  1. Hi, Is there a way to scale an object without using the handles. At the moment we have to drag on the corners to scale an object up or down. Sometimes I'd like to be able to zoomed in to something else and can't see the handles which makes precision scaling to match something in your drawing difficult. This is because at that point the move tool is selected, so I can move the object without seeing the handles. Is there a modifier key I missed somewhere that turns the move tool into a scale or rotate tool? I don't think there is or I haven't found it after 4 years of use. If not I'll put in a feature request. Something like when holding the command key the move tool turns into scale and holding the option key turns it into a rotate tool when the cursor is over an object. Thanks, Bert
  2. Here is a strange development. I select the design element I want to rotate to the left and the WHOLE document shifts on the screen. The item I selected does not move. I did not select the small circle to rotate the design element, used the right-click menu for rotation. see attached screen shot.
  3. Is there anyway to rotate selected nodes within a larger object rather than adjusting the handles of each node separately? I realize that I could rotate a grouped object, but these nodes are part of a larger bunch of nodes, and grouping some of the nodes groups all of the nodes in the object. While I like AD very much I do miss this feature that I often used in Illustrator.
  4. Many options for rotation in Affinity Photo are constrained to simple fractions of a circle, with 15 degrees being the smallest. It is possible to rotate by an arbitrary angle using the Crop tool. You place the cursor just outside a corner, and rotate by dragging the two-arrowed cursor that appears. This tutorial explains how you can rotate an image using Filter > Distort > Equations. Before rotation you would normally want to expand the canvas so that you can give the document enough room to rotate. The new canvas width should be at least 150% of the existing diagonal and the Anchor should be in the centre of the array of nine positions. See this image: q Now select Filter > Distort > Equations. The top pair of buttons allow you to choose the co-ordinate system. The default is Cartesian (the usual x and y axes). You need to choose the Polar option. You now have two lines: r=r t=t The r represents the radius (the distance of a point from the centre of the image), and the t (or Theta) is the angle of rotation in radians.Radians are a measure based on pi, You can easily express an angle in radians as a multiple of pi, so 2*pi represents the entire 360 degree rotation, pi represents a half-circle rotation (180 degrees) and pi/4 represents a quarter of a half circle, or 45 degrees. So, writing t=t+pi/2 rotates the image by a quarter of a circle counter-clockwise. Entering t=t-pi*0.333 rotates it by a sixth of a circle clockwise. So, given a grid like this (after resizing the canvas): and using the equations as above, gives an image like this: which can then be clipped (Document > Clip Canvas) to give: . I have created a macro with a single parameter a which represents the fraction of pi. The default value of 1 will not rotate the image. Increasing a will give progressively more rotation; a value of 0.5 will rotate by a half-circle. In the example here, I have resized the canvas before applying the macro. The formula used in this macro is: t=t+pi*2*a. Here is the macro: Rotate.afmacro John
  5. In this beginner tutorial I'll show you how to draw a parking disk with various tools and techniques in Affinity Designer 1.6.0. Although this tutorial is only available in German, you can hopefully follow the course of the video. The detailed table of contents in English inside the video description is hopefully a good guide for the single steps. Keep on drawin' Norbert
  6. Hi there,, I bought an iPad Pro for photo editing while on the road. I take RAW photos, and am very pleased that Affinity Photo can import and develop RAW photos. However, there are quite a few very basic shortcomings that outright annoy me when using Affinity Photo for a longer period of time: I do not quite understand the "persona" concept. I've been using GIMP before, and am used to having access to all commands at any time (when possible). Whenever I need to switch "personas", an annoying overlay pops up the right. Even when I have closed the navigator, history or whatever overlay before, it pops up again and obstructs the view on my picture. Which leads us to: Please save the last tool settings for later use! Whenever I switch to a new tool, I get the default settings - not the ones that I've previously selected! That is very annoying when you have to edit 50 or more photos in a row. Which leads us to: The same goes for photo export: please save the last settings! When I export a RAW picture, I would like a RGB8 PNG with no metadata embedded. This always requires lots of setting changes for each export! Also, please make it much easier to simply save a picture to the camera roll. It is not intuitive to tap "Share", and then abort the export process. Most annoying for my workflow is the crop/rotate tool - apart from the default settings coming up each every time. I can straighten the photo's horizon alright, but the problem is that only a LAYER is rotated, and not the entire photo. This makes for annoying transparent triangles on the sides, which I in turn have to crop manually (all the time having to select "Original aspect ratio" instead of "Unconstrained"). Please make a rotate/straighten option like in instagram, where the picture is automatically cropped after rotate so no transparency remains. Thank you.
  7. Drawing something by rotating is OK as long as nothing is overlapping. I tried a daisy (Daisy.afdesign) and cannot manage that the last leave at 5 o’clock comes on top of the start-leave = 6 o’clock AND remain below the leave at 4 o’clock. It should work using boolean function but what ever I’ve tried … only the wrong portions got cut off. Is there a way to have TWO boolean relations do the trick? The other optien I could only think of would be to apply boolean (DaisyBoolean.afdesign) and cover the not wanted green line at 5:30 via a hand-drawn orange layer. DaisyBoolean.afdesign Daisy.afdesign
  8. If you rotate an image in develop persona, then when you select develop, only 2/3 of the photo survives. This must be a bug? IOS 11.2.5, Affinity 1.6.5.61.
  9. Second day into using AP. (On a tablet enviroment) Looked around re my question which is “Finger rotate canvas / image” At best i can use the select image at the top is a handle use this to rotate image. What i wish to do is be able to pinch zoom in and out with the fingers, this works great thank you, now I like to rotate the image with the fingers please on an ipad, similar to say procreate. Can this be done ? If so how and if not can this be implemented in the near future up dates please. Regards Rob
  10. Rotate Canvas really useful but, when Canvas rotated, Selection Outline (Marching Ants) is not visible. iPad Air 2; 2017 Pro 12.9 AP beta 1.6.7.68 iOS 11.1
  11. I want to custom rotate multiple layers, I can find fixed rotational parameters, but not a custom one. When the Move Tool is used, all the layers elements are selected but the corner manual rotation double arrow is not there - see attached screenshot. I have tried using various keyboard actions with the Move Tool but to no avail. I need the multiple layers to all rotate accurately, so individual layer rotations are not effective and I do not want to flatten to rotate. In PS this is easily achievable, what am I missing in AP.
  12. Hello! I’m testing Autodesk Sketchbook with Wacom Intuos Photo Small tablet. I can zoom, rotate and move (in any direction) canvas with two fingers, without take fingers off tablet. It is very comfortable. Can you implement such feature in Affinity Designer / Photo (Windows)? I love Affinity software but I miss comfortable manipulation of canvas. Sławek
  13. This seems a little too basic to have to ask, but the Help system is not helping. I have an image that I want to rotate a few degrees prior to doing some perspective correction. The Help entry says I can grab "rotation handles" but all I see are a blue outline with blue X's at the corners and midpoints. When I try to "display rotation point" I get nothing. None of the shift type keys have any effect. Is this one of those "can't get there from here" features that I seem to run into on occasion? Thanks!
  14. When I rotate a CR2 image 90º clockwise in the Develop module it does just what it should. However, when I finish and it goes into the Photo persona the lower part is a white transparency. I've tried this on several portrait shot images and they all do the same. I'm using OS X 10.12.6. Here's one example.
  15. Hello, Wouldn't it be easier if we could rotate an object using trackpad gesture?. Current implemented feature is rotating view using trackpad gesture. So, to rotate object it could be like; click the object we wanted to rotate, then hold shift and do the rotation gesture accordingly. In addition, you could do the same with object resizing with zoom gesture. Background issue: sometime it's little "annoying" pointing the cursor to the right spot to get rotation control on. To sum up, we all know that Mac's magic trackpad is one thing that make it standout from other hardware interfaces available on the market. And every Mac's user loves it. So why we wouldn't take it to its true potential? Thanks, Regards
  16. In affinity Designer, I can rotate an object using the Transform panel by selecting any corner point (or centre) and then entering the number of degress to rotate it. However there does not appear to be a way to use the transform panel to rotate around the basepoint which I can drag from the centre of an object. The only way to do this is to hover over the object itself and drag it on the canvas. Selecting the centre node on the transform panel and then entering a rotation in degrees should rotate it around the point at which i drag the rotation centre node on my object to. How can I rotate an object around a basepoint by a specified number of degrees? Thanks.
  17. I've tried exporting, saving, sharing but the image I rotated in AP IPad saves as upside down in Photos, ICloud Drive, etc. even though it looks fine on ipad. Is it me or a bug or?
  18. Hi! Please Add Decimal Places for Rotation, Shear and dpi resolution (number shown in top-left when Move tool is selected) It can be useful and in many cases and make program more precise;)
  19. I'd really love to be a able to define how shift rotate snaps. ie if i could choose other integers than just 15deg or rotating to the decimal point or having to type it., or at least please make the shift-rotate per 5deg or smth cause the 15deg feels like a huge handicap for me. if there's a solution and i just havent figured it out please someone let me know thanks to anyone that read this :) be well all.
  20. Hello! Affinity Photo is awesome! I love it! I have downloaded it and works great! It could be even better if you add a very useful tool for illustrators: Canvas Free Rotation. Affinity Photo brushes are beautiful, and I love to use them in my artworks, but the software should be able to rotate the canvas arbitrary, as we rotate our sketchbooks while drawing. The brush experience will be flawless! I'm a Wacom user, and my Intuos has the "Canvas Rotation" tool. I know it works in Photoshop and Sketchbook, so I know Affinity can make it available for us in the coming update. ;)
  21. Hi there, it would be great if it would be possible to rotate a guideline so that it is possible to adjust an angle. In an old version of Corel Draw it was possible to rotate the guidelines by moving one endmarker of it in the ruler. (Please find the attached jpg on the bottom) This was a very easy way to freely place and adjust the guidelines. Regards Hardy
  22. I would like to hold a key down with a selected object and be able to rotate and size using the trackpad gestures. Need to get away from using this handlebar nonsense! Another great feature would be to use Force Touch to set a pivot/transform point in relation to the object. For example, I often want to rotate an element with the pivot point in on the side, not the center. Supporting holding down a keyboard button to constrain to preset amounts (e.g. 45º for rotation, 10px for transform) should still work too.
  23. May be a silly question - I brought in three images to edit and wanted to switch one to landscape. Is there a quick way to rotate the canvas including image without using the doc settings?
