  1. Affinity Photo brings many welcome changes in how we work with text, and I'm enjoying learning the app. I found a minor issue that could be improved. While it's nice that I can enter some text then grab the text size box and have highlighted text immediately jump to show us what the new size will look like in our image, with each point size causing the text to resize itself immediately, I noticed that, while hitting the up or down arrow inside resize box changes the number up or down for us (very convenient if we want to bump size up just a little), it doesn't preview this size for us with each arrow press up or down, but only when we hit enter To recreate, enter some text in a text frame, highlight the text, and then click into the size selector inside the Text palette. We can increase or decrease the text point size with the keyboard arrow keys, but we cannot see the size in action until we hit return. It seems that since the intention of the programmers is to let us see the text easily if we use the pull-down menu with the mouse, we should also have the new size be previewed when using the arrow keys to select text size. Thanks for considering my request!
  2. This is a nightmare. PDF export just mangles all the text - well not all of it, just most of it. Randomly it leaves bits ok even with exactly the same font, styles, colours, weights, and the same master objects applied - you can see in the screenshots one spread in the doc is ok and one is not (most aren;t) . Some headings are ok but body text is mashed. There's no logic to this, nothing consistent about why and how it fails. Publisher came out just in time for me to start these two jobs with a hard print deadline. After 2 - 3 days of arsing about trying to fix this problem after setting 120 pages, I thought I'd finally solved this by stopping using my FontBase font manager, removing all the Montserrat font versions and reinstalling them to system fonts and trying again for the upteenth time. So I started the other doc. But it's back again. The problem is, every time I do this reinstalling fonts process, the document seems to interpret the fonts as new fonts, substituting the old, then I have to go through and set everything again. Like hundreds of Latin names in italic in the body copy I will have to go through and manually do again and again, every time it happens. And many more issues besides will need to be addressed again. This is a real problem. I see someone else has it to - I commented on that thread days back but there's no response on there. This is Windows 10 Pro, Montserrat (Google font) - marked as fully embeddable. I tried turning off the subset option on exports dozens of times and it makes no difference. It's extended this job into days more than it should have been. I really like what you're trying to do with this suite of software but please please please get this sorted - people are trying to produce pro documents for print but we're falling at the last hurdle. It's pretty crashy too but the recovery so far has been reasonably good. Plenty of other niggles with things but the PDF export thing really really needs sorting though. Please can somebody look into this urgently?
  3. I have some text that I snapped to an isometric grid. Now I want to make that text horizontal again. How do I do that? I can't seem to get it off the isometric grid even if I create a flat grid. Win 7, Aff Designer 1.8.5.703
  4. Some time ago I presented a formula to plug into Equations to warp text along a wavy baseline. I promised to create a macro to perform this, but never got round to it. Well here is that macro and a library containing it. Wavy Text.afmacro Wavy Text.afmacros The transformation is just a sine/cosine curve: y=y-(h*a/3)*(b*sin(360*x/w/c)+(1-b)*cos(360*x/w/c)) The a parameter determines the amplitude. The default is a=0.5, which creates a wave that reaches about half way to the top and bottom of the layer. The b parameter shifts the position of te wave along the horizontal axis. The c parameter affects the wavelength. Reducing c gives more waves along the x-axis. If you start with a text layer such as: and apply the macro with the default parameters, you get: The macro is designed to operate on a text object on a background. It needs the background to give it room. It begins by rasterizing the text to a pixel layer. It uses the height and width of the background layer to determine the amplitude and wavelength, not the height and width of the text itself. To use this, I would suggest creating a new document of a size to hold the text, then warp it, then place or copy it into the target document with an appropriate blending mode. John
  5. Hey all. I'm using Affinity Designer beta 1.9.0.11 - am I correct in only being able to find the Text Frame Panel by clicking the button in the Context Toolbar when I have a Path Text object selected? It seems to be a proper dockable panel, shouldn't it be in the VIEW > STUDIO menu list? I can't even locate the panel in App store version 1.86. ...It's late here, maybe I need sleep... At the very least I would think that it should be in the Context Toolbar when a Text Frame is active? The Panel I am referring to is attached. Thanks for any insight. 🙂
  6. Really need some help & i know its something simple i am not doing or have turned off. I cant seem to insert art into my text - I havent had any issues for over a year with this so im guessing i have turned something off? Your help would be greatly appreciated
  7. Hi, I've had Affinity for about a week now and as an /affordable/ piece of software, I am loving it. Also bringing back memories of work experience several years ago at Wilford industrial estate... ;) but anyway, on to the problem.... Having a little bit of trouble with the full justify option - it just doesn't do anything attractive for my layout at all. Expecting it to space out my words nicely stretching across the full width of the frame and instead it's just adding a massive gap between the last two in the text frame! Not sure if there are settings to correct this or if the tool simply doesn't work as expected. Can anyone clarify what's going on with this one? Thanks.
  8. I was wondering if it was possible to warp text in Designer. I attached an image with what I am trying to accomplish.
  9. Hello, i have a question how to CONVERT TEXT IN to SHAPE affinity designer? In Ai is so easy but i am not sure how i can do that in Affinity designer? Here is a link you can see what i mean. I am not sure how i can do that in Affinity Designer?
  10. Help! I created a logo using mismatched font sizes for a custom upper/lower case mix. I converted the text to curves, then manipulated using stroke weight to even out the marks. I was working away on white background and client has approved (and loves) this design based on seeing jpgs. I need to reproduce it as clean vector art and now discovered I'm in a mess of trouble. When I turn the stroke to "none"/invisible, the text bloats out. I'm stuck, any pointers or tips? Many thanks. -Karen
  11. First of all, thank you for making this amazing product. I almost instantly decided to leave Adobe's products after I used Affinity Designer. One thing I used to find annoying with Photoshop/Illustrator is lack of support for writing text in RTL languages like Arabic or Farsi. It is available only in ME editions which are hard to find and sometimes outdated. Right now, I couldn't get RTL text writing in Arabic to work with Affinity Designer, and it would be great if this feature was implemented. Thanks,
  12. I'm a new user for Affinity Photo. I've bought it today and started using it. My problem is that I can't find the text tool on the left bar along side with the brush and other tools. I found all the text editing dialogue but I can't type to begin with.
  13. One of the features in page plus was the ability to increase or reduce the size of the text so as to fill a frame completely. Is that available in publisher?
  14. Is it possible to export affinity designer to PSD file with editable text? If yes, how?
  15. Hi! I flattened and rasterized my text box and now cannot go back in to edit my text (I'm a true novice). Is there a way to undo? I've gone back into my history but it did not save anything from before the document was flattened. I've seen other posts that I just need to undo the rasterize, but I don't know how to do that. Thanks.
  16. Hi i need your help. What is the reason that text layer getting to a pixel layer and are not changeable. I don't change the settings of the textlayer or raster this layer. But surpise, the textlayer change to a pixellayer. What i doing wrong? Thx a lot
  17. When I click the 'Character' or 'Paragraph' button on the Context Toolbar in Affinity Designer 1.6.1, the corresponding panel is not displayed. The same is true if I select 'Text' > 'Show Character' or 'Text' > 'Show Paragraph' from the menu (or press ⌘T). 'Text' > 'Show Text Styles' and 'Text' > 'Show Glyph Browser' do not seem to do anything either. However, 'Text' > 'Show Typography' does work.
  18. I work a lot with Japanese texts and this would be my request feature number 1. When you are writing in horizontal, you can change your selected text to vertical orientation. (When I tried , that bar didn't flip from horizontal to vertical.) Like this example: (カレー). (This is wrong writing) x (This is acceptable) カ カ レ レ x ー > | That also works inside Text Editor for mac, when you go to Layout Orientation > Vertical. My other suggestion is to add something like World and iPages that is called > Phonetic Guide Text. (It's used for both Japanese and Chinese called Furigana or Ruby) Japanese Indesign has all these features for writing in Japanese too. Arigatou!
  19. The last words and letters disappear in the left side of my text field, any one can help me with the correct set up for the text field to prevent this happening?
  20. Hey has anyone noticed any problems using text in AD? It is very slow for me. If I use a text frame, after less than a paragraph it starts to slow down -- I type in text and it takes a moment or two to show up on the screen. It gets slower as I integrate more text. Slightly worse with artistic text. I've tried changing the render settings (paths only, pixel, etc.) but no difference. I don't have many fonts installed, it's a fairly new OS install (Win 10) and I've only installed a few additional fonts. This is not much text (I realize more text belongs in Publisher) basically a few paragraphs that might appear on any flyer or poster. Strange: I have a dual-screen setup -- when I use the second screen for the dockers (I would like to have this setup) the problem is even worse. Any ideas are much appreciated!
  21. The functionality to switch between artistic and frame text would be a great addition to Designer... Illustrator's implementation of doing this (double click a specific node on a text object, or right click > convert to...) is a perfect example on how it should be handled. Here's a thread with a whole bunch of other people wanting this as well.
  22. I can’t make both the callout shape and its text visible. This is what I have done:– 1 Selected Callout Rounded Rectangle Tool. 2 In the context bar, set stroke colour and size. 3 Drew the callout and it appeared on its own layer with nodes, the layer's icon showing the shape. 4 Changed the fill to transparent. 5 Selected the Frame Text Tool (not Artistic Text Tool). 6 Clicked in the shape. The cursor appeared and the name of the layer changed to Shape Text. 7 In the context bar, set font colour and size. 8 While entering text, the shape disappeared, the layer's icon changed to that of the text tool. 9 On moving the cursor, the outline of the shape reappeared with nodes (not the shape itself). 10 On clicking out of the shape, the text remained visible, the shape remained invisible, the outline of the shape disappeared. If I make the layer invisible and then visible again, its name becomes the text I have entered. I was hoping the text AND the shape would be visible, the text within the shape. Reselecting the shape shows its outline with nodes and the context bar refers to the text not the shape. Is this a bug? Or have I missed something blindingly obvious? Or is it a bug that is selective of its victims? Or what? Please help! NB I have achieved success with a work-around: entering artistic text on one layer and the shape on another, then aligning them – I can’t find this described in the Help pages.
  23. Hi I’m trying to print out an image which has been put together with various elements and text tool. I’ve done lots of others in this way but for some reason this particular one keeps printing out with a line through the same 2 words despite it not appearing on the screen....HELP PLEASE!!
  24. I have "Check Spelling While Typing" selected, but words are not being underlined. If I try to execute "Check Spelling" I get an error that there's no dictionary installed for Canadian English. I'm happy to use British English, but not sure where I select this. The folder "C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Common\1.0\Dictionaries" is empty - this can't be right can it? Thanks Neel
