  1. Here's hoping this is the last of many posts spread throughout the Forum regarding development of RAW files in APB (because they will have been fixed in RC 1 ;) ). However, FWIW it seems that the Digital Assistant is at the bottom of many of the issues. Some posts have been to the effect that the Develop persona in .25787 has benefitted greatly from the DA. Other folks have almost given up after getting blown out whites or funereal blacks. I was mainly in the former group, but have recently had a bunch of unusable developed files (mostly in the "funereal" category). However, re-reprocessing with DA off, and doing minimal manipulations in the DP before going to Photo Persona for the main editing, gave results that were in a different league all together. So, looking forward to RC 1, and if there is no change, will post this as a bug. With thanks to MikeFromMesa for helpful discussions that led to this conclusion.
  2. If I try to open any NEF file, Affinity Photo crashes…every time. Affinity Designer Beta can open the same NEF files with no problems. I really don't know if this is a new problem with this build or not. I'm sure I've played with this build but I don't know if I tried to open a NEF or just played around with other formats…TIFF, or PSD. I've reset and restarted the app. Repaired permissions and restarted the Mac. Relaunched the Finder (since that was the problem with the disappearing file icons.) Deleted, downloaded again, and reinstalled the app several times. The only reason I've included a small part of the crash log is because, as it says, it includes Application Specific Information. Well, I thought I was attaching it. And there's no option to do so now.
  3. I have a raw photo that I want to edit in Affinity Photo. As soon as I open it, without making any adjustments whatsoever, the colors look blown out. The skin tones are harsh; reds and oranges are saturated. I have attached screenshots as an example. Any tips?
  4. My first go with a RAW file, .NEF, from an approved camera. It opened in Develop Persona, I got fantastic results from adjustments, and I love the workspace. But I can't find the 'commit' button, so the program won't allow me to leave the persona for any other one, nor can I save my adjustments. Well and truly a stuck beginner. What am I overlooking (probably the obvious)?
  5. Out of curiosity, I always see any photo product have its own RAW import compatibility. The RAW support I see Apple release every now and then on their system updates, cannot be used for imports from your (or any other developer's) app ? I just wonder why every image app developer have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to RAW imports :P
  6. the blemish removal tool doesn't work at all, does it?
  7. I tried to use the in paint brush in raw files, but that doesnt seem to work as well as several other things. Is that something that is still under construction?
  8. Does Affinity use a copy of the RAW file for editing and is it non destructive?
  9. When opening CR2 RAW files from my Canon Rebel TSi, the the exposure is dramatically altered. The photos are much darker once pulled into Affinity. Photos that are overexposed look extremely underexposed once opened. Does Affinity do automatic editing when opening files? And if so, is there a way to opt out of that feature? I have attached a screenshot as an example. The original is on the right and the file opened in Affinity Photo is on the left. Any help would be appreciated!
  10. I cant work out how to import a photo into affinity photo. ?? Also, I use adobe bridge and camera raw as I am photojournalist. How can one batch process and Copyright etc etc. WE NEED A PROPER MANUAL!!!!!!
  11. I browse to my files on my external hard drive and try to open. It keeps saying file cannot be found. They all open fine in lightroom & PS. Please help. Canon 60D .CR2 raw
  12. After a day of playing around in the various "personas," I certainly enjoy the UI of Affinity Photo Beta and am impressed with it's drawing speed with large image files. I also commend Serif for it's ambitious efforts to provide another suite of photo/image editing software. That being said, I have noticed many areas of improvement regarding a basic post-processing work flow. Note: I'm assessing this software as a landscape and astrophotographer who currently uses the Adobe suite for post-processing. My recommendations are highly biased, so take it with a grain of salt. Develop Persona: My biggest beef with this module begins simply with the importing of the image to be processed. Opening an unprocessed RAW image (in my case .CR2) within the develop persona apparently causes the program to analyze the histogram and produce automatic adjustments to the image, especially when using high ISO images or where much of the image may be over/underexposed. This processing produces a high degree of noise which requires significant luminance and noise reduction to return the noise levels to "as-shot" conditions, though of course with significant degradation of image quality. When compared to the unprocessed RAW image as viewed in preview, Lightroom, CameraRAW, or any other software, the Affinity photo histogram shows that it has been normalized to what it considers a properly exposed image. This is not the purpose of a RAW editor! Please leave the edits up to the user. I will attach a screen shot to demonstrate the difference between an unmodified image opened in Affinity Photo's "Develop Persona" and Lightroom. When viewing an image without lens exif data (i.e. produced by non-chipped lenses), exif data from other open images is still displayed at the top of the window even though it does not pertain to the image in the current edit session (also shown on screen shot). Add an edit history tab in this persona. When performing RAW edits, I prefer to have the option to jump back to a certain look in my edit history or even back to the original imported image. There are history tabs in all other personas. The white balance slider units should be in temperature kelvin rather than % deviation. Include lens correction profiles rather than just manual adjustment sliders. Include the use of the keyboard to nudge sliders side to side, as it facilitates quicker edits. Edits must be committed or canceled prior to entering another persona. Once the edits are committed, you cannot re-enter the Develop Persona even though the image is still in it's RAW format (although, a dialog box does appear stating that the ability to re-enter Develop may be added in future betas). Photo Persona: The crop tool is primitive. It only facilitates a free-crop with no ability to maintain aspect ratio and provides no aspect ratio options. Fix! Brush sizes can only be changed by clicking on pre-set sizes in the Brushes tab. Add on-the-fly brush size changes using the keyboard and/or mouse wheel. Export Persona: I see that the canvas size and document dpi are changed in the document preferences. It would be nice to see these on the Export Persona, especially since there's an awful lot of unused space on the persona sidebar. Macro Persona: Crashes almost every time I open the persona. Good luck with the beta testing and modifications. I look forward to the program developing towards it's real potential. Cheers.
  13. So, first off sorry if posted somewhere else. I did spend a bit of time searching and didn't see an answer. I don't know that this falls under the RAW file load issues either. I am testing out 'Photo' with some .cr2 files that I have already processed through "Lightroom4". While the file I'm loading is the .cr2 file, it is also loading the sidecar information that was created when I made my corrections in Lightroom. Is there a way to turn this off and load the original .cr2? One a 2nd note for that, I am also seeing color shifts between the file that has been loaded, vs the file open in lightroom. Same working color profile of Prophoto RGB with the same calibrated monitor. Any thoughts here?
  14. Hey guys, I first want to say a massive well done so far, its looking awesome! I don't know if its been mentioned here but I've noticed when testing out RAW files that once you make changes to an image in "Develop" and commit no XMP file is saved out (at least for .cr2 files). I really like XMP files as it provides a non destructive way to edit your files, its a standard across many RAW editors and has great compatibility across many apps. I would also be able to theoretically edit existing files originally edited in other programs right in Affinity its self! I've also noticed you can't go back to the "Develop persona" after committing an edit although reading the warning box suggests this wont be an issue in later builds. I just wanted to know the situation around this topic. Will things be improving or is this the limit to what you can do with RAW files in affinity. Cheers guys :)
  15. Hi. I'm professional photographer in S. Korea. 1. Hope to using fujifilm raw files in affinity. 2. And, For recognizing, checking lights or something on the tab what I change things (brightness, curves, .. stc) thnks,
  16. when will fuji xtrans support be available please. Also I am converting my RAF xtrans files into tiffs without any processing being done to them. I then move that file to affinity but that is only a 60 oercent solution. Fuji recently added "classic chrome" to their film simulations and in your color process window there is a selection that virtually duplicates that. That's a good thing.
  17. I am a frequent photoshop user, and I'm already loving Affinity. Deffinately considering changing to this software. I look forward to seeing high editing tools for massive creation in Affinity. What I would love to see the most is a RAW plugin that allows you to tone and edit single or multiple raw files. In photoshop it was Camera Raw and I could have use that camera raw feature to fully edit hundreds of raw files at a time. Something similar to this will be a great addition to Affinity and definitely a game changer! Looking forward to seeing new and exciting stuff in Affinity!

  19. I didn't see the a7r in the list of raw formats. Does that mean it's not there or that it sits under one of those listed. Thanks
  20. When will you support Sony RAW format ARW? I'm using A7II and cannot edit RAW files.
  21. Russell Brown here — no, not the one from Adobe but I *am* the author of Paths to Artistic imaging in Photoshop (ISBN 978-0-987574-60-2 ) Nevertheless, I for one would be delighted to see a viable, professional alternative to Photoshop and will be happy to make suggestions, should they be helpful. I have installed Affinity Photo today and have only had time for a brief look, but I already have some observations and will add more here, as I find them. I have noticed some others already making similar suggestions, however I felt that it would be better if I start my own thread to keep all my ideas in the one place. The main issue I have so far in that raw (NEF) files opened in Develop Persona are doing some strange things. It would be good if the default processing on opening could be switched off permanently as an option and where is the white balance adjustment for Tini? As it is, this module is a bit clunky and could do with some refinement. Ajustments to the sliders are difficult and can't be adjusted finely, as one can with the arrow keys in Photoshop. ACR is quick and intuitive but so far, Develop Persona is not. In the main program, can you add an option to have finer grid squares in the Curve dialog box? In PS, one can Option-click in the dialog to get the extra grid lines, making fine adjustments easier. Double clicking in the workspace in PS is a quick was to open a file. Can this be incorporated into AP? Do you have plans for a Bridge style image viewer to make selecting files easier and quicker? In the Channels palette, could you add the composite image, so that after working on individual channels, I can easily return to the composite image? At the moment, it seems that I have to click on each of the other channels, including Alpha, before I can see the composite image again. Do we have an Info palette and can we add sample points to an image for precise colour adjustment? This is essential and I can't see anything in the Help section about it. While we're on the subject, some diagrams and info are missing from Help. More to come....! Thanks.
  22. does affinity support raw files from olympus OMD EM1? i saw the list of supported cameraa and the EM5 was on there but not EM1. is this why i am unable to upload my photos?
  23. Hi, I can't seem to find an easy way to adjust the tint and temperature of a photo while in the Develop Persona. White balance allows for +/- between blue and orange or red. Is there any way to do this without adjusting individual curves? Thanks!
  24. Hi, Just downloaded the Beta version and noticed that the newer Fuji cameras, X-T1 and X-E2, are not supported yet. Adobe supports the X-Trans sensor, sort of, but with many issues. I think they have settled into it's good enough, but it is not! Do you have plans to fully support the X-Trans sensor? Phase One's Capture Pro 8 does a decent job, but even that could be better. They have stated in the past that they really don't care to do anything regarding Fujifilm cameras so any further development on there part is nonexistent. The Fuji owners of the world are really looking to a good solution. Your thoughts?? Thanks, Rick Lewis
  25. Just downloaded the Beta and will be giving it a spin. Frustrated a little that you don't yet have support for the Nikon D810. How long will the wait be ?
