  1. I've been able to change the shortcut for the Rectangle, Ellipse, and Rounded-Rectangle Tools, but I don't see a listing for the Tool that includes the rest of the shapes (triangle, arrow, etc.). I noticed that, when hovering over that tool before I changed things, the "Shapes" Tool displayed the M shortcut--same as the Rectangle Tool. After changing the Rectangle to R, no shortcut is listed on the Shapes Tool, so it must have been "removed" somewhere. Does anyone know how to access the shortcut entry field for it? I couldn't find anything related under the Draw/Tools list in the Keyboard Shortcuts section of Preferences.
  2. Hi all - This may appear as a complete 'nob head' question but I am hiding behind the excuse of being new to Affinity... Question: How to center text both center and middle in a shape? I have a number of squares, each generated with the corresponding shape tool, and want to put a block of text in each, each possibly of a different lenght. Irrespective their character number, each text block should become positioned exactly in their square's center. I've run past the text tutorials - each of which are excellent - but couldn't find the answer I am looking for. Could anyone help me out here?
  3. Hi Folks, Been a while since I've been on here! Anyway I'm after help yet again. So I'm putting together a logo design for a friend and the design is a full circle with a smaller circle within the outer. However, the inner circle needs to be broken at the bottom... I have attached a couple of rough sketch's that I have done so that you get the idea what I am talking about. Basically what is the best way to create the break in the inner circle? Confused? you will be   Cheers in advance, because I know you lot will know the answer ;) Mark Logo sketch.pdf
  4. I'm new to affinity, trying it out to see if I like it. But I'm struggling here.... How do you delete or erase part of a line segment in a shape? I have two overlapping shapes, and I want to make them into one and delete the overlap. I rasterized the shape, but is there a way to un-rasterize it in its new form? Or is there a way to get a cleaner cut from a line segment with out it being pixelated in the first place?
  5. I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm new to Designer and I have been watching the tutorials to get help, but now I"m stuck. I watched the tutorial about "power duplicate" and in the tutorial when he creates another star shape, in the layers you can see that the star shape is in the same layer as the original star. When I create a copy of my star shape Designer is creating the star shape in a brand new layer instead of in the same layer. Instead of having multiple stars in the same layer like in the tutorial I have multiple layers of one star. Is there a setting I'm missing? Can someone assist me? HELP!
  6. Hello there! :) I have a really strange issue with my Affinity Designer. Maybe I unconsciously pushed some wrong buttons before, but when I click any object, it gets this weird pink-ish outline coming from nowhere. See the attached file. The huge green shape actually is drawn as the pink outline shows, but the Corner Tool is applied so it doesn't match in corners. Also the odd happens to text, you can see on the left only the first letter gets the outline. I should also add that it is only a viewer issue, Designer doesn't create an actual object/shape and the outline doesn't show in exports. Plus I tested and it seems to be app-oriented stuff as it happens to all documents I open and then select an object. Thanks for any input on this. I've tried going through the View menu and Preferences, but couldn't solve it on my own. Regards, Radek
  7. Hey all! I am having a problem with a shuriken I designed. I made a star and omitted sections by masking with other shapes. The only problem is that the whole outline is rendered with the image when I try to export. How can I be rid of those lines so that only the shuriken is rendered, not the whole star in outline form?
  8. Hi, everyone! As I haven't found any topic on this, so the decision was made to post a new one. I have one elliptical shape, which I want to be distributed along any free line at certain density. Something like the image below, only at much higher density, but just so you can understand my needs. Maybe just a simple vector brush would do? But I haven't figured out how to make one. — the shape actually mustn't rotate; needs to stay in its default orientaiton — I would prefer the shape to have an exact dimensions (set in milimeters) — variable density would be useful, but not necessary Is there a way to do this in Affinity Designer? I need this for typeface design :) Thank you.
  9. Hi everyone - I've been trying to solve this for a while now and can't. I'm sure it's obvious but...I've lost my special shapes. On my left hand dock, I have the rectangle through the triangle tools and below that the "A." I've used the special shapes (cog, star, etc.) before but now I can't find them. I lost a bunch of stuff today somehow (control panels, etc.) and got everything back except this. Can someone tell me how to restore or find these shapes? Thanks so much in advance! Katie
  10. Hi, Something strange happens when I want to get the selection of a shape on a rotated image. Here is the process : 1- Open an image 2- Rotate it (Document/Rotation 90°) 3- Draw a closed shape with the pen tool (P) 4- Create a selection by cliking the "selection" button in the pen tool options As you can see, the selection appear at the wrong place, as if it kept the old image coordinates (before the rotation). Thanks by advance to your answer. Note : It would be good to click on the "mask" button and having the possibility to invert the mask ... problem_rotation-shape-selection.mov
  11. Hi, I draw some strokes for a logo (look at the attached picture). I used strokes and changed the pressure to have different width along the line. The end of the stroke is round. I wanted to export my work in eps format to be able to print it ou use it with Illustrator... I saw in the eps file in illustrator that the round of my stokes became broken lines. Come back in AD, I decide to vectorise the stroke (layer menu). In french it's called "vectoriser le contour". And I obtain the same result : broken lines... Is it a normal behavior ? I also wonder why there are so many nodes (and no tools to simplify all those nodes). It's very difficult to change/adjust quickly the curve with so many useless nodes !! I hope my explanation is clear. Thank you.
  12. Hi guys, This is a workaround tutorial. I have summarized the findings of this discussion thread in a short video tutorial. It shows a way how to make a shape, how to assign a distortion filter, how to adjust the effect within the shape and how to make the effect movable around the picture. However, it also shows the limitations. It is currently not possible to directly associate a shape with a lens effect. Better would be: that we could assign a live filter directly to a shape, that the life filter is moving its position relative to the shape Possibly, the Affinity Photo team can comment it? Best regards Blauer Claus Tutorial Distortion Effect.mov
  13. Hola amigos, después de mi ausencia hoy les traigo una identidad corporativa utilizando affinity designer si me gusta mucho ese programa. les dejo una muestra del logotipo para conocer mas aplicaciones del logo, pueden entrar aquí : BEHK
  14. Hi there, there is something strange with "export to PSD", if I export a shape directly drawing in Designer, the shape remains vector shapes in PS, but if I work with a SVG in Designer and export it to PSD, the shape becomes a bitmap in PS. Why? What is wrong? Thank you (OS X 10.11.2 - AD 1.4)
  15. Do you have a plan to make this for multiple selecting shapes? It will make AD more powerful :).
  16. It would be super awesome if more was made of distorting shapes. At the moment if you hoover the mouse over the protruding centre line at the top of any shape and wait, you get a little icon which is two arrows pointing in either direction, you can click and drag this to skew the shape a little bit. But they you need to keep rotating the item then turning it a bit if you want to adjust it and it can be a bit of a pain. It would be great if there was a distortion menu which allowed you to just selected pre-made angles for which your shape could distort too, so for example isometric left, isometric right, 45 degrees etc.. and if then you can add advance alteration like changing the percentage of the skew and the manually pick the direction that would be perfect! Really awesome work on the software so far I use it everyday now!
  17. Wondering how to collapse/flatten these elements into separate standard vector shapes. I'm exporting them as separate .svg pieces for a 3D project but those curves/masks or whatever they are are causing issues. I can't Rasterize because I lose the vector nature of the layer. I didn't make the file, I was given an eps file which I brought into Designer to break out into .svg layer files. Still pretty new with Designer.
  18. Hi all, I want to - place a photo in a Designer doc; - put a bunch of vector shapes on top; - and use them to chop up the photo into those shapes. Is there a tutorial that would show the use of shapes as cookie cutters like that? Thanks in advance! - pbass
  19. Hi all, I am a new user of Affinity Design and a true beginner! I want to create a simple cone shape but I'm struggling to figure out how...I am literally trying to copy the shape below. Any tips would be appreciated :) Thanks guys! Reena
  20. Hey guys, I'm making an origami book, I want to make a vector line that show the guide to follow the instruction steps, but I want to make it has circle or other shape with loop instead of just normal bold vector line. How to I do it in Affinity Designer? If I want to make an shape different in the loop like 1 triangle shape after 5 circle shape, can I do it? Please let me know as soon as possible! I have been download the Affinity Designer trial to make my book, just started using it, still a bit aliens to it! If you like to help my book, you can help me by fund me at my fundraiser page to buy this app and Affinity Photo to make my book! 21. Can the shape transform and text transform controls be the same or similar at least? e.g. When selecting a corner point and moving mouse to change the shape/transform size etc: For shapes: Hold shift+cmd, move mouse = For Text: Hold Cmd, move mouse For shapes: Hold shift, move mouse = For Text: Hold nothing, move mouse So when I'm selecting an shape and fixing it, then a text, it gets a bit confusing sometimes. I accidentally use text transform protocol for shape transformation vice versa. It feels disorienting like getting used to working in one program or OS, then trying to do the same thing in another program or OS.
  22. Hi everyone, I'm new on Affinity Designer and I got a problem concerning the path type. ( I've already checked the instructions in the helped menu but that doesn't work for me ). I hope you'll understand me because I work on the french version so that the traduction of the tools may not be exact. Well here's my problem: First I create the curve that will define the curve of my text, then I use the text box tool and I click on the curve I've juste created in order to insert a text that follows the curve. The text insertion zone is in the rectangular zone that defines the curve but the text doesn't follow the curve !! The photo attached shows where my text insertion zone is and how my text appears when I try the make a path type Thank you so much if someone here can help me, I've tried everything and I'd be very grateful ! :) Antonin
  23. I created a simple document with 3 trapezoids (one big and two small). When I try to subtract the small ones from the large one, the angles of the subtracted trapezoids changes so that it takes out the wrong chunks. Trying to convert everything to curves beforehand does not seem to fix the problem. I'm not sure if the subtraction performs some extra calculation that it is suppose to that I just don't know about and perhaps I just need to approach this differently. Is this the case? Or am I doing something else wrong? Or is this some sort of bug? Attached are pictures showing before and after subtraction. Thanks for the time!
  24. Hi! AD was an awesome app and I already bought it yesterday, just hoping that you can add a feature like in Illustrator, the "Recolor Artwork" It's a very helpful and advance feature for us Designers aside from just adjusting using HSL or Recolor adjustment layer. :) And another one, a feature where you can drag the shape holding the space key while using shape tool. :) Last but not the least a "Color Guide" tab where the program gives you diff. shades, tints, values of colour you clicked with an option of Complementary, Analogous, etc. Take your time and more power to AD guys! :) Thanks!
  25. Playing around with some of the shape options. File attached AD Shapes .afdesign
