  1. Good afternoon, all! I am sure this has been asked before so if anyone has a link that I cannot seem to locate, I would appreciate it. I am attempting to make simple designs in Designer for export as an SVG to then upload to Cricut Design Space. I have attached a file with a simple example. I am wondering what the steps would be to do a couple things: 1. Have overlapping parts of the layers be negative space in what is behind it. An example would be the text in the attached file. If I am cutting vinyl and want everything to be on the same plane, I need the words cut out of what is behind it so the words can fit inside of it. 2. When uploading the file into Cricut Design Space, instead of the outline of the circle I have created (3 of them), Design Space fills in the circles with the associated color. I want just the outline of the shape and not the fill. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I am using the file as an example of what I would try to do because I am assuming that whatever I do with any other sort of shape would lead to the same results. If I just want an outline of a given shape, why doesn't Cricut recognize it as it was drawn? Thanks for any help you can provide. even if it is a link or such pointing me to another resource. 2. I am posting this feedback in this section of the forum, I hope this help to improve the software Not going to talk about the bugs, I hope all of them get fixed I am going to compare my experience with other softares, such as Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape (the ones I use the most) For the few time I have used the software I can tell is very minimalistic, (I really hope this is not because the Ipad version limitations, as PC can do much more than a Ipad, so I hope PC version is not being limited to keep in the same quality of the Ipad version) Or maybe is the way the software is going to be, as it could be a minimalistic software not planned to have advanced features, I would like to know which kind of software Affinity Designer aim to be, minimalistic or advanced? Developer team care for both personas this mean less time to focus to improve designer persona and possibly priorize pixel persona over vector persona (The software is meant to be a vector graphic software, rather than a raster graphic software) The exporting persona is not intuitive and does not have much more to offer than the traditional exporting in the user menu The software have very few settings and some of them are not compatible with SVG format (The standard file format for vector graphics) The software have very few tools and some of them are not compatible with SVG format (The standard file format for vector graphics) There are very few tools for vector graphics, and the customization for them are very tricky and not intuitive & limited _ What I suggest is to focus on introducing new tools&features&settings to work with vector graphics and improve the ones that the software already have Currently I don`t use this software because of the limitations exposed, as other vector graphic software have to offer much more optimized tools&features for vector format (SVG), I really hope it get more complexity eventually as for now it is not a stand alone software for its limitations & few features for vector graphics.
  3. I have created a simple design which I hope to use in mapbox as an icon. mapbox requires svg. I export my design to svg but when I load into mapbox, the fill colors are not there. the icon is "there" in my custom styles list but the colors do not appear at all. I have tried multiple different settings on the AD Export More options from the svg export tab (making sure to check Use hex colors, flatten, etc) , but they all have the same result when brought into mapbox. Mapbox has troubleshooting for Illustrator and other problems here - https://docs.mapbox.com/help/troubleshooting/studio-svg-upload-errors/#common-issues I cannot find the equivalent settings for what is suggested for Illustrator in Designer. I also tried to understand the svg file by changing the .svg to .txt and examining it in notepad. I checked the various tags against support / unsupported elements, and I cannot see any problems (admittedly I am not a web designer however) I can see the .svg in both firefox and chrome. Thank you for any help. Windows 10, AD 1.8.2 training.afdesign training_7_unchecksetviewbox.svg
  4. Hi You all! Trying to export my design as an SVG to be able to cut it with my waterjet. 😀 Tried all kinds of different settings and export options without luck. 😐 What I'm looking for is a step by step guide to prepare my files into the right format and or some checker functions which detects errors and so on up front. Attached is one of the files I'm trying to export. Or is the conclusion in the end that I would be better of with an expensive piece of software ? I was just starting to like Affinity! Any help appreciated thankyou Henk Langenberg Bordje.svg
  5. I want to import/place the following SVG file (hlines.svg). It looks correct in Illustrator. I can also open the file in Chrome and it looks correct. Here is how it looks when imported/placed in Designer: It is faint, but only the square in the upper left corner appears and it is missing the two horizontal black bars. How do I fix this? If I open the file it looks similar but I get a long list of layers. It seems that all of the boxes are being stacked on top of each other. I can select a layer and then move the SVG object to a different location. In this example, I moved each of the boxes from the upper left corner, where they were stacked on top of each other. I don't care if the objects are on separate layers or flattened on the same layer. I am not doing any editing except for scaling the entire image to 30 in x 30 in. I just need it to look like the image at the top, hLines.svg
  6. Aloha, I 've notice when I insert a hyperlink Text>Interactive>hyperlink onto my picture(s) all is well 😀. However, when I file>export as an SVG file, all hyperlink(s) are gone. Yes I realize PDF file will contain hyperlinks, SVG file can be used as images and contain hyperlink (<svg></svg>. This missing feature is a MUST for web designer, UI designer because the advantage of SVG file over jpeg, png, pdf, etc are treminduse. I can upload an SVG file as an image file to my website. Works well for responsive websites and for creating beautiful looking website menus (hyperlinks). Now, I am stuck importing my SVG doc files into INKSCAPE, were I can insert a link. Finally, I export/save my SVG file in INKSCAPE and upload to my website. Now I have a beautiful picture/photo with object layers with hyperlinks used for my website minues. Tested this by created and exporting a SVG doc and uploaded/open-with Google Chrome. Hyperlink(s) are missing in Google Chrome, Firefox! Not sure if I am using Affinity Publisher correctly or should use Affinity Design or photo? I have all three of your products. Love them to death! Great Products. Just think, if all your products could do this, all web designers will purchase your products with the capabilities up uploading images (SVG) to website layouts... 7. TL;DR 1) add dxf support (in- & export) 2) Change SVG exports to world/document units instead of pixels. I recently bought Designer to escape Adobe hell, but I am running into a rather large annoyance: We do a lot of lasercutting/CNC routing at our studio which needs DXF files to work (feature request 1, please add DXF support). I understand this isn't implemented in Designer atm and this wouldn't have to be a deal breaker if SVG export would work properly as I could always use or write an SVG to DXF converter. The problem with current state of SVG: Every SVG is converted to pixel units on export. What that means is that if I design a document in mm, it will be converted to pixels using the DPI setting in the export menu. I've figured out that 96dpi does seem to "work" to get the SVG in "correct" dimensions. Though, due to the fact that mm units are converted to pixels using DPI and are then reconverted to mm when opened up in other software packages, there are rounding errors. Example, 100mm converted to pixels at 96dpi (100mm*96dpi)/25.4mm = 377.952755906px Now, due to the nature of the codebase, that resulting float value is probably being rounded to a number of decimals (all SVG height & width values seem to be limited to 2 decimals), so when we try to convert that "rounded value" back to mm, my initial 100mm isn't quite that anymore. (377.95px/96dpi)*25.4mm = 99.999270833mm One might argue this is not an actual issue for the final result of the work you're doing, as lasercutting and routing wood have a larger error margin than that anyway, but it is for communications sake. When I tell my CNC partner something is 100mm, it needs to be 100mm, not 99.999. Besides that, this just feels like a bad implementation of SVG anyhow. Why would you even convert units. The only workaround I have found is drawing everything up in pixels and manually changing the svg code to use mm. eg.: <svg width="100%" height="100%" viewBox="0 0 1280 800" ... > to <svg width="1280mm" height="800mm" viewBox="0 0 1280 800" ... > This way all the values of the paths are interpreted correctly as being in mm instead of pixels, but this just feels like an ugly patch on something that should not be that hard to fix and implement. Please fix this. Thanks.
  8. Every single one of objects are often wrapped by group individually which is unnecessary when export a SVG. Not sure what's exact condition to recreate it. but sometimes it's wrapped, sometimes not. I attached an afdesign file that grouping problem happens as an example. It contain only simple shape(closed curve) and line(open curve) that's styled with only stroke and fill. There's no factor to be rasterized or divided. svg-test.afdesign
  9. Hi, For a project I need to add a <pattern> fill to svg elements. It's no problem generating them by code withJavascript, but it would be a lot faster if there is a way to create these patterns from the Designer-editor. Is there a way to create vector-patterns in Designer that export to a <pattern> element on svg export? Thanks!
  10. So I want to make pixel art and I see the pixel persona being used for that but I don't want it to be raster I'd like to export my pixel art as an SVG (with no raster) so I was wondering if that was possible with something made in pixel persona. If not is there some sort of pixel tool for the normal designer persona? All I saw there was the rectangle tool and that'd be a pain to use for pixel art.
  11. Hello all! I'm currently facing an issue when exporting one file with some masks (grayscale gradients) as SVG. All these masks are rendered, in the resulting SVG, on the full image size (not only the curve it should apply to). The problem appears with Photo, Designer and Publisher. I've attached to this post the .afphoto version (source) and .svg file (export target). Could someone help me find out if I'm making a mistake, if it's a known limitation of the exporter or a bug? Thanks a lot for your help. Logo.afphoto SVG Result.svg
  12. Hi there, I wanted to do some editing of an svg file of a floorplan. However, when I import the svg file into my Affinity Designer on my Ipad the file is all messed up - with elements moved around. I've uploaded a screenshot of how the svg file looks in Affinity and how the file should look (I had it also as a png file). I've double checked my source file and it's fine and it opens fine in Adobe Illustrator. I don't have Affinity Designer for my mac so I couldn't test that. I tried it with a couple of different floorplans and the same thing happens. Is there something I can do to easily fix this type of file?
  13. I'm trying to export a design as a SVG to import it into Blender for 3D work. Some of the curves are being rasterized and don't show up in Blender. What is going on and how can i fix it? 15. Hello, I am working with Altair (python library) and one annoying bug is a wrong depiction of axis ticks/labels in every Affinity software. Looking foreward to fix this bug Let me show you! Affinity Google Chrome (or another software)
  16. Hello. As the title said, Affinity Designer has problems with translating radialGradient tag inside SVG files. In the screenshot provided, the gradient start point are not at the center as seen on the left side (opened using Chrome) but Designer ignores it. affinity-svg-test-c copy.svg
  17. I want a feature to export SVG files as keeping the layer display state. In help document (Layers panel), it says: However, I confirmed that the display state of the layer was maintained when exporting to PSD file. And I want this behavior even in SVG export. Could you implement this feature? Due to the above limitations, clients who only have Adobe Illustrator cannot show illustrations as I intended. For example, I would like to make only the "eyes open" layer visible and the "eyes wink" layer invisible, but currently I cannot export without making both visible. As a result, my client have been forced to show the illustration in an unreadable state.
  18. I generated this file using the feisty.info box maker. It looks good elsewhere, but in AD, all the boxes have shifted sides, shifted text etc. I'm enclosing the original, and what happens after I open the original and immediately export it as SVG. What you get in the new file is what you see in AD when the file is opened. Any clues what I am doing wrong? Archive.zip
  19. Looking at the SVG output at the moment SVG's always get a 100% width and 100% height, meaning they always scale up or down to a parent-window (in a browser). But there are a lot of usecases we don't want SVGs to scale on websites and if we do it would be nice if we could set how the responsiveness would behave, so to wich windowborder the image would stick and if we want to keep the aspect ratio while scaling. These are all very simple SVG attributes that only have to be added to the svg when we need it. Browsers are doing the rest. At the moment there is no setting in the SVG settings to turn the auto scaling (100% width/height) behaviour off in the SVG, meaning we have to manually take these attributes out of the SVGs each time we export an SVG if we don't want autoscale. It would be a lot easier, faster and less time consuming if we could just set these settings once inside the SVG export options to save it with our own preset. So what I ask for in the SVG export settings dialog is: - A switch to choose between using document width/height (keep size) or 100% width/height (auto scale) - A listbox to choose the 'preserveAspectRatio' attribute in the SVG so we can set this to: - none, xMinYMin, xMidYMin, xMaxYMin, xMinYMid, xMidYMid (the default), xMaxYMid, xMinYMax, xMidYMax, xMaxYMax (as described here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/SVG/Attribute/preserveAspectRatio) These are important settings for exporting SVGs for Web and not very difficult to add to the dialog cause they only change 3 attributes in the svg tag. But they speed up the process of SVG exports a lot because these changes don't need to be made by hand in a texteditor after each export! Thanks!
  20. When exporting a vector image to SVG, Designer appears to add hundreds of points to a path that aren't there when editing, causing the exported file to balloon many times the size as one exported from illustrator. For example, the Twitter logo contains 20 points on the path in Designer, but after exporting as a SVG it balloons to 1,554 points! Is there anyway to tell Designer to not add points, and to respect the original layout? This is holding me back from dumping Adobe Illustrator completely, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike
  21. I have a problem i did vector image and when I want export it as SVG there is a information that "some areas will be raterised 1. When I export it rasterised nothing all is good( second pic) 2. When I export it rasterised unsupported propertis happend this ( first pic) 3. When I export is as rasterised everything all is good
  22. Is there a way to export global document colors to the SVG in a centralized way? eg. style/linearGradient or solidColor So as to be able to change one line of code and have all affected elements change their color at once! Thanks!
  23. Hello, I hope you are doing well. This is the second time that my Affinity Designer freezes. Everytime I copy .svg files or copying other artworks into Affinity it kinda crashes and stops working for no reason. Please check the video. Thank you System-Crash.mp4
  24. Hello guys, I bought Affinity Designer to do web related work. Basically, I use it to create and export files, mostly SVGs when working with vectors. The idea is, exporting the SVG, taking the SVG code and paste it in the HTML code so we can mess around with the SVG coloring with mouse hovers, etc. The problem is, for multiple times the SVG code exported from Affinity doesn't work right. Sometimes the SVG are cut in a small portion, bugged in some browsers like Safari, etc. Which it's a pain because I used Illustrator for this and the codes generated by it always worked fine.
  25. Somehow one of the texts from affinity to svg doesn't export nicely. As you can see the lower text got squeezed, and not retained its isometric grid while exporting. I can view this SVG file on the web and affinity without any problem. But if I try to open this in Sketch app, it looks weird. Any idea what's causing this issue?
