  1. First order of business: I love the updates, big thanks to Affinity and Serif for the hard work! Onto the suggestion: Currently, I can batch RAW files to .afphoto files, but they are embedded with huge file sizes and no option to make them linked instead. To convert RAW to .afphoto as linked files, I have to individually save each one. This is a problem for my workflow. Also, when merging for HDR or Stacks, I cannot use .afphoto files as the source. This requires me to batch out intermediate TIFFs first, which eventually get deleted and seem like a wasteful extra step. For context: I shoot a lot of bracketed photography, mainly for HDR but increasingly for focus stacking. Currently, for a 5-bracket shot, I have to manually open and save each of the 5 exposures. With larger photosets following multi-day trips, this is going to be extremely cumbersome. Bonus points: I would love to be able to add text to the end of a filename (e.g. "_Edit") when batching, but that's a much lower priority than the requests above.
  2. First of all, thanks for these updates, excited to try out the tools! I do have some issues that I've found after an hour of trying to use this as an alternative to other photo editors that I'd hope to see addressed: 1. A way to save raw edits as XMP instead of requiring the saving of an .afphoto file, the idea of closing down in an ecosystem, particularly with the lack of a DAM, doesn't sound appealing. It sounds like that's kind of what the Embedded and Linked options do, however the Linked option did not actually add any files to my system (I kept watch on any files with the same file name as the photo), so I'm unsure what the difference between the two is. 2. Global presets for RAW edits, instead of one per page. It's a bit confusing as is. Also a way to edit existing presets and save it as such, instead of deleting a preset, remaking it from scratch and saving that. Also this is likely a bug, but when opening a new raw file to edit, the settings are set to Default, but the "selected" preset is the last used one, requiring switching to Default and back to the saved preset to actually change things, sometimes even doing it multiple times, the feature seems quite buggy. Also, ideally a Preset Manager would also be present, to be able to see exactly what each preset does, and potentially tweak from there. 3. Non-destructive cropping is a must. Honestly just something similar to the artboards, so if you crop an image you can adjust the crop later. I could just open the file in ADesigner, but that's an extra step that could be avoided. 3.1. Keep a strict ratio for cropping, but allow to rotate the crop based on mouse position when dragging the crop selection around (see how cropping operates in other apps like Lightroom and Capture One). 4. Split view of photo without edits, or just being able to toggle the raw edits on and off for preview purposes. 5. It's not clear enough that a photo is a RAW file, a button similar to the FX one would work wonders and make it much clearer what it does. 6. There's something about the Overlays panel that feels incomplete, I think it should be closer in look and feel to the Layers panel but then again, how is this better than just duplicating the layer, making the adjustments in that raw layer, and applying a mask to that? Even more powerful then because you can use images and the like. I might add more to the list once I spend more time on this, but so far I'm somewhat disappointed. Non destructive raw editing was a highlight of the announcement, so I thought it's finally a good standalone photo editor. It is clear however that the app development is still walking in the shadow of CameraRaw and while there have been some improvements and additions that are much welcome, I'm sad to say that I'll likely be sticking with Capture One, despite my wishes for that to not be the case, not because of the lack of a DAM (just making that clear), but because of the lack of a good, non destructive, open photo editing flow.
  3. Hi The subject line says it all. I'm rather disappointed that a major upgrade for Photo doesn't include an ability to process Nikon "High efficiency" RAW files. Hopefully, a dot update is in the works?
  4. Hello - I would like to see the ability for Affinity Photo to sidecar the changes made to a raw file so that when tweaks are made, the user can return to develop persona and continue edits. Currently, once you switch from develop to pixel persona, you loose the ability for any further modifications (very DESTRUCTIVE). This feature would be huge for anyone editing raws, because there's always editing remourse after hitting "Develop" and the dread to reopen a blank raw file and start edits from scratch is a big time waster in a daily editing flow. I'm aware of the presets, however you can't create one preset for each overall edit, presets are only savable per tab (e.g. Lens, General, etc), so you end with 4+ individual saved presets to accomplish ONE edit. Not a good solution at all. Any implementation of this feature would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Here is the supported RAW camera list, as of 2.4.x retail builds using SerifLabs RAW engine: If you are looking for the list supported by Affinity Version 1 you will find it posted here Note: This list is for the native SerifLabs RAW engine only (this is the default when you open a raw file). On macOS and iOS there is an additional option to use the built in RAW image processing Apple (core image raw) engine please refer instead to these articles for their list of supported models: on macOS Sonoma and iOS 17 on macOS Ventura and iOS 16 on macOS Monterey and iOS 15 on macOS Big Sur on macOS Catalina Serif Labs Supported Cameras (based on libraw 0.21-2 release with additional Canon 6. Hello. I would like to ask why affinity photo's develop persona is still has very limited features? I hope they would at least add color correction features that would allow you to change hue by hue, hue by luminosity, hue by saturation, saturation by hue and etc. A lot of useful color editing tool are only available outside develop persona, making it harder to edit the image without degrading it easily. The masking in develop mode is also still very limited. I hope affinity will soon add it to their updates. Thanks.
  7. I just got the a7iv recently and for every single photo I uploaded was distorted, cropped and just blown out looking when importing to Affinity photo. I have been looking heavily on the internet and have not found similar problems. I have my camera set to RAW. .ARW is Sonys format. All help would be appreciated. On my camera the photos look fine and in photos it looks fine as long as I don't import them. If I import the photos they just turn out grey as shown in the pictures.
  8. Hello, My RAW images imported and opened from the Canon R3 all look like the example shown (in all Affinity programs). Attached is a comparison between .CR3 and .jpeg. Where is the error here, with me or in the programs? 🙂 Gerhard
  9. Hey! I have a problem with RAW files in Affinity Photo on Windows. Every time I open a RAW file the colors are incorrect. I realized that in develop persona the image is treated as a 32 bits HDR image, changing the options of the assistant did not fix anything. I also tried changing the color profile option but I get the same result. This is how it looks in Affinity Photo: And this is in Luminar 4 (correct colors): Thank you for any help!
  10. Hi, I have a MacBook M1 Pro with Mac OS Monterrey. I have raw images from my Canon 80D in my Image/ Photo Library/ and in an album. From Affinity photo, I go to File/Open and select my raw image. But then it opens ir in Photo persona, not in develop persona, it created/imported an RGB .jpg image instead of using the raw I opened. In the pictures, you can see the raw images and in Affinity you can see the automaticaly converted jpg file. What is going on here how can I fix it? Thank you.
  11. I can not open RAW files from my Panasonic GH6 camera. See attached file. This is not due to any issues with memory cards, computers, operating systems, or the camera. Here is the reply from Panasonic. Will you be providing support for RAW photo files from the Panasonic GH6 camera soon? Thank you. Dear Mr. Steven Cleghorn, I hope this email finds you well. In regards to your query and following further investigation on your case, we would like to advise you that the reported issue is not a fault with the unit as the supplied/compatible software recommend by Panasonic works and that means that the unit is functioning within its specifications. That being said, you may contact the Adobe affinity team for support and help regarding this to confirm if the camera is compatible or not as we are not able to guarantee the functionality since it is a third party software. I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you, however, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind Regards, Eva Panasonic Customer Care Team
  12. Hello. I would like to propose a feature that would allow the user to copy and paste raw adjustments to multuiple RAW files from develop persona. I believe currently this is not possible. This feature will make the applying adjustments much faster and easier for many kinds of workflow including timelapse. And additionally an option to export multiple selected RAW images at once. This two features will be a game changer for affinity as a whole. I believe this could be a great direction for the software. This could increase the interest of lot of people considering RAW editing is now considered a standard for most. I hope affinity will place this higher in the priority if possible. Thanks.
  13. Hello! So i'm having this issue where on some images there is this weird edge. It still appears after being exported. Any fix maybe?
  14. I am trying to make the transition from Photoshop to Affinity Photo and for developing raw images I find Affinity Photo more powerful than the raw file converter, but I have a problem with resolution. Amongst other cameras, I use a Fujifilm GFX 50S and when I convert the raw images with the free software RAW FILE CONVERTER EX 3.0 powered by SILKYPIX, I get images with a resolution of 300 DPI, but when I convert them in Affinity Photo Develop Persona, the result has just 72 DPI (even though when I open the file in Photoshop I find that it is 16 bit!). There must be an Affinity Photo default setting that is wrong, but I can't see where to change it. I know how to change the resolution manually, one image at a time, in Affinity Photo, after the image has been developed, but cutting the resolution from the 300 dpi in the camera down to 72 dpi and then changing it back up to 300 dpi must result in loss of definition. Guidance on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated! Trevor
  15. Hello I would like to propose a feature that would allow the user to switch between the orginal and the current adjustment of raw image in a faster way. I am aware of the syncing feature but there are times when it just takes a lot of steps to just view the orginal especially if you accidentaly synced the wrong adjustment. This new toggle button feature would just allow a quick way to switch from orginal. In a simple way, this is like a toggle button that disables all the effects/adjustments including the overlays.
  16. I suggest Affinity Photo to support exporting High Dynamic Range HEIF (HDR PQ 10-bit) from RAW/DNG/ProRAW file. It could really be a killer feature in photo editing across any OS platforms. It is especially beneficial to users who are using some recent MacBook Pros supporting HDR10/Dolby Vision (e.g. iPad Pro 2021 with XDR display). For web publishing compatibility, HDR-PQ AVIF could also be supported. Please kindly support.
  17. Having been using Affinity Photo for nearly a year now I wonder why the same complaint is prevalent. There are so many comments of 'AP is great but' the but referring to the fact that RAW development is destructive. At first it didn't bother me but now I find there are more and more times I would like to go back and tweak my initial raw development but I have to return to the RAW file and start from scratch. I used to hate PS's sidecar file but now realise it's benefit. How hard would it be to implement non-destructive RAW adjustment? This would make it easy to copy the RAW adjustments from one edit and paste in to many files speeding up workflow. From comments I have seen there are many people who will not use AP purely because of this 'issue'. I am looking at another program that has a far better 'RAW' development tool but sadly lacks on the photo editing side as, among other things, it does not support layers. IMHO AP comes second to PS but only because RAW development is destructive, fix that and AP would be number 1.
  18. Hi, I'm new to this forum and apps. I'm coming from using Lightroom Classic, and for the last 10 month dive into Darktable and its scene-referred workflow. I didn't consider Affinity Photo as an alternative to my overall workflow, but, well, I changed my mind :) So today, I came across @James Ritson 's article : RAW actually https://affinityspotlight.com/article/raw-actually/ I've several questions, but here are already 2 :) There is a note about 'hightlight recovery'. It seems neither the Develop persona or the Photo persona have this tool. How would you get around it ? At the beginning if the article, there is a list of step being done on the RAW image before being shown n the develop interface. Is that all the steps or may be more ? (and before the Assistant comes in) Demosaicing Hot pixel remapping Lens corrections Translation to a colour space Gamma correction Tone mapping Somehing I realy like in the develop persona is the use of a very large color space that is also linear and unbounded. I wonder if this could be also use in the photo persona. Thank you :)
  19. Hi! I am using Affinity Photo on macOS Big Sur 11.6 hardware acceleration (in Preferences > Performance) is ON When developing big RAW images, typically after applying Basic / Lens / Details effects, when painting an overlay using either the trackpad or an external mouse, the coordinates seem to be turned around and the overlay gets drawn in a totally different place than where the curor is actually drawing them on screen. (See Screenshot1).
  20. I just discovered, to my horror, that ORF RAW files are cropped in Affinity Photo. I kept wondering why I was suddenly cutting people's feet off. When I checked the JPG versions, however, all feet are there. Funny thing is, AP shows that the ORF version has a resolution of 5240x3912, while the JPG version shows 5184x3888. When I view the files with the Windows photo viewer, the JPG version is the cropped one, and the ORF shows quite a bit more. So I appear to be losing quite a bit of pixels in AP. Anything I am missing?
  21. Hello support, I am encountering a problem in Affinity Photo 1.9.2.1035 in Windows 10 20H2 x64. I want to process a batch of 245 RAW-files made with my Nikon Z6 (.NEF with a file size of 28-32 MB per file) with the following options: - Save file to a different folder - convert to JPEG using standard settings (quality 100) As long as I do not activate the "parallel processing" option, everything runs fine, but somewhat slow since the pictures are processed one by one. As soon as I activate the option, 32 files will be processed simultaneously (32 CPU Threads), but no picture will be saved. Every file will have the "I am working" animation (see marker in example image attached), but it will run forever. The RAM usage is approx. 43GB then. My machine contains the following parts: - AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (16 Cores / 32 Threads) - 64GB DDR4-3600 CL16 - Gigabyte X570 Mainboard - AMD Radeon RX6900XT 16GB - source disc: Samsung 1TB 980 Pro SSD (NVME) - target disc: Corsair MP510 1TB SSD (NVME) - newest drivers and Windows updates Is the "parallel processing" not working a normal behaviour? Is this option designed for machines with far more CPU cores (e.g. workstations with 64C/128T) or is this a probably a buggy behaviour? Thank you very much for your answer and your investigation. Regards from Germany!
  22. Hi! I have been using Affinity Photo on iPad Pro for over a year and I have experienced a very frustrating bug when I import RAW images from my Canon DLSR for quite some time. It manifests in the form of a rectangle in the bottom left of an image that appears to be a zoomed in portion of the overall image. This mostly happens with stacking, but also happens with single images. This only occurs within Affinity (it looks fine directly within the iPad gallery) I have attached an image as an example. Please help! Thanks! Stacie
  23. See video attached, the only difference between the technicals of the two images I tried are the lenses used and the date/time taken, my camera is in NZST and iPad is on EST, other than that there’s no technical difference between the raw files. They both open and edit normally using the Apple’s CIR engine. IMG_0174.MP4
  24. dear affinity management, i tried the affinity photo for 90 days.. it is a very good product.. kinda 9 on 10... id love to purchase it BUT.. everytime one makes changes on to a raw photo, adobe photoshop saves the changes into an xmp file ( simple <40kb notepad file ). this is not the case with affinity when dealing with raw files. we have to re-edit the raw pics again and again and again!!!!! if i hit "develop" and save-its massive 150 mb plus file size against xmp which is <50kb AND when i export the pic in .png we dont get the slider(quality and file size) like in jpeg... the png files are huge and have to use another software to reduce its size.. PLEASE do something about it.. the .xmp feature is the reason keeping most newbie photographers like me to not buy your superb product! Even free softwares like darktable does this somehow.. why not in AFFINITY PHOTO??? i see many people have been requesting it for quite sometime now.. atleast give an announcement regarding any update on it.. if its gonna be implemented or not in the upcoming version... on the whole, AFFINITY PHOTO is an awesome software.. no doubt about it! In a nutshell, the request to mgmt and devs is "xmp sidecar feature" to save the changes made onto a raw photo like Adobe PS does or darktable does asap and improve .png export (add file size/quality slider as in jpeg export) Appreciate the AFFINITY TEAM in making this product! Thanks you..
  25. I am unable to use Apple iPhone RAW DNG files (taken from iPhone 12 Pro) in either Affinity Photo (1.9) or also latest beta 1.9.4.242. The DNGs open but they are quite washed out - the same washed out look as though it were film and I were shooting in sLog. These DNG files open in a variety of other photo editing apps quite nicely, just not in Photo. The only workaround is opening in Mac OS Preview and saving as TIFF. Then it all works. But I would prefer to use RAW. Please see one of these files attached. IMG_2655.DNG
