  1. It was recently suggested that I create s single post showing all of the free resources we have made available via https://affinity.graphics as some were never announced here and some folks still don't know about Affinity.Graphics for finding resources. We just updated the site a bit and released 2 more free resources there, so stop by and check things out. You can find DSV's offerings directly at our Affinity.Graphics User Page. Attached are promo images of everything we've released to date. Enjoy! 2. Hello: I've been using Affinity photo off-and-on for about a year now and still can't figure out how to place the black/white swatches on the front working space. I have to open the swatches panel to get to the black/white swatches. I'd like to add them to the tools panel so I can easily access them when using masks, etc. I recall seeing a screen shot of an Affinity Photo user's setup that had the b/w swatches on the working space so I know it can be done! Help! Also lest I forget! Please consider a "dissolve" blend mode! I use that mode all the time (ps cc) to help with color editing. It is divine for cleaning errant color blobs. Too, is there a way to import PS CC LUTS to AP? I am a hobbyist and have been using the GIMP, PS (since cs6) and now Affinity Photo for just about ten years now; I really like Affinity Photo and encourage everyone I can to give it a shot. I've worked with PSP, Krita and Inkscape; also Raw Therapee and Dark Table but mostly to explore and better understand images, lights/darks and color. Thanks much Silver711
  3. Would it be possible to append the swatches and brushes palettes akin to the assets category? This would allow sub-grouping and make organisation much cleaner when dealing with large assets. Also including an 'add from selection' fill/line for swatches would be welcome. This could possibly facilitate sub-categories being auto-created and named if the selected swatches are already grouped (see Swatches2.png). My lo-tech solution (adding extra No-fill swatches in Swatches1.png) to get logical colour-grouping is time consuming and i often resort to just creating a specific layer for swatches, then having to cut/paste into a new document if i want that same palette again.
  4. I'm using Affinity Designer 1.8.3.641 and noticed a small issue with swatches showing as "selected. The swatch panel can be in fill or stroke mode depending on which icon is in the foreground. Switching between them doesn't show the selected swatch for a particular object's fill/stroke. Example: - I have an object with a black fill and white stroke. - If the swatch panel is in fill mode, the black swatch appears selected (white square around that swatch). - If I change the swatch panel to stroke mode, the black swatch it still selected. - To get it to show that the white swatch is selected I have to click off of the object, then click back onto it. This all has to occur while the swatch panel is in stroke mode.
  5. It would be very helpful to have the same swatches as one has in the main Swatch Panel appear in both the Text Frame swatch option and the Gradient Effect as a swatch panel. I realize that this is asking a lot but if possible it would help work flow.
  6. AP Color sliders can be changed to see the reference RGB Hex #. My question: Is there a way in Swatches Panel to type the known Hex values to add the color to the Swatches Palette? This is a very simple process in Procreate Swatches to add colors to the Swatches Palette. Type Hex number, click color and it's added, maximum 30 per Swatches Palette.
  7. I add a new photo AP. I go to Color, Swatches,, and Add Document Palette, nothing happens. Am I wrong to suggest the colors from the open photo would be added as swatches? If wrong, how can you obtain photo colors to add to swatches, other then color picker one by one.
  8. Is there a way to click on an object within your artwork and have the swatches palette show you which color is actively selected? I want to build out a colors list and then know which color I’m working with when I select an object I’ve added to my artwork. I use a collection of Montana spray paints and need to know which colors to buy after I’ve designed the artwork.
  9. If you right-click a swatch and make a copy, then rename the copy, you have two swatches of the same color. AFPUB does not respect their name differences. When you apply the second swatch to an object, and then come back to that object later, it will have reverted to the original swatch and name since the two swatches have the same HSL - the swatch becomes highlighted when you select an object - the wrong swatch. This is a bit problematic if you wish to, say, assign #one swatch to section one of the document and assign #two swatch to section two of the document. The idea would be to come back later and change the colors of section two via editing the second swatch (the copy). It seems that you have to make a slight HSL change so that the objects don't confuse AFPUB by having the same HSL values. Essentially, this means you have to create a new colour swatch for section two that is not a complete duplicate of swatch #1. Screen recording: two picture objects, a single color swatch is used on each. Copy that swatch to make a duplicate. Assign duplicate swatch to second item. Select first object - uses original swatch. Select second object - original swatch is highlighted. Swatch copy is ignored and not used since it is entirely a duplicate. I would prefer to have an object keep the same swatch that was assigned and not revert to another with the same settings. Swatch Reverts.mov
  10. It would be nice to delete multiple swatches at once by shift-clicking them and pressing delete. Right now I have to do it one by one and then be asked if I want to really delete the swatch. This is way too tedious.
  11. Hi Affinity Team, It would be great to have Global Colours available in Layer Effects. For example when adding outer glow, I often use the same colour as the object on which I am applying the effect (e.g: outer glow) but it doesn't automatically change with the colour of the object, neither does it change when I update the Global Colour which I selected to apply to the effect (e.g: outer glow). In fact selecting a Global Colour in the colour palettes of Layer Effects is not available. It's a big waste of time when I have to go back and manually change the colour of the glow (or outline, shadow, overlay, gradient...) because I decided to change a Global Colour.. Thanks !
  12. Small cosmetic item: The help system shows the Swatches Panel with two ICONS of traditionally-shaped painter's palettes - one for current color and another for current fill. Using 1.7.2 on Mac OSX 10.13.6. Instead of the traditionally-shaped palettes, there are two "strange" box-like icons. They function, but it took me a bit of close looking to finally realize that these had been substituted for the painter's palettes. I like the palette shapes much better than the square boxes. I suspect that this is a small cosmetic inconsistency with the program icons/help system.
  13. I have a large document and a number of swatches that I use. I have the "palette" set to the document I'm working on. The palette is large with some 40+ swatches (some of which I don't recognize as having used them). I would like to know how to force AFPUB to save the swatches I have used over time on the document. I keep running into a missing swatch (where one object stroke or fill has that color, and I'd like to copy that color, but that swatch is not shown in the list of swatches). This forces me to use the HSL codes to manually re-create the swatch. However, eventually, that or another swatch won't be in the list when I need it. I suspect user knowledge is the problem, not necessarily a bug.
  14. Following an AP tutorial I have created my own swatches. I use 5 colours palette that to my judgment correspond well to what i see in the original (template) image. If this is not a case, the 5 colour palette by AP is incorrect, I create a swatch again with a higher number of colors and make my selection to limit them to again 5. When color grading with 5 colours I add 5 colours from the swatch palette very carefully by ensuring that the Location value on color grading scale matches the Lightness (L) value of the color an indicated in a window for color picker. When I copy the colour palette from the swatch and apply it to my own image the result is different as regards tonality. Some additional adjustments are needed to match my image with the template. However, it is almost never the same. Is it what correct? Using swatches for color grading does not guarantee that the image that is edited will match the template and there might be differences?
  15. i have followed an AP tutorial on how to create swatches by: Create a palette from Image, Location: Application. Working on Mac with a Wacom tablet. I need them for color grading. I have created quite a few of them but not sure how I can show up in the swatch panel. The search tool does not shows them up. I can see some in a window (see enclosed screen shot) but when I try to search for them nothing happens.
  16. If an object from one document has a linked global color and we copy that object and then paste it into another document the global color should also come with it (or have the option to do so) and be added in the other document's swatches
  17. So I've been wondering when and if you guys are going to add the ability to convert an image into a swatch. I understand how to do repeat patterns in designer but as a Fashion Designer the ability to make an image then convert it to a swatch then use that swatch to fill my clothing designs would be a god send the amount of time alone I would save is beyond measure. It's one of the few features I feel are a MUST be added to your program.
  18. So not sure how this is not done right in Affinity's programs. Global Swatches, are only in document, not available in application swatch palettes! I work in a high volume, fast paced shop, we have a number of what we would call basic or default colors we use in designing, and then tweak them from there. I have always been able to set up a swatch book in Indesign and use that swatch in all my work as a base. While Affinity has that feature as an application swatch, the colors once applied to items do not not retain any connection to the item as they should so color can be adjusted once for all items in the document that use that swatch, this is only available as a Global Color and will only work in a Document Palette, which I would have to rebuild every time. So while I really like Publisher in a lot of ways this is a really crimp on my movement away from Adobe, and is right up there with no step and repeat function (power duplicate is not the same thing) and not opening Indesign files (I know that is more difficult, but Quark can do it, so it is possible). I am also at a loss as how to get all my prints from printing so dark, no color management settings seem to change anything and all my photos come out extremely dark, but only when printed in Affinity Publisher, any other program prints perfectly.
  19. A lot of users, myself included, often create custom brushes and assets to use with Affinity Apps. With the release of Affinity Publisher (especially with StudioLink) I find it quite tedious to install the newly created brushes and assets individually into every app since I do switch between them quite regularly and need all my tools available. It would be really nice that when you install/delete assets and brushes in any one of the Affinity apps that they are automatically loaded/available/updated in the other apps. Example scenario: As an illustrator, I often create new custom brushes for projects. If I created a custom raster brush in Photo, but then needed to switch to Designer for vector work, I'd need to open Photo, save the brush, open Designer and then load the new brush in the Pixel Persona. Then when I switch to Publisher for layout, I would need to switch to the Photo Persona via StudioLink and reload the brush there too if I wanted to do a few finishing touch-ups. If I then made a few small tweaks to the brush, perhaps some small improvements (such as tweaking the pressure curve for the size jitter), I would need to repeat the entire process all over again. The same goes for Assets, and more. It can quickly become very time consuming. It would be incredibly useful to have a universal folder where the brushes/assets are stored so that they automatically update across the board when you customise or add them. Obviously this wouldn't be applicable on iPad, but I think it would be incredibly innovative and useful on desktop, and a huge time saver in anyone's workflow. That way you'd only need to load, say, a raster brush once in Photo, and then automatically have it available in Designer's Pixel Persona and Publisher's Photo Persona. Same goes for vector brushes, assets, macros, swatches, styles, etc.
  20. I just came across a most perplexing limitation: I've created two document palettes, let's call them A and B On palette A I've created a swatch named ColourPink Then I went to palette B and also tried to create a swatch called ColourPink Affinity Designer tells me the swatch name is already in use so I can't use it again... Well... I guess that's technically true, but what's the point of having two separate palettes if they're not completely independent? My request is to make palettes completely independent so we can have multiple swatches with the names. Thanks!
  21. Ability to apply colour swatches to layer effects, such as the pictured Colour Overlay. Right now you can only use sliders and wheels on these. This is particular useful when used in conjunction with global colours. You can apply a global colour to a large number of layer effects, and change every single of them instance just by editing the global colour. I use this a lot in illustration, rather than paint any drawing in it's 'final colour', I have the brush set to black and the layer with a colour overlay effect attached to a global colour. If I later want to change the illustration colour I just edit the swatch. Thanks!
  22. I've searched around and while I see people asking about this, doesn't seem like there's any kind of formal request for this feature so here's one. Essentially it's what the title says, please add the ability to create, edit and apply global colour swatches in illustrations and designs done on the iPad. Global colours are a fundamental part of vector design and illustration, the need for this is vital! Right now the only workaround is to create them on the desktop and then open the file on the iPad, but this has limitations besides not being able to edit the swatches on the device itself. For example if you apply a global to an object, the swatches panel will not indicate in any way that the colour is apply to the object, unlike in the desktop where you can see the swatch highlighted. Thanks!
  23. When I replied to this, I thought a bit more about the way color swatches work atm. I just don't think there is a need for a color swatch that is not "connected" to the objects that are using it. If I change a color swatch, I want to change all the objects that use it. InDesign does it this way, and it makes sense. I know that Illustrator does have "unconnected" swatches as well as "global" swatches -- but I never understood the reason for that. If there's a use case for "non-connected" swatches, please let me know I believe any such use should still be possible with "connected" swatches only. So all the swatches should behave as if they were a "global swatch". Or do "global swatches" have additional features that I haven't found out yet?
  24. I love Publisher but IMHO it has the worst colour system I have ever seen (in over 30 years). How did LAB, RGB and CMYK end up on the same palette when I only work in CMYK and the publication was set for CMYK? I NEVER work in LAB. I have 68 colours like this: "Rick 13-EN_No Photo 2 is the name of the publication. Useless as colour information for an in-document palette. It should be simple to create my own custom CMYK palette but instead it's horribly complicated, if not impossible. It's a monumental time waster. Why can I change a colour in this dialogue but not in that one. And then I can only change it in THAT dialogue, but not this one. A lot of things seem too clever by half in Publisher but colour handling is a serious fault in an otherwise pretty good app.
  25. I really need to be able to import swatches in the iPad apps, and I can find no logical reason not to have this feature. I can import brushes, fonts, symbols, assets, but not swatches? It is essential when working with color to be able to import a palette with specific characteristics. On the desktop it is so easy to do, but on the iPad it is impossible... Also I considered creating a swatches set myself from an imported image, but this required so much back and forth, clicking and opening menus it was a nightmare and I gave up after 4 colors. Please implement importing swatches soon.
