  1. Sometimes it's important to make sure in the exported SVG files, each ID is unique among multiple files. It would be great if there's a way I can set up a namespace, or prefix to all IDs (a.k.a layer names) when exporting to SVG.
  2. Hello, When I open the svg generated from Gephi or R, you can not see the labels (character string) of my graphs. By opening these files with GIMP or Inkscape, I no problems to view these headings. Thank you in advance and sorry for my bad english. Antoine
  3. Hi, today I started playing around with this awesome vector application that you build. As I know SVG very well, I was thinking about a similar functionality to symbols to reuse assets that I build multiple times. From you introduction video I have seen, that you can embed documents. So I created a document for an asset, which I then placed 6 times. Everything behaves like I expected it. A change in the asset, results in an update of the document where I placed the assets. But the export seems buggy. I tried exporting to PDF and to SVG, but those exports results in a large file size even I just used vectors without fx or pixel effects. From the resulting SVG file, I could see, that the affinity designer exports an svg with an image tag an a data-uri with an image/png embedded. I expected to get a small vector file as I just used vector paths. If I copy & paste the assets file directly into the document, the file size gets small as expected and also the file contains path information rather then a rendered image. The best would be if during the export to SVG embedded vector documents will be converted to a symbol, that is referenced with a <use /> tag. Tony P.S. As a feature requests a library for assets (symbols) that can be references would be awesome. Also external assets via http or relative links would make the application complete. model.afdesign
  4. SVGs I export to use in PaintCode (iOS vector graphics app) don't appear once imported. After talking to the developer, the problem is that the SVG viewport width and height both defined as 100%. Paintcode expects pixel/point sizes. The Paintcode developer will improve their handling of these kinds of viewports, but it seems to me that Designer should possibly specify a viewport equal to the document size.
  5. Hi, If I export to SVG using the font "Arial Black" I get (part shown here): ...text style="font-family:Arial Black;... which looks fine. However if I open the SVG file again I get an error that the font does not exist.
  6. Is it possible to export selected object(s) as SVG? I need to export to SVG in order to drive a vinyl cutter. If this isn't currently possible, is it on the roadmap to be added?
  7. The only major thing holding me back from using Affinity as my full time vector image tool is the import handling of vector images. I use eps files a lot in my work and when I import(place...) an eps file it gets saved on the layer as an embedded document. I then have to double click on the image to edit it. Then I need to double click on that image to select its curves. I next copy its outline, go back to my original document and then I paste the outline into my document. I then need to delete the imported image(embedded document). If I don't do the above process, The image will not print(cut). Is there any way that Affinity can turn on a user preference that will allow a user to select if they want to import images as embedded documents or converted as curves upon placing them in the document? Or, provide a button that can be clicked to automatically convert to curves instead of doing the above procedure? I know this has been asked before but I haven't seen a definitive answer if this is something that will be available soon or not. It's this and curved text that is preventing me from cutting the strings on Illustrator (I can wait for the other goodies on your future upgrade path). I am using the beta.
  8. I know this will probably take a lot of work but I'd love a good toolkit to animate my SVG files for the web. Icons, ui elements. SVG is becoming a more prominent and important part of webdesign however, it takes way to much time to fine-tune an animation, not to mention the amount of repetitive code for really simple animations. As proven, you guys know how to make very easy-to-use environment for complex stuff, so I can't imagine how fun it would be to tweak my animations within the Affinity environment. Or just an all new piece of software!
  9. The attached image is made of simple strokes and results in a raster when exported as an SVG (raster inside SVG). I've even tried to expand the strokes and then export. Even then, with no brush used, it results in a raster. I've play with PDF and EPS too. I can't seem to get this graphic out as a vector. Suggestions? Cheers.
  10. Hello, I have exported one of my drawings as an SVG and reopened in Affinity and some of the content does not show. The layers show that they are there but the content is missing. I would like to know if this is only a bug when reopening in Afdesign or does it effect other vector editing programs as well. --Jeremy
  11. I downloaded the AD trial version onto my Macbook Pro running 10.7.5. I have no trouble running the Adobe CS/CC apps and my machine meets all the minimum requirements for your app. Whenever I try to export any file as an SVG (even just a simple circle or square), nothing is created. No files show up anywhere. Other export methods do work. Then after trying the SVG export, whenever I try to close the file, I get the spinning beach ball and must Force Quit the app. Is this a known bug? Do you have any recommendations? I really wanted to like this app as an alternative to Illustrator but if it's this unstable and unusable, I will need to look elsewhere. Thanks for your time.
  12. The question is in the title... is PDF / SVG export functionality fully implemented? I ask because in my test cases I'm seeing gradients, and shapes with effects getting clipped + rasterized rather then being fully editable gradients + effects. Ideally any effects should use SVG filters when exported. This was always a problem I had with DrawPlus. I often had to export out at really high DPI to remove any gradient dithering, and import it into Illustrator where I vectorized the rasterized portions. The results I'm getting right now are disappointing. Though the PNG export from a large vector files is incredibly fast, and clean. Nice work there.
  13. When you export an SVG, whole document gets exported. An option to export only the image (shapes), without empty portions of background page would be very nice.
  14. Just purchased AD and spent some time test-driving it -- feels nice, intuitive UI. Personally, I was very interested in SVG export for web work and I was happy to see it under the supported formats. Having done a quick test, it certainly worked but I had to edit the SVG file afterwords to get it working 'responsively' (sized via CSS, using percentages). Currently, the SVG is exported with its size determined by the 'width' and 'height' attributes. For example, an object defined as 50x50px object will have width="50" height="50" baked in. By replacing these attributes with viewBox="0 0 50 50", the size can now can be controlled using CSS, e.g., svg { width:100%; } It's an easy manual fix but it would be great to have the option setting available during export..
  15. Hallo Affinity Team, I'm looking for an alternative to Illustrator and have tried out Affinity. Unfortunately, I'm rather disappointed with the SVG Export in Affinity. Some layers in my vector graphics are coded as inline PNGs (data:image/png;base64). It would also be nice if the layer names were also exported in the SVG, so that I can target them in the code later. Thanks, Gary
  16. I have a chart that I have composed using a couple of boxes converted to curves. With the outermost one, bordered in red, the very top should have a weight of 0.9pt. On the afdesign file it does, but on the SVG it has reduced in width for some reason. Any ideas? Any suggested workarounds? TIA dive_times.afdesign dive_times.svg
  17. I have a simple drawing (attached), just vectors created entirely in AD. When I copy and paste into other applications I get a variety of strange results. This may be something odd in AD's clipboard content and is certainly inconvenient. Pasting into: Pages 4.3 (my intended destination) sometimes works and sometimes pastes a file name (eg file:///var/folders/h1/djnp3y4j1x5bk3sb9dszfn4c0000gp/T/com.seriflabs.affinitydesigner/Clipboard.svg). Selecting just the ellipse can give different results to selecting all the objects. Pages 5.5.1 (the latest) sometimes does the same as 4.3 and sometimes works correctly whilst also reporting that the clipboard is an unsupported file type! Keynote (latest) just pastes the file name Preview (latest) and iDraw (latest) work fine. I was a little surprised that the clipboard image is SVG but presumably there is some technical advantage from this. As a workaround, assuming that PDF would be a more reliable bet, I exported (and then imported not the target application) a PDF version. This has a bounding box determined by the page size from AD; not a bug but inconvenient if you're creating small inline drawings. So this may be a feature request but I couldn't find an option to export only the drawing's objects (as other vector apps can do). 18. Icon Fonts are a brilliant way to manage scalable art for the new flat world of web and app design and quickly becoming more popular: http://fontawesome.io https://icomoon.io http://fontello.com Request: Font Designer Persona - Affinity Designer is well positioned to provide THE ultimate on designer tool. The first step is to enable exporting of slices to SVG. This could be followed by more enhancements up to and including generation of font files (or json) and supporting CSS. With the ubiquity of icon fonts, font editing is not just for font designers any more. Creating a page with a grid of slices for each character in the font would be great and remove the tedious steps of creating slices around hundreds of icons. Have a look at http://www.glyphsapp.com and cover a few high value holes. I have only just begun my own research and experimentation on this topic. I going ahead with creating most of my app artwork as an icon font but I cannot use AD until SVG slice export is available. I hope others will agree.
  19. Hi, I am posting here because I am facing an issue which I do not understand at all... I have a bunch of files created with Inkscape, which use Trebuchet MS font. And when I try to import one of them (or directly open) in Affinity Designer, it fails to load the font "TrebuchetMS" (without the space), and replaces all font with a default one, which I definitely do not want... I had the same issue with Illustrator a while ago, and I really don't understand. If I open the SVG file in a text editor, the Trebuchet MS font is well defined and written, and I cannot find the "TrebuchetMS" chain anywhere... I have attached a very basic example of file which opens properly in Inkscape, and not in AD... Does anyone have an idea of what's happening and any solution to propose?? Thanks a lot! 20. Hola, I love Affinity and I'm working a lot with it. I have a lot of problems exporting vector files. I've read the forums about these troubles and I didn't find anything about this bug, so here I go: When exporting SVG files, there is a bug around the strokes. -If I open the exported file in Adobe Illustrator, some strokes have disappeared. -If I open it in Affinity, the strokes are there but they have changed their color and caps, others have been rasterised and some others have disappeared too. (I understand that the shadows are in 'multiply' mode and it can't be exported, though). Thanks, you are doing a great job!
  21. Hi I know you've already got a ton of stuff on your list of things to do, but is there any chance of adding support for accessibility features for SVG on export? (and preserving them on import if they are already there) http://www.sitepoint.com/tips-accessible-svg/ I think it boils down to the ability to add <title>......</title> <desc>.......</desc> at the beginning of the svg document. As well as, if possible, aria-labelledby="title desc" role="img" to the <svg> tag. If you could enter this information at the same time as you do the export then that would be one less thing to remember. This is all stuff that can be easily added with a text editor so it would come under the heading of 'handy-but-not-essential'.
  22. Hi I want to build an svg graphic that I can use like an image map. So I wanted to make some of the paths clickable links eg: <a xlink:href="" > <path id="campania" d="M564.55 581.71l-2.24-0.73 0.82-3.38 -0.66-3.4 -5.95-10.98 -3.58-2.48 -0.52-3.53 -2.05-3.73 -7.48-8.95 -2.91-2.67 4.28-1.26 1.04-2.15 2.1-0.94 1.53-1.42 0.83-7.98 -1.12-3.07 2.53-0.84 3.17-2.61 1.44-0.48 1.99 1.28 3.14 5.2 2.38 0.72 3.43 0.04 0.7-0.8 -0.28-2.23 -1.93-2.49 2.81-3.92 3.07 0.38 4.41-0.37 3.6 0.97 4.39 2.42 7.89 2.82 2.16 0.26 2.65 2.95 4.5 0.1 2.51 1.73 5.46-2.99 6.68-0.61 1.48-1.15 0.97-1.98 3.54 1.71 7.59-2.35 5.01-2.66 3.63 1.54 1.94 2.26 1.77 0.99 0.33 2.89 -2.66 2.96 0.77 2.86 3.95 2 1.51 3.14 3.12-1.15 4.35 2.04 1.41 1.84 -1.59 1 0.45 1.97 -3.61 3.52 0.1 1.61 3.98 2.33 2.03 2.2 7.78 0.58 1.74-0.73 3.67 2.34 7.63 2.13 1.33 3.57 -3.02 6.78 -4.74 2.69 -7.61 0.25 -1.02 2.45 0.37 2.85 -1.5 2.41 1.7 1.44 0.42 5.46 1.01 2.24 3.83 3.6 3.82 1.47 -0.2 1.14 -2.58 2.27 -0.31 1.9 0.92 0.79 2.53 0.77 1.9 1.79 1.62 3.9 -0.11 3.2 1.08 1.39 1.92 1.2 1.21 2.17 2.35 0.92 2.8 2.79 2.24 0.42 0.83 0.65 1.12 5.37 5.2 4.49 0.23 1.87 -0.94 1.97 -4.08 2.74 -1.99 2.12 -0.22 3.22 -3.31 4.55 0.15 0.93 0.89 0.61 -0.9 1 -0.9-0.7 -0.9-1.89 -0.98 0.38 -5.76-0.38 -2.03 0.72 -6.38 5.85 -1.31 0.39 -1.99-0.27 -4.72-2.77 -3.71 0.41 1.32-1.44 -1.25-2.42 -2.33-2.41 -3.29-1.7 -4.69-4.46 -1.4-0.57 -4.77 0.53 -6.55-5.49 -3.53-0.91 -0.24-1.12 1.77-2.26 0.62-2.06 -0.5-2.24 2.23-0.93 1.25-1.32 0.85-3.52 -1.07-3.39 -6.58-12.67 -2.12-3.13 -3.98-4.16 -2.22-1.58 -2.49-0.6 -2.53 0.93 -2.16 1.55 -5.78 0.28 -3.22 2.52 -1.87 0.34 -4.58-1.64 -4.91 1.56 -5.74 3.7 -0.58-0.76 -0.12-1.65 0.63-1.47 3.61-1.07 0.67-1.32 5.69-4.34 0.78-1.16 -0.36-1.94 -1.11-1.45 -2.81-1.74 -2.58-0.65 -7.46-6.24 -5.48 0.68 -1.68 2.7 -1.29 0.07 -5.27-2.59 -2.39-0.17 -0.78 1.24 0.4 2.62 -0.05-0.02ZM555.47 588.61l-0.92 0.79 -1.86-0.18 -2.16 0.85 -2.68-1.55 1.35-2.53 -0.2-1.16 0.9 0 5.79 2.21 -0.23 1.58 0.01-0.01Z" class="s1"/></a> Only AFD won't import them (it will import the paths that I haven't tried to make clickable). The graphic works OK in Safari and I tried running it through the w3c validator and it seems to validate OK (more or less). Thanks. (I hope it doesn't seem like I'm always complaining, but I'm assuming that you want to know about issues so you can make AFD even better than it already is).
  23. Hi I've just imported an svg file, copied and pasted it into another, did some resizing, changed the layer names, and then exported the combined document (a map with place names) to svg. I ended up with circles being converted into paths. To give one example: <circle cx="210.4" cy="230.6" id="Genova (w9) marker" r="3" class="style0"/> <g id="Genova (w9) label" transform="translate(0,0)" x="215.4" y="230.6"> <text id="Genova (w9) name" x="215.4" y="230.6" class="style1">Genova </text></g> was converted to: <g id="Genova marker"> <path d="M215.887,281.212C217.745,281.212 219.251,282.719 219.251,284.577C219.251,286.435 217.745,287.942 215.887,287.942C214.028,287.942 212.522,286.435 212.522,284.577C212.522,282.719 214.028,281.212 215.887,281.212Z" style="fill:black;fill-opacity:0;stroke-width:1.12px;stroke:black;"/> </g> <g id="Genova name"> <text x="221.494px" y="284.577px" style="font-family:Verdana;font-size:11.2154px;fill:black;">Genov<tspan x="257.112px 263.848px ">a </tspan></text> <text x="221.494px" y="295.792px" style="font-family:Verdana;font-size:11.2154px;fill:black;"> </text> </g> Is there a way I can get it to retain the circles as circles so that I can more easily change the radius? Thanks.
  24. EDIT: Sorry I forgot to check the answer to my question in the questions section. I'd have deleted this thread but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. At the moment if I import a file with a bunch of svg shapes Affinity converts these to paths. It would be really handy to be able to preserve these as svg shapes. For example if I have a bunch of map markers that look like this: <circle cx="168.5" cy="581.2" id="Alghero marker" r="3" class="style0"/> <g id="Algherolabel" transform="translate(0,0)" x="173.5" y="581.2"> <text id="Alghero name" x="173.5" y="581.2" class="style1">Alghero</text> </g> I can easily change the radius of the marker from 3 to 2 by using search and replace in a text editor (I can't see any way to do the same thing with multiple paths - but maybe that's my ignorance). Webcode and Sketch do this (although in other respects I much prefer Affinity). Thanks.

    SVG import

Hi I had a couple of problems importing an svg file with the CSS statements in the head of the document - AD correctly interpreted the global styles, but seems to have ignored a style attached to one particular element; - I got the error message "The following files are missing: "Open Sans", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif" in response to a CSS statement about text labels. I'm uploading my file so you can tell whether I've got something wrong. I appreciate this may be more about features that AFD doesn't yet have. Thanks
