  1. A search in this part of the forum didn't turn up the following requests regarding Styles, but beg pardon if they've already been discussed and I've just missed them. The newbie experience: Select an object, select the make-a-style-from-it item from the object's context menu—but then it appears that nothing has happened. I thought I'd encountered a bug and tried it a second and third time. Still nothing. Then it occurred to me I'd better check Studio > Styles to see what might have changed there. Of course there were three new styles. User error, yes, but the "nothing happened" experience is perplexing and could be improved. I would like to suggest: Immediately after saving a style, the user sees a small dialog in which the new style can be named. Then there's the question of its category—if there are already user-defined categories. If there are, their names would appear in a drop-down menu in the dialog where the style's name can be entered. If the user simply clicks the dialog's CLOSE button, the style is saved using the default name selected by Publisher, and the style appears within the default category. Frosting-On-Cake: a CANCEL button...clicking that one would cancel the save-new-style operation entirely. Additionally: the ability to cut and paste (or copy and paste) styles between categories within the Styles panel. Of course, if there is a name conflict, error message: sorry, can't do it. But, Frosting-On-Cake: if a name conflict occurs, the user has the option to rename the style being moved or copied, or just cancel the operation.
  2. It would extend the usefulness of styles if they could also align text vertically, do edge spacing and fill paragraph boxes. Some times it's nice to have a header with a colour blocked background. I'm not sure if this is standard breaking or not practical but if feels like it could be a great addition to the document wide formatting. Thanks.
  3. Hello developers and friends, I'm working with text styles about every day (as typesetter), and I watched the style tutorials for APu several times. I do not succed in catching how the different classes of styles are hierarchical to each other and how they influence the styles they are "connected" with OR they refer to. Is here someone, who can explain or even can give us a short graphic, how the default styles of APu are organized to/with each other? (I'm using the German version, the names are translations) - There are e.g. the (text and paragraph!) styles "no style". In those there seem to be allocated "Arial". But these styles can't be altered. But I do not need "Arial", no 10/12 pkt, no 12pt gap as fall back formatting. - How does the allocation of "no style" affect imported text, which has unwanted formattings? (It seems to me: no effect or random effects) - how can the (paragraph) style "Grundlage" (English: basic?) be based on "no style"? - how do unwanted formattings in imported texts struggle with the allocation of predefined (paragraph OR tex-) styles within Apu? (they struggle unforseeable) - there is the (text) style "Body". How is that connected with "no style" of text- and paragraph styles? In .indd I can allocate "no style" to a paragraph - and all formattings are cleaned up. Then I can start to format all text, pragraphs and single words/letters. - there seems also to be a paragraph style "normal". How is it based on the *text" style "Body", but on no basic *paragraph* style? For me it's a real mess. And I would like to catch the strukture which is thought behind text and paragraph styles, their hierarchy and their interdependence. - what is the "most important" (all other influencing) text style and paragraph style? - which other styles are depending directly from that (two!) "masters" ? (Because a "Body" *text* style must never influence a paragraph style!) - how is the interdepence-hierarchy of the remaining (text and paragraph!) styles? At the moment I'm struggeling very hard. And it is impossible to typeset a rather simple book for me, because if I alter a selected style all the sudden the total imposition done until that page got "hail-damaged". Many thanks! Johannes
  4. Hello out there, I'm succeeded in deleting more or less all originally installed styles in APu (Mac), but now I think this wasn't a good idea while watching the divers tutorials about managing thoses styles. Because I was somewhat angry about the lot of styles and their really confusing organisation into text, paragraph and groupt styles. I decided to delete them with no document open (!?). Anyway, they are now missing in *all* documents I already created or create new. - I've opened a new document from scratch, but there they are gone, too. - I've reset the text styles via setup menue -> varia (I've a German version), - I've started APu with ctrl hold to get into the reset dialogue -> reset styles - as test I removed the folder "Affinity Publisher" out of the folder "Application Support" -> Library, No success... I think, it may be an idea to reinstall APu "from scratch" or something like that, so that I get the original installation status. Who has the right advice? Greeting from Johannes
  5. In InDesign there is a function to place a rule (line) above and/or below text. One can adjust the line up or down in relation to the text. The function is available as a character trait, so in the case of equations, I could create a rule (line) below the numerator (top number) and adjust it to be centered vertically between the numerator and denominator of the equation. Publisher has similar styles called line above and line below, but they are both paragraph level—not character level—styles. Is there a way to modify them to work just on selected characters instead of on the whole paragraph? I've searched the fora and YouTube videos and haven't found any help. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
  6. Select the rectangles group Copy (ctrl+v) Select the circles group paste-style (from the edit menu Ctl+shft+V) Nothing happens. I think the style is transferred but it is not refreshing or something. The dash info is there and the color is there but doesn't update on the screen. BrokenPasteStyleOnGroups.afdesign

  10. Is there any plan to support reflection maps into styles like we have in PagePlus X9? I find it adds a certain realism to some textures and would love to be able to achieve it in Affinity Applications.

  12. Santa just Rejected these Candy Cane Textures! So it's Back to the Drawing Board for me. But Hey! I can't eat them all myself - so I'm offloading them HERE for you lot! I have REMOVED the original files I posted here. I now have a link to the files which includes the original textures created plus a sample of what can be done with the styles - the green and gold globe image. PLEASE MESSAGE ME directly if you experience any difficulties. If you were able to download and import successfully please do share a sample of your work with them Thank you. https://drive.google.com/open?id=13T1riemGFhjSWzqNfvhW7kzagTabBbZp ****** PLEASE NOTE: Some people have reported that they are unable to use / import these files. I apologize; I do not know why this isi happening. Most people have no problems with them. This software is supplied FREE of charge and "AS IS" so use at your own risk. They are virus free checked with AVG Professional Internet antivirus/ malware software. ***** Now, they are fine with small to medium sized images but on large ones the seams start to show. that's why Santa Rejected them! About half of them are solid patterns and the other half have transparent strips for you to place them over say metallic colours! Anyway, Help Yourselves before Santa finds out!

  14. In my former InDesign work, I used a “no break” character GREP-style on most texts so I don't have hanging words.Publisher doesn't have such features, however, it does have a regular search&replace allowing to apply a style to matched texts. “That's almost GREP-styling,” — I thought. So, here's the bug. Reproduction I've made a “no break” character style. It adds a “no break” option to a text, nothing else; very simple. Then, I do a regex search equivalent to this (actually with a longer word list and in Russian) and apply this “no break” style to all matches: \<(?i:(a |the )) The rule finds whole words with the following (regular) space symbol. With short words like articles/prepositions/pronouns, it's a perfectly valid rule for finding spaces that shouldn't be broken. What happens When selected text has “no break” style, text goes outside the column: What should happen instead Text should stay in the column (I had to insert non-breaking spaces and clear styles): Affinity Publisher 1.7.2 release version on latest macOS 10.14 release.

  16. I'm getting the hang of the table formats and the use of cell formats inside a table format. However, I'd still like to be able to quickly apply a style to a specific cell (including fill, borders, insets, etc.) from time to time. I am creating a calendar with empty cells in the 'corners'. The table format helps me set up the basic formatting with grey on the weekends, etc., but I have to manually edit the empty cells at the beginning and end of the month to remove any fill and outside borders. In InDesign I had styles for each potential type of cell and simply applied those styles as needed. Before: After cleaning up: Perhaps this is possible in AP and I'm missing something?
  17. Snow & Ice are Coming! Look out for Demo Video and where to Freeze your copy!
  18. I have been unable to do anything in the Text Styles panel. It will crash before I complete creating a paragraph style or when I click ok. Has anyone else had this problem? Mark (MacOS 10.13.6)
  19. Affected Version: 1.7.1 I tried to reproduce some photoshop styles I used to color smoke like fire. This actually works quite well. The issue here is that I cannot distinguish between the several styles I have created, as the previews in the styles panel is empty. Screenshot: There are actually 18 styles in the selected category, all selectable through a transparent square that hightlights blue when clicked.
  21. I defined a paragraph style with an initial over three lines. On the masterpage it displays the right way, but on the layout pages it streches over 5 lines.
  22. At last I have started to create some assets to Give Back to the Affinity Community! This is a HEFTY style set of brilliant 300 DPI A4 textures. The set is a hefty 810 megs in native Affinity Style format! Next I will separate them out to smaller sets to download from here. In the meantime they are available as a single file . So if you have a slow or low internet bandwidth you can download the smaller sets - so PLEASE do NOT complain about the huge size! I WILL upload and post the smaller sets later. I hope you enjoy them as much as I had when creating the textures! LyricsGirl :>) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1WmFms5d6dDdUVOSHhqbzZfUms/view?usp=sharing
  23. Hi, On AD .445 (because some bugs prevent me to use last versions), it's impossible to add a second style with a stroke of a different width, and the only solution is to add a new category to save this style. But there's another bug: I tried again today — why not? another day, another AD behaviour?! — to add another stroke with a different width and a different pressure curve, and this actions deleted all styles from the 2 previous categories with styles of the same ilk!!!! Going back in the history or reopening the file didn't restored the styles in those categories.
  24. A heap of my stuff- Styles Images and more Fantastic FREE stuff from the site Hosts and other members! https://affinity.graphics/
