  1. I would like you to make exporting Outline FX as a separate element possible. Some FX can be exported as a separate element such as Outer Glow or Outer Shadow. Outline can be done the same I think. So the object itself that has Outline FX won't be rasterized and it could be more useful.
  2. I purchased Affinity Photo for multi-layered pixel art creation, but I'm finding that I cannot use the Merge Layers or Rasterize layer features because they automatically choose a filtering algorithm which causes blurring. How can I fix this? This currently is a deal-breaker for me unfortunately. I've tried the following: Using Nearest rendering in the Performance settings (this causes everything to look as I expect on the canvas while editing the document, but the blurring problem occurs as soon as a multi-layer document is merged, exported/flattened, or a layer is rasterized) Choosing Nearest filtering during PNG export. For some scenarios this appears to work around the issue, but for general purposes it's not a solution since I frequently need to be able to merge selected layers together as part of my workflow without exporting the entire document I still cannot find any way to merge layers or rasterize selected layers using Nearest filtering. The result is that my artwork frequently is distorted/blurred from what I'm seeing in the on-screen canvas/display. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide
  3. Would be nice if the Rasterize command could rasterize all selected layers at once individually.(no merge) Same goes for the Rasterize & Trim command. I know this has been requested by other users many times.
  4. I know gradient mesh is not available in Affinity yet. But would be nice if Affinity could import gradient mesh fill (created in Illustrator) in PDF by rasterizing it. Or an option to choose what to do is also fine.
  5. Hey, I have been working a few times with files with lots of images. I sometimes don't want to compress them before I am sure of how big they will be in the layout, so I add them in original resolution. Once I am done with the placement, I would like to rasterize them. But when I select multiple images and click "rasterize", only a single one of them is rasterized. It would seem logical to me that the operation applies to the entire selection. Alternatively would be a option "rasterize all images". This way, once you have all images the size you want them, you can rasterize them all in one click and drastically reduce the file size. Greets!
  6. Hi, is it possible to rasterize all content except text in a PDF export so that the text remains selectable in the document but all vector graphics have been converted to raster graphics? Thanks in advance!
  7. I don’t know how difficult it is to make it possible to save PSD files with editable text layers instead of rasterizing them. This is the one feature that keeps me from doing my design work totally on my iPad without Photoshop. I have a client that needs the ability to edit the text before it goes to print because of data that is not available when I’m working on the job (ie product catalog numbers). So my current workflow is I do all of the design layout, drawing, photo editing on my iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil, then export as a PSD, and then add all the text layers in Photoshop on my laptop. Of course there may not be a high demand for this feature.
  8. Hi, I don't know if this is a bug but Affinity Photo 1.9.1 is doing something I don't expect. When I create a Vector object and set the Blend Antialias to Off, it removes the antialiases. If I export that to PNG, the export does not contain antialiases. However, if I Rasterize the vector, I get antialiases even though they are not displayed. To work around it, I have been exporting vectors as PNG and bringing them back in. But this is a pain in the butt. Is it possible for Rasterize to obey the Antialias setting? Or is there something that I'm missing? Thanks. James PS: This might be the same in Affinity Designer as well but I haven't checked.
  9. Hey, I want to create a halftone version of an image. Seems only way to do this is by using Live Halftone filter? I am no expert, but I think it is safe to say that the halftone filter is not working as expected. Comments on the images themselves as well. This is a close-up of a detail in the picture, with no pixel view mode selected. Clearly, the white is entirely white - there are no real half toning going on here that is worth conserving in the exported image. Zooming a bit out, the halftone fill for the white remains the same size as in the first image; now a bit more visible. Enabling pixel view mode, the white is filled - as if it is gray. This is how the PNG export looks like. Which of course is completely useless. And white is there a completely white halo around the desired halftone pattern? Again with pixel view mode disabled, the white even is no clearly no longer white - despite the first image showing no such contrast. Same image with pixel view mode enabled, clearly making the issue even worse. I have no idea how to work around this, or how to "bake" the halftone at a certain zoom level - if that is possible? I need to fix this, as what I have tried so far results in rasterised exports (PNG, JPG, etc) that are completely useless to me. Am I doing this all wrong? Thanks, Johan
  10. This is sort of a follow-up to some of my posts (ff.) in the "Can anyone recommend an acrobat pro alternative" thread. I have now made a few apples-to-apples comparison tests on how exactly Affinity (Designer 1.9.1, but it affects all three apps) handles PDF/X-3 and X-4 export when it contains vector objects and text with transparency or transparent gradients. Then I have used exactly the same vector and text objects with exactly the same values in Illustrator CS5 and exported ("saved as", in fact) as PDF/X-3 and X-4 as well. In both cases I was using strictly the default export presets. To sum up in advance: PDF/X-3 export from Affinity under these given conditions is absolutely pathetic. Sigh… Original files: Exhibit 1: transptest19f27.afdesign.zip Exhibit 2: transptest19f27.ai.zip Both CMYK with Fogra27 profile for consistency. Note that the AI gradient algorithm doesn't exactly match Affinity's – don't know why, I'm not a mathematician – so the appearance is slightly different but that's beside the point here. For illustration, here's how the documents looks like: PDF/X-3 export: Exhibit 3: transptest19f27-x3-ade.pdf = PDF/X-3 export from ADe Exhibit 4: transptest19f27-x3-ai.pdf = PDF/X-3 export from AI CS5 The difference how each app handles transparencies is striking: Affinity rasterizes everything underneath a transparency to a flat pixel layer. Only in some instances it at least tries to do the right thing, i.e. converts e.g. text to curves and uses those as a vector clipping mask for a pixel rectangle instead of attempting to anti-alias everything as a plain image: But the other image layers usually look like a screenshot, only worse, because screenshots are usually losslessly compressed whereas Affinity's default PDF/X-3 preset "allows JPEG compression" with "quality 98" – which sounds like a lot, but it will introduce JPEG artifacts when applied to vector objects. And not to stop there, if there's a transparent gradient involved, it "forgets" to apply anti-aliasing to the text with transparency underneath: And as if not enough, even though black is set to overprint in the PDF/X-3 preset, the part under the transparent gradient does not respect it and partially knocks out CMY which means the colors of the "overpri" part are incorrect: Illustrator is smart enough to dissect (boolean divide, I guess) each object underneath a transparency into common "denominators". Where possible, it will retain every single piece as a vector object, thus retaining full scalability without artifacts or anti-aliasing. Where not possible or too complex, it will create simple bitmap image rectangles using the exact gradient involved in that area, then use the original vector curves (or text converted to curves) as a clipping mask. (There are multiple nested clipping curve instances "just in case" or something.) No jagged or antialiased edges whatsoever. Black text overprint consequently respected, even in those clipped parts with pixel gradients. Here the PDF/X-3 as exported from AI CS5 and reimported into ADe for inspection, where I have disabled some of the clipping paths for demonstration how the pixel gradient rectangle looks like: Frankly, the "Affinity way" frustrates me. PDF/X-4 export: On the positive side, in my very example the PDF/X-4 export looks pretty good. Exhibit 5: transptest19f27-x4-ade.pdf Exhibit 6: transptest19f27-x4-ai.pdf Conclusion: Sadly, for proper PDF/X-3 export when transparencies are involved, InDesign or Illustrator will have to remain part of my workflow for the time being, for as long as I haven't moved to MacOS Catalina and beyond: design/layout in Affinity export PDF/X-4 place in InDesign or Illustrator export PDF/X-3 ~~~ Serif, please fix it! thanks
  11. Hi, so I have quite a strange issue. I was making a logo for my friends winery. I painted it and then digitalized it so she would get vector to use right. I was just in Designer persona for vectors using brushes from this library. The issue is that when I am in the affinity designer the logo itself looks ready, with transparent background etc. but when I export it to eps, white backgrounds behind the shapes appear. I was doing a little research, ticked all the boxes which was supposed to be ticked nothing helped. Then I tried to put the bad eps file back to Affinity and see what is the problem. What I found out is that some of the curves changed to images. When I tried to delete the "white squares" it will automatically delete part of the logo and it is just such a mess. I was wondering if that is because I though I used vector brushes but it somehow transferred to pixel brushes? The thing is it took me a lots of time to find out how to digitalize the painting itself and it was painted with watercolors which was hard to imitate. I was so happy when I finally found out that I can make it in affinity with the vector brushes but now I cant export it. My friend will use the logo in a big size to be printed on a wood. To understand how it was made maybe it will be clear why this is happening for somebody else. I used curves to make the outlines of all the shapes than filled them with color and then I used a mask layer for the filled ones, where I was using vector brushes to imitate the "texture" so It would not be so flat just with a plain color and look like it was painted. I tried to change the option as well for the eps but it resulted in loosing the strokes sizes. i tried to put it in Illustrator as well but the same thing appearing. If somebody knows what to do with it that would be awesome. UPDATE: I tried to just basic shape and the same mask with brush as I used in the logo and it has the same problem. When I export it and put it back it has the white background and it is rasterized. Second option to export it without rasterizing at all results in that the used watercolor vector brush is just black.. So that means it has problem export the vector brushes like vector and it rasterizes them - which i do not get, when it is a VECTOR brush. Or maybe I am idiot and understand the base of vector brushes badly? Here some pictures so you can see what I meant. This is finished logo for export All the layers are curves in this EPS version put back in Aff - curves became images This is to show you how was it made - basic shape filled with basic color and then mask with just brush stroke to make the texture This is the last option I tried but it resulted in the image below - all the stroke sizes, option, brushes deleted. 12. Hello there. I'm learning how to design with Affinity Designer, the desktop version. I hit a snag and in need of a bit of guidance on how to rasterize a texture from a photo that then can be edited and used as an overlay to add texture to my designs. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance to solve the case! :) Caryn
  13. Hi, I'm experiencing this issue: I have an image clipped inside a rectangle (mask), and the rectangle also have a stroke set. When exporting, or rasterizing the layer artifacts appear on the image edge, it looks like there is some computation error in the subdivision. To reproduce just open the attached Test.affinity and export in Tiff with default settings. Additional info, the issue happens when the clipping mask stroke is set to be inside, see stroke setting pic. Affinity Photo version 1.7.2 release, issue reproduces both on macOS and iPadOS Test.afdesign Test.tiff
  14. Why, when exporting an Affinity Publisher document to PDF, a specific page is completely rasterized (texts, vector graphics, etc.), and the other pages keep texts as texts and vector graphics as such? I need the texts to be kept as texts and the vector graphics as vector graphics, because if I export to a small PDF, if the text is rasterized in low resolution, it is almost unreadable and it looks ugly. Anyone ever happened something similar?
  15. Would be nice if you could add dpi option to choose specific dpi without chancing document's dpi.
  16. I searched all over and could not find any issues reported similar to this so not sure if Affinity team is aware of it. Essentially when I rasterize a group of layers that are in a folder group (usually these layers were scaled down and there are multiple grouped together) some odd raster effects appear. What is even more odd if I undo the raster operation then right click and raster again it completely fixes the issue. If I undo the operation but use the history panel instead and apply the first raster I did the same issue will appear. I am not sure how redoing the same raster operation fixes the issue but here is what is looks like: Incorrect first raster where it is all pixelated: (sometimes it makes it half pixelated) Undoing the raster and re-applying it fixes the issue where everything appears smooth: I have plenty of memory and with the affinity project file open its only using 16% of my ram and 0% cpu usage so I don't think its a processing power issue where it cannot raster correctly. I am using Affinity Photo windows version 1.8.3.641 I have to constantly re-check everything I raster becasue this seems to happen almost 70% of the time especially for images in groups that were scaled down. I don't think its a particular file format either as I've seen it occur with SVG and PNG files in the same grouped folder and it randomly will affect different ones in a raster.
  17. Is it possible to truly disable dithering for gradients? I only found the option in the performance settings, which is however limited to the preview rather than the final result. Meaning as soon as the gradient/s in question are rasterised the dithering is back on, which leads to undesirable results. (Preview) (Rasterized/Exported)
  18. Hi Everyone, My Explanation: I'm new to Affinity programs and I'm in the process of preparing all of my PSD files for Affinity Designer & Photo. I've been using Adobe Photoshop for a long time during that time I have created a lot "Smart Objects" within my files. Yesterday, in adobe photoshop, I spent two hours preparing my main device templates and eight hours preparing one single file to be imported and used in Affinity Designer. I went into each smart object individually and pulled the full resolution images, shapes, etc.. and placed them on a separate artboard in the main file. Below is an example of a simple template that has multiple layers of smart objects. This example has several instances of 3 layers of smart objects. Even though that doesn't add up to too many smart objects in this file I have lots of files that are similar, or even more complex, and the method that I have been using is incredibly time-consuming. My question: Has anyone found a better way of preparing smart objects, or assets within smart objects, for Affinity Designer & Photo?
  19. Hello everyone! I've been trying to edit some PSDs sent by the company designer and I just can't edit anything. Every layer is as "Pixel" - my first thought was that I hadn't the fonts packages, but after installing nothing changed If anyone can help me with this - I couldn't find any answers yet and I don't know if is something related to settings or anything more complex - the same image opens normally in other laptops.
  20. I want to take a page from a PDF and rasterize it for use in a brochure. I used to be able to do this in photoshop. When I open the pdf in Photo or Designer, it loads an editable version, and since I don't have the fonts for this document, it looks really bad.
  21. Hi all, Is there a way to revert a layer that has been converted to mask using Rasterize to Mask into a normal layer? Cheers, Juan
  22. in the screen shot you can see the two lines for "rasterize" under layer?
  23. Hey everyone! It would be great if there was an option within the export persona to make, for example, this: Group A (Group) Group 1 (Group) Shape 1 (Vector) Shape 2 (Vector) Group 2 (Group) Shape 3 (Vector) Shape 4 (Vector) Group 3 (Group) Shape 5 (Vector) Shape 6 (Vector) Group 4 (Group) Shape 7 (Vector) Shape 8 (Vector) Group B (Group) Shape 9 (Vector) to that: Group A (Group) Group 1 (Pixels) Group 2 (Pixels) Group 3 (Pixels) Group 4 (Pixels) Group B (Group) Shape 9 (Pixels) Best wishes, Shu
  24. Hey everyone! Right now, rastering layers can be a tedious task, which I noticed when I needed to rasterize >100 locked layers, because - only one layer can be rasterized at a time - rasterizing removes layer locks. This behaviour is the same for Designer and Photo on iOS as well as on macOS. It would be useful if multiple selected layers could be rasterized and if the layer lock could be preserved. Best wishes, Shu
  25. Dear developers, I have a little problem with background rasterize: if I no use Picture box, just place an image, and I use bleed, then rasterize function not working correctly: image will rasterize to cropped size, not to bleed. Need rasterize to real size + bleed, because after crop base, leave a line, if cropping not exactly.
