  1. From a special cam I have sensor buffer data in bayer 12 bit format. To work with Affinity on these images I'd like to convert my data into the simplest raw format that's supported. My question: Which of these formats https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/4630-supported-develop-raw-cameras/ would you recommend for that, which is the simplest to create? (and documented of course...) Have independently looked at DNG, but thats also much effort to create, don't want to use a tool set, simply want to write the format! Note: can supply the sensor-specific color matrix if that is required for the format. Thanks, Laminosu
  2. Hi, I've tested the development of RAW files from the Panasonic DMC-GX80/85, because it is in the list of supported cameras (affinity photo 1.5.0.43 beta). It seem, that the white balance or the color interpretation of this raw files are not correct. When loading the corresponding dng file, the colors seems to be correct. According to dcraw, the filter pattern of this model is: BG/GR Loading RAW-files from a (the older model) Panasonic DMC-GF1 (also in the list of supported cameras) the color interpretation seems to be correct. In comparision to the corresponding dng file the interpretation of the raw data of this model seems to be nearly identical. According to dcraw, the filter pattern of this model is GB/RG Maybe the differnt filter patterns are the reason for misinterpreting the GX80 files? Cheers norbert.r
  3. The develop persona is using a different size for my RAW photos, that what is recorded in the EXIF. I attach a screenshot. Now, why is that? It makes me lose my confidence for the RAW converter. Having paid €3500 for a camera body, I am after the highest possible quality for the RAW conversion. BTW, if you are trying to reverse engineer proprietary RAW formats that the hardware vendors seem to have disclosed to other software makers, perhaps it would make sense to coordinate and try to push Sony, Canon etc to the right direction. Our photos belong to us.
  4. Hi, I noticed that Affinity Photo always thinks my RAW images are 96 DPI. The only way I know that I change that is to resize it AFTER I'm done with developing the raw image. Is there any way to set a default for all my raw images to be 300 dpi while I'm importing the RAW file or do I have to always "resize" it (without resampling)?
  5. Windows 10 OS, CR2 raw files, When I open a CRW raw image the develop persona opens complete with a 'Develop' tab and a 'Cancel' tab. I believe this is as it should be. If I open a CR2 image produced by my EOS760D or EOS7D the image opens in develop persona but without either the 'Develop' or 'Cancel' tabs. When I close the image I receive a message telling me to either 'complete' or 'cancel'. At this stage I cannot complete since I am unable to access the 'Export' command, and since I do not have a 'Cancel' tab, I cannot cancel either. On some occasions I needed to go to Task Manager to close Affinity and then re-start. I have checked, and both raw files from both cameras are listed as supported. Can you check if this will eventually be corrected?
  6. Hi Everyone, Just wondered if anyone has been having problems with printing out their images using affinity photo? Since finding out that affinity photo opens up RAW files at 96dpi by default (seems strange to me) I have tried the advice of others by un-ticking the resample box in document size and resizing to 300dpi. However my images come out blurry and stretched?! Anyone else having this problem? I really can't understand why a photo editing application opens images at a smaller size by default, surly we all know that changing its size can cause harm to the image which I seem to be finding? Interested to see if anyone else has my problem. Billie
  7. Is Fujifilm X-T10 RAW supported. If not, do you have a plan and schedule to support the Raw conversion of Fujifilm X-T10 camera. It is quite popular model among my peer group. Cheers
  8. Hi, I used the develop persona to develop my first RAW photo (i'm completely new with RAW files). When I press develop, the result stays not the same. Is this a bug? When I go back to the develop persona, I see the Noise Reduction is not checked anymore. Kind regards, Andreas Furster
  9. I'm trying to develop a Panasonic (GX80) RAW file in Affinity Photo Windows Beta. The scene is of a beech hedge in Autumn, so lots of vivid colours! When I load the file, the colour balance is way off - in particular, leaves that should be brown/copper are a lurid shade of bright deep pink. I understand from earlier posts that Affinity does no processing before displaying RAW files (in contrast to other apps), but I cannot get the colours to look anything like real-life when I play around with all the controls in RAW develop persona. I have also loaded the file into RawTherapee and I get what I expect after resetting all the controls - the normal sort of washed out appearance. Also, I note that the histograms in RawTherapee and Affinity disagree; it's as if they are different photos! Other than that, I'm having great fun with Affinity!
  10. Hi, Affinity designer as the ability to preview it's file in windows explorer. Is it possible to add image preview to supported RAW files? Or is there any other way to show a grid of pictures? I made a lot of RAW images. How can I view them easily? Kind regards, Andreas
  11. I use the Affinity Photo Beta, because RAW from my Canon 80D is not supported yet in the official release. This BETA supports my Canon 80D. But when I open a RAW which is shot in portrait, the image is nevertheless landscape. So I have to turn the image manually. A JPG of the same image is portrait though. (I take RAW + JPG images). A landscape images opens correct (RAW and JPG). Jurriën
  12. Onedrive collection of files - X3F, TIF, JPG First, when I open a .X3F that I shot portrait orientation, it's opening landscape. When I open a TIF generated from Sigma's software, it opens up correctly as portrait. Second, I am seeing some artifacts. It almost looks like noise but it's too uniform. The picture is muddy and has purple dots. Here's the tif for comparison: I did a JPEG export out of Affinity and it has the artifacts as well (But muddied further by jpeg compression/etc) Rotation/artifact screenshots are here: http://imgur.com/a/X23uN Onedrive is here: https://1drv.ms/f/s!ArciU0vVYB2QiWmyBYHTBFZ60Ee4
  13. Hi there. Thanks for a neat piece of software... I love how it will take raw files (Panasonic) and use them for panoramas... still yet to try the other features. Ok.. Loaded 11 Panasonic .RW2 Panorama assembled. Grid-lines selected from 'view' Using the 'thumbnail image' to move around the main image to look at details. And then the crash message as you see below: 0x0000005 No Crash Reference dialog appeared when Affinity restarted.
  14. I would like to see batch processing of raw files as in lightroon or Olympus 3. I believe to be competitive with photoshop, affinity needs the library or photo bin facility as well as cascading windows so users can compare at different zooms or clone from one image to another. I would also like to see the brushes for overlay accessible without moving from one tab and back again in RAW just as in lightroom or photo director. So far I am impressed with the stacking, HDR and panoramic usage and overall performance. I have had only one crash so far during a sharpening stage. TrevorGY
  15. Shooting raw with the sony a7ii. If i import the file into the app it turns purple and is barely recognizable let alone editable.
  16. I open a RAW file in AP, adjust it, select the Photo persona and am told I need to "commit" or cancel if I want to switch to another persona - there's a Develop button but no Commit button, so now I'm confused. This was mentioned over a year ago in the Mac beta forum so I assume people have decided there's a good reason for not changing the wording, but what is it? Searching the help file for commit shows that it's mentioned under "Developing a RAW image" but it isn't - the word doesn't appear. The help file includes the line "On the context toolbar, select Develop" - perhaps it could read something like "Commit the adjustments by selecting Develop on the context toolbar".
  17. Hi there. I´ve just instaled the Windows beta of Affinity Photo, and i am now trying to adapt my workflow. I would like to know how to open a group of images directly as layers. I´ve googled a little and tried to open as new stack (ctrl+alt+O) but in this way the layers are automatically anchored and mixed. I just want to open them as layers in order to work with them with adjustment layers and luminosity masks. How do I do it? Otherwise, fabulous work, congratulations. Thank you.
  18. When opening a DNG file into AffinityPhoto it is imported with many colored artifacts as shown in the attached 200% clip. This does not happen when importing the same photo into Lightroom. The photo is from a Canon Infrared converted camera producing RAW files in the DNG format (I can't upload the original file). In other respects, Affinity sems the handle the files correctly.
  19. Just installed Windows beta of Photo. Opened raw file and made adjustments. I can't for the life of me figure out how to save those raw adjustments. I click the Develop tab and the raw file is converted and dropped into the editor. I can save that file. BUT if I reopen the raw file I'm back at square 1 with the raw files sans any of the previous adjustments. What am I missing?
  20. I just started experimenting with the beat in Windows... and it took just a couple of minutes to understand why it's so well regarded :) So... now that Red has a 35 megapixel camera (well, three of them now, but they all save in R3D) with a stills mode, it seems reasonable at last to take advantage of a rather nice photo editing application to edit R3D stills... because if that happens, then I can consolidate my kit for travel into a single body. :)
  21. Hi there, I'm testing a raw image. Here's what I've noticed. It seems the highlights can be pushed only that much, whereas in Adobe Camera Raw I have more room. A few images below:
  22. Thank you for the surprisingly quick release of Photo Beta for Windows! I have a few questions / comments on RAW editing as a heavy user of Photoshop and its upstream ACR workspace. While I like that Serif actually chose a common interface for traditional photo-retouching / compositing as well as RAW developing there's also features I miss right away. Photoshop's RAW development allows for global editing of image properties – pretty much in the way the Develop Persona works. That way one can raise the exposure or increase contrast – changes do apply to the whole image. Apart from that one may use any combination of tools for non-destructive brush based operations, as well as graduated filters. The impact of any contributing tool may get changed at any point in time. Even after bringing the edited RAW image into the main PS application as a smart object and having worked for hours in a composition, one can still go back and each and any global, operation as well as brush based RAW operations are still Life. One at that point can even delete the original RAW file, as it has completely gotten embedded into the .psd. If so desired, one could strip out any changes and export to .dng again. The Affinity RAW editor seems not to have any of the tools I just described. Also, RAW development in Affinity seems to be understood as the first step in a linear stream of editing operations. One may of course re-enter the Develop workspace, but all tools have forgotten the settings one had dialed in initially. I wonder what your plans are in terms of RAW editing: Do you plan to keep Develop-setting Live? Is non-destructive brush / gradient-based editing with any combination of tools on the roadmap? I also wonder what happens if one uses a couple of RAW based images on a large Poster. In Photoshop one may use these images at their full size or as a thumbnail. But one can scale that thumbnail up again or paste it into a new file and raise the output size here. As the RAW information is encapsulated in the Smart Object one never loses resolution. Obviously one shouldn't go larger that the original RAW but for all smaller output sizes one can practically forget about resolution issues. Is there a similar solution inside Affinity Photo?
  23. Why and which raw engine should I choose in Affinity Photo to process Canon .cr2 raw files for best results? Where do I choose it? (After searching the forum without answers; sorry if I'm wrong). Thank you very much.
  24. Hi, I can't seem to find an easy way to adjust the tint and temperature of a photo while in the Develop Persona. White balance allows for +/- between blue and orange or red. Is there any way to do this without adjusting individual curves? Thanks!
