  1. Using AfDes 1.8.3.641 on Win10 x64 I created a style using a solid line and a pressure curve. After using this style on a vector, I change only the stroke width (e.g. from 2.5 to 2). I try to save this as a new style. It does not get added to the styles panel. If I make more changes, like changing the colour, too, then it seems to be possible to add this as a new style.
  2. After using Affinity products professionally for quite some time and observing the development team’s patience and openness to new ideas on the forums, I have a few “unsexy” suggestions to enhancements to take the tedium out of repetitive tasks and keep designers organized. I am truly impressed with Affinity’s products. In gratitude for that, I am inspired to create this Wishlist with some new ideas, and to chime in with some support for the classic, already-suggested ones. Thanks for reading/listening! Most of these suggestions can span all the affinity desktop products some are Designer specific. 1. Organize Assets, Swatches, Brushes, Style Libraries with an edit mode, using an interface like the the "Presets Manager" in Shapes, to allow for re-arranging, renaming, moving between categories. 2. Stoke Pressure Profiles can be saved on an application level. Organize and manage, with an interface like the "Presets Manager" in Shapes. It’s all about efficiency, and not having to reinvent the wheel (stroke!) every time. 3. Layers Panel – Select objects and groups and rename them with a multi-rename tool. Instantly get organized so you and even other people can understand the layer groups and objects in your Affinity document. Interface would allow the user to add a numerical counter as a prefix or suffix when renaming. Handy before using Export Persona to create some basic naming conventions. 4. Sort Layer Groups or artboards in the Layers Panel alphabetically, ascending, descending. Yes, it will change the arrangement order, but properly organized groups can make complex file layers much easier to navigate. Handy for PDF Exporting where the order of pages depends upon the artboard order. 5. Save selection sets that can select items spanning multiple artboards and also within groups. Often similar objects need to be adjusted or moved, but they are on multiple artboards or nested in other functional groups. This can quickly solve that problem. 6. Select by object trait (stroke color, stroke thickness, fill colour). A handy way to quickly select and adjust objects with similar properties. Otherwise selecting these can be a nightmare in complicated projects. 7. Select and replace non global identical colours. Does your client want all the red elements blue? What would they look like in teal or taupe? Play rapidly to your heart’s content. 8. Search Assets Panel ACROSS BOTH categories and subcategories, results displayed as filtered choices. Do you have multiple categories/libraries and need to find the right icon fast? This can save you time. Currently a search has to be made within each asset category, which can take some time if you have multiple asset categories. 9. Handy Show Grid checkbox in Isometric Studio Panel. True, you can use a keyboard shortcut, but it would be nice if this button was upfront. Handy when you are working in Isometric view you have to turn on and off the grid to see the artwork uncluttered. Chances are you have the panel open to constantly switch planes anyways… I hope this helps to add votes for the unsexy underdog features. 😊
  3. Hello I have a weird issue with the font caviar dreams. For whatever the reason in the system at home it show all the variants of the font, regular, italic, bold, bold italic, but I went to the office today only to find out that there with the same fonts and the fonts working on others apps, the affinity designer can't see italic and bold of that font for some reason. I don't know if this is present in another font I just use this for a work and I get the error when I open the file that the caviar dreams bold is missing. I checked in other applications and the font manager I use and the font is there. I tried to install in system just in case and still it doesn't work... I'm confused, everything between my home and office are at sync, windows, affinity versions, etc. Is there an option that I miss and probably force this font out? Thank you!
  4. A search in this part of the forum didn't turn up the following requests regarding Styles, but beg pardon if they've already been discussed and I've just missed them. The newbie experience: Select an object, select the make-a-style-from-it item from the object's context menu—but then it appears that nothing has happened. I thought I'd encountered a bug and tried it a second and third time. Still nothing. Then it occurred to me I'd better check Studio > Styles to see what might have changed there. Of course there were three new styles. User error, yes, but the "nothing happened" experience is perplexing and could be improved. I would like to suggest: Immediately after saving a style, the user sees a small dialog in which the new style can be named. Then there's the question of its category—if there are already user-defined categories. If there are, their names would appear in a drop-down menu in the dialog where the style's name can be entered. If the user simply clicks the dialog's CLOSE button, the style is saved using the default name selected by Publisher, and the style appears within the default category. Frosting-On-Cake: a CANCEL button...clicking that one would cancel the save-new-style operation entirely. Additionally: the ability to cut and paste (or copy and paste) styles between categories within the Styles panel. Of course, if there is a name conflict, error message: sorry, can't do it. But, Frosting-On-Cake: if a name conflict occurs, the user has the option to rename the style being moved or copied, or just cancel the operation.
  5. Here are some of my Text Styles converted from Photoshop to Affinity. Hope these work for you. They might need some tweaking for you needs. Let me know what you think. Enjoy. 6. Maybe the commands I'm after are before my eyes and I'm just not seeing them... Programs like Microsoft Word have "copy and paste text formatting" commands. The commands store character formatting and you can later paste the formatting to other text. With some editors, if a paragraph marker was part of the original selection, you can even paste the copied paragraph formatting—not just character formatting. Something like that could be very useful in Publisher. But are there such commands for use within text frames and I've just missed them? I see a keyboard shortcut for "paste style" but it seems to apply only to objects, not text formatting.
  7. I reported this to Serif via email (I wanted to send a screen shot and chose email because I can't add screenshots here due to some forum bug). If anyone has the time to test this, it would be useful to know if anyone else can replicate it. The problem: trying to update an existing paragraph style fails because the "Update <name of style>" command is absent from the menu where it's expected. Procedure: from https://fonts.google.com download the font named Lobster (the one having only a single variant, not the similarly named font having four variants). This should display the font: https://fonts.google.com/?query=lobster (Not my favorite sort of typeface but it's called for in a class I'm taking.) After installing the font: In Affinity Publisher, use the Artistic Text tool to create a small amount of text and format it using the Lobster typeface. Go to the Text Styles panel, locate "Heading 1," and right-click it. If the bug occurs, the menu will not contain Update Heading 1 at all. In my test document I then added text in a new frame, this time using the Text Frame tool. I assigned Arial to the text — and again the Update Heading 1 menu item did not appear. I deleted that text frame, made another one, formatted the text inside it using Arial—and this time the Update Heading 1 menu item did appear. In what way were these two operations different? I have no idea. To keep testing...I added another text frame and used a typeface called Aleo (also downloaded from https://fonts.google.com). With that block of text selected, the Update Heading 1 menu item does appear as expected. This is baffling. Is the disappearing menu item caused by a font problem of some sort? Or is there something I'm doing wrong in assigning formatting to text?
  8. I am trying to update a 100 page publisher file and have updated the current body style to change the font size. This works fine for new text that I apply the style to, but hasn't updated existing text based on the body style which is still in the original size. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a preference somewhere to update all items with this style to the new style definition? Cheers Gareth
  9. It would extend the usefulness of styles if they could also align text vertically, do edge spacing and fill paragraph boxes. Some times it's nice to have a header with a colour blocked background. I'm not sure if this is standard breaking or not practical but if feels like it could be a great addition to the document wide formatting. Thanks.
  10. Hello developers and friends, I'm working with text styles about every day (as typesetter), and I watched the style tutorials for APu several times. I do not succed in catching how the different classes of styles are hierarchical to each other and how they influence the styles they are "connected" with OR they refer to. Is here someone, who can explain or even can give us a short graphic, how the default styles of APu are organized to/with each other? (I'm using the German version, the names are translations) - There are e.g. the (text and paragraph!) styles "no style". In those there seem to be allocated "Arial". But these styles can't be altered. But I do not need "Arial", no 10/12 pkt, no 12pt gap as fall back formatting. - How does the allocation of "no style" affect imported text, which has unwanted formattings? (It seems to me: no effect or random effects) - how can the (paragraph) style "Grundlage" (English: basic?) be based on "no style"? - how do unwanted formattings in imported texts struggle with the allocation of predefined (paragraph OR tex-) styles within Apu? (they struggle unforseeable) - there is the (text) style "Body". How is that connected with "no style" of text- and paragraph styles? In .indd I can allocate "no style" to a paragraph - and all formattings are cleaned up. Then I can start to format all text, pragraphs and single words/letters. - there seems also to be a paragraph style "normal". How is it based on the *text" style "Body", but on no basic *paragraph* style? For me it's a real mess. And I would like to catch the strukture which is thought behind text and paragraph styles, their hierarchy and their interdependence. - what is the "most important" (all other influencing) text style and paragraph style? - which other styles are depending directly from that (two!) "masters" ? (Because a "Body" *text* style must never influence a paragraph style!) - how is the interdepence-hierarchy of the remaining (text and paragraph!) styles? At the moment I'm struggeling very hard. And it is impossible to typeset a rather simple book for me, because if I alter a selected style all the sudden the total imposition done until that page got "hail-damaged". Many thanks! Johannes
  11. In InDesign there is a function to place a rule (line) above and/or below text. One can adjust the line up or down in relation to the text. The function is available as a character trait, so in the case of equations, I could create a rule (line) below the numerator (top number) and adjust it to be centered vertically between the numerator and denominator of the equation. Publisher has similar styles called line above and line below, but they are both paragraph level—not character level—styles. Is there a way to modify them to work just on selected characters instead of on the whole paragraph? I've searched the fora and YouTube videos and haven't found any help. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
  12. Hello out there, I'm succeeded in deleting more or less all originally installed styles in APu (Mac), but now I think this wasn't a good idea while watching the divers tutorials about managing thoses styles. Because I was somewhat angry about the lot of styles and their really confusing organisation into text, paragraph and groupt styles. I decided to delete them with no document open (!?). Anyway, they are now missing in *all* documents I already created or create new. - I've opened a new document from scratch, but there they are gone, too. - I've reset the text styles via setup menue -> varia (I've a German version), - I've started APu with ctrl hold to get into the reset dialogue -> reset styles - as test I removed the folder "Affinity Publisher" out of the folder "Application Support" -> Library, No success... I think, it may be an idea to reinstall APu "from scratch" or something like that, so that I get the original installation status. Who has the right advice? Greeting from Johannes

  14. I often do forget and also have a hard time to find again resources that others or I have contributed over time here in the forum. In former times I've often oriented on MEB's Affinity resources page, which sadly nowadays isn't up to date any longer (probably it's too much work and too time consuming to keep that up to date). - Here are some links to my own resources section contributions, so I have and keep myself sort of an overview for these.
