  1. Hi, I'm having troubles with a small design of mine. I want to apply a gradient fade (from both sides) on a text layer. I tried this method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5TqqrC3AOY. It works quite well, I get my faded sides of the text. But unfortunately, the colors get gradually desaturated as well. I'm attaching a screenshot, where there are 2 layers visible. One with the fade (and desaturation problem) and the other as a reference. I tried rasterising the text and then the fade works fine, the colors are preserved. But I need to keep the text as a vector. Am I doing something wrong? Could I achieve this effect on a vector text without losing color information? Thanks for any tip or advice.
  2. We Windows users normally have to jump over hoops to produce symbols in our text, using the Alt key and the numbers keypad. However, this does not work in the AF beta. Holding down Alt and then typing 0169 should produce the copyright symbol -- © -- but both the Artistic Text tool and Frame Text tool produce a generic hollow rectangle shape instead.
  3. vertical text arrangement is a very important way for Asian languages
  4. Dear colleagues, i recently purchased Affinity Designer (to migrate or at least expand good ol' Macromedia Freehand possibilities as main vector and layout tool) and discovered that i see no option to make Text paragraph with two or more Columns? Also i see no way to make text automatically reflow to other Text Block. Is there such options or not? I don't see at Features Roadmap topic too, unfortunately.
  5. I would love to see a feature similar to sketch's "exclude text values" option for symbols. This allows the user to have one symbol but stil be able to change the text content within the symbol without it changing the others. The text style, color etc... is still synced just not the actual value of the text. This would be extremely useful for buttons and inputs styles. Keep up the great work guys!
  6. Hey guys, Since the 1.5.1 Designer update, I've had a problem with the font drop down menu when using text. It seems that a new feature causes the font that I'm hovering over to appear at the top of the recently used list. However, the font previews in the drop down are different sizes, so when they appear at the top of the list, everything gets shifted, and it has become impossible to choose certain fonts, simply because of the other two fonts they are between. Very frustrating! Does anyone have a fix? Is it possible to make the preview sizes the same, or eliminate this feature? Is there a preference menu for the font drop down list? Please see photo attached and notice the font with a check mark near it, but it is not included in my recently used. :( Thanks!
  7. Bonjour, je ne vois pas comment faire pour faire suivre un chemin à un texte, comment forcer le texte à suivre une courbe ? Merci.
  8. I'm using Affinity Photo for Windows. My question is does it support typing in Arabic? because when I tried to the letters appeared detached where it should be connected. Also it appeared out of order, the last letter in the word comes first for some reason. Detached = ع ن ب Connected = عنب This problem happen with Photoshop and there was a solution for it. I'm not sure where or how to do it in Affinity Photo if it's there.
  9. Hello I have several text boxes one behind another in a document. In FreeHand I can select a text box that is behind of another and at that moment the element is active so I can edit the text and make changes. It is not possible in Affinity Designer? I can do Option + Clic and select the element behind, but I can not edit the text. When I tried, the box text goes is deselected and the most front box goes active. Selecting the text box via Layers panel comes to similar results. Thanks.
  10. Hey guys, what do you think about adding a method of selecting fonts similar to Photoshop or Flash. - Typing the letters from the font name narrows the search options (not only the first letter). - Browsing the fonts by UP and DOWN arrow keys. Thanks in advance!
  11. I would like to curve my font around clip art or pictures when making certain designs for logos and T-shirts, but I can't find where or how to do this. Please tell me it is possible and tell me what I am missing and how to do it. I am looking to curve up, curve down, bridge up and bridge down and circular Thank you, Scott
  12. I was wondering if anyone has made a suggestion to a warp feature. Adobe Illustrator has one where you can warp text and objects with arches, arc, upper and lower arc, flag wave, fish eye, inflate, etc. I believe this would be a very welcome addition to the features that Affinity Designer can offer.
  13. Hi all, I'm a new user to Affinity Designer and have been trying it out. In general I find the 1.5 update to be most interesting, especially with the addition of features like Symbols. I found a problem while exporting that I'm not sure if it should be considered a bug or not. I tried to pixelate a text, and make an artwork out of it. However on export, it becomes intensively smoothened out and blurry, in all resampling modes except Nearest Neighbour. Please open the images to a see their full resolution. Nearest Neighbour: Bilinear: I could export it with Nearest Neighbour, but that means all my other artwork in the image wouldn't get properly antialiased. After a lot of trial and error, I figured it's a problem with transparency, and indeed if I group it with a white background and then rasterise it, I get the expected result. However that workaround is limited, since many times I do want it to be transparent. For case-control I tried the same thing in Illustrator, and indeed the export has no problems replicating what I see in the software, while being transparent: So in the end, I would guess this extreme blurring is not natural. It's either a user error (please feel free to educate me on it), or it's a bug / something to be improved in the future? P.S. It's worth noting that illustrator has a number of helpful options when rasterising, that I expected to have control over in Designer as well. Such as the dpi to be rasterised in, the resampling method (Tinted for Typography can be useful in such cases) etc. I know Designer is still young, so consider it a feature request :)
  14. I would really like to see more fonts included, but since they are limited... Can I import a better selection of fonts? If yes, what is compatable? What font group(s) product is best? How do I import and use them? Thank you, Scott
  15. Hello, Where can i de-activate the text underdline on my document in AFdesigner on MAC? Thanks for your help.
  16. Hi, Just purchasing the software, i really like it. but unfortunately i faced this issue, after exporting to psd or eps files all texts got rasterize!! anyone can help with that, anyway to export it without any rasterize layers?. thanks. Rashad
  17. Is there any way in AFphoto or Designer to distort vectorial text to give it geometrical surface projection like on a cylindrical product pack shape? all this without converting layer to pixel of course.
  18. Disappointed that I do not have the ability to copy text onto the clipboard and then paste it into Affinity Windows via the standard paste command, Ctrl-V.
  19. Hello, I saw few threads with the same question, but there were no answers since 2015 year. So now, when Windows version is available, is it possible to export Affinity Designer project as fully editable (including text layers) PSD file? I'm really struggling with it. Maybe there are other solutions how to avoid this issue?
  20. A few days back I was using Affinity Designer (Windows), designing a logo and modifying a pre-existing font to suit my needs when it hit me. I wanted to design my own font/fonts! I searched the web to find a program that might be good for this, but all the programs on the market didn't look too amazing. The interfaces looked clumsy, unappealing and even though I am sure that they are good, I felt as if they were limited and always needed a separate program to complement them for their lack in one area or another. In most of the videos and tutorials I watched, people tended to use Adobe Illustrator to make the letters and then import the paths into the font editor. So I thought to myself; "What if Affinity Designer would have a font editor built into it, or a stand-alone software that would have the amazing interface of Affinity Designer and its ease of use?". So my suggestion is, that it would be AMAZING to have/buy an extension for Affinity Designer to be able to edit and export fonts! I do know that it is not "just" programming an extension/add-on of that sort to Affinity, but I can't imagine it being too difficult either. I mean you have all the tools that are needed for the job and the extra "specific" tools for font editing could perhaps fit under a new persona in the upper left? A font persona. That would make Affinity even more of a killer software! It would be nice if you guys considered adding this. I mean I really like Affinity Designer and I will most likely buy it on release, but I would also love to buy a font editor from you since I know that you would make it easy and fun to work with!
  21. Before exploring some of the more imaginative parts of Affinity for Windows, I thought I'd play experiment with an existing WORD file and base my research on results from other software (such as InDesign and CorelDraw). So far I can't find how to: import a WORD file for editing flow text to another frame wrap text around an image create additional pages IF: it's all there in a tutorial I apologise - and could I have a link please? ELSE: can anybody help? In the (extensive) search process so far, I have to say that the app has some awesome features - and should really benefit from the Beta testing
  22. I've noticed an counter-intuitive result when editing text in Affinity. If I highlight a section of text, then type over it, I expect the resulting text to maintain the styles of the previously highlighted text. However in Affinity, only the first typed character keeps the style, the following characters use the styles of the text AFTER the insertion point. Example: I type two lines of text. I make the first line bold I highlight the whole first line (triple click) I type to replace this line with new text. The resulting text has a bold first character, but regular thickness for the rest. I'm not sure if this is by design, but it's really annoying!
  23. There are issues with text styles that may (or may not) warrant looking into. Several attributes (paragraph spacing, font sizes, font styles, etc) do not remain once they've been set. Recreate the issue by creating several new styles, and apply them to a paragraph. Once applied, return to the style style panel(s) to alter the settings. You may (or may not) see that your values previously set have changed dramatically, without user input. Am using version 1.5.0.29 (RC5).
  24. Most of the time (not all of the time, difficult to tell when it will strike) the "Space After Paragraph" setting in the Paragraph panel sets itself to 12pt rather than a default value, regardless of the font size. This is based on a fresh installation of RC2 on Windows 10 Pro; it's effectively happening on the first document I've produced with this installation of AD and I haven't changed any of the default settings. If there's any other details you need, let me know and I'll try to provide them.
  25. Hi! I find some features with text layers. When importing PSD file (created in photoshop) on some zoom levels text is sliced and haven't transform borders. After editing text everything will ok.
