Please could the Preferences search box also search the Keyboard Shortcuts? At present if I am trying to find an action to check / alter the Keyboard Shortcut I have to know where that shortcut resides. If I don't (and I may not even know whether a shortcut can be assigned to a given action) then I have to trawl through the whole list. Even better - filter the shortcuts by the search term to remove all the options that I don't want to see. Case in point: I'd like to find whether I can assign a shortcut to Show Rotation Centre, and have gone cross eyed looking for the option! Thanks.

Tried searching and did not see this subject come up. In V2 of Designer for Mac, I am attempting to use the New Layer shortcut, however the listed shortcut COMMAND+OPTION+N opens a new document instead of creating a new layer. I can't see that there is another shortcut in the File menu nor in the MACOS System Prefs>Keyboard... Anyone else resolve this WITHOUT changing the New Layer shortcut in Designer 2? 2019 MacBook Pro \ MacOs 13.0.1

Please introduce a spacebar to zoom option in Affinity apps, it is much more accessible. For people who have acces to a three (or more button) mouse and/ or a pen tablet with remappable buttons, it would be neat to set zooming to Spacebar. I don't like the Ctrl+Spacebar zoom, especially since you need to press Ctrl first. However, with the aforementioned input devices, it is fair to assume users can leverage a middle mouse button to pan their view. I for one never use spacebar for panning at all. Whereas in Krita, I am able to opt to zooming by pressing just the spacebar and click dragging my pen. Anyone who wants a simplified zooming experience should be able to configure this, whereas those without such devices can still use the existing navigation methods.

Zoom-in shortcut should be ⌘= rather than ⌘+. It's Ctrl = on Windows. why it's different on Mac? Though ⌘= works with the US keyboard, it does not work with the JIS(Japanese) keyboard. On JIS Keyboard, - "=" is on the same key with "-." - "+" is on the same key with ";." The result is: - ⌘= does not work. - ⌘+(⌘⇧;) conflicts with the spell check.

The option to adjust Brush Size to be Alt + Right Click like it is in Photoshop. I've seen posts since V1 requesting this and I'm surprised this hasn't been added yet. Affinity's current combo of Ctrl + Alt + Left Click just feels really clunky and unnecessarily complicated. I've used Affinity for years now and it still feels odd. Giving us that option to change it in Preferences > Shortcuts menu would be great! Especially with new users switching to V2 from Photoshop would help ease them in better. Loving V2 so far! Keep it up Serif!

I think the default shortcut for the Convert to Curve(Ctrl/CMD Return) is problematic. Many people accidentally do that while editing text and don't notice until later. I saw multiple complains on social media. Though it can be changed in the Preferences, the default shortcut need to be reconsidered.

I read that the windows shortcut for brush size and hardness are holding Alt + Right Mouse Button and then dragging left/right or up/down. However this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello Affinity Designer community! I have been searching through the already asked questions and I couldn't find my answer so I am posting it here. I am looking for a way to change, or better yet, delete a shortcut for the Rotate View feature. I am on a Mac and the shortcut is ⌘ + Scroll Wheel Up or Scroll Wheel Down (Command + ...) and I am assuming for Windows it's the Windows key. Because it's next to the Zoom shortcut (Option key + Scroll Wheel) I keep messing up my view and I would like to know if there is a way to remove that shortcut. I have looked through the Shortcuts section in the Preferences tab but I couldn't find it. And in general, I couldn't find the shortcut that involve the scroll wheel. Could someone help me out please? Thank you kindly, Robert Reynik

Note: The following issue applies specifically to a German ISO keyboard layout (and maybe only the German version of Publisher). In Publisher, the key command for “select next” is ⌥ ⌘ ] and for “select previous” it’s ⌥ ⌘ [ For “move one forward” (or whatever the phrase may be in English) it’s ⌘ ] and “move one backward” it’s ⌘ [ Now here’s the catch: on a German keyboard, [ is typed as ⌥ 5 and ] is ⌥ 6. So, in order to type ⌥ ⌘ ] I’d have to type ⌥ ⌘ ⌥ 6 which obviously can’t work. Effectively, the “select next/previous” shortcuts work, the “move one forward/backward” shortcuts don’t.

Hello Team Hello Everyone Yes it has been long time since i wrote here, but today i realized while working on a project that i didn't knew how to Break a text into words/lines. I went to help file and found a quick how to ... but realized then when I break text into words or line using Shift+Return, it all become curves and non editable anymore. Is there a way to do that operation without changing the nature of text/object and keep editing it ? your help is welcome. Blessings

When working in the Layers panel, I would love to be able to use the keyboard for certain operations like moving up and down in the layer tree with arrow key selecting layers by typing their names renaming a layer by hitting F2 moving layers up and down by hitting Ctrl+Up / Ctrl+Down (or Alt, maybe in combination with Shift) selecting layers by holding down the Shift key and using the arrow keys afterwards There might be more useful appliances for keyboard shortcuts.

Hi, Wondering if I can assign a keyboard shortcut on "Mask to Below" in the layer menu. Or can I assign shortcuts for the items in the layer menu? Thanks! CY

Hi there! One Affinity photo feature that is dearly missing for me is a keyboard shortcut to increase and decrease opacity of the currently selected layer. I would need this, so I could map this shortcut to a MIDI controller and be able to quickly set a layer's opacity with said controller. Since there is an ever increasing number of people who use MIDI controllers as quick input devices for the graphic softwares, I believe I am far from the only one who would benefit from such a feature. Currently there is only the possibilty to use the up/down arrow keys (+ shift optionally) to increase and decrease the opacity once I have set the focus to the opacity field. This does not really help me all that much as I would always need to focus this field first, before i can start to change the opacity. It would be great if there could be a global shortcut for this as well, preferrably also with the possibilty to use shift optionally to increase the increments to 10. I would not care if it is an obscure shortcut or if it is even turned off by default, as soon as there is any shortcut for this MIDI users could make use of this and map it to their controllers. Thanks! trych

There are a few threads about kind of similar issues but not exactly like this so i start a new topic, hope that’s ok. I switched from iMac to iPad Pro 12.9”. I store and sort my raw files in Apple Photos and iCloud and I use Affinity Photo For iPad for editing. I want to be able to select an image in Apple Photos and from there open it in Affinity. I found several helpful ways to creating a shortcut here in the forum. The problem is that it’s not working for me. When I click on “Affinity” (which is the name I gave the shortcut) nothing happens. But, and this is where it gets interesting, one single image in my Apple library opens in Affinity as it should. The image that works is originally a raw file from Apple Photos that I opened in Affinity, edited, saved as a JPEG in the iPad Files folder and then saved it back to Apple Photos. That’s the only one that will open when I use the shortcuts. The other JPEGs, PNGs and raw files won’t open. i attached photos of my shortcut settings and the Affinity shortcut in the share sheet. Anyone knows what might be the problem?

Hi there, maybe I'm just blind, but I'm missing shortcut to jump to the next or previous brush in the brushes studio (suggestion: , and .). I'm also missing simple keyboard shortcuts for decreasing and increasing the brush hardness like the shortcuts [ and ] for the brush size. My suggestion would be Shift+[ and Shift+]. Greetz, Tekl

In Preferences/Keyboard shortcuts in all Affinity apps there is 'Ignore Modifier' checkbox. What does it actually do? Help documentation defines it: Ignore Modifier—Lets you create shortcuts using a single letter designation instead of using keyboard modifiers. A mystery. So, I tried to discern it's effect on one of the commands. In orange are marked results I find unexpected. With 'Ignore Modifier' ON 'P' is assigned as 'P'. (that is uppercase 'P'; why unexpected? Please see the reference below to @walt.farrell's experiment), 'shift+P' is assigned as '⇧P' (again, refer to Mr. Walt's experiment; furhermore, here, 'shift' is not considered a modifier?), '⌘+P' is assigned as 'P' (I guess ⌘ is ignored somehow, but to what purpose?), 'alt+P' is assigned as 'π' (I guess 'alt' is ignored, resulting in conventional π), 'ctrl+P' is assigned as empty (!) but with an option to remove it. (see image below, is this normal?). With 'Ignore Modifier' OFF 'P' is assigned as 'P'. (I understand this is something 'Ignore Modifier' should make possible but here it is, working fine with 'Ignore Modifier' OFF), 'shift+P' is assigned as '⇧P', '⌘+P' is assigned as '⌘P', 'alt+P' is assigned as '⌥P', 'ctrl+P' is assigned as '⌃P'. 'Fn' key is skipped here since I own Logitech keyboard, not Apple. Now, referring to Mr. @walt.farrell 's experiment where pressing key labelled 'P' with 'Ignore Modifier' ON assigns 'p' (lowercase P), while 'shift+P' assigns 'P' (uppercase P): In all things 'Affinity' I trust Mr. Walt first... So, is it possible that my shortcuts preferences file is borked? Or is there a finer idea underpinning 'Ignore Modifier' checkbox that my measly braincells fail to grasp? Am I alone in this?

Er, I think the Subject says it! I'd love a Modifier-drag way to change any brush width – vector stroke, _or_ pixel size when in Pixel Persona. But in the short term, I'd be happy if [ and ] grew and shrunk the stroke size – of the current pen/pencil/vector brush, if one of those are selected; or of the selected curve, if the node tool's selected. Thanks for considering this! - pbass

Observation In Affinity Designer there are multiple input options using the modifier key for shapes, these include: Holding shift to constrain to proportions (square, circle) Holding ctrl to scale the shape from the centre out Hold alt to ignore snapping Hold spacebar to move the shape (this is not in the tool description at the bottom of the window though). Shape and selection feature parity.mp4 Expectation However, in Designer, I may expect this to work for selection tools as well, whereas it currently does not. As you can see from the video, while using the same sequence of actions, there are things I expect to be able to do from using the shapes tool, that I cannot replicate with selection tools. Proposal My proposal for how it ought to behave is listed in italics below the observation of actual behaviour. Shift does constrain proportions (square, circle) This decision means you cannot use shift to add to a selection. In Photoshop, holding shift allows you to do both, first you hold shift to add to a selection (mitigating the need to reach to the toolbar for this) and after the initial click, you can release or press shift again to constrain the shape if needed. Shift constrain selection.mp4 Ctrl does not scale from the centre > it moves the selection with ctrl + LMB However, upon the initial creation of the selection window, with the selection drawn out, I don't see a reason why holding ctrl afterwards would not constrain the selection to be created from the centre. Alt does not ignore snapping > it subtracts from the selection (which is perfectly fine the way it is) Spacebar does not move the selection that is currently created This should be added to make more refined selections possible and to ensure continuity between the tools.

is topic is all about keyboard shortcuts and the ability to use the software through custom keyboard shortcut functionality. With these suggestions I aim to reduce mouse movement and leverage the keyboard to alleviate muscle tension. Custom Shortcut to delete objects (for vectors), layers (including content and pixel layers. Perhaps, some may prefer there being separate options to delete vector objects, layers and pixel layers, though this proposal this particularly concerns deleting whatever is highlighted in the layers panel. Shortcuts to navigate through the layers panel by selecting the layer or object above or below. Illustration of 1, 2 using Krita, notice that I didn't need to move the mouse for this: F2 to rename layers/ objects (this is as though you clicked to rename the layer). Delete pixel layer content Illustration of 3 & 4 using Krita, notice I first deleted the layer, then undid this to show that you can delete the contents of the layer while keeping its location within the layers panel intact, as well as its name, the clear pixel layer content function circumvents the multi-step procedure of ctrl+a > delete > ctrl+d by enabling this operation with a single button press (e.g. delete, whereas backspace deletes the layer, but this should be user configurable). Delete pixel layer content and rename layer.mp4 Add new layer with a rename dialog pop-up (this is the default ctrl+shift+n command in Photoshop), which resolves the two step process of creating a layer and renaming it. Currently, you can configure shortcuts to switch between studio presets, however, I think it is just as valuable to be able to toggle between two different studio presets using a single keyboard shortcut. I use a one or two column setup and it would be nice if I could toggle between the presets I desire (e.g. to switch between studio preset 1 and 2 and back to 1, just like tab toggles hiding the interface) with a single shortcut. Ideally, you should be able to assign a given studio preset to either end of the toggle in the presets. Additionally, the name of the preset should be represented in the keyboard shortcuts section. So, basically, the name of the first studio preset in the list becomes the new name for "Studio Preset 1" in the keyboard shortcuts section and the second becomes the name for "Studio Preset 2". In other words, a list of studio presets with 1. Lineart, 2. Logo design, is listed similarly in the keyboard shortcuts as opposed to the current generic naming scheme. A change brush size shortcut (as replacement for Ctrl+Alt+LMB drag, pressing down two modifiers is quite demanding, Krita and Blender allow for assigning a alphanumerical key for this reason instead of a modifier key. It works as follows: press and release the shortcut key, then drag to the new settings (position) to confirm or, hover and click to confirm. The latter reduces muscle tension by quite a lot. In this case, it could still be multi-axis (left-right for strength, up-down for hardness or opacity). Also note, showing that showing the previous brush radius helps to indicate whether the new size is appropriate or not. Brush widget.mp4 Krita has a pop-up for the colour selector, which negates the need to the mouse/ pen to a studio panel, it is invoked with a hotkey. Krita also has a colour history pop-up, which shows the colours that were last used and is invoked with a hotkey. Though this could very well be paired with the colour selector pop-up. These two pop-ups are illustrated below: Colour selector and colour history pop-up.mp4 A shortcuts to activate the brush stabiliser (which should remember the last mode and length setting per mode), but perhaps people would also like direct control for either mode through keyboard shortcuts. Similarly, there's no shortcut to activate symmetry shortcut for brush strokes. The numeric shortcuts to set opacity to 10, 20, 30 ... 100% opacity interfere with my ability to set shortcuts to the numeric keys, therefore, these should be listed in the Keyboard shortcuts section so they can be disabled at will in favour for other shortcuts (i.e. changing personas with 1, 2, 3, etc. (also taking Affinity Photo into account where you have more personas). Instead, there could be an option to change settings for opacity and hardness by pressing a shortcut key, after which the cursor moves to the value box for the associated option (much like the F2 rename proposal). See discussion here: A configurable mouse & keyboard shortcut to rotate the canvas non-incrementally. This is different from the alt+mousewheel functionality, since pen tablets don't have access to this. Instead, this funtionality should be a combination of mouse/ pen input and a shortcut or modifier keys (not excluding spacebar) to invoke the command. For instance, spacebar + mmb drag is one of the combinations that comes to mind (or shift/ alt + mmb drag). Illustrator has shortcuts , . / for fill, gradient fill and no fill (or stroke depending on the context), from these I miss the gradient and regular fill shortcut. For cloning objects, I don't understand the reason for using both Ctrl and Alt, I am aware that control enables snapping and alt disables it, but for me personally, I would prefer to use Alt and toggle snapping manually (using a custom shortcut assignment), the reason for this is explained in 16. For the sake of muscle memory and working with various software packages, it would be great if the selection keys could be assigned manually. Currently, Shift is used to toggle selection, while Ctrl cannot be used. Instead, by using just Alt for cloning, Ctrl could be used to add to selections, meaning that if I hover over multiple nodes, the ones that are already selected won't be deselected. Similarly, instead of toggling selection, Shift could be used to remove from selections. The combination of these two creates a very consistent selection workflow. Though some software switch the Ctrl and Shift behaviour around, so therefore it is best to let the user decide which one does what (and maybe they prefer Ctrl constrained cloning in conjunction with Shift toggle, but that's currently not a decision that can be made. See 3. below. For scaling objects, Adobe uses alt to constrain the transform to both directions and shift + alt to scale from the centre. This should also be an option in Affinity to aid muscle memory. There is no scale tool, as in, there is no shortcut to open a pop-up to get to a bunch of value boxes where scale values can be typed and committed to with enter. As it stands, I seem to need to open the transform panel, hover the mouse to the width and height dimensions and type in the size followed by a percentage sign, which could be reduced with a dedicated scale dialog pop-up. Increase potential for keyboard shortcuts Differentiate between numeric keys and the numpad for additional keyboard shortcut options Modifier keys should be allowed to activate a tool Customise keyboard + mouse behaviour as you can other software like Blender and Krita. This would allow for specifying a combination of keypresses and mousekeys (click/ click drag) to invoke a command. Similar to the default fluent zooming with ctrl+spacebar, users should be able to specify the way they want to zoom, access GUIs and rotate the canvas. For canvas rotation, this could entail setting hotkeys of preference from any 3D package to navigate in 3D (e.g. alt+MMB, shift + MMB) to rotate the canvas fluently (non-incrementally).See: Adding multiple keyboard shortcuts to commands would also be welcome (as in having a plus icon to add a second keystring to invoke a command). For instance, ctrl+] moves an object forward and ctrl+shift+] moves it to the front. However, some keyboards have dedicated PgUp, PgDown, Home, End of a numeric portion to which these functions could be assigned. This allows for retaining 'industry standard' shortcuts, while enabling single button shortcuts as well. This is vital for companies where everyone uses the same keyboard shortcut scheme, so everyone can work on every PC or enable collegues to not freak out from different keyboard shortcuts, while it also creates room for certain customisability. This is what I mean, illustrated in PureRef, where you can click on the + sign to add additional entries (once they are there, you can hit the - sign to remove them). Also, feel free to add other missing ones in this thread, so they can be consolidated here.
