  1. I'm sending a pdf to Ingram Spark to have a softcover book printed. I want one blank page between the book cover and the title page, which is supposed to fall on the right hand side (recto). Can anyone who's printed with Ingram Spark please let me know which one of these two layouts in the screenshots below will produce the results I want? Thanks for your help.
  2. Hola: trabajando con textos encuentro extraño el comportamiento de la partición de palabras en español. En el texto de muestra de arriba del archivo que adjunto no se da ni un solo caso de partición teniendo diccionario de español activado y partición con guiones. En la parte de abajo (el mismo texto en 2 columnas) creo que solo se da la partición de una palabra creando en el texto justificado unos huecos entre palabras bastante feos. ¿Sabéis de algún truco para que parta mejor las palabras. He hecho también desde un pdf de indesign una conversión a publisher y no parte ni una sola palabra tras la conversión y estoy hablando de más de 300 páginas. ¿Es un error que habéis notado? Adjunto archivo de publisher 2.5.3. de una página a modo de ejemplo. Ni subiendo el cuerpo, ni bajando el tamaño de la letra consigo la partición razonable de las palabras.   4. Hi, I am totally new so sorry... I placed a 300-page Word document into the publisher. The master pages do not contain text frames. After importing the document, I managed to arrange the endnotes and footnotes. However, I realized that the publisher merges all footnotes with endnotes. Several times, I started over, selecting the footnote numbers and converting them to footnotes. However, I don't know how or when, but all footnotes merged with endnotes again. I tried to remove the imported footnotes and recreate them, but it didn't work. Additionally, when I try to edit the footnote text style, it merges footnotes with endnotes during the style editing process. (I guess this is happening if I try to edit other styles as well I'm not sure yet) I'm so busy and in a stressful position so I can't share any material here for now. I wanted to ask this issue because I thought that maybe it was a known issue... What is the problem here? or what may cause this? Thank you (macOS - Affinity Publisher 2.5.3)

  6. I've been using Publisher v1 for some years to produce a newsletter for a charity and all has been fine, with no need to upgrade to v2. However, today I tried to open a file (Windows 10, APub 1.10.6) and the app just froze, saying "loading 1 file" but with no apparent activity. After a while, it used 11% cpu, but there was no disk activity and the other apps running were also almost comatose! I tried other files and various suggestions from the FB Affinity Publisher group, plus my own ideas (repairing, uninstalling, reinstalling interspersed with reboots), but nothing I've done has made any difference. I've no objection to upgrading to v2, but I didn't see a need. However, one of the comments in FB was that the suite is available free to registered charities, so I looked but only saw a comment about that happening in the future. Please could you advise me on how to investigate this promptly, as I have a deadline to meet? Thanks, Sam
  7. Hi, I'm adding a curves adjustment layer inside an image frame to affect only the framed image. The frame itself is placed in a master page but the images are different in every single page. I also add a different curves layer in every page (not in the master page). Right after adding it I can adjust the curve but after closing the curves window I cannot edit it again, a blank pop up window appears (see attached screenshot). The curves layer becomes impossible to delete, edit or hide after this. This happens with the other kinds of adjustment layers as well. Is there a fix in the pipeline for this bug? I've just upgraded from v1 because another bug and now I find this one in v2. I love the Affinity suite but this little things are frustrating.
  8. I'm mostly happy with Publisher, but there's one thing I'm missing so bad. The lack of a propper object/text frame style to me is just frustrating. I searched for solutions, but all the workarounds, like using non editable styles, are just silly. Imagine having many pages and a lot of text frames with let's say borders, background colors and even effects like shadows or whatever. So now you create all that once, save it as a style, then you've to apply it from your styles on all pages for every frame you like and when you wanna change just one bit in hindsight, you've to do it all over again for every f'n frame. As much as I love Publisher, that's the one thing where I can't wrap my head around. How can this even be missing from day one, when it's fundamental like text and paragraph styles? We need a real object/text frame style and no less. So I hope many of you will jump with me on the Crying Train ... ALL ABOAAAAARD... HA HA HA HA HA HA! 😈 Crazy... but that's how it goes millions of text frames but no edit shows. Maybe... it's not too late for propper text frame styles one click -> it creates!
  9. Hi, I would like to know how to add cell margins to my text frame in publisher. The text is flush against the bounding box which I find visually annoying and text can be hidden by the arrow or dot on the boundary. Is there a simple way to do this please? Thanks
  10. Affinity Crash - 2.mp4 I did a full and mini dumps of the crash using SysInternals' PROCDUMP if support wants them, I just need a place to send them. The full dump is huge. I may try to going back to the previous version, if that is possible, I haven't tried. Craig Gunhouse

When constructing a document, I often have a need to access a prior version of a similar document (magazine issues) to grab a piece of text, a value from a layer's "Transform" settings, check the color value of text, etc. I typically lock all of the layers of a magazine document just prior to generating the press-ready PDF, to reduce the chances of that document being accidentally edited by me afterward, but I've found that locking the layers not only prevent me from making changes (this is why I locked the layers in the first place), but the locking also prevents me from copying text or related parameters. Is there a way to lock layers but still allow for copying contents and properties? Currently, I have to unlock the appropriate layer to access the data, and then do a number of "undo" operations to restore the document back to its prior state. A related question is why, after using "undo" to undo all of the unlocks (and possible other operations) that I've done, am I still prompted with the "Save | Cancel" dialog when attempting to close the document. I can understand why this dialog would appear if, instead of undo-ing my way out of all of my changes, I explicitly relocked the layers (instead of undoing the "unlocks"), since this would introduce changes, but it would seem to me that undoing all changes made since opening the document, the document's "dirty flag" would have been turned off, allowing me to close the document without being alerted that the "document has been changed". Is something going on "under the covers", such as autosaving, that is causing this to occur? Thanks, Ken

Dear Affinity Users and Developers We’re just in the process of evaluating Affinity Publisher (tested with and and we’ve come upon a problem with the PDF/X export: In our workflow our print PDF files are checked in Adobe Acrobat against the preflight profile PDFX-ready Sheetfed Offset Classic HQ V1.5. Among other things this profile checks the MD5 checksums of the used ICC profile against a pre-defined list of profiles known to be appropriate for offset printing. When exporting a PDF as PDF/X-1a with the ICC profile ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI) from Affinity Publisher the preflight returns this error: Looking at the preflight report in the section Output Intents I noticed a difference between a PDF exported from InDesign and Affinity Publisher: The Output Intent is stated as ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI) for the InDesign-PDF and as ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI) (Custom) for Affinity Publisher The Color Management Module had a value of HDM (InDesign) and lcms (Affinity Publisher). Primäre Zielplattform (in English probably: Primary Target Platform): empty (InDesign) and Apple Computer, Inc. (APPL) (Affinity Publisher) Profil erstellt mit (in English probably: Profile created with): Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HDM ) (InDesign) and lcms (Affinity Publisher) The other fields were the same in both files. So I suspected this to be the reason for the different MD5 checksums. But not being an expert on the ins and outs of PDFs and colour management I turned to HilfDirSelbst.ch where we discussed this (in German) in this thread. Olaf Drümmer of callas concluded (my translation): So the question is Is Affinity Publisher correct in changing the meta-data of the profile when writing the PDF file? And if so: Would PDFX-ready need to append their list of MD5 checksums to include those of profiles created with lcms? Any insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Best phph
  13. Font Manager seems to visually change the document, but I can't find a way to make a permanent change. (Interesting that the substitution is saved and applied to all documents.) I thought it was an issue with an imported PDF but the attached screenshot is of a native afpub. (Mac OS 10.14.5, Publisher 1.7.1)
  14. 🚨🚨🚨 Hi. After updating / then clean installing / deleting all the pref-files, Publisher 2.5 keeps freezing after opening a file from 2.4. Furthermore, when creating and saving a new file, the same happens as well: first the mac-speeding-wheel and then the frozen application. Strangely, before the update, the beta 2.5 worked fine. I am lost now, as I cannot work at all today until this is fixed.
  15. I have several png QR codes (set to only K) in my layout and they are really crisp no matter the zoom in affinity(2.4). As soon as I export the layout to CMYK they get washed out in the exported PDF. I am clueless what to do, as I really don't have the time to replace every QRc with a SVG version. Any tips? Is this a bug, because I remember png QR codes always were easy to migrate to cmyk with the k only option.
  16. I would like to be able to add my own name in the Pages panel to existing names Page 1, Page 2 ... If we create a dozen or several dozen pages, it is easier to find logically signed pages, not just Page 1 or other. This should be done exactly as you would now add your own names to objects in the Layers panel.
  17. Hi, I can see there IS an option for this, but I can't find it. I've a heading title which in the document is split over three lines - and obviously I just want this on one line in the toc. And I've found in the help section that there is the option to edit the TOC style to "Remove line breaks—check to replace line breaks with a space in the TOC. For example, headings with line breaks will appear as single-line TOC entries." But I can't see it. Is this under 'Flow'? Sorry for the idiot question!
  18. StrixCZ posted a similar question a year ago, but got no response. So, here I go. The file sizes created by Affinity 1.10.8 are ridiculous, and will most likely prevent me from saying goodbye to Adobe Cloud! I've spent hours trying to figure out why an InDesign document is 3.7 MB (with a 17 x 11 PSD placed for the image) and the exact document created from scratch in Publisher is 14.6 MB (using a jpeg NOT the PSD file. The PDFs created by Publisher are also incredibly HUGE. I first imported the IDML; Publisher file created was 30.5 MB. Then, I imported the PDF created using InDesign, that file is 27.4 MB. I am glad I have not upgraded to Affinity suite 2.0, as it looks like ther is no way I can use Publisher with my workflow. All CMYK. I publish a 12" x 24" calendar, and the PDF created by Publisher is 221 MB, yet the PDF created by InDesign is 60 MB! So unhappy about this, but those file sizes make it impossible to use the Affinity suite for the amount of work I do - I also create a digital magazine, and the .AFPUB files are much much larger than my .INDD files.
  19. Can I make a dust jacket with Publisher? That is, a front cover, spine, back cover, and flips on both front and back. If yes, how? Is there any template that includes five sections mentioned above? My book content is based on A4 paper. I understand the hard cover and dust jacket will be slightly larger. I wouldn't know the exact measurements but it would be better if I could play around with photos and words and design the jacket, at least.
  20. Ability to create QR Codes would be a nice feature. PagePlus can do that, so maybe that function could somewhat easily get transferred to Publisher?

  22. Hello again guys! How are you? This time I wanted to tell you about a silly but important problem I have to solve. I'm trying to insert the page numbering using the master My document is a coloring book, so it has the following structure 1 [Blank page] 2 [Coloring image 1] >> (I want to have the numbering here: Page 1) 3 [Blank page] 4 [Coloring image 2] >> (I want to have the numbering here: Page 2) .... And so on until you reach about 100 Structure in image: What do I want to do? Number each page where the image is, (and I should ignore the blank pages). But the problem is that using the master in affinity, when I insert the pagination in the even pages, affinity starts counting all the pages, even the odd ones (in my case the pages that are blank). Is there any way from affinity to start the count only with the odd pages? The only solution I found was to do it with a python script, but I'm sure it would be very easy to integrate this in a function directly from affinity. I should mention that some users on telegram told me they had had this problem and found no solution. I would like you to help me with some automated solution, I don't want to depend on python to do this, besides it is important for my coloring books to integrate this numbering methodology. Could please help me? Thank u very much guys !!
  23. I have been using Affinity Publisher since it’s early beta version and it has pretty much completely replaced Adobe InDesign for me. In general I am super happy with all 3 Affinity products which have become the main tools for my professional work. There are though still a few issues where I unfortunately do not get the performance I've been used to from InDesign. One extremely important thing for me and other designer colleagues of mine is precise fine tuning of justified text. In InDesign you can adjust the justification settings to get a pretty much perfect text box without weird spacing and gaps between words. My colleagues and I have until now been unable to get satisfactory results using Publisher’s settings so I would kindly ask the Affinty team working on Publisher to take an extra look into this feature and try and get it up to par with what's possible in InDesign. Maybe we have all been doing something wrong though I doubt it because I have heard this complaint in the forums before. I am including a screenshot of the settings I have been using for years in InDesign which pretty much give perfect results every time. I have yet to find the same ‘magic’ formula in Publisher and until then this will unfortunately be a major issue for me. Thanks for looking into this
  24. Hi guys, how are you? I have a dilemma that I have not been able to solve, could someone give me a little help, I asked some people on youtube but I think they could not understand me xD. For example I have 100 pages in affinity publisher, each one has an image that I put manually (I mean, I didn't even use a guide of Master, at that time I didn't know it existed, I'm a newbie in this). The thing is that I want to insert an automatic numbering for the pages (with the master), everything so far so good, but the problem comes here: When I put the numbering, the master is below all the layers of the pages, and as I have full screen images, the numbers are not seen. I have to go layer by layer moving up (in each page, and are 100pages xDDD) the hierarchy to the master. Check this example: The master is inserted ON BUTTOM of layer, and I need it ON TOP Is there any way I can get affinity to insert the master on top of all the layers I have? Or is there any way I can pull all the master layers up in the 100 pages? Thank you very much !
