  1. Designer crashed and brought down my computer. After rebooting, Designer won't open. I've tried restarting Windows again. Watching the task manager, I can see Affinity Designer open in the background processes for roughly one second before disappearing. NVidia graphics card, up to date on drivers. Event Viewer is showing a .NET Runtime error: Application: Designer.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.NullReferenceException at Backtrace.BacktraceDatabase.LoadReports() at Backtrace.BacktraceDatabase.Start() at Serif.Affinity.Application.SetupBacktrace() at Serif.Affinity.Application..ctor() at Designer.Application.Main(System.String[])
  2. When I just open a file instead of open the app first, can you make the startup window disappear since I already decided what file I wanna work on. Another thing is, I don't get any notice when I get reply about my question, is there any setting I should turn on?
  3. Hi there! Is there a way to set a default-font on startup? It's always "Arial" (Win), and not the first in that list (in my case: "Adobe Garamond Pro"). So I guess, there could be a setting or tweak... I would like to switch to my standard Myriad Pro. Thank you! Micha
  4. Hello everyone, I'm having an issue where both Affinity Designer and Photo stay at "Not Responding" for about 3 minutes when starting up the program and THEN it opens fully. Basically it is super slow to open. This is a clean install as I just bought the software and there's nothing else running on the PC and the PC is still new and running well so it's clearly a problem with the software. I already tried changing the performance options (Renderer to the dedicated GPU instead of the iGPU which is the default for some reason. Also tried WARP). As for how well the program runs once it opens it's, meh, it runs jerky, zoom animations are slow and panning is super slow (This is NOT 60fps as advertised, more like 5fps) BUT if I use the touchscreen it works quite well, much better than the touchpad. I tried the software on a Mac and it was amazing but on Windows it kinda sucks so far. My Specs are: Windows 10 Home (1903 / 18362.145) Intel i7-8550U RAM 16GB iGPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 dGPU: Nvidia MX150 EDIT: It appears that panning and zoom have improved somewhat! But sadly it still takes super long to start and still says "Not responding".

Hi, i know this alread was an topic discussed, but with the upgrade to the latest affinity photo and designer verisons both 1.7x i get a message during startup saying that at least there is a graphicscard needed that is directx 10 compatible. I didnt get that with the former and least 1.6.x versions installed. the check with gpu-z shows that the installed graphics card is capable of directx version 11. I attached a screen shot. was there a change in directx detection going from 1.6.x to 1.7.x? I didn't get that message before my upgrade to 1.7.x. thanks for investigating
  6. Hi, I have lots of fonts and it slows down the startup of Affinity Photo and designer, because every time it is loading all fonts. Is there anything I can do to speedup things besides deleting fonts? Regards & Thanks, David
  7. Hi everyone! I'm a calligrapher, and I've just opened my calligraphy business - clearly the first thing to do.... create my logo! I did the calligraphy with a Wacom tablet and then edited the lines a bit etc to make it neater / thicker where needed. Simple but fun... and now onto the rest of the tutorial videos
  8. Hello Team Affinity, I am facing this weird issue running both Affinity Designer & Photo with dual monitor setup. I usually keep my Application window on my primary display and arrange the necessary tools panel in my secondary display. Everything works perfectly fine but, after every week or 10 days the display gets swapped actually. I mean the Application window moves to the secondary monitor and the tools panels moves to my primary with the exact panel arrangement. Here are the screenshots of the issue. Below image describes the layout I usually set, After a week or so, when I launch Designer or Photo, the results look like the below screenshot. I have a Nvidia GTX 750TI 2GB Graphics card with latest drivers installed. And I did not perform any driver update in between. If you need any further information to fix my issue, please do let me know. Thank you Vishnu Raghav B
  9. Hi, In both Affinity Designer as well as, I cannot currently open any file, or even start a new document, without the application crashing. This is obviously really annoying as I have started a small project using the software, which worked fine, but now I have no possibility of accessing the saved file(s). I don't really understand what has changed. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the application, to no avail. The problem first occurred after leaving the software open through a hibernation of Windows. This is on Windows 10 Pro build 17134. Detailed hardware info attached in second attachment. The error message is: "An Unhandled Exception has occurred and the application cannot continue. The Crash Reporter will be displayed after the application exits. Reference: 833df4fb-9734-43a9-8c26-a0cd1f3da7ea" (screenshot attached). As shown in the screenshot, the application shows the file as loaded to 100 %, but no part of the file is displayed yet. The same happens when clicking on New Document on the startup panel, and then pressing ok on the default settings in the New Document settings dialogue (after a very short flicker, the same message as shown in the screenshot appears, with a different reference obviously). For what it's worth, Affinity Photo appears to still work fine. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, J
  10. When starting Publisher the splash screen has a sample option on the right hand side. When clicked there is an option to download an "Affinity Brochure". Clicking on the icon to download it shows the following: This screen needs to have a progress bar or something to indicate that it is actually doing something. I was confused by it showing the red cross. I thought it was saying that it was not available. It needs a pop up as well when click saying "Download Sample" or "Cancel Download" The only reason that I gave it the time to download was that I was filling out this post and it managed to complete download it in the background. As an aside, it also needs to have something about not being able to save the document... That is also confusing as hell given that when you close it you are asked to save your changes yet they are not then when reopening it... (perhaps a disclaimer / instruction page as the first page).

I'm using AP, and have never had any problems with the software, but recently I've been getting occasional startup failures, where I receive the error message "could not load your settings - some settings may be incorrect". AP then loads in a minimised window, with the splash screen displayed (though I normally have it switched off). Both of these I can live with, but the most annoying effect is that all my plugins vanish from the Filters>Plugins menu, and have to be re-set. Has anyone else experienced this behaviour? I'm assuming there's an *.ini file somewhere that isn't being read correctly. Does anyone have a workaround for this so I don't have to remember and re-load all my plugins every time this happens?   12. Hi! I haven't been using Affinity Photo for like a week and when I tried to launch it today I was not able to do it. I searched the web for any solutions but I did not find anything that would solve my issue. The problem is that when I try to launch the app, it gives me an error windows saying that an Unhandled Exception had occured and the application couldn't continue. Could you please help me solve this? I need to be able to work in Affinity asap. Thanks.
  13. Hi I have Dffinity Photo and just bought Affinity Designer aswell for work purposes. But the designer app keeps crashing when i try to launch it. ​The strange this is that if i open a file in "Designer" it does NOT crash. ​ ​The crash message i get is: ​An unhandled exception has occured and the application cannot continue. ​The crash reporter wil be displayed after the application exits.     2.5 minute startup time

    I have a reasonably powerful Windows 10 PC (64-bit) and it takes about 2.5 minutes to start Designer or Photo. I have a large number of fonts installed but that's necessary to because I'm a font designer. I'm often dealing with font specimens and I need them all there. Is there are way to reduce loading lime besides reducing the number of installed fonts? Would it make much of a difference if it was installed on a SSD?

    startup problem in Mac

    Herewith my conversation on the facebookpage concerning a start up problem of affinity: me: now I'm having an awkward problem: affinity won't start up. I get the logo and then a black screen and the colored wheel that keeps turning. I've already restarted the Mac but it doesn't help. I recently installed macOS high Sierra. could that be the reason? answer:Hi Pieter, it should be working fine.     Hi, When I open any of my documents in affinity I can only see black. I have tried resetting my application numerous times and resetting my preferences to no avail. Please help!!! -Erika
  18. HI there! I've been struggling for hours trying to open Affinity Photo on my iMac, which it's freezing when I try to open it (reinstalling, safe boot and all that stuff didn't work). I identified the problem immediately after it happened: I was creating a new brush When I tried to load a texture, the program crashed Then I re-opened AP, tried to load that texture again and AP crashed again I didn't try to reload that texture again, because I figured out that it was causing the program to crash I re-opened AP for a third time, and since then, the app freezes before it gets started I wan't to know how to delete all my brushes manually from outside the program... As far as I know, there's no data stored in Mac's Library Folder right?, so I can't figure out how to delete that brushes and prevent AP to try looking for them when starting up... any idea on how to purge the cache would be helpful too. Thanks in advance.
  19. Hello, I purchased both Designer and Photo on April 17. Also updated designer from 1.5.2 to 1.5.3 and photo from 1.5.1 to 1.5.2 when the updates became available and both worked fine up until yesterday. Now when starting the programs up both will result in an Unhandled Exception (Picture attached). As far as i know i have done no significant changes to my OS, system or software. Tried so far: Uninstalled Designer 1.5.3 and Photo 1.5.2 Reinstalled Designer 1.5.2 - Same error Uninstalled Designer 1.5.2 and reinstalled D1.5.3 & P1.5.2 back - Same error Im running win 10 professional 64 bit.   20. Hi, I purchased Photo last week but have been unable to get the program to work properly. The program appears to start fine but the issue occurs when I either try to open or create a new file. The program either closes itself or I get program has stopped responding then closes. I have tried, removing .net, upgrading 4.6 to 4.7 back to 4.6 with reboots in between each step Reinstalled the video drivers Tried booting using Clean boot via msconfig.exe with selective startup and everything except MS products disabled.   21. Hello y'all. I'm please to use Affinity Designer lately. However, I realized I unchecked the panel on startup accidentally when I open the app for the first time. I really want to try out the samples on the panel, but I don't know how to retrieve the panel. Please help me. :'(
  22. Hi Serif folks, This is a nitpick, but an important one. I'm honestly excited to share Affinity Photo and Designer with my design team at work, but four of the eight the sample documents in the Welcome panel are of retouched female models. Two of these four have the title "bang | Photography", giving them an overtly sexual connotation. This kind of social messaging may very well have a negative impact on these brilliant products' appeal to women designers—seeing this kind of imagery as "the kinds of things people create with Affinity Photo" may feel exclusionary to them. With regards to the use of models in general, I get that retouching is an important use case for Affinity Photo, but my concern is that these sample documents overwhelmingly cater to a male demographic. Furthermore, their presence is not negated by the more whimsical imagery in the other samples; those are simply neutral by comparison. Replacing even half of those model-based sample documents with male models would be an improvement, but a step further would be samples that, no matter who's depicted, avoid overtly sexual and exclusionary imagery / messaging. The Affinity product page is already using wonderful other-worldly imagery to advertise the applications, so I'd say, more of that please! I say this as someone who's, again, very excited about the Affinity application line and wants to help the team recognize and remove unnecessary barriers to achieving wide appeal amongst all sorts of designers. If I'm out of line here, my sincere apologies. Hopefully I've been able to communicate the positive intentions of this feedback. Cheers, Joe
