone who wants font activation and enjoy using FontExplorer X as much as I have over the past 10 years, should contact them and let them know there is a huge community wanting auto font activation. It's such a pain to do it manually. See below. @nathan_ford @monotype This is definitely on our radar, and we agree that Affinity apps are impressive. Thank you for your input, Chris! 2/27/20
  7. I'm sure there's a perfectly simple answer to this question, but I'm new to publisher and I don't have a book to refer to. After assembling my document, I decided to put in a semi-transparent image beneath the composition. When I placed the image on the lowest layer, I noticed that all my text was sitting in white, horizontal boxes. Now my document looks like a ransom note. I've looked in every menu and every tool, and I can't remove the white background behind my text. Any thoughts? Image attached. Thanks in advance. P.S. Whats the difference in function between the Place Image tool and the Picture Frame Rectangle tool?
  8. Hello, I have had type lag and slightly weird laggy graphics tablet issues with a pdf about 40meg in size - nothing strange with a brand new document. Tracking back and have tested this for 10 mins solid this morning, I have a SOLUTION that works for me. I stopped having the HYPERLINKS panel open. Closed it and everything I type appears immediately. I repeated opening and closing this panel and each time I closed it, typing was spot on and no laggy dragging with my Wacom Graphics tablet.(small Intuos Blue Tooth) The panel has a mix of well over 60 links from URLS to Anchors - each page of the pdf has a link back to contents page - about 50 pages at present. I have a 2012 upgraded iMac (16 meg RAM), running High Sierra as latest incarnations wont run my favourite software and the toys there are not really needed by me. The solution seems constant with repeatable results. - I hope this helps someone out there. techie bit: with Hyperlinks panel showing, very laggy with cpu = 100%, with solution - cpu drops to around 50% - and I have stopped swearing! Result.
  9. Hello affinity designer team. I would like to propose some additional type of tools to include in your roadmap priorities. These are the basic precision tools, like what you see in CAD software environments like fusion 360. I cannot emphasize enough the gravity and necessity that this would make affinity designer take a bigger leap towards gaining more users. One of the tools I am referring to are the arc tangent tool similar to fusion 360 (and other cad softwares), typing or input functionality for Line/edge length and angle, and lastly making the rotation angle information visible. There are a lot of things that a vector software can take advantage of some techniques and features that cad softwares use. Not necessarily to dive in all the cad tools, instead just the basic/simple features that we think are very beneficial for vector art. There are situations where an artist needs to have more control on the curves/lines angle Ex: Flourish or ornament designs. Currently, I believe the only angles and curves that an artist can make in affinity designer are just through eye estimation and grid snapping which In my opinion is also great when doing organic stuffs. When you want to apply some simple form of precision and control on creating shapes and curves, that would probably need some form of tools that gives you proper control while at the same time promotes consistency and uniformity. This would also definitely make the workflow much faster and creates an environment for artists to experiment and create innovations with the help of these tools and also with the existing feautres it already has. I hope affinity designer would soon add some kind of features. Thanks. https://autodesk.i.lithium.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/192801iEF9AA96E1495B49E/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-1
  10. I am trying to update a 100 page publisher file and have updated the current body style to change the font size. This works fine for new text that I apply the style to, but hasn't updated existing text based on the body style which is still in the original size. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a preference somewhere to update all items with this style to the new style definition? Cheers Gareth
  11. When I started using Affinity products first, I thought it's not possible to import PSD file and edit the texts. However, I searched on Google and came to know that it's quite possible by turning on "Import PSD text as text rather than bitmap" option on the Preferences. It'd be great if we see this option turned on by default on the upcoming updates What do you think friends?
  12. Hi there! I've just purchased Affinity Designer today. But seems like Show Special Characters is missing. Or maybe I'm not able to find it. Could you please help me finding this option? Many thanks! Have a nice weekend! Best regards Tamzid
  13. Hi Folks, one question: i exported a 2 page testfile pdf with pulisher. Even though the 2 pages have the same the content elements/type (cause i copied them), in the exported pdf the right/second page has sharp text, the left page on the other hand is pixelated. What i am doing wrong:-)? Greetings from Germany Jo 20190925_Broschuere_148x148_2TEST.afpub 20190925_Broschuere_148x148_2TEST.pdf
  14. Hi, there is some bounding box mischief when I sellect artistic text with some letters colored without the fill, just with stroke. Try to sellect the text with some other objects.
  15. I am looking to copy the formatting of typesetting from one paragraph to another. It is easy in InDesign using the eyedropper tool, not so easy in Quark. Does anyone have a suggestion please how to do this in Affinity Publisher? I can not find it in the help dropdown. Thank you.
  16. For most fonts selected, the rendering of the font features is unhelpful and just looks bad. To reproduce, open the 1.7.0.249 beta version of Publisher, pick a font, and click the Typography button. I see the following on Windows 10 Pro 1803.
  17. Hi, I'm new to affinity designer although I have been using affinity photo for a while. I'm needing to convert some type to outlines. Bit confused- is converting to 'curves' the same as converting to outlines and how do I do it? Thanks!
  18. I am trying to "left justify" some copy and it only goes to "justified left/ragged right", no matter what I try. I don't understand why it won't justify on both sides. The other options work, center justified, full justified, but the left justified option only goes to a regular left/ragged right. Is there a special way to create a text box? I just typed out the text and it seems to have created it's own text box. thanks.
  19. Hi, It wold be lovely to have google fonts browser integrated directly into Affinity Designer for iPad. So you can browse through type catalog and have search criteria like serifs, sans-serif, condensed, display etc... Also Adobe Type would be nice but i konow that is far fetched :) Cheers! Igor
  20. Hello, New to Designer but not vector programs. Looking to create a vertical arc with type. I've done it within Corel and illustrator but not in Designer. What am I missing? Thank you in advance. Lars
  21. I am trying to warp or manually curve a type design. I am baffled that a vector design program doesn't have this feature...it's a critical tool for any vector design. Type on path is NOT what I want because that tool does not address the bending perspective that warp creates. (see homemade type solution) any suggestions or advice?
  22. Hi all- New here! I'm trying to figure out how to write words in my logos (I know, the typing tool). What I mean is how do people write the words of a company name- do you usually download custom fonts from online websites, and if not, how does one make their own font? Maybe @ostrysharpcould help- I really loved your work in this feed.
  23. I just discovered, to my chagrin, that PagePlus X9 doesn't support ligatures, those special characters which, in Open Type fonts, "stand in" for certain letter combinations, usually those involving 'f'. See the png below for an example. Now, I know that only old-school has-beens like me care about such things, and I also know that there's nothing to be done about (legacy) PagePlus. But InDesign does it with elan, and it would behoove the Affinity team to at least consider doing it in Publisher. It's a nice touch that veritably screams professionalism.
  24. Hi everyone, Is there any way other than perspective distortion or maybe mesh-warp to transform/skew text like in the image?
