  1. Hi, Greetings, I'm a new user, and just learning AD. (I've used other vector drawing programs in the past). First question: Tutorial says that shear arrows will appear if I hover over the side nodes of an object boundng box. I don't find this. I get horizontal arrows that allow scaling the object in one dimension. I can't get shear arrows to appear. Shearing works normally from the Transform panel. Is there a setting for this? Or was it removed from this version of AD? I'm on MacOS, AD 1.10.5 Thanks! L&R
  2. Since there aren't any text wrap features in Designer (are there?) I have a rectangle that I sheared into a parallelogram to flow some text into so it'll have a left margin with an acute angle. I copy my text and click in the parallelogram using the Frame Text Tool and paste it in. That works but the posted text has taken on the same shear angle as the rectangle has. So I delete the text and convert the parallelogram to curves and paste the text again; same result: the text has the original shear angle and I notice that the rotate gizmo at the top of the selected shape also has the shear angle. The question is: after using the transform settings to adjust a shape, how can I place text into it where the text will not inherit any of the shape's distortions? This is also the case where I wish Designer had text wrap tools; I started the project in Designer and had to change it to a design that included skewed text boxes instead of straight ones. Publisher doesn't have the illustration tools I need so it's not worth trying to rebuild the design in Publisher just to get a wrap tool for a few text boxes. I thought the Frame Text Tool would be a good stand-in but it only seems to work correctly if the text frames remain simple rectangles. Any ideas?
  3. When using Filter > Distort > Shear, I can move the nodes by dragging or using the arrow keys. However, it would be good if I could enter formulae to describe how a node moves. For many purposes, this would be much more convenient than using Filter > Distort> Equations (which can do the trick). I have reported in the Bugs forum that moving the nodes with the arrow keys has a bug. Thanks to @MxHeppa who raised this problem in my thread on Warping Test onto a Wave. John
  4. I have been looking at using Filter > Distort > Shear to create wave effect. I can click on the vertical and horizontal lines to create nodes and drag them left, right up or down with the mouse. It works OK except that it does seem rather sensitive. I then tried using the up, down, left and right keys to move nodes and I found that this works fine on the horizontal shear (right-hand graph), but not the vertical shear (left-hand graph). In the vertical shear, the up key moves the line to the left, and the down key moves it to the right. The left key moved the node up along the line, and the right key moves it down along the line. In the horizontal shear graph, the keys move the nodes in the expected direction (strictly horizontally or vertically). John
  5. Hi, I'm having an issue scaling the width of some grouped objects that I hope someone has a solution for. When changing the width(of grouped objects) with the "Move Tool [V]" and the center width handles, the sheared angle changes so I cannot realign it to another object it is joined to. However when I shear a rectangle shape using the "Rectangle Tool" and then scale the width with the "Move Tool [V]" and the center width handles it keeps the correct shear angle. Surly there is a way to keep the original angle but change the width only. The angles stay correct when scaling both height and width using the "Ctrl"key(windows) but I only want to change the width not the height too. Does anyone have an answer to this? Example image attached.
  6. Hello, I would like to know how to do that (see video attached) on the iPad. I'm sure I did it a couple of times, but randomly, and I can't find how to do it on purpose. Thanks for your help! Screen_Recording_2019-11-19_at_12_50_33.mov
  7. When I have a layer selected I can use CTRL+Drag (in Windows, or whatever it is in OS X) to clone it, and that’s great. But, when I rotate or shear a layer, I cannot also clone it by using CTRL+Drag. I have to make a duplicate and then rotate/shear that. That’s not too much hassle but I think it might be nice to be able to clone a layer while rotating or shearing. Does anyone have a reason why this is a silly idea? If there’s a specific reason why it shouldn’t be done, or there’s some better functionality that could come in the future that could better use this modifier key, then I’m happy to drop this line of enquiry. Just thought I’d mention it.
  8. Hello everyone, I'm new to Affinity Designer and I hope someone can solve my problem: I have to keep a Corporate Design which says that rectangles must have an angle of 15° on two sites (shown in annex). How can I adjust the angle on forms with the knot tool? As far as I tried it I can only adjust the corners freely, but not with an explicit angle on the selected corner. Thank you for any advice. Greetings LiberalDesigner
  9. Hi guys, last question. I need to *skew a shape* to fit it on an image of an iPhone that has perspective. (BTW, this is not the same as using the two arrows, which I found - nor a problem with the concept of shear vs skew). This is the image I am working on. I need to pull the top right corner of the cover image to go on the iPhone down, and the bottom right corner of the cover image up so you have proper perspective. I've searched help, and checked out a lot of videos. If you can help then this is cool. RJ
  10. Hi Developers of Affinity, While using your latest windows beta 1.6.0.87 of your lovely Affinity Designer I noticed following odd behavior. 1) If you create rectangle 2) Shear it with transform tool 3) Apply Gradient Overlay layer FX 4) Set the angle 270 degrees (or zero) The gradient will rotate based on Shear not the layer fx degree value as one would expect. Is this feature or bug? Take Care!
  11. Hi! Please Add Decimal Places for Rotation, Shear and dpi resolution (number shown in top-left when Move tool is selected) It can be useful and in many cases and make program more precise;)
  12. Hey everyone, I'm quite new to Affinity Designer and have come across the following issue: I'm trying to fill different shapes with patterns. Since I haven't been able to find any preset geometric fill patterns that ship with Affinity, nor a pattern fill feature, I've resorted to: 1. Select the shape 2. Activate the Fill Tool 3. Change Fill Type to Bitmap 4. Use an image texture to fill the shape However, when I CTRL + C on one shape and then CTRL + SHIFT + V on another shape in order to copy that fill, with the same orientation and scale, it seems like the bitmap/texture then gets transformed to the orientation/size of the target shape. I attached a screenshot to demonstrate what happens when I copy the fill from the left shape to the right. How can I get the behaviour that I want, i.e. have the fill get transferred from shape A to shape B without changing the orientation/scale/shear of the fill texture? Also, is there a vector pattern fill in Affinity Designer that I may simply have overlooked? Thanks a lot
  13. Firstly, I wanted to take a moment to thank Serif and their programmers for making such a wonderful piece of software. I'm looking forward to one day eventually making the jump from Adobe but I thank you for giving me hope. I already purchased and strapped in for the ride as I know that you lot are going to accomplish amazing things. This is all just constructive criticism and feedback from someone who wants to be able to use your product in a regular and professional way. A feature you really need to put towards the top of the update pile is the Shear/Skew tool for text and objects. Shearing and Skewing fonts and objects are things I do a lot of when I'm working with Adobe Illustrator. It's not a matter of "if" I use it because I always end up using it to some degree at one point or another when I'm working on different projects. For those who might not know the tool by name but know it in function. Shearing/Skewing Shapes Tutorial Shearing/Skewing Fonts Tutorial This is a type of feature I would need to have included in the Affinity package if I were to ever make the jump from Adobe. The tool is simply too valuable for me as a designer. This being said, Affinity DOES include a transform menu (props where earned) within their software which gives you slight adjustment to what objects and font you're working with. The problem is it simply does not work in a way which is smooth and freeform like it exists in Illustrator. I cannot use transform in the same way I can use Shear or Warp. I've included the above links to give the programmers and the other members of the community the level of functionality I am looking for with regards to a Shear/Skew tool for the Affinity Designer. I would hope this is something which is actively being pursued as it's certainly something that would be essential. Thank you in advance for reading my thoughts and concerns and I wish you all success. All The Best, -Copernicus
  14. When applying shear manually, the shift key doesn't do anything. I think the shift key should constraint the shearing process in 5 deg. increments the same as when rotating any object. What do other people think? Regards
  15. Do you have other ways to do somethings 3ds like the screenshot that I see shear and rotate at 0 degree? or I'm misled about this. There're hidden features or It's just a mock-up.
