  1. How can I name a swatch without Affinity Designer crashing? So far it crashes each time, and only two of the swatches show up on the list. I'm working on Mac Sierra.
  2. One of the great features in Affinity is the huge choice of palette styles. I like to select my colours from swatches which I find very quick and then use the colour wheel for fine tuning if needed. However I found myself getting rather irritated by having to keep switching between Greys and Colours in the swatches palette. In the end I solved this by building my own combo Greys and Colours palette which is saved to an afpalette file. You can see it here. Which leads me to my question - is there some special reason that I am missing for segregating these two swatch palettes? Which leads in turn to a request - is there any chance of creating much wider gradient palettes? They really are not very easy to read in their present form. I think it would be a huge help. As ever thank you all for your exceptional standard of support. It really is the best.
  3. Hi, I see the following improvement to the swatches workflow: A.) drag & drop from swatches panel into the color field of the gradient overlay B.) drag & drop from swatches panel into the color field of the color overlay Why this could speed up the workflow: To add or change the color in a layer fx it is necessary to open the "layer fx window" and choose the function "color overlay". Ok. If users have their swatches panel already open, like me, (with for example: document palette) I could easily pick the desired swatch and drag it into the the color field if drag n drop would be possible. At the moment I have to click on the color field and "hope" that the popped-up color window is presenting me already the desired color, if not: I have to do some more "mouse work" like choosing swatches and then choosing document palette to get to the desired color. But see this request more as cosmetic then minor or even major. Cheers, Stefan.
  4. Hi, it would save a lot of time if the layer fx "gradient overlay" AND outline ("Umrandung" - see 3rd attached image) would have the same functionality as "color overlay": the ability of choosing swatches - gradients in this case. For a vice versa functionality - see also: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/25422-how-to-get-a-color-gradient-from-layer-fx-into-swatchesgradients/ Thanks for taking your time and thinking about it, Stefan.
  5. As I've been working in Designer recently, it's a bit frustrating when adding a swatch from the Pantone set the default has the name of the next unused global color (e.g. "Global Color 7") instead of the name of the Pantone swatch. It would be great if all swatches, even if global, contained the name of their value so I didn't have to enter them manually (including CMYK and RGB swatches).
  6. I have used the Create Palette From Document command to fill my own palette with the allready used colors. Now I played around and added some more colors, but I don't need all of them at last. Is there a way to delete the unused colors of the palette automatically? It should be cause of automatic creation is possible :) Also, I can't edit a saved palette color. I can rename it and delete the fill but I can't change the color. Is this correct or does the beta jokes on me? I think it is important to change an existing color -> which also changes the color of all objects that used this fill.
  7. Hey got a quick question: Is there a way to create custom swatches especially pattern swatches?
  8. Hey there. I've been using the Mac version of Affinity Designer for a while and feel pretty comfortable with basic things. One thing I've noticed that's handy is the ability to choose recent colors under the swatches tab. I'm also using the Beta for Windows on my SP3 and so far - on first beta and now the updated beta - my recent colors aren't populating. Is this a bug that needs to be worked out? Or a setting that I need to fix? Just wondering. Thank you!
  9. Guys, Has anyone experienced a crash when using the swatches palette? I have had it occur twice, once when I tried to change the fill of an object and the second time when I tried to change the stroke colour of the same object. I had changed from greys to colour and selected a colour from the palette and nothing happened so upon a second click, the crash occurred. Just tried it again so I could post the screen shot with the error message but, in the mean time I had upgraded to v1.5.0.5 and it doesn't do it anymore. Must have been reported before and now fixed. If that's the case, well done Serif.
  10. Every version of Affinity Designer Beta has had a lot of lag when scrolling through any swatches, though it is still usable. This happens regardless of the file that I am working on, and it has persisted through reisntallations and updates to Affinity Designer Beta. I am currently on the most recent beta (7/7/16). PC specs: CPU: Intel i7 5820k@4.5 Ghz GPU: GTX Geforce 950 RAM: 32 GB DDR4 SSD: Samsung 950 Pro installation drive (where Windows and my applications, including Designer, are installed) HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7200 RPM storage drive (where the files I am working on are stored) I don't think it is my PC causing the issue.
  11. Great to see that you have a windows version in the making, It means i can use it at work, as our company is mainly PC based. Although i prefer the Mac environment. Anyway... I have noticed on the Win beta version that every time i open the program the Swatch pallette defaults to small even though i have previously changed it to large. This also happens with a saved file. It does not recall my swatch size prefs and reverts to the default small. Win 10 64bit "125% - resolution 3840 x 2160
  12. If the swatches tab is visible with colours, switching documents lags signficantly.
  13. Update Dropdown What I did was think about components and what parts belong to what. And for this model to be clear from the UI / UX perspective, it means that the other colour options should be separated into their own panels due to their unique attributes. In my experience, I would recommend removing the colour wheel--it adds no functionality that the sliders can't provide and adds a level of complexity to maintain in the long run. I can't keep working for free, so, this is it from me. ----- Previous -----
  14. Hi AD team, love the product - terrific! Here's my problem: I'm switching from adobe illustrator and would like to take the color swatches with me. CS5 even has an export option to export a given swatch to .ase which I could then import in AD. However, the gradient swatches ('Brights') are not exported with the gradient, just as base colors. Can anyone recommend how to move my AI gradient swatches out of AI into AD? Thanks so much!
  15. Currently you can only search swatches when in the main swatches panel. If you try to edit a global colour, and choose swatches from the dropdown, you have to scroll through all the colours and pick it manually by eye/hover. I'd like the search bar to also appear in the secondary swatches panel. Thanks.
  16. Hello folks, just bought Affinity today and I got lost in playing around with the insane zoom levels it offers. I create worlds within worlds and it was just a mind baffling experience. LOOOOOOVE IT!!! Of course, Affinity is...before anything else...a GREAT start. It makes working on vector graphics so much easier. Most of the possible enhancements were mentioned. A quick search through the forums didn't mention one thing though...and please correct me if I am wrong, I will delete this thread then. What about Cloud Sync? I know you can save files in iCloud. But I don't think it syncs things like preferences, settings, custom swatches etc. etc. As much as I work from home, I am also constantly on the road. Picking up from where I left off at home with the same settings etc. would be lovely. Any suggestions? Kind regards, madeinxyz
  17. I somehow managed to create a new color palette and rename it. Now I want to place my recent colors into it. IDEALLY I wanted to be able to select color swatches I was using and create a palette from those selections. There may be a way to do that. I don't know. However now I'm looking at a screen where my recent colors are there and I am going to assume there's a way to easily place those colors into my new, empty, palette. How is that done? Thank you in advance.
  18. Hello, It is very rare that I feel AD is missing a feature, it is already such a fleshed out and mature creation software. But, recently I've been desiring a way to merge palettes, or import a palette from a document into the current palette. Personally, I use Seiken Densetsu 3 palettes when I do pixel art (they are gorgeous, with beautiful deep purples as blacks etc). I am not colour-blind, but don't have the innate ability to find nice matching colours. Anyhow, when doing this type of work, you end up creating palettes from many images you can find on google. You are then stuck, as I haven't found any way to merge the palettes it creates :/ There are more likely other ways to fix this "issue", that is why I prefer explaining my situation rather than forcing a pre-set solution on you. Anything that would allow creation of 1 palette from many images works for me. Thank you for reading this, and being so active with your community, <3 P.S. Just downloaded beta, will get back to you guys about the crashes I mentioned last weekend :) [Edit] I guess importing all the images and merging them in a document works, [facepalm]. Ok going to sleep now...
  19. Hello, I am trying to figure out how to find the pantone # swatch used within gradients, there seems to be no way to get this kind of feedback anywhere… while you can isolate colors added to an object with a gradient, where is the pantone # info located to find later on once added in? Also noticed when adding a spot color swatch to a gradient, it's very hard to find a specific spot color quickly within the gradient palette without a list view showing the pantone numbers. Thank you
  20. There doesn't seem to be a nice way to manage swatches after you created them in a custom Document Palette, e.g. select multiple swatches and then delete them. Any ideas?
  21. Recently used colors has one problem. When selecting a previously used color, adjusting that selection (from the color wheel) completely removes the previous color in Recents. Breaking exploration of ideas. This compounds the Eye Dropper color well queue doubling travel time to ui, as well. So, if I select an object, click a previous used color in Recents, then adjust the color for variance, or testing, the old Recent color swatch completely gets replaced. If I want to adjust another part of a design with the original Recent swatch, I then have to select the Eye Dropper, select the color, go back to the color well, and click on it (/cry). A workaround is to deselect the object after color selection from Recents, then reselect [the object] to create a new Recent color item. Ideally, Recents would record a new square, versus replacing the selected Recent color swatch without having to deselect the object.
  22. Just wanted to know if gradient swatches will be added in the future?
  23. The standard colour patches have disappeared from my swatches palette. The one normally found in the top three lines of the dropdown menu. I have tried a re-installation but this has not cured the problem. Can anyone tell me how to recover these? I am really lost without them. Affinity Photo 1.2.1.267B7 OS X Yosemeite 10.10.3 Thank you David Mac
