  1. Hi. I am trying to do this but on an ipad : I have seen another thread here about this but i just CANNOT get it to work. There really is nothing else that can make you feel like a complete idiot than trying to use PS/affinity. WHY oh WHY is everything so incredibly difficult to do? Its like you have to be a rocket scientist to change a car tyre, even the simplest stuff is completely impossible to figurer out. Hell - even when you guys tell the exact steps to do stuff i cant reproduce it.. So heres a challenge for you can you walk me through this on an Ipad.
  2. Hi, This is my first post and I'm a novice with Affinity Photo. I've watched all the tutorials to do with editing selections and layers, but can't seem to make the app do what I want it to. It's fairly simple and must be possible, I'm just not getting it! I have a .jpg that has been produced from a stacking program, Sequator. It contains 2 main elements, the foreground and the night sky, including the Milky Way. I want to blow the highlights and whites UP in the sky (without affecting the foreground) and reduce the highlights and whites DOWN in the foreground (without affecting the sky) - sounds simple, but I have spent hours trying to make it work and got nowhere! Please help!!
  3. Hello ! I really appreciate using Affinity Photo for making illustrations, however there is something that ruins its potential when coloring a lineart. Every other pixel editing softwares I tried (Photoshop, Krita) allows the user to extend the fill selection in order to spill the color to the middle of the lineart pen strokes (for instance). I've attached a sample of the fill results made in Photo and in Krita, along with Krita's fill settings. The color is a different layer below the lineart layer. This pretty basic feature would increase a lot the speed of coloring simple flat drawings. Thank you in advance.
  4. When I try to select a graphic element often times the Move tool selects items in the vicinity which are in front the desired element. In this example I have a red triangle which I am trying to select. There are three black lines in front of it. No matter where I click on the triangle I always select one of the lines. I haver tried to zoom in very close to make the selection but it didn't help. The work around is to either move the black line to the side or to the back. Both strategies are too time consuming.
  5. Although I have posted this under other topics before, but I think it should be a bug. When I wanted to use photo for image matting, I found some problems. I selected the part of an image that I wanted to keep, then I clicked on the mask button in the layers palette and moved the whole thing around a bit. I found some remnants of the original image on the edge of the image rectangle. I then realized that this was caused by placing the mask background in white and filling only the currently visible area with black. This is a problem not only for photo and Windows platforms, but also for design and the ios platforms.
  6. How can I transform a selection? In Adobe Photoshop the action was performed by creating a marquee selection and then hitting "Command-T" This would allow me to stretch an area thus removing an unwanted area. Thanks in advance!
  7. hello can some one tells me how can i add more than 1 selection with the pen tool ? thanks Desktop 2020.06.07 - 12.56.21.01.mp4
  8. I usually use paint.net for editing and am used to be able to refine a selection by dragging handles on the selection edge. I can't find a way to do this in AP. The only thing I see is the option to use the column selection, which is rather cumbersome. Is there something I overlooked or is that way of selecting not possible? Thanks!
  9. I can make a selection and then fill the selection using inpainting. This works as expected. If I make a selection, transform the selection and then use inpainting the result is not what I would expect, distorted. How can I transform just the selection so that when I fill the area there is no distortion? Maybe this very short (27 seconds) video will explain my problem better? https://www.dropbox.com/s/pcz8qn47ds3jmwv/select.mov?dl=0 Thanks!
  10. Hi all, When working with crazy amount of layers (PDF imported in this case) it is much faster to select the object in the canvas and not guessing which one is in the Layer list, but the problem comes when I select the object and I want to see where is that layer in the Layers panel, is there any shortcut or any other way to do this? I hope it makes sense. Cheers, Juan
  11. After using Affinity products professionally for quite some time and observing the development team’s patience and openness to new ideas on the forums, I have a few “unsexy” suggestions to enhancements to take the tedium out of repetitive tasks and keep designers organized. I am truly impressed with Affinity’s products. In gratitude for that, I am inspired to create this Wishlist with some new ideas, and to chime in with some support for the classic, already-suggested ones. Thanks for reading/listening! Most of these suggestions can span all the affinity desktop products some are Designer specific. 1. Organize Assets, Swatches, Brushes, Style Libraries with an edit mode, using an interface like the the "Presets Manager" in Shapes, to allow for re-arranging, renaming, moving between categories. 2. Stoke Pressure Profiles can be saved on an application level. Organize and manage, with an interface like the "Presets Manager" in Shapes. It’s all about efficiency, and not having to reinvent the wheel (stroke!) every time. 3. Layers Panel – Select objects and groups and rename them with a multi-rename tool. Instantly get organized so you and even other people can understand the layer groups and objects in your Affinity document. Interface would allow the user to add a numerical counter as a prefix or suffix when renaming. Handy before using Export Persona to create some basic naming conventions. 4. Sort Layer Groups or artboards in the Layers Panel alphabetically, ascending, descending. Yes, it will change the arrangement order, but properly organized groups can make complex file layers much easier to navigate. Handy for PDF Exporting where the order of pages depends upon the artboard order. 5. Save selection sets that can select items spanning multiple artboards and also within groups. Often similar objects need to be adjusted or moved, but they are on multiple artboards or nested in other functional groups. This can quickly solve that problem. 6. Select by object trait (stroke color, stroke thickness, fill colour). A handy way to quickly select and adjust objects with similar properties. Otherwise selecting these can be a nightmare in complicated projects. 7. Select and replace non global identical colours. Does your client want all the red elements blue? What would they look like in teal or taupe? Play rapidly to your heart’s content. 8. Search Assets Panel ACROSS BOTH categories and subcategories, results displayed as filtered choices. Do you have multiple categories/libraries and need to find the right icon fast? This can save you time. Currently a search has to be made within each asset category, which can take some time if you have multiple asset categories. 9. Handy Show Grid checkbox in Isometric Studio Panel. True, you can use a keyboard shortcut, but it would be nice if this button was upfront. Handy when you are working in Isometric view you have to turn on and off the grid to see the artwork uncluttered. Chances are you have the panel open to constantly switch planes anyways… I hope this helps to add votes for the unsexy underdog features. 😊
  12. I frequently have objects with different parents which should always transform together, for example I can have an Erase object which cuts a certain layer and reveals itself underneath, something like this (but generally much more complicated): They are separated so I can export the layers individually. It would be good if I could save a selection of objects (whose relative positions, rotations, and sizes should always be maintained), similar to how snapshots or symbols are created. Then if I want to move them all I can easily select them all, by selecting the selection group.
  13. Of course, I can do this by creating a mask with a black background and then making the selection white, but is it really necessary to go to all that trouble? I mean, it should be natural to set the mask background to black by default when doing this, just like photoshop did. Here are some screenshots of the problem.
  14. I've been a pretty sophisticated Photoshop user for ages and was happy to see most of the familiar functions, tasks and key commands I've been familiar with using all these years are mirrored in Affinity Photo. I was, however, baffled by one of the most basic functions in any photo editing app, namely making a selection and then copying and pasting it to a new layer. No matter how I've tried numerous ways of accomplishing this after first selecting a layer, creating a selection, alternately using either Cmd+C or the Edit Menu to copy it and then: 1) Creating a new layer, making it the active layer and using Cmd+V 2) Simply pressing Cmd+V with the current layer selected 3) Holding down the Option key and dragging the selected area... The ONLY result that consistently shows up being affected is the actual selection itself—NOT the content! Am I crazy?...what am I missing here?
  15. I'm used to using the "Magnetic Selection Tool" in Photoplus. I can't find it in Affinity Photo. What has it been replaced with?
  16. Hi folks, I am doing the exercises in the Affinity Photo Workbook and am doing the selection exercise. When i selected the girl, and did the refine selection and then copy to new layer with mask, everything seems fine, until I turn off the mask. When I do there are black splotches all around her hair where i refined the selection. See attached screen grabs. Thanks!
  17. Hello. Having consigned my CC account to the trash can, I am now learning to use Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. My question concerns the addition of a stroke to the selection marquee. I have searched the forums and cannot find any answer and wonder if a more experienced user of Affinity Photo can help me. Photoshop had a very simple method by which a stroke could be applied to any selection marquee. This was a really useful feature and I used it regularly for highlighting salient features of images which I had included in presentations, where the images would be included to illustrate important points in the discussion. I would like to know what sequence of events I should follow in Affinity Photo when applying a coloured stroke to a selection marquee. Thank you for your assistance.
  18. After make a selection and inversed this and try to copy it the whole system freezed. I used a wacom intuos 4 driver with this, i had to use the mouse to get to unlock the system again. Don't know if this is a bug. There was no expended GPU or memory at the moment. Windows 10 home 28 gb ram i5 gpu an nvidia 1050ti
  19. Somewhere, I've seen a way to select a colour from another program for use withing Affinity Photo, for example a swatch held on my desktop. Can anyone help with how this can be done?
  20. When using the tablet in windows ink mode, I cannot complete the selection with a polygonal lasso. Double-clicking with the pen does not work to complete the selection. Also, I cannot complete the selection by tapping the pen at the beginning of the selection. The bug is repeated on the computer and laptop. Also, in windows ink mode, I can’t use the right mouse button configured on the extra button in pen on the studio panels. I have to use a long press of the pen. It's a long time and very often this does not work the first time. This is very annoying( ScreenRecorderProject1.mp4
  21. When I use layers -> merge selection, the layer on top is marge as if it was under ... (ctrl + Maj + E).
  22. Hi, In the whole 1.8.2 Affinity collection I can't add or remove object to/from already selected objects by shift-dragging the selection marquee. The preference option "Select object when intersects…" doesn't make change. Peter
  23. I've bee experiencing two recurring issues/bugs using your suite of programs for quite some time now. 1) selecting and copying all layers in a file cause the program to close immediately 2) selecting all layers and clicking on a color (to change the color of the selection) makes the program freeze/crash It happens with all programs (Photo, Designer, Publisher), on two different PCs I own (a desktop and a notebook, both running Windows 10, latest version). All programs are up to date (1.8.2.620) now, but I've been experiencing these issues since at least september 2019. Attached is a file where you should easily (I hope) replicate both issues. If you need any additional information (or maybe a video of what happens?), I will be glad to help. Thank you for your support, Davide BIT_pannello_4-5.afdesign
  24. This is a bug I experienced on my Windows computer only, an HP Omen desktop machine, 64-bit system, i7-7700K CPU 4.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. I use both a mouse and a Huion pen tablet as input methods. This bug did not occur on Affinity Designer 1.6. So, what happens is that after 5-10 minutes of work, the Selection tool and the Node Tool stop working. I am no longer able to move or select any object in the document. I cannot even draw a selection marquee. The behavior stops if I restart Designer, but reappears soon after. This bugs make the new version of Designer unusable for me. I went back to 1.6 after noticing it, but that's inconvenient. I also have a MacBook Pro with the 1.7 on it and since I always sync files between the two computers, I can't really work seamlessly. I was hoping that the 1.7.1 update would fix the bug, but it didn't. It seems to me that it made it worse. The behavior occurs with all documents. Is anyone else experiencing this bug?
