  1. Dear Sirs and Madams, (sorry for my bad english) first: aphoto and adesigner are both very very cool and useful programs. :D it was a very short time to converse my habituation from indesign to adesigner. (meanwhile i rather use adesigner) your video-tutorials was very helpful but in aphoto i must learn still some things, so i am sorry when following suggestions or questions are unnecessarily: 1. shortcuts in non-english keybord-layouts thats a big problem for german users because the user operability suffers some time. especially the „[" and „]“ keys are not reachable in german keyboard layouts. is there an (usable) way or for german users without changing the whole keyboard layout? (that would be in conflicts with shortcuts in other programs) 2. if using quickmask, the brush color must be set to „white“ to remove desired areas in the red „invertmask". but if i set the brush color to „black“ his functionality is opposite - like an eraser. thats very cool - so i dont need to set the eraser size seperately - only switch from white to black. but it is a bug or a feature? (i have not seen that in the tutorials) 3. is there a shortcut in quickmask (like „alt“) to switch from „mask“ to „demask“ function? 4. there a many different brushes in aphoto but most as an „circle“. sometimes i wish there would be some brushes with „sharper“ forms to better paint ore refine masks. maybe like an „triangle“ that can be rotated and changed like desired to work better in sharp edges. 5. i wish the cropping tool would be have a "preview“ function for blend out the unselected (cropped) areas. maybe switchable in the colors black, white or (selectable) gray. so it would be better to estimate the cropping result bevor pressing the „apply“ button. (wysiwyg style) 6. a more consistently way to crop "lossless" - without loosing the cropped areas after pressing "apply". the crop tool could maybe be ask on pressing "apply" what to to: "crop finally - and loosing the cropped pixels" or "crop with mask - without losing the cropped pixels". 7. a better indication which tools will act "reversible" or in "finally". (parallel or serial processing) at the moment this distinction is "from where" the tool is selected - from the "layers" or the "filters" menu. and - to find a needed filter the user must be click around in different menus. i think ALL filter should be storaged in ONE place (one menu) with a special sign (or a submenu) if the filter is availble for act in parallel and/or serial processing. best regards, yummiweb
  2. This particular shortcut is a legacy thing from Photoshop. And it's a horrid shortcut, from an abhorrently shortsighted company when it comes to shortcuts and usability. AD’s Shortcuts need a rethink so they're actually... well.. SHORTCUTS! [command + J] requires taking the right hand off the mouse/trackpad (or leaving the screen/tablet with the stylus hand) in order to operate it. It is, therefore, no longer a shortcut, because the very first thing anyone is going to want to do with a duplicated object is to somehow transform it... 90% of the time with the mouse/trackpad/stylus. So if you persist with this ridiculous shortcut you make [command + C, V] into a MUCH faster (but lesser) operation than using the Duplicate function. See, that's ridiculous. [command + D] is the most logical option for a Duplicate function. 'D' fits nicely, also, into the holy triumphant of standardised cut/copy/paste [command + (X & C & V)] as it sits above and in the gap between X&C. // I know, you're going to suggest that should be used for Deselect, I'd strongly suggest there's no need for a Deselect shortcut key beyond using Escape, especially when that's already serving that purpose. Which brings up the disparity between the Help file’s information on Shortcuts and the actual shortcuts. [shift + command + D] is listed as the shortcut for Deselect. It’s not, it’s just [command + D], pressing the suggested [shift + command + D] shortcut results in an error beep, and no action.
  3. There is a super cool feature with Pixel Tool that allows you to paint with "alpha" keeping the same tool preset. If you press CMD while painting, you can easily erase keeping the same appearance: texture, nozzle, jitters,etc... Is it possible to extend this feature to Paintbrush and Paint Mixer too?
  4. Hi, I'm a long time photoshop user, I try to get rid of it... I tried to do some heavy edit and find myself stucked a few times: 1. After I select pixels I want to fill all of them with the foreground or the background color: how do you do that? Is there a shortcut? 2. How to quickly swap foreground and background color? A shortcut somewhere? 3. Is there a way to "apply" a channel to a layer ? Without that I guess I will stay on photoshop :( 4. How do you quickly change brush size ? Or change the shortcuts ?
  5. Hey forum, I downloaded the app and I worked the last days with it - everything worked well after a short time of changing the system, but I miss some details/options? Maybe I have not found them yet, or they are not existing, yet.? 1. I cannot change my brush size per keyboard? [ ] (the shortcut for that alt + 5 or alt 6) works well in text, word or safari, but not in affinity? I haven't found a option to change the short keys or an overview regarding the other existing shortcuts? (german version of Aff. Photo and german keyboard) 2. I would really like to copy the effects on Layers - for example the Shadows or what would be great the light also :) Thank you very much for the help an best regards !! Ost
  6. Hi guys, how can i change the brush size from the pencil e.g. with a shortcut on a german keyboard??
  7. There are any shortcuts for brushes available? I want to change witdth, flow, opacity and hardness without moving to the top toolbar. best wishes Marco
  8. hi folks, i know customizable keyboardshortcuts are on the roadmap ... i am looking forward to it! as a german designer, on my keyboard producing the shortcout "APPLE - ALT - SHIFT - ]" to bring an object to the front (or back, don't remember), simply is not useable, because my keyboard-layout has hidden the "]" behind the combination ALT + 6 and so on. i hope that affinity puts a german/french/spanish ... native to create the necessary shortcutsets, when they are far enough with the development. ... otherwise, i offer my services for free, of course. but until then you can use the VERY HELPFUL app "a better touch tool" to trigger AD-commands and convert them to something more suitable ... or vice versa: trigger your custom commands, when you use AD an convert them to AD-commands. a better touch tool helped me a lot with AIs half-working keyboard-shortcut-customization. cheers ... flo http://www.bettertouchtool.net
  9. I know of the shortcut to "Fill" and then chose a color from there, I think there should be one for filling with foreground and background to work faster with masking
  10. Hello, I'm actually using Affinity Designer Beta 1.1.2.23074 and I have a huge problem: apparently any shortcut that I have tried that involve the use of the square brackets ("[", "]") doesn't work for me. I cannot resize a stroke and I cannot move a selection to front or to the back. I can however select from the the dropdown menu the corresponding items and do these operations, but it's at least 10 times slower than by using the proper shortcut and for this reason very annoying. On the official 1.1.2 I can move objects between layers but I can't manage to change the brush size. Could this be caused because I'm using a MacBook Pro with an Italian keyboard? I don't have on my keyboard two keys for the square brackets, instead I have two different keys ("è" and "+"), and in order to write brackets I have to press "command" + "è" and "command" + "+". In the past I had the same problem with Photoshop since I was unable to move between layers because Adobe used the same keys and like Affinity Designer, that particular shortcut wasn't customizable. This is a GIF with the layout of the keys on my keyboard: http://support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECARE_ALLGEOS/HT2841/Italian.gif Could you help me, this is really a showstopper for me.
  11. This is a small request, but in working with many precise values, I'm very used to using shortcuts for Select All, Copy, and Paste in the transform tool panel to paste in values, instead of having to precisely click in a field and type a value, or to delete a few characters, type and hit enter again. A small thing, but when done repeatedly it greatly speeds up working with objects.
  12. … a shortcut, tool and lexicon cheat sheet. Take this table of Illustrator's tools and shortcuts, and add three columns to the far right: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/default-keyboard-shortcuts.html The Three Columns: AD Shortcut, AD name (lexicon) & icon, Commentary from AD team. For everything that’s not yet in AD, simply say “No current equivalent” or words to that effect. For anything that's expanded upon in AD, use that commentary column to add links to further information on how things are better in AD. For anything that's on the roadmap, put it a link to the roadmap in the commentary column. For anything that's being considered, put a similar comment in the commentary column. Also use commentary column to link to the pertinent parts of any AD documentation on any specific tools/features that might need more explaining due to differences, improvements, limitations, etc. Do the same for Freehand and CorelDraw, and definitely for Sketch too, as folks using that need to realise there's something better ;) Anyone in the community (this forum) good at laying at adding columns to tables and entering text all day and night? Perhaps, in the initial stages, use a google docs shareable file so that everyone can slowly add to it, so the devs can focus on developing and the users can assist users in using.
  13. For absolutely everything. And the ability to save them to a file, so can then import them into another machine. kthnxbye
  14. Isn't it possible to use your own keyboard shortcuts in Affinity? I for one like to use keyboard shortcuts for brushing while increasing/decreasing brushes, opacity, and softness/hardness. Ideal and heavily depending for painting of any kind. Opening panels and extra adjusting via sliders is kind of contra productive. Adobe has a panel to adjust all this. This is kind of the first thing I do after a clean install because of it's massive time saving. Shortcut users know what I mean...
  15. Hello All, I have a drastic need for hotkeys (shortcuts). I need a hotkey switcher from Draw Persona and Export Persona. The amount of time wasted having to move from one end of the screen to the other (especially on a 27" iMac and Wacom Tablet) so I can switch between Layers in drawing Persona and then switch back to Export Persona. If you could give us the "Q" key command to switch between all three Personas — that would be great. More key shortcuts please. That would help and customisable also… Regards, Titus Tears
  16. Over the years I have developed the habit of hitting the tool shortcut key before starting an operation. Just so I don't have to undo what I didn't want done in the first place. But in AD I first have to check to see which tool is active because if the selected tool is active it then changes to the tool used previously. Why would anyone want this? Do some users actually think about what tool was used previously and then make the conscious decision that they can get to the pen tool by hitting an A? 9 times out of 10 I couldn't tell you what tool I used previously. If I want to switch back from the node tool to the pen tool I can hit a P instead of an A. Is a P harder to hit than an A? Would anyone really want to use the A instead of a P? Is it really a shortcut key if you have to always check to see which tool is active before hitting it? I might as well just use the tool panel to select tools. Can we at least have a preference to do away with this? So the only tool we can get with an A is the node tool? Isn't that really what a shortcut key is for? Can you tell I find this very annoying?
  17. hi, Affinity Designer Team. Im Madder Merlin. I am not good at English, but will participate in the forum using the Google Translate. I want to assign a shortcut to the paint brush and eraser of pixel persona. Paint function of Affinity Designer is great, but I believe that convenience is missing. And, since want to do more instantly brush size and brush opacity, shortcut want also to these functions. This is one of the idea, I think it a great to be able to adjust the drag while pressing a particular key. Please consideration. thanks for reading.
  18. This video is for the newbies All you veterans need not watch this video unless you want too of course :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae7VVrCKNog In this video I will take a moment to explain how shortcuts in Affinity Designer 1.1.2 can improve your creative workflow, make you a more efficient Artist/ Designer while helping you create art faster. For a Affinity Designer Shortcut cheat sheet please visit the following link: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/3333-cheatsheet/?hl=cheatsheet Don’t forget to tell the user 10on12 thank you for his hard work!
  19. Being a typography junkie, i'm often switching to the type tools. Trouble is I usually end up with the one I DON'T want - mostly the Type Art Tool. when I want the Text Box. The simple answer is to set modifier keys for alternative tools - so "T" might be Text Box, and "Shift-T" = Text-Art - or vis a versa… And similar for the other non-type tool variations. This one should be a snap for the next release, without distracting from the serious stuff like multi artboards. TIA!
  20. Please implement the standard Adobe keyboard shortcuts for handling current foreground and background colors... I rely on these ALL the time to quickly adjust colors. Great app! x = select fill or stroke color (currently done by clicking on either fill color or stroke color icons on the "Colour" palette. X = swap fill and stroke / line color (currently done by clicking on the little "swap" arrow in the "Colour" palette. d = set stroke and fill colors to defaults (black for stroke, white for fill) / = set current color (stroke or fill) to None
  21. As a workflow thing it would be nice to be able to define my own shortcut keys for tools etc. Perhaps something in the preferences menu so it's out of the way once set
