  1. Is there a possibility in levels to control the colour clipping separately by colours? I just see the clipping in master level with pressing ALT while using the sliders. This doesn't work in RGB colours separately - but would be extremely helpful.
  2. What I want to do is apply an unsharp mask in Lab mode on only a and b channels, is this possible? In photoshop (desktop) I would convert to Lab, select the a and b channels, apply an unsharp mask with a large radius (say 80px) then convert back to RGB edit: figured it out finally, tap document icon with three dots then convert document, then it shows up at the bottom
  3. Hi, there is significant colour inconsistency by conversion from RGB to CMYK via the adjustment layer and document setup. The soft proof adjustment layer produces different colours than the same rendering intent through document setup dialog box. See my video. Colours in video are shifted a bit, but the issue is visible. Am I doing something wrong or is there some different renderig on background when using document setup conversion? I'm not sure if the adjustment layer has smaller gamut or the luminosity differs, but CMYK colours after document colour conversion looks for me a bit better. RGB to CMYK.mov
  4. By now I've learned enough about Affinity Publisher that I'm ready to create a small book of photographs to be printed by an online book service that uses a four-color process. I have just noticed something in creating a template, which I first set up in CMYK color space using the default color profile for CMYK: In Publisher's dialog shown via File > Document Setup, there an option to select "Assign" or "Convert." However, the option to select Assign, versus Convert, does not appear in the dialog displayed via File > New. Thus the option appears only after you've created the document. I assume these terms have the same meaning here as they do within a program like Photoshop—what should the program do color-space-wise when an image is opened or placed? Is this option's absence from File > New intentional? If so why would that be? Whichever option is selected—Assign versus Convert—what is the effect when placing images exported from a RAW editor in, say, sRGB or Adobe RGB once they are imported into the document? There doesn't seem to be any "leave in native color space" option—it's assign or convert. The purpose of selecting CMYK is that the book company requests that text be in CMYK color space. This is presumably to avoid "full" black which can cause problems on the press. But now I am wondering if this kind of document should be in an RGB color space throughout its creation, and then converted to CMYK on export to PDF—with Publisher instructed to leave images in their native color space at that time. Advice much appreciated.
  5. My first goal in learning Affinity Publisher is to make a few small books of photographs—my own, and friends' photographs. After seeing a photographer's enthusiastic endorsements of a service called MagCloud (a division of Blurb) I decided to give that company a try. They have packages that enable you to make very short books at low cost—a good way to experiment. From what I've seen of the photographer's samples on the MagCloud site, they do a good job, including with black and white images. MagCloud doesn't offer a template in Publisher format, but creating probably wouldn't be difficult even for a newbie like me. My major point of confusion has to do with their color space requirements. My source images will be exported as 8- or 16-bit TIFF files from a raw converter (Capture One), likely converted to sRGB—I don't know if Adobe RGB would be overkill in this case. Friends' photographs will all be JPEGs—again, sRGB. MagCloud states that they expect RGB image files, but insist that all typography must be done "in CMYK color space" (their wording). I don't know why they insist on it. After all, they also say their process converts the entire PDF submitted to them to CMYK before they print the work. How to proceed here? If I start with a new Affinity Publisher document set to CMYK, what happens to RGB images placed within it? Does Publisher immediately convert them to CMYK? Or do they remain in the RGB color space? (I know already that Publisher has an option, when exporting to PDF, to convert to CMYK while still preserving the images' existing color spaces. Or would it be better to stick with RGB all the way through and simply blend colors using the CMYK sliders within Publisher*? MagCloud's own tech support people don't seem to be able to explain these things very well, so I haven't heard yet why they insist on CMYK for just the text within the source document. It might have to do with a need to specify something other than "hard" black for the typography. Apparently the four-color process doesn't like "hard" black. But the reasons for their requirement remain a bit murky. (They also say they don't support spot colors. This also makes me wonder what rendering intent I should choose, assuming Publisher has that option during exporting.) - - - - - - - * But surely setting color values that way isn't the same as converting a document to CMYK.
  6. AP Color sliders can be changed to see the reference RGB Hex #. My question: Is there a way in Swatches Panel to type the known Hex values to add the color to the Swatches Palette? This is a very simple process in Procreate Swatches to add colors to the Swatches Palette. Type Hex number, click color and it's added, maximum 30 per Swatches Palette.
  7. Hey! I am really happy with the new 1.8 versions! Thank you so much, guys! Till now I have only found this odd thing (in all three apps the same). I guess the color format should update accordingly to the preset (print with CMYK and the rest with RGB) - at least at the start up until I change it manually: Just wanted to tell you - nothing bad I think. All the best Chris
  8. The color picker found in the Add Global Color dialog dialog only picks colours in RGB, independently of the document color space. Steps to reproduce: Create a new CMYK document Create a new object on the page, for example a rectangle with C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:20 Open the Swatches panel From the Swatches panel flyout menu, chose Add Global Color Use the color picker found next to the drop down menu to pick the color from the rectangle Notice the color value is expressed in RGB rather than CMYK Thanks!
  9. In Affinity starting with an RGB value of (100,100,100) translates to a CMYK value of (60,52,52,21). -> Why so much cyan ? -> Why is it different than this ? (here or here) -> If I plug the CMYK (60,52,52,21) in reverse here I get rgb(80,95,95) with a cyan tint, but affinity says rgb (102,100,100). Why ? In the attached file the color format is set to CMYK with profile (US Web coated SWOP v2). -> Exporting the file to PNG gives me correct result (exactly as shown on screen) -> Exporting to JPEG with color profile included gives me a cyan tint. Why ? (it doesn't include the profile after all ?) ColorTest.afdesign
  10. I am preparing a print book with color images for IngramSpark using Affinity Publisher. I must be absolutely certain that images in the PDF I submit to IngramSpark are CMYK. How can I confirm this for sure? If I open the PDF in AP using "DPI: Estimate" and "Color space: Estimate" and then check image properties with the Resource Manager, does this show the color space of the image in the PDF correctly? My concern is that opening the PDF in AP may change the image color space to a default preference.
  11. I am working changing the Sofware from the A.Designer to A.Photo, but when I do this the color in Affinity Designer are different of what it must, I attach a Video where I show this issue, and I put it here becuase sometimes when I export an image from A.Designer, it change the color and I already check all the options to corroborate that all are the same whit Affinity Photo and they are. 12. Hi Everyone, In the need to understand the sometimes complex subject of Color Models, Color Spaces and Color Profiles better, I found it hard to find a nice to read and complete source on the matter. So after I did a deep dive into the subject I decided to share what I've learned about it by writing a tutorial blog about it with illustrations and interactives. Yesterday I published part one about Color Models and color basics, to pave the way to Color Spaces for the next and last part of the article. Although not directly Affinity related, I figured this could benefit other Affinity users too in understanding Color Spaces better and when to choose which in Designer and Photo. And making Color Spaces a little less confusing to understand. Of coarse all graphics-work for illustrations and interactives in the tutorial are made in Affinity Designer. The blog is available in both Dutch (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/blog/wat-zijn-color-models/) and translated in English (https://www.wigglepixel.nl/en/blog/what-are-color-models/). Hope you like it and if this makes others understand the subject better and as enthousiastic as I am now about it after this, I reached my goal! Maarten
  13. Hi, I got some kind of a problem in Affinity Photo on Windows and also recognized that "problem" in Affinity Photo for iPad. I got 2 different documents, one already finished and the other one is the document I'm working on. I'm using the color picker tool in the document that's already finished to see what the color values are in RGB, then I type the same color values in, but I don't get the color I had in the other document. I got the same values for the RGB color space but I get different colors out of it.
  14. Hello I am used to being able to check the black point and the white point per color in the diagram when I change the tonal value per color channel in RGB mode. Is this also possible in the iPad? On the desktop this is perfectly possible with the tonal value correction! Thanks for a tip
  15. Hello, when I place a rgb-photo into a cmyk-document, is it correkt, that Affinity Photo converts automaticly the photo into the cmyk-modus? Greetings Frank
  16. Hi, I'm fairly new to Affinity Designer Beta and I'm having issues with RGB codes (running it on a Macbook). When I try to retrieve an RGB hex code from the color tab ("RGB Hex sliders") the code shown is incorrect. The code is accurate in Affinity Designer when I copy and paste the same vector shape onto a document there, however. (see attached images). I've checked for updates and my Beta is 1.7.0, which says that there are no updates I haven't done. Wondering if anyone had a similar problem and if they were able to solve it? Thanks!
  17. Sometimes I help companies with print ads. Today I received an ad and it had colour format CMYK/8, but when I exported it to PDF and send it to the newspaper I got the following error message: "RGB color is used for transparency group". The newspaper does not allow RGB at all, only CMYK, in ads. I found the "problem", a transparent rectangle that I attach to this thread. I can not find how to change the transparency from RGB to CMYK for this vector i Affinity Designer. How do I change the transparency from RGB to CMYK? test.afdesign
  18. Hi, I've been working on a document in 32 bit mode, then started to add filters then this artefact appeared but this disappeared when downgraded to 16bit. I presume it is software bug? Kind Regards C Wolland 2017-03-16 artifact.afphoto
  19. Hey guys, yes i know something similar has been asked before but all the other posts I have seen didn't answer my question. I understand that converting RGB to CMYK withhout color differences won't always be possible since the color garmut of RGB is a lot bigger than the one for CMYK. What I don't understand is: If i try to do it the other way (CMYK to RGB) shouldn't it be possible to get the same color in RGB as I have in CMYK? Maybe you can also tell me how you handle it if your client needs a logo in RGB and in CMYK colors and wants them to be similar. Thanks a lot in advance can't wait to hear your replies. Greetings, Julian Icon_Farbe.pdf Icon_Farbe.pdf
  20. Hi I have converted an image supplied in RGB to greyscale, to place in a book of (overwhelmingly) text, but no matter what I seem to do, when I export to PDF it seems to convert back to RGB. I am trying to export so everything is on one plate for printing. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug, (or something in development). Everything else seems to be working pretty well - so thank you Affinity! Would be glad of any advice. Best Westrow
  21. Hello. I’m at a loss.... I’ve been trying this find a way to adjust skin tones in my images by adjusting the RGB values of the original image to standard RGB values for flesh tones. I can’t for the life of me find a way to replace one RGB value in the image to another. I’m using Affinity Photo for desktop and iPad (both). So a way to do it in either would be greatly appreciated! Help!
  22. I looked in the forums and google but i couldn't really find a solid answer. Im working on an album cover and normally for all my work (regardless of if i plan to print or not i) just set it to "print" when i open a new document. I may have fiddled a bit with the profiles in the past but i cant remember what the default is. does it make any difference?
  23. hello: is possible Display the color space in the top of the document in both programs (like photoshop)?
  24. I have some stock AI files that I purchased from a stock library and when I open them in Affinity Designer, all the colour shift from what I'm wanting them to be. I can't figure out how to shift them back! When the files are opened, I get a message popping up saying a profile has been applied to the unprofiled document. It applies US Web Coated SWOP v2. Is there a way to change what profile is applied by default? What am I supposed to be doing? I have been to the document setup panel and tried both assigning a profile, and also converting to a profile, but the colours always remain the same and don't match the colours of the same file when opened in any other applications. Here is the same file opened in Designer and Photoshop. This is a drastic colour shift that I can't understand.
