  1. Dragging symbols from the symbols pallete onto the canvas does not work. When a symbol is created, it appears in the palette but cannot be dragged from the palette to the drawing. Just nothing happens and the symbol is not placed on the canvas. AD 1.8.3.641, Windows 10
  2. Dinosaur Assets A set of multi-layer vector symbols and textures based on dinosaur skin Cover Image 290 x175mm 300dpi all vector Built from 15 multi-layer symbols all vector based to be used for brush base textures | assets | styles | scalable grunge tiled patterns
  3. I’ve just discovered symbols in Designer. I’m trying to set up a vector drawing to use as a background. I thought I’d be able to insert the symbol and then duplicate all the way across and down, but the duplicated symbols don’t update when I change the source symbol. Only the symbols that I insert reflect any changes I make to the source. Also, is there a way to set a default size for a symbol when inserting it? My symbol source is 200x200, but when I insert it, it is smaller and not square. I need 100 of these to fill the space, and it’s getting tedious inserting one by one and resizing, pius moving. I know I can export it and use it as a fill, but I plan to have a handful of coordinating colorways, so I thought symbols would be a more efficient choice.
  4. I would love to be able to edit the text content of a symbol but not the style of the text. Would be useful for buttons with different calls-to-action as well as UI where a bunch of repeated content like user profiles needs unique titles.
  5. Hello, I suggest to make very useful function. Replacement symbols. At the moment there are symbols, but there is not much sense from them. I suggest making the symbol replacement function on a click. This will give a huge advantage to this function, because there are 100 symbols on the page, of which 20 need to be changed. It is much easier to select them and click on the new symbol from the symbol panel, than doing something else. How will this work? Like sketch. We create two different symbols. Output to the artboard of any of them - for a replacement click on the second character from the symbol panel. The first changes to the second remaining with the same size. It at times will speed up the creation of interfaces with small details and make your functionality more logical. Sincerely, Anton Gavva UI / UX Designer.
  6. I work a lot with documets containing symbols. I have a master document which I copy and work with that. Never had any issue with my workflow. Now, with the update, when I drag an asset to the workspace, it simply reacts different in that way that it does not stay put when I place it where it should be. With a lots of tries I found that, as long as I keep it selected to place, the size of the asset starts to decrease horizontal and increase vertical. You see it on as no. 1 on the attachment. If I kind of "throw" it onto the workspace of the document (depending how fast I release the mouse button) it looks like no. 2 If I place the asset outside an artboard, it behaves normal and I can manipulate it to my needs. If it is a new document or one without symbols the use of the assets is normal. No distortion. I attached a screenshot file and a sample doc where I deleted all information which would share my bread and butter. But the error can still be recreated from my side. Any help is greatly appreciated. Are you using the latest release version? - Yes 1.9.1.979 - the one from this last Thursday (here's how to check) Can you reproduce it? Yes, constantly. (if you cannot then we may struggle to also, making it even harder to fix) Does it happen for a new document? If not do you have a document you can share that shows the problem? Hm, not with a plain document. See my intro If you cannot provide a sample document then please give an accurate description of the problem for example it should include most of the following: What is your operating system and version (Windows 10, OSX Mojave, iOS 12 etc)? - Windows 10pro - 64bit What happened for you (and what you expected to happen) - See my intro Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did). - See my intro Screenshots (very handy) or a screen capture/video.- Attached Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers. - No, nothing of these Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware) - Yes it worked before this update and no, I have not changed anything to the files. Sample_doc.afdesign
  7. When I create a subtract compound inside an existing symbol it’s not being propagated on other instances of the symbol.
  8. 1. make symbol 2. make symbol float with text 3. copy text with symbol 4. create new document 5. try to paste it to new document 6. publisher will crush
  9. MacOS: 10.15.6 Affinity Designer: 1.8.4 I've noticed there are a few bug reports around symbols and I'm not sure if this is related or new but hopefully it'll help debug. I've reproduced a minimal example. I've created two artboards and added a line using the Pixel Persona and a rect using Designer Persona to artboard 1 and made them both symbols. I then added a copy of the symbol to artboard 2. Modifying properties of the rect work as expected. Modifying properties of the line seem do not update as expected. Rotating the line seems to complete break and forces the line to disappear from artboard 2. The preview image however does show that the line has been rotated. I'm not sure if this is supposed to work this way or not with symbols, but when the (Symbol) layer is selected (not the Rectangle or Pixel layer) and the object is rotated, it only rotates the instance of the selected element and none of the other symbols are adjusted. Thanks for the support, this one is causing some headaches in a project I'm revisiting.
  10. Is Publisher going up against newish tools like Sketch and Adobe XD? In many ways those tools are layout software so it seems like similar to what Publisher would do. I have spent far less time with Publisher then I have with the other Affinity tools so it's hard for me to know how much it competes with prototyping. What I have seen so far it looks like it is more of a competitor to ID and Quark.
  11. It seems that dragging a symbol into a clone of itself is possible when it's a nested symbol (a symbol inside a symbol). This leads to a crash Drag the child symbol of one of the symbols to be the sibling (drop it underneath) of the parent's clone's child (the clone of itself in the other parent). Crash Bug 2.afdesign
  12. Dear , How can I save symbols i created on one page to use in olther page.
  13. I see that when I create a Symbol in Publisher through the Designer persona, I can edit that symbol later straight in Publisher, without switching to Designer persona. I was wondering, if the symbols are used in a Publisher template for example, then someone, who doesn't have Designer at all, can see / edit those symbols. Or will they be detached?
  14. 1) Create new Publisher document with text flow 2) Switch to Designer persona 3) Create symbol 4) Insert symbol into text flow via copy & paste 5) Switch back to Publisher persona 6) Adjust symbol position using the pinning panel 7) Copy and paste symbol to different places in the text flow RESULT: Every pasted symbol is converted to a "Group" object and looses symbol functionality EXPECTED RESULT: For symbols that are copied and pasted to maintain symbol status, even when copied and pasted in Publisher persona
  15. IPad designer and photo. I created some patterns to use in my designs, for the printer I want tocopherol it into a A4 document. So I copy the artboard that holds the pattern and copy it into a new document, when I paste it the program crashes. If I save it to the cloud and open it in photo same thing happens, direct crash. even when I open it on the computer in Affinity photo, it has real difficulties with the file. Anybody any idea henk
  16. I'm having problems with symbols in a design; all but one of the copies is updating. I have created a template with several artboards for different versions of social media images. Part of the design has the text 'WEEK XX'. I have created a symbol and copied across four of the artboards. That's fine, they all update in unison. I have created a fifth copy, which I needed to change to title case and add a drop shadow. I disabled sync to do this and made the changes. Even after enabling sync again, it doesn't update with the rest. The symbol attributes show Unlinked Transform/Constraints but the text itself shows Unlinked Layer Effects, Text, Text Frame. I have tried different variations as it was initially the reverse; having spawned four copies from the title case version, the four refused to update. Can anyone shed some light on this?
  17. I moved these quick symbols from PagePlus X9 into Publisher as they are quite useful for general documents. Here are the assets. Hopefully Serif won't mind me sharing them as they are so useful. Quick Symbols.pdf PagePlus X9 Quick Symbols.afassets
  18. Hello, I have the same problem. I cannot reproduce the tutorial here : https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/tutorials/designer/desktop/video/301628203 Here a screenshot. Thank you and best regards
  19. Symbol instances populated along text path if they are center aligned do not keep their position after saving and reopening the document. Do as the following: 1. Create a path and convert it to a text path. 2. Create any shape and convert it to a symbol in the Designer Persona. Then go back to the Publisher Persona. 3. Copy symbol instance to the clipboard, then paste it several times on a text path. 4. Assign Center Alignment to this path. 5. Save and close this document. 6. Reopen this document. 7. Watch how your symbol instances on a text path got shifted.
  20. I have a problem where creating and updating symbols is broken in one part of my file but not other parts. I think there is some sort of corruption or incorrect hidden setting inside the hierarchy, so that creating and updating symbols works in one part of the hierarchy, and doesn't work in another. When it doesn't work it looks like it creates a symbol but the symbols aren't acting as if they are connected. For more context, the part of the hierarchy where the problem is occurring used to be underneath a symbol I've included the problem bits of my file here, BrokenSymbols_Start.afdesign is before they become symbols and BrokenSymbols_Finish.afdesign is after they are symbols and duplicated BrokenSymbols_Start.afdesign BrokenSymbols_Finish.afdesign I am using Designer 1.7.1.404 I also have a separate question, when you have a symbol underneath a symbol, what is the expected behavior when you update an instance of the nested symbol? Is the nested symbol supposed to update when an instance of it elsewhere is changed?
  21. Problem Even the most organized designers may find themselves needing to redefine a number of elements as symbols. After all, there are deadlines, the all too easy to use Copy / Paste / Duplicate options and other scenarios that keep us from relying on symbols. But what is worst is that to go back and reorganize these elements as symbols can also be daunting, because of large number of nested layers and each with their own unique locations. Solution Introduce a function that takes any element and replaces it with a symbol in its place. The function intelligently uses the same X-Y coordinates of the object its replacing to position itself automatically. Result With a Symbol Replace option, a user can Create their Symbol, and then go anywhere in the document and replace those items that should be that symbol. • No need to drag the symbol into the canvas. • No need to position that symbol into the correct location manually. • No need to nest that symbol in the layers studio. Thank you and pls consider !
  22. I really like the responsiveness and immediate feedback about symbols in Affinity. But managing them is not as easy as it could be, much of that happens because of the lack of some functionalities in Symbols panel. What I'd love to see in an updated version of the Symbols Panel: List view Custom categories to groups symbols Search bar Ordering options: manual, alphabetical Easier renaming: select one, double click the name, and when finished, press tab to rename the next one Features to manage symbols in the artboard: Contextual menu to replace a selected instance of a symbol in the artboard by another one on the library Option to, when cmd+click on the symbol, do not select it's layers, but the whole symbol. (This is useful when you want to select a symbol inside a complex hierarchy of groups and layers, but do not want to edit the symbol.) Other advanced features Ability to nest symbols inside symbols Ability to override nested symbols Well, this is what I'd like to see regarding symbols. I hope that this adds something to the discussion about the roadmap.
  23. This has been happening a lot with symbols - I've found an old thread that might be related (here). 1. I create a symbol so that I can place it on multiple artboards and test different compositions. I never turn symbol syncing off or detaching any instances. 2. Then I start changing the colors of certain elements inside the symbol. 3. At some point, a few of the symbol instances will stop syncing the color for some of their elements. All other properties of the very shapes sync just fine however. For other instances everything syncs, even the color! In the following video sample I use the 1st instance to rotate an element (everything is one symbol) and change it's color. The 2nd instance updates fine on both properties. For the 3rd (buggy) instance only the rotation updates (and not the color). Things started going awry after I duplicated the 3 colored elements inside the symbol, hid the originals and assigned global colors to them. I'd be happy to email a sample corrupt file for debugging purposes. cheers! bug.mov
  24. When I try to copy a layer that has a symbol on it to another file, the app will crash and exit as soon add I press paste. The only way around to be able to copy paste the layer will be to turn off the symbol, and then copy paste the layer to the other file and then make the symbol there.
  25. The Symbols panel option seems to be missing in ver. 1.7.0.249. Or is this panel moved from the Studio manager? Testing on Mac running High Sierra. OleR
