  1. AP 1.5.2.69: Rotate the image, so there are transparent triangles in the corner. Select/Alpha Range/Select Fully Transparent Edit/Inpaint This should nicely fill in the corners. Bug 1: While it is thinking the 'at work' box rather alarmingly says 'Delete', as does the History line. Bug 2: The inpainting seems to be done at about 50% opacity (cut/paste the selection to a new layer and it ends up looking about right). The same effect happens with Edit/Fill/Inpainting. Bug 3: There's a nice transparent dotted line down the hypotenuse of the corner triangles. Presumably the selection missed a bit.The same effect happens with Edit/Fill/Inpainting. Yes, I could have used a Select/Grow, but that's a fudge, not a fix. Note: Doing a Grow by 1px and then doing the inpainting results in Bug 2 not appearing. Bug 4: If the triangle areas are too big, the computer crashes. I've a fast Win10 PC with 16Gb RAM and nothing much else was running (MS Word and Firefox). I guess Bug 4 is Microsoft's, though it would be nice if you could give some warning about running out of memory or something and allow a graceful recovery.

    Selection impossible

    Hi, A problem with my file suddenly appear (when I reopened it). I can't select an object (a draw line, or the name of station). Sometimes I can select a point of station - not all. If I open the layers panel, I can select a name of station (in the layers panel). After that, suddenly, I can select all the other names of station (in the page area). If I do this for a draw line (in the layers panel), I could select it on the page area, but only if I select the good draw line. It's difficult to select the yellow vertical lien (see video) because hard to find it in the layers panel. But it's not a solution. I let you see the video and the file - join. Thanks to resolve it.     Intersect Mode Problem?

    Hi, I'm using the rectangular marquee tool and I've added and subtracted a few rectangles to get a shape that looks a bit like some lego pieces stuck together. When I go into Intersect mode, I can drag out a selection that intersects my old shape with the new but when I lift my finger after dragging out the intersect shape the whole selection disappears. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Update - I tried replicating the effect again and this time it worked smoothly. Could this be an intermittent bug? (Yes, one of those little monsters!) I'll look at it again and report back if I can replicate it, otherwise assume that I'm not looking for an answer.
  4. I love Affinity Designer, please keep up the good work. It's coming along nicely, but I have run into some basic usability issues that significantly slow down my workflow. I think these would be useful for most users. Please add some form of vector trace - I am still keeping other vector apps for just this 1 feature. The Selection Marquee can’t select layers within groups - can this be added as an option or to the direct selection tool. With large documents, finding and selecting multiple layers really slows down the workflow. When ungrouping from a hidden group the layers don’t become hidden (which I would prefer) and I have to do that manually. Can they stay hidden by default unless I unhide the group and then ungroup, Can I change the highlight colour In Export tab When zoomed out with alot of slices. I can’t tell which slices I have chosen unless I have them all both selected and ticked. Please enable macros - this would be useful for many repetitive tasks making long shadows for example Again thanks for a great application. These are just suggestions (apart from number 1).
  5. While using a polygonal or magnetic lasso tool for detailed selection, the View Tool shortcut (space) doesn't work. If space is held, the image can be moved as normal but the selection (ants) will no longer be visible until space is released. Space + Ctrl doesn't work at all, i.e. zooming in and out while the selection is unfinished is impossible.
  6. Long time Photoshop user. One of the things I was able to do in Photoshop that I would like to know how to do, if possible, is use a layer mask to produce a selection. For example, if I have a layer with a mask of a person, like in the tutorial on selections and masks, is it possible to take the layer mask produced and turn it back into a selection? Thanks in advance for any help.
  7. I've got a few questions: 1. Is there a way to move the starting point of e.g. a marquee selection while still in the process of selecting? In Photoshop, this works by starting to drag, holding Space and continuing to drag. I use this all the time. (It works for the built-in OS X screenshot facility as well, btw.) 2. When the prefs window is the topmost one and I try to close it using Cmd+W, I always end up closing the document window behind it instead. Is there a reason for this awkward behaviour? 3. [ and ] don't change the brush size for me, although they're set as shortcuts in the prefs window. I assume this is a bug? (I am using a German keyboard, where square brackets are entered through Optn+5 and Optn+6.)
  8. Why is it not possible to make a selection using the marquee tool and copy and paste that area to a new pixel layer with alpha surround that new object? //EDIT: is it only possible on a pixel layer?
  9. I am not sure if this was wished befor, but my colleques asked for this when i gave them a lecture about affinity.. Well when selecting layers in the viewport, by pressing the alt key, and klicking , i can switch through several layer on top of each other... in Photoshop theres also the right click menue, to give you a list of layer, to select from, would this bei possible in the future too ? please.. thanks Tom
  10. I'm now tinkering with converting a mask to a selection. Here's progress: Turn mask into pixel layer. Channels panel, right-click Mask Alpha then click Create Greyscale Layer. (thanks, MEB) Select/Select Sampled Colour. Click on white. Tolerance 100%. Selection created, so delete pixel layer created in 1. I took an image, selected and refined an area (to get a good feathering). Cut and paste to create reference layer. Use above to recreate selection. Cut and paste again, then compare the before-and-after cut/pasted selection layers. Looks identical, even at the feathered edges. Any improvements on this?

Selection Glitch App Crash -Open file -Go to Selection Persona -Use Polygon Marquee Tool in Freehand Mode -On the tool options at the bottom right of the screen, touch the icon of the brush with the thick blue line. -This series of steps crashes Affinity Photo. iPad Pro 2 generation, iOS 10.3.3, Affinity Photo ver. 1.6.4 I have attached a video of this happening and attached it to this post to illustrate.   12. Hello everyone, hello Affinity team, first of all, I love your software - its awesome! Using it for Mac and the iPad Their is a small thing, that would improve your software - its about the freehand selection tool. Can you "steal" the idea from the ProCrate app for the iPad? How their freehand selection tool works? Their selection tool is pretty cool. You can stop the selection if you lift of the pen, BUT if you put the pen again on the iPad, then it connects the points where you ended and were you started again. If you are ready with the selection, you can double tip on a little circle on the beginning of the selection, so its closes the selection. So the hole selection part becomes very easily. I´m not an native speaker, so I hope I could make the idea clear- in my opinion this is the perfect freehand selection tool, because you can take breaks and don't have to do the hole selection in one hand gesture or to refine it the hole time with selection/selection again and again. Maybe you could look at the ProCreate App to understand what I mean. I think this little feature would be a big improvement. Have a nice day - you guys and girls are doing great work!!!! <3 Oh and their is one last thing- could you change that you have so save the selections on the iPad version on an extra channel? That is pretty unwieldy . I would love it, if you just can do a thing like "command+click" like on the desktop version. Or just tip on the layer and hold for a sec. to make a selection- that would be pretty cool.

    I am using AP for iPad pro 2017 and sometimes i want to smash the pad against the wall!!! -Thanks, Affinity... The app is so EXTREMLY BUGGY, it is ABSOLUTLY NOT USABLE! Youre working on a pic for maybe 1 or 2 hours and you want to make a last selection or something else and then... CRASH! Every changes lost! I want to know WHEN is the next USABLE update release date????? This app is actual FAAAR FAR AWAY from a "PHOTOSHOP-KILLER"! You maybe got 2% of it! So... WHEN COMES THE UPDATE TO IPAD???????
  14. For some reason the steps taken to make transparent text on the iOS version does not work. Just try to emulate one of the many affinity photo tutorials for advanced text editing, such as transparent text. I purchased this to make Facebook banners, posters, and other graphical work for the non profit that I work for.
  15. I am used to take daily pictures of the Sun, which appear as a filled circle on a black background. Such pictures have to be derotated by a certain angle to get the solar North exactly upwards and the South downwards in the x and y reference system of the image. Anyway, being an AP-iPad newbie, I have been not very successful with the relevant workflows I have tried. In fact, I have used the canvas rotation feature, which worked fine, but this resulted in an image which was obviously not squared in x and y. Hence, I have been unable to fill the missing parts to get a squared image that can be saved. Then, I have tried to work with a selection containing only the solar disk, but I got lost when trying to save a final image. Therefore, I would be grateful to get some hints about the most effective way to apply the rotation and to save the result. Thank you in advance!
  16. Hi, Loving Affinity Designer so far! It's sleek, fast, and does a great job at everything it does. I am curious about one aspect of selection, though. Let's say I have 2 vector shapes. I do the following steps: Select on one shape Hold shift and drag a select box around the shapes As expected, it inverts the selection of all objects I drag over. If the object wasn't selected, it is now selected. If the object was previously selected, the dragged box deselects it. That works great, and is desirable sometimes. But there are also times when it's super important to be able to hold shift and only add objects. For example, if you have a bunch of overlapping shapes you need to select, but they're also arranged around another set of shapes you don't want to select, there's currently no good way to combine selections. For example: What if I want to select all of the red and yellow objects, but not the blue objects? Is there currently any way to easily do that?
  17. I am very new to Affinity, though I have for six years used Photoshop Elements and add-ons extensively. I am trying to make a selection of a dancer with a multi-coloured costume, however, none of the tools want to comply. They seem to be based on selecting similar colours. The selection will be contiguous, but should come from her (the dancer's) outline, I increase the tolerance and move from left to right etc, but the tools seem to ignore me, despite having spent an hour or more to do something I could do previously in a couple of minutes. How should I tackle this please? Additionally my tools are not showing a menu beside each as it shows in the videos?

  19. I have an issue with selection. I am choosing quick mask to select an object but it's the area around the object I want to modify (in Photoshop, I used to be able to inverse selection and the pixels outside the selection were then selected) How do I do that?

  22. I have watched the tutorial many times on how to use the Smart Selection Brush and the Refine Selection Tool and I cannot make a good selection of the enclosed image of the girl's hair. I would appreciate any help. It looks so easy on the tutorials but when I try it, it leaves a bunch of the green background or it chops off much of the long fine hair no matter how small or large I make the selection brush....very frustrating.
  23. I've already posted this in Questions & Feedback but since it doesn't seem to be implemented yet, I'm adding it as a request. For example, I have a square which only has a fill color (no stroke). If I click on another shape, let's say a circle and I'm changing it's stroke color, when I click back on the square, I would like the color panel to auto-select the fill attribute (since it's the only attribute the square has) instead of keeping the stroke attribute selected (from the previous change). My logic is that I would want to change it's color rather than add a stroke to it. This way would eliminate an unnecessary extra click and speed you up when you'd have to repeat the action several times.
  24. What I'm missing is the function of making a vector from selection. Let's say you have a bitmap (black shape on white back). With the Magic Wand Tool in Fireworks you could click anywhere in the black area, it automatically selected it with marching ants, and from the context menu you could choose "make vector from selection". I need this desperately! thanks.

Hi there Perhaps I didn't understand something, but I get problems creating a new layer with from the content of a rectangular selection in a pixel layer by using cmd + J or copying into a new layer. No matter what, I get a feater effect applied on the newly created content, and part of my selection is missing. I suppose this is a bug, since my feather value is 0px. Really annoying when trying to do pixel art or UI. Now, pics or it didn't happen. My selection: What I get (I've hidden the layer below for legibility) :
