  1. I opened a PNG file to work up a logo. I added some text, a new background, knocked out some white areas. I was just about done and thought, oh, I should save this. When I tried to save it, it said that it contained non-pixel areas and did I want to save it as a new document, which is what I chose. The file, as near as I can tell, was not saved. Now, I have access to only a few menu items and every item I click on in the interface beeps back at me. Saving is no long an option and even quitting isn't allowed. I'd rather not throw out 30 minutes of work, but I can't figure out what mode I'm in that wouldn't let me get of it and save. Any thoughts or will I need to force quit the application and start over from scratch in Pixelmator?
  2. I've lost the place where I can tell APhoto NOT to hide extensions on Save. Has that been removed, or have I just forgotten where to find it?
  3. I just downloaded Affinity and happy I did. I am sure this is the software I've been looking for. Kudos!! I created a card for my son's birthday and wanted to send it to him as a tiff. it only allowed me to send with the extension .afdesign and i get a mesage that Im not allowed to use any other format. i just got my receipt for payment through app store and have not received nor used any key to open or use Affinity. What is it that I'm missing? i want to export as pdf or tiff or even psd - I will appreciate your assistance and direction.
  4. I've been saving my affinity files in iCloud all along and now suddenly my affinity folder on iCloud is disabled. I can still open files from it but I cannot save to that location. my iCloud drives in other applications appear to still be working as expected. any ideas how to get iCloud working for affinity again?
  5. I have a noisy JPG (light level was too low) so I clean it up with some de-noise filters and it looks loads better - but when I try to save it (export) as a JPG or TIF it ends up all noisy again. What am I doing wrong?
  6. Hi All, Trying to figure out how best to save the changes/settings after I've worked on a RAW file. I've looked in the Affinity Help and so far while looking in the Basic Develop Persona section I found mention of "Save Presets" and an icon associated with it. (see the screen shot attached). I've also found a mention in the forums of adding presets via the pull down menu above the Basic/Exposure settings (screen shot also attached) It's difficult finding specific topics in the built in help as some things are mentioned once but can not be used as search criteria to find out more info. Having used Photoshop previously I think some of the trouble is terminology and a bit of semantics, but it would be good to clear up what means what, and how you might be able to see changes after you save a Raw file as when I return to a changed and saved Raw/af.photo file the sliders are all back to zero, which is not what I'm used to using Photoshop. So, questions: 1. How does one see what changes have been made to a Raw file after adjustments have been made and the file saved and re-opened, as it seems on reopening all the sliders are zeroed and not showing the changes that had been made? 2. Where can the "Save Presets" icon shown in Affinity Help be found on screen or in which menu? 3. Is there an equivalent of an .xmp file created after adjusting a RAW file? 4. Do you have to "add preset" via the Basic pull down menu each time you want to save your adjusted settings to each and every file instead of it re-opening with the settings already done and showing on the sliders? 5. Is "adding" the same or equivalent of "saving" presets, or are they two separate things doing two different jobs? (tried to illustrate this with another screen shot) Think that covers it.
  7. How can I save a file from affinity photo to jpg (300 dpi). Right now when I am export to jpg, the dpi is 96.
  8. I'm new to this and I can't seem to save each layer, so when I want to work on it again, it is there. In Photoshop I would simply save the file as a ".psd" but I don't seem to have that option for this. I'm sure it is a simple answer and would really appreciate anyone that can help me out. Thanks for your time.
  9. Saving a jpg from a project with 2 layers takes over a minute; saving the same one in psd format takes well over 2 minutes. What's up with that? I have an i5 with a SSD.
  10. Hi. In Photoshop I was able to apply a script so that when I save my file as a .psd it would also save a copy as a .png file. Is there a way to do this for Affinity Photo?
  11. Hi everybody, I just purchased Photo and like it so far! So as I'm totally new, and the search didn't return any results: is there a way to save all the adjustments I made to a RAW image before developing it? Similar to the .XMP sidecars Adobe creates? I don't want to create presets for every single change I made - I just want to save all the adjustments and changes including overlays, blemish removals, etc. to a file so that I can go back into the RAW file and re-adjust the work I've done without having to do it all over again. Thanks!
  12. Hi, I have bought both A.D. and A.P. I didn't realize that files like jpg and png are by default saved as the original file formats overwriting the original files, until when I just started using A.P. (Affinity Photo) with simple touch editing---I opened a jpg photo; edited the single background layer without adding any additional layers; pressed cmd+s; realized the original file is permanently modified and the size of the file is almost doubled; I assume this is because the editing a jpg file is almost like creating a new one, and the developer had decided to give it a lossless option by default for the matter of jpg compression. In A.D. (Affinity Designer), you almost always add vector layers to pixel layers opened from picture files (jpg, png). So saving the project does not touch the original picture files. On the other hand, in AP, when I load a pixel layer by opening a picture file, edit the layer (not adding additional layer) and press save, it automatically overwrite the original picture file, which I didn't expect it to. I was expecting the same behavior as in 'iPhotos.app' or 'Photos.app' from Apple. I presume this is intended by the developer. However, in my personal opinion, the photo files like jpg and png should be treated as resource files and should not be overwritten by default without warning users. TO THE DEVELOPERS: WOULD YOU GUYS AT LEAST MAKE OPTIONS TO TURN OFF THIS BEHAVIOR, OR PUT SOME WARNING MESSAGES ABOUT THIS MATTER? P.S. I CANNOT THANK ENOUGH FOR MAKING JUST GREAT MAC NATIVE APPLICATIONS LIKE AD. AND AP. I LOOK FORWARD TO THE THIRD APP THAT WOULD DEFEAT Adobe InDesign. Thanks.
  13. Here's an interesting one: I made a new document, went to save it, and created a new folder via the Save dialogue's New Folder button. I changed my mind about the name of the folder before saving the file, so I hit Cmd + R thinking it will allow me to Rename the folder, but I think I triggered AD's Reveal in Finder command. In any case, I rename the folder in the Finder to something more appropriate and the head back to AD to finish saving the file. And then I got the following errors: Of course the volume has plenty of files with more than 31 characters, it's a standard Mac OS X Journaled volume, which I've been using since I bought the machine. So I checked permission on the folder to make sure nothing was screwy and it wasn't , I had correct permissions set up in that new folder. I ran Disk Utility to Repair Permissions on the drive, but no repairs were necessary. The second error left me puzzled, as there was no duplicate file. I figured it must have been renaming the newly created folder in the Finder confused AD... I deleted the folder, created a new one, went saved the file, and we lived happily ever after...
  14. Very impressed with Photo so far. I use an old version of Photoshop Elements for saving photos for the web. There is one feature on that which I use all the time, and that is the photo preview. I can adjust the compression for jpegs and see how it will look. It would be great to have this feature included in Affinity Photo as well. One smaller feature on PE is when a section of a photo is copied and then a new file created, there is the option for the new file to have the canvas the same size as the file on the clipboard. I know it's easy to crop the canvas to the photo size in AP, it would just be nice to be able to do it in one step rather than two. But love the software, and looking forward to the final version.
  15. Hi Affinty team. We do a lot of file conversion of images and vector art that we receive from our clients for supers in TVC's every day. Typically we just have to do quite simple edits, file conversions and layer exports to .png or .exr (looking forward to export to openEXR's in Affinity ;) ), but we do quite a lot each day, and from multiple clients with multiple projects often at the same time. Would it be possible to make the save and export file browsing windows, point to the same folder as where the file was opened from? -instead of the previous location where a file were saved or exported to (which often is in a complete different project folder) as it is now. Since it is something that we do a lot every day it would be quite a time saver, plus it would free up brain resources from path remembering and browsing to be used on actual creative work ;) Cheers /johs
  16. With photoshop I choose in Aperture Edit with…, work on my photo and save the picture ( ⌘S), the changes appearing Aperture. With Affinity Photo saving the picture don't work well. The Save function ask every time for a location to save the picture and won't save the open picture to his original place (e.g. in Aperture Library). It makes the work between Aperture and Photo not really practicable. am I making something wrong?
  17. I'm new to Affinity but i'm already impressed - the crop rotate tool is very smart :) Anyway I'm trying to understand the logic of Affinity only saving in it's native format, it's easy enough to export as jpeg or whatever but it seems odd that you can't save in the format you intend to use. The other thing I'd like is a way to resize including changing the dpi of an image. Maybe it's there but i can't see it. Pixel size is useful but knowing something is a certain size in mm or inches @ 300 dpi is very important for anything that has to be printed. Likewise being able to know immediately how big something at 72dpi is important for web usage. A save for web dialogue would be nice too!
  18. Good evening, I completed my photo job and want to save it. If I click on "save as" I have to save it as .jpg.afphoto Does this chance when Affinity is no longer a Beta version? And if I want to save a photo I want to use less px because a lot of photos will my website make slower. But how can I decide with how many px a photo will be saved? Regards, Maarten
  19. Hi There After using the New Affinity Photo i must say first of all..i am in love..:-) As a Interactive designer i start to think, How we can make the flow of our design work much more faster and simple to use that will also combine a system that will be close to the development system thinking and like this we can start to use design with the thinking of development user which can help at the end of our design. My Idea to add a simple tool which i can save with it, as i want, font style, colors, lines style. maybe to add to the font tool a place were i have 6 small buttons (H1 H2 H3 etc) and by clicking each one of them the system know to keep it and to spread it over my project. Flow example: i open a new file and start to design a web page. now i start to add titles, content, images, icons etc. to all my biggest titles i press H1 button and it keeps it as a style. then i choose a color palette and save it to the same folder my font style goes, at the end i will have a file that each time i will import it to one of my projects it will change automatically all the assets into this style file ( fonts, colors, even windows arrangements..) finally, when i will finish my design, i will be able to export this file to a CSS or XML file and will send it to my Develop team, and Voualla, they have all my Guidelines and style guide in one file/folder.. thoughts?? Best Regards..
  20. Hi. A huge feature to have would be undo stack to be saved to affinity files. That way, we could work on projects as if we never left them. Additionally in fact, a full versionning system could be great, but if we also could - name some steps so that we can go back and forth in our edit history - freeze edits below a certain point (but still see what it looked like and copy elements from those steps) - export at some points in 'time' - have time and date for each edit This is to be able to cope with customers that cannot take decisions and be able to always get back on previous edits to show what it looked like at that moment. You could say that i should save each and every results, but you never know in advance what you will need and that is 1: a huge disk and time loss to organise it and 2: not an absolute way of ensuring that you always be able to sort things out. You cannot save everything manually.
  21. I'm having trouble figuring out how to export a JPEG for print. The document is set to print and is 300 dpi, however, when I save, the image is 72 dpi. I don't see an option in the save settings (attached).
  22. It'd be wonderful if the ability to export slices was expanded even further for the creation of icon sets. With icons, I want the ability to dump raster images of various sizes. So, for example I might want to: 1.) For each slice, generate a PNG file with the object centered at 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, and 256x256 2.) For each slice, create a .ico file with all of the following images at multiple color depths. Use case #1 is something I need multiple times per week. Use case #2 is fairly rare.
