  1. I have two simple shapes, a circle and an 'L' shape. (See the attached screenshot.) I'm trying to align the circle to the inner edges of the L, so that they touch at two points. When I drag the circle, it refuses to snap to these edges. I can't even get guides to snap! I've played around with the snapping manager, but to no avail. Curiously, when transforming the circle, snapping to the inner edges works just fine! Just not when dragging. It's driving me nuts. Please help before I give up and do the job in Illustrator!)
  2. I'd really love to be able to have a shortcut to show/hide snapping candidates. :)
  3. Please it would be very very useful to have better snapping option in export persona and special the snapping should take in consideration the guides place in the photo persona. also it would be very useful to have a fonction that would allow to create slice base on layer, but also transform those created slice into slice that would take all layer from top to bottom in consideration. exemple if i create my slice from my background layer i would like this slice to be able to export all contend of above and under layer within that slice. let me know in case i missed those fonction in your existing version. Best Regards. F
  4. This thread is not about object boundaries. How I can turn on snapping to paths to snap guide for this square-like thingy right there?
  5. A simple one from me - not found it anywhere else so apologies if it's a duplicate. I tend to prefer all panels - minus the tools - swept over to the right hand side of the workspace. I'd love to see the (already pretty flexible) Studio system allow for double-stacked columns of panels on the right, rather than just a left/right/floating option. Thanks!
  6. Hi I hope I'll explain my problem well. I am trying to use Affinity Designer as my new UX tool for wireframes and mockups, and so far so good. But there is a little something that is irritating. Every time I want to center some text inside like a circle or a square, it is never truely centered. My snapping tools are on. but still even if I put my text on the red and green line, the text is always a little off. I saw that every text got a little space between his bottom and the bottom of the selection box. So I think it is because of that, I am looking in the transform text dialogue box to see if I can do something... but no good conclusion. What should I do? Thank You
  7. 1. In Adobe Illustrator it is possible to turn off bounding box from menu or by using a keyboard shortcut,. This enables one to select an object by one of its anchor points and move the entire object without changing the shape of the object. This is useful and in some cases indispensable for building complex objects or shapes by moving one object by its anchor point and snapping it to the anchor point of another object. Is there any way of achieving this in Affinity Designer? 2. A related question: Also in Illustrator it is possible to select and edit objects within a group of objects and edit the selected object without ungrouping. How can one do this in Affinity Designer?
  8. I've created a project in Affinity Designer and I'm in the process of attempting to export my graphic elements but I'm finding the slice tool refuses to snap to anything other than the middle of the artboard. Is there a way to enable slice snapping to objects or guides at least? Unfortunately creating slices with the objects selected doesn't work for me either because the slice tool for some reason thinks I want to include the parts I masked off  I'm really stuck here at the moment, so any help would be appreciated.
  9. Hi all. I was perplexed when I drew half a logo, snapping all of its right-side line ends to a vertical guideline; then mirrored it horizontally and expected the new half to line up correctly. It didn't. The centerline nodes of the two halves were offset horizontally by a tiny amount, so after I'd combined the shapes and tried to delete the redundant (overlapping) nodes down the center (along the guideline), the geometry was messed up (no longer symmetrical). I attached a screen grab of the apparent bug in action. Anyone else notice this? Thanks. Edit: I guess this belongs in the bug forum, but I can find no way to delete posts. Re-posting there... bogusSnapping.mov
  10. Hi, I am a Graphic Designer with 25 years of experience. yes, I started with Mac Paint...I'm that old! but as other colleagues did, I am saying good bye to Adobe for ever. I hate Subscription plans and also I like the idea that I own my software too. Saying that I am happy that Affinity Designer and Photo are here. I'm very impressed. Even my clients that are very 'photoshop only files please' paranoid never knew that I've been sending them Affinity psd converted files instead so, that's is a plus in my book. Please bared with me in this one, I'm learning all the features step by step, little by little with these apps. This question I will ask is embarrassing for me because of the simplicity that may be doing it. How I get the guide lines that help me center an image or layers inside a working document? Pixelmator have this in the view tool bar but I can't find it in Affinity Photo. I thought it was the snapping tool but it doesn't work as in Photoshop or Pixelmator! (and AP is way more professional than Pixelmator IMHO). Here's a picture attached to let you know what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hi, I want to snap individual object inside a group, but when I hovering my cursor to the object I wanted, the whole group was selected, and my candidate list is set to 6, so end up everything in my page were purple color indicated selected since all group selected when I point to more things. why this happen but not before? How do i solve this problem? Previously I can just hovering my cursor to whatever i want then a purple color will flash around the object to indicate you can snap to it no matter it is in a group or not. but now after 1.5 update or any reason, I can't do that anymore. even the whole group been selected, I can't snap to any object inside the group, only the boundary of the group. This is a follow up to my previous unsolved question https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30909-how-to-snap-object-base-on-bottom-object/?p=152215 This is my snapping setting, if anything wrong please correct me The snapping I wanted is like this Please help! I wanted to continue my project as soon as possible!
  12. Hey guys, it would be a REALLY great productivity enhancer to have a keyboard equivalent to toggle snapping on and off... something like pressing S while using ANY tool. Thanks for considering this suggestion. Cheers!
  13. Hello, I have an animated GIF that I would like to recreate with an SVG instead. It seems like the easiest academic case for practicing snapping to me: everything is black and white and there are only horizontal and vertical lines. The snap points are easy to find automatically. However after quite some unsuccessful trial and error and reading in the forums it seems like there could be some slightly tricky behaviour about this... So please indulge if I ask now before digging further! ;) Thank you in advance for all hints, gergely FWIW here is the object:
  14. Hello Affinity, I have a question with snapping, even when it's off, it's still snapping. I can't find any option to turn it off. I've attached a picture to show what it looks like and you'd notice on the upper left that the snapping is off. (Photo taken on using my phone since I can't use any modifier key to screenshot). I'm using AD 1.5.4 on a macbook pro, El Capitan.
  15. Hello ! I know this have already been asked, but I'm waiting this since 2014 and I don't know if this feature has been added. Is there any way to snap handle control point to the grid / pixel grid / guide ? Thanks SnappingDance.mov
  16. Thanks for a fantastic piece of software! The only major thing missing right now I believe is snapping of bezier handles e.g. to grid points in order to draw more "geometrically inspired" or "clean" shapes quickly. In addition numerical control of bezier handles would be a great addition too. :-)
  17. I love the obviousness of the snapping candidates when I'm working, but they make it hard to tell what my design will actually look like, especially with thin strokes. Could we either: have a hotkey that toggles snapping on and off (yes, it's in the toolbar, but that doesn't allow for quick checks via muscle memory)? have a hotkey to a "preview mode" wherein all guides, grids, snapping candidates, etc are hidden?
  18. Hi guys. This had me confused for a longer while and I think could be named better. In the snapping options, AD currently has "Snap to shape key points" and "Snap to object geometry". I was looking for an option to snap to nodes, which I think is the most common use case. I thought it would be under "Snap to shape key points", since I wasn't sure what you call a point/node/vertex/key point/control point in AD lingo (I mean, every program seems to have its own naming). I was very confused to see that it resulted in snapping to curves or their extensions; this is exactly what I thought the second option does (geometry). Turns out "key points" are actually extended guides from any objects (which in my document translates to "random lines at crazy angles appearing everywhere"), and "object geometry" means curves and nodes with preference given to nodes. May I suggest renaming it like so: Snap to object geometry > Snap to nodes, edges and intesections Snap to shape key points > Snap to points of importance and extended edges or whatever this is actually supposed to do, I'm not super clear on this despite reading help and trying to use it in my document. Or maybe the snapping options need to be broken down a little further? Cheers
  19. When selecting or when I want to crop, the snap doesnt seem to work to snap to area with pixel info on a layer. It snaps to the end of the canvas, but if I have a layer filling the canvas and on that layer is only a small square in the middle of the layer, then the crop snap doesnt snap to the dge of that square. I've switched on ALL snapping I could find in Snapping Manager
  20. Hi Folks, More of a general question to put out there tonight. How do I make sure the shape/object/image I am creating is symmetrical? I have used the pen tool to create a shape I was after but I need to make sure it is symmetrical. How would I go about doing this? is there any option to see this? plus then I want to insert other shapes inside my main shape but I want to make sure they are lined up perfectly with certain sections of the original shape. Is there an option somewhere to assist with this? Random I know but just a general question that has been bugging me lately. Cheers folks Mark
  21. I was wondering if there was a feature somewhere that you can take a object and "snap to pixel" like in Sketch and Fireworks - or some way to only use full pixels to create objects, move objects and even aligning objects. I've noticed when I export assets that are not perfectly lined up on a pixel, the object then becomes anti-aliased which is super frustrating, cause then i need to go back and realign every object. The fact that I have objects on a x (or y) position at 20.1is a bit counter intuitive to web design i think. This has also led to problems exporting and lining up the slicing tool (attached). So I guess my question is 1. is there a "snap to pixel" 2. is there setting to say "use only full pixels" in which objects would snap to?* *I know there is the snap to pixel in the magnet, but that doesn't work when creating objects or moving them freely around. Thanks.
  22. Part of my workflow in Freehand is draging guides onto anchorpoints. When "snap to point" is activated in Freehand the guides perfectly snap to the anchorpoints. To do so in AD it would be necessary, to be able to drag guides frome the ruler while in node tool. Actually, this is not possible, but maybe it would be a nice option for future updates... Speaking about guides, another nice thing, that I like in Freehand and that would be great to see implemented in AD, ist the possibility to convert any shape to guides. And one last thing: Congratulations for the latest update! It was one more big step forward and I can’t wait to see the next bunch of cool functions implemented in your already great piece of software!
  23. Add snapping to the self line point belongs to. Imagine, the point is between 2 another point and when I moving, and line becomes straight — bang and it is snapper similar like to another geometry. And you can move ahead this straight line. And it still snapping to another geometry. So I can snap to some curve and make line straight at once, it is impossible now.
  24. Hey, first of all: I really love the snapping candidate approach. I love to control the snapping by selecting one or two candidates and moving my object slowly to snap it to the gaps (see attachment 1) The problem is: When I'm slowly moving my object, it often happens, that shapes near the desired location are added to the candidate list, messing up my candidates. I'd like to chose the candidates manually, maybe by clicking the mousewheel or another shortcut. Another option would be an isolation mode to exclude other objects temporarily. ~Andrej PS: Ignore the top left object in the second screen.
  25. If snapping is disabled and one selects a preset snapping gets enabled but one has to select the preset again to set the preset options. Attached a video. 2016-09-30-snapping-presets.zip
