  1. Is it possible to dock studio panels in 2 columns on one side? I found the options to have studio panels on the left and right at the same time but I would prefer to have panels in two (or even three) columns on one side. I am currently doing lettering of the comic saga Nanits Chronicles in Affinity Designer and my "standard" working layout is to have script and references on the left side (25% of the 21:9 34' screen) and Designer on the right (75%). The artwork should be in the centre, so I have one long Layer panel + other panels on the right (see attached screenshot). The Layer panel is not docked, is actually floating over the workspace. Is there any chance to dock the two panel columns next to each other?
  2. Unfortunately, there is no "function" to save the studio. (If so, please prove me wrong). That does not mean you can't save it manually, and even keep multiple versions of it to suit your different workspaces. As a bonus or drawback, some of your preferences will also be saved or recalled by the same process. To save your Studio configuration (MAC) The following allows you to keep a safe copy of your studio configuration, including the Toolbar and other preferences (I did not know which ones at this point) Quit Affinity Designer From the finder top drop-down menu, select GO and press [option] — [shift] or [^control] on some systems. A new item called Library should appear in the menu. Click it. Navigate to this location : Macintosh HD/Users/YourUserNameHere/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Data/Library/Preferences Copy the file com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner to a safe location of your choice. I recommend a cloud base storage, so you can get it back on a new or different system at anytimel. Go back to work with peace of mind, your Studio configuration is now safe. To recall the Studio If the studio go astray, or the toolbar plays hide and seek on you: Quit Affinity Designer Copy back com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner to its original location (From where you saved it above) — Replace the existing files Note that the studio will come back the exact same way you had it at the time you copied the file for the first time. Changes you made between the two procedures will be lost. Forever. I have not tested it yet, but I'm sure that some other preference settings will be affected as well, I just don't know to what extent. Multiple Studios: You can make multiple Studio arrangements and save them independently. Just copy com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner to different locations. Be sure to label them properly, so you remember what they are. Very useful on a laptop that uses an external monitor that is not always connected. If you're comfortable with MacOS Automator, you can even create series of app/scripts to save or restore your Studio configuration(s) automatically. Not the smoothest process and I wish there was a prebuilt function for that… But until it does, or someone proves me wrong, it's a workaround. Enjoy!
  3. Why can't I make alignment, arrangement, and snapping a window/tab like color and layer? It's super annoying to have to move my cursor to the edge of the screen, press a button, and align/arrange/change snapping setting. Improve the workflow please!
  4. Loving Affinity so far! A quirk I can't find any info on in this forum relates to the appearance of the brush head when using the Surface Pen. (I'm on a Windows 10 Surface Studio.) When selecting the overlay tool, my mouse's cursor will display the brush as I manipulate it around the file; when using the Pen it shows nothing -- though the tool itself still paints on the image. Any ideas? Thanks!
  5. When purchasing Affinity, customer service told me that the cutout studio was much improved in Affinity. After a lot of searching ... I am not finding it. That is a much used feature in Photoplus and frankly it is better than most of the competition. Thanks
  6. Hi Affinity folks, Please implement the minimized right studio view which should only include icons (tabs) for each studio section and the option to expand to normal view and colapse to icon view. Thanks!
  7. Hi, I'm missing the icons that allow me to switch between personas. I've reset the studio, toggled on and off the toolbars, done the usual searching, but have lost the ability to switch to different personas. Any ideas where these icons could have gone, or a reasonable workaround to switch personas? Thanks!
  8. Hello, I just upgraded in the latest version and I lost my customization of the panels in designer, I have looked around if there is something to save to avoid losing it again (and in upgrading photo) but I couldn't find anything. Is there a way to save this so I can restore it in each update? Thanks
  9. Hi guys, I know it's at least the second time I'm complaining about this, but this time Affinity's behaviour is really irking me big time. Just to freshen up your memory (and because the earlier behaviour, while still undesirable, wasn't all that bad compared to the current one), last time I mentioned this nagging issue, this was what happened: When waking a dual-display Mac from sleep which had parts or the whole of the Studio on the secondary monitor, said panels were moved to the primary monitor, as a snapped-on block , in a similar location as they would appear on the secondary one (see screenshots “Designer” and “Photo”, below), which is conveniently located to the right of my main screen and only shifts the panels a bit from their default location. The only way to avoid this issue would be to quit Affinity Designer/Photo before putting the Mac to sleep, but at least if you forgot about that you could drag all of your panels to the secondary monitor. [By the way, while I'm at it, another bug/undesirable behaviour that I detected back then and which still hasn't been fixed in 1.5.x or in these 1.6.x betas is that if you drag the panel group from the topmost panel and push it even one pixel above the lower edge of the menu bar – regardless of whether you are doing it on the main monitor or on the secondary one –, the whole panel group will start breaking apart and grouping panel tabs in undesirable combinations all by itself, which is a serious abuse of Fitt's Law (it should be applied in useful functionality like hot corners, menus and other UX interactions like maximising or snapping, not semi-random, uncontrollable interactions that feel more like bugs rather than features; in this case, dragging the panel group against or above the menu bar should obviously result in, well, absolutely nothing besides it stopping its movement along the y axis).] Enter screwed-up scenario #2, under the 1.6.x betas: Now, when you wake up the Mac from sleep, the panels will reappear on the right-hand side of the primary monitor, in a semi-snapped state (they are not actually snapped but spaced with 5 px gutters between them), and some of them even lose their width info (I like to expand the Glyphs panel, for instance, so it opens up as a large window covering almost the entire remaining space in the secondary monitor, but it reverts to its default, minimum width) which screws up my setup even further (see screenshots “Designer Beta” and “Photo Beta”, below). Whereas before, I could just drag the whole thing back to its rightful place, now I have to either piece them all back together from scratch, or force quite the apps so they purge their current, unsaved – and patently undesirable – preferences and revert to their earlier state (which, while already an option before, is something I'd rather avoid doing, especially if I have open documents). To add insult to injury, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop CC do not even put the panels in the wrong monitor (they just shift them around a bit, but enough to render them unusable), and I managed to fix the issue by assigning an easy to remember keyboard shortcut (Cmd+Opt+hyphen) to the “Reset Workspace” command, which works a charm. I know this is actually a macOS issue (because besides Adobe apps, iTunes and other apps will sometimes also forget where they are supposed to draw their windows and shift them around the secondary monitor or redraw them on the main one) but please, oh please, can't you try to make Affinity play nice[r] with multiple monitor setups, on the Mac at least? There are a lot, and I mean *a lot* of professional Mac users who run such setups… And if you can't make it put the panels in the right monitor automatically (because macOS and its APIs, or its lack thereof), can't you at least make the apps revert to their older 1.5.x behaviour or implement some sort of Workspace functionality, to give us more advanced customisation management options and compete head-to-head with Adobe? [P.S.: I'll be sending Apple feedback on macOS and link to this topic thread; it's a damn shame that the OS which offers what is currently still the best multiple monitor support in the market can't get something as simple as this absolutely right and provide developers with the tools to do it as well].
  10. Hi Guys, sorry in advance for my bad english I'm trying the trial version about Affinity Photo and that is what I found that doesn't work well: - Editing size and hardness of brush is really annoying: in PS I just need to right-click and fix how I want or Alt+right-click to edit in the fastest way the settings. Can you implement this in the next version? - Studio editing is pretty good but I can't group the tools, for example: if I want that all the tools selection are in a single group I can't do it, in PS I just need to drag them in a tool's icon tool to make them stay together. - The Blemish Removal tool works only with circles and I can't drag that... Under, in the info, there also written DRAG: bug or drag is just to select where Photo have to take the pixels to correct? IMHO Should be a brush... - During the selection work on PS if I press Shift I can add the next drag to my selection, if I use Alt I will delete. Can you implement also that please? - Develop Persona: There's somethings that doens't work good: I can't work simultaneously on more raws image (if I have a sequence I want to edit in the same way all the shots in syncro...) The raw edited can't be closed and worked later: I'll lose all my corrections. Can you fix that? Just like the .xmp files of ACR or in the metadata like LR I can't find the HSL panel that I use really much on PS or LR, can you implement please? Last thing: can you encourage people to create panels also for you? TK Panels and Beauty Retouch is a must for my workflow in landscape and portrait..! However Affinity Photo is a really, really, REALLY good: Smooth, fast, unexpensive, etc. If I think that you are just at 1.5 version... Wow. Keep up to good work! When you'll fix this problems I'll surely buy and incentivate my friends to buy the program. Thanks to have made a good competitor of Photoshop! =D
  11. Hi, it is not possible to set Keyboard Shortcuts fot some Tabs in Studio.... eg. Swatches, Color.... Thanks Jindra
  12. Recently I have not been able to see the document that I am working on or any of the following at the same time: * Toolbar * Tools * Context Toolbar *Studio I can tab to toggle the UI on and off. When UI is off and I can see the document if I use the View menu to see any of the above then the document disappears from view. I have tried resetting all the default but this does not solve the problem. I have the same problem with the beta version. I am running Windows 10.and experienced other problems (with restarting) after Windows updates were installed on 12-13 September; the latest Windows update has fixed this.. This may be a coincidence but AP worked fine before (I am not sure of the exact date but certainly after 1 September). After the Windows updates I did not try AP until a couple of days ago. Have I accidentally changed something? Has anyone else ever had the same problem? Update 30/09/2017 I have found the cause of the problem as the settings for AMD Radeon™ R5 Graphics card. The drivers for this card were updated with the Windows updates and the new driver appears to have either caused the problem or changed the settings. The setting for the Affinity Photo now default to "Unassigned". If I change these to "Power Saving" the problem disappears when I restart AP but reappear if I select any other setting.
  13. It would be useful to have an option in AD of saving what panels and how they appear in my View/Studio. These "custom" studio setups could then be brought into any AD doc.
  14. Normally, I use Lightroom and Photoshop for editing, but having seen the write up in Professional Photo this month about Affinity Photo, I thought I'd give it a try to see if I can save money on the Adobe CC subscription. I'm currently on a trial version of Affinity Photo, so assume that although a professional photographer, I am a new novice user of the product! ;) One of the most common things for me to do other than colour correction, contrast, saturation, etc. is to clean up white backgrounds. In the studio, I am often using a white infinity cove for portraits of babies, products, families, etc. We all know that white is a real pain for showing up marks, gaining the inevitable scuffs and marks during a shoot that, although not that noticeable to the naked eye, the camera exaggerates. I am looking for a similar quick and easy way to clean those up in Affinity, as I use in Photoshop. The way I do this in PS, is very simple. I create a duplicate layer, select Filter, Noise, Median, with around a 20px radius, select a Hide All Layer and erase the marks on the top layer, which suitably blurs the marks and gives me a pretty clean photo quickly. I've tried a similar process with Affinity, but the results are nowhere near as good as in PS. Maybe I am making a stupid rookie mistake in the way I am doing it, but it is nowhere near as clean and crisp as in PS. Any ideas? It must be a QUICK and EASY approach, so no suggestions of using frequency separation or creating manually selected masks please in any solutions, unless it can be done in 5 mins per photo, as I am often editing photos that the client may not even buy. They are just being given the once over edit for a viewing session, so that they look good enough for the client to choose, but they don't need to be perfect. In the viewing session, the client will choose which ones to buy and those will then be given the full edit. Yes, I know some of you are thinking that I should do the full edit on everything before showing them to the client, but no, I am not in rich London and the South East, where people have money to burn. I am in the North West of England, where incomes are much more conservative and people therefore have less expendable cash. I used to do the full edits on everything and learned the hard way that it was just a waste of my time to do that on 25-30 photos from a session, when the clients were only likely to buy 1-5, which they still do! Regards, Gordon
  15. A simple one from me - not found it anywhere else so apologies if it's a duplicate. I tend to prefer all panels - minus the tools - swept over to the right hand side of the workspace. I'd love to see the (already pretty flexible) Studio system allow for double-stacked columns of panels on the right, rather than just a left/right/floating option. Thanks!
  16. I've tried manually dragging them apart and back to their original locations, as well as searching the 'View' and other main menus but haven't yet found how to uncouple them. Additionally, when I select something from the Color-panel...it 'leaps' in front of the now combination Layer/Transform-panel. I'd love to know the 'How & Why' to this as it may come in handy in the future. But for now, I'd like to return the 'studio' to its original default panel set. *AD 1.5.4 on a MacBook Pro* Would someone please enlighten me? Thanks much, -Christo
  17. Hey Serif, is there (in aff designer) an option to minimize the studio panel tools to single icons as its implemented in PS? I work often on my 15" inch laptop with fullhd and i have lack of place here because the studio has its own minimal width and cannot be minimized. Viewport is much better in PS thanks this and i will appreciate this feature in designer too, because i actually replaced PS by your sexy software :) Thanks. Sorry for possible topic duplicate - i couldn't read every feature request here. Tom
  18. Is there a way for AF to remember the UI settings between sessions. If I uncheck 'Show Left Studio' from the View / Studio menu, to hide the left panel, this setting isn't remembered, which means if I don't have any need to use the Left Studio panel for the current project/s, I have to manually turn it off each time I launch Designer. Obviously not a major issue, but would be great if this was a 'sticky' setting perhaps?
  19. Wow! Surface Studio seems to be giving its competition, Wacom and Apple, a run for their money. There's a lot of arguments out there, but i wish Apple could design an iMac and macOS to accept touchscreen input in the manner Studio does. I remember Craig demonstrating drawing on an iPad Pro and then copying the drawn map to a Mac at WWDC2016. This was supposed to showcase the brilliance of the new Universal Clipboard feature that binds iOS and macOS devices closer together. Comparing to Studio now, that copy-paste feature really looks like a desperate workaround more than anything else. When it comes to productivity, Microsoft certainly has trumped Apple, at least for now. This makes me consider switching allegiances. Apple needs to address this quickly! Right now, I strongly feel that their adamant decision to not sort of merge iOS and macOS, is more of an egotistical stance and a cruel business strategy to generate more profits. I'll reserve more comments for now, until at least after 27th October when Apple will be announcing new Mac hardware. http://www.pcworld.com/article/3135370/computers/hands-on-microsofts-surface-studio-is-a-windows-pc-for-the-mac-crowd.html Will Affinity on Windows be "tweaked" to take advantage of the Surface Dial?
  20. I know it is THE new feature, but I think it is not meant to be spawned when you do: Create new empty document Add some text move mouse to top menu and select: View --> Studio While it selects Studio it closes the menu and spwans "Text Styles" here:
  21. Hi there, Does Affinity Photo support the "Portrait Professional Studio" photoshop plug in ?. Thanks, Rafael
  22. Please consider adding user-defined Shortcuts for the individual Panels in Studio. It would unclutter real estate for those of us with smaller screens (21" in my case) and save so much time now used in dragging panels in and out of the stack so that I can see ALL of the entries or options. Rather than clicking on a (drawer?) to open it, scrolling to find the option or entry, then clicking to close it again, I could simply use my non-drawing hand to hit a key combo to open the panel full length, make my selection, and close it again with the shortcut to return to a full uncluttered work surface. There are a number of functions/tools that I have little to no use for that I could use more productively for the Panels. And no, turning the whole Studio On or Off does not solve the scroll problem. To end on a more positive note, the work you have already done on Shortcuts is fantastic. And we do appreciate all the time and effort you guys put into trying to make things as easy and smooth for us as possible.
  23. I just bought Affinity Designer and created my first project for a client. I have chosen this project because it is very simple and allows me to try the software in a professional matter. Because I refuse to have my work held hostage by Adobe, I writing these comments with the best intentions to make Affinity Designer the number one software. I know Serif is working on adding Pantone Colors and other things, So I hope I just adding a new list of things that has not being mention before. Here are some problems I encountered with Affinity Designer: Guide Lines: Pulling a guideline from top sometimes works and sometimes does not. Ruler in inches very difficult to read specially when zoom very close. Need better hierarchy display. Opening a New Document: When setting a new artwork, “Include Margins” does not allow “0.125” (1/8”). It changes to “0.13” which is unacceptable for pre-press production. Default “Colour Format” is “RGB/8” when should be CMYK, specially for printing production. Should be a preference to set this very important key factor for professional artwork. Character Format: This floating window takes a lot of space, when it can be a lot smaller. “Typography” window is not available on Toolbar which is extremely important for Graphic Design. Should be shown inside Character Format window or at least available on Toolbar. Changing to different tool with “Hot Key” or “Keyboard Shortcut” after using Text Tool is not available. Swatches should be avail to show Gray Scale, Gradient and Colors on the same window. I personally feel that does not makes sense to have 3 different sections when we, the artist, use from gray scale, gradient, colors and everything in between in one artwork. ************** Suggestion: Should be an option to save my “Studio” windows settings (more than one setting depending on the type of project at hand). You may want to have an option to set different preferences when opening a new document: For Web Design: RGB Colors, Pixels Units for ruler, 72 PPI, Hex Color Swatches, etc. For Graphic Design: CMYK Colors, Inches Units for ruler, Pantone Color Swatches (Solid, Pastels, Metallic, etc.), 300 DPI etc. ************** Objects do not show if they are outside Document Dimensions. This could represent a problem and limits the design aspect. Sometimes we have different objects outside the document dimensions to be use inside the document dimensions. If we cannot see other objects to be use inside the document limits the creativity. Not to mention that some objects may remind hidden and can cause pre-press production problems. For Example a CMYK Object on a Spot color project (or vise-versa) ************** Suggestion: Should be an easier way to duplicate and move the text or objects in one action without using copy and paste and then moving the text or objects. ************** Text Tool sometimes does not select text, it tries to create a new text. Which makes you to first go to the Tool Box, select “Move Tool” (V), select text, change to Text Tool and then you can edit text. But I can always mentions the thing that are amazing about Affinity Designer, like realtime adjustment of Text Point size, or Font. I think that not only it cuts a lot of design process time, but it also increase the creativity and expand options or concepts in a very spectacular way. Ok, this is for now, because I have work to do and I have not get the chance to play with each tool. I hope Serif finds these comments useful.
  24. Every time I download a new beta, when I go into it the studio is not visible. I have to do a Reset Studio to get it visible. Is this by design? The first beta I downloaded I thought was defective for a couple days until I found the cure. Today's download did it again. Am I the only one to have this issue? 27" iMac late 2009 running Yosemite 10.10.1
