  1. Hi, When opening a document with a document's palette, we shouldn't have to search for it, it should be selected on the swatches panel. (Or the first ducoment's palette in the list if there's more than one.)
  2. Aside from having the ability to change your brush view in the Brushes panel from a list to a grid/icons, it would be really nice to be able to rearrange the brush categories. Every time new brushes are added, they are added in a new category at the bottom of the category list, but that category then can't be moved up or down. This removes the ability to (for example) move all of my inking brush categories closer together and all of my painting brush categories together, to keep things tidy and organised. Basically, in the same way you can move brushes up and down in the category list, it would be great to be able to do this with the brush categories themselves too. Not a big deal, but it would be a handy little addition to the brushes panel that would be nice to see in a future update - I also can't imagine it being very difficult to implement something like this.
  3. I wonder if other people might have the same issue as me, I have the Affinity suite installed on my win10 pc (1903), i5, 16gb ram, ssd/hd installed, Radeon RX580 (radeon 19.7.4 driver). Every time I want to use photo or publisher, I have to launch the program at least 3 times, I click on the icon, the loading splash appears and then it shuts down, I've just tried it again, publisher, at least 3 times before I can use it, I can't see any faults in the windows log, so I don't know if it is crashing as other programs might, or just not running. It seems only designer plays ball and launches first time. All three apps running 1.7.1.404. Enclosed is the latest crash reports for today for photo (93b, d86, b6c) and publisher (6ad, f3f, 238) if they help. Thanks in advance Trevor 93bec641-0ec8-4637-b202-c641c9b7a6dc.dmp d8676323-df10-4ed0-9bf8-5cdfd7820c49.dmp b6ca273e-2135-4dd7-aa6e-16db5475f086.dmp 6ad2a5f6-1ad7-4130-9633-1a369d0aa9f4.dmp f3ff675c-4ebc-4197-8255-becb82e96096.dmp 238ff74e-8087-4680-ab78-add07b3cb043.dmp

    Voronoi Bug

The voronoi filter started out working fine, but it started getting worse at adding more and more black around the edges as I used it. I have no idea what is causing this, but I've restarted the program, and I'm still getting the same bad results.
  5. Hello, I recently noted that when I import some (not all) RAW photos and hit the "Develop" button, some weird artifacts have occurred and are very noticeable even after the export at max quality. If I do the exact same process on AP on Mac, the export is perfectly clean and without any weird colours or artifacts. I’ve attached an example of photo that looks good when in AP and changes when exported to JPG. On the right side of the screenshot, there is the exported picture opened on the floating window of Apple Photo. The photo was shot with a Nikon D7000. Thanks for your help! EDIT: after re-installing the app on the iPad it seems to work perfectly and no noise or artifacts can be spotted on the same RAW files I was testing. What's the reason for this?
  6. In Affinity Photo - I lock layers so they won't move or be selected, yet I can still delete things on those layers and when I click on the locked material on the image, it still selects it with blue outlines. When I lock a layer, I want nothing to get selected or for anything to be editable, etc. Am I missing something?
  7. When using a raster brush that has 'wet edges' enabled, it often automatically disables the wet edges when you switch to another tool (like the eraser) and then back to the brush again. It's not a big issue, but it would be really great if the brushes retained the wet edges setting to save the hassle of manually checking it again after using another tool. For some reason this doesn't always happen, but I thought it might be worth mentioning as a lot of the more 'intricate' custom brushes use wet edges for textures and effects. Similarly, and I appologise as I've mentioned this before, it would be awesome to have a dissolve blend mode for brushes and layers as it's incredibly useful for creating gritty textures and bitmap effects - it's also especially useful for setting work up for screen printing as the dissolve blend mode removes all anti-aliasing. I know there are workarounds for this, but the dissolve blend mode is a small addition to the blend modes list that would completely remove the need to spend time finding different ways of achieving a similar effect. I've seen it mentioned a few times in the forums, so hopefully it will be considered.
  8. A lot of users, myself included, often create custom brushes and assets to use with Affinity Apps. With the release of Affinity Publisher (especially with StudioLink) I find it quite tedious to install the newly created brushes and assets individually into every app since I do switch between them quite regularly and need all my tools available. It would be really nice that when you install/delete assets and brushes in any one of the Affinity apps that they are automatically loaded/available/updated in the other apps. Example scenario: As an illustrator, I often create new custom brushes for projects. If I created a custom raster brush in Photo, but then needed to switch to Designer for vector work, I'd need to open Photo, save the brush, open Designer and then load the new brush in the Pixel Persona. Then when I switch to Publisher for layout, I would need to switch to the Photo Persona via StudioLink and reload the brush there too if I wanted to do a few finishing touch-ups. If I then made a few small tweaks to the brush, perhaps some small improvements (such as tweaking the pressure curve for the size jitter), I would need to repeat the entire process all over again. The same goes for Assets, and more. It can quickly become very time consuming. It would be incredibly useful to have a universal folder where the brushes/assets are stored so that they automatically update across the board when you customise or add them. Obviously this wouldn't be applicable on iPad, but I think it would be incredibly innovative and useful on desktop, and a huge time saver in anyone's workflow. That way you'd only need to load, say, a raster brush once in Photo, and then automatically have it available in Designer's Pixel Persona and Publisher's Photo Persona. Same goes for vector brushes, assets, macros, swatches, styles, etc.
  9. I'm using Affinity Photo [v1.5.2] on an iMac. I have a photo that I removed the background from by: Open photo Selection Brush (selected the subject of the photo only) Clicked "Refine" (added strands of hair I wanted to be included) Output>"New layer with mask" New Pixel layer with mask is created I would like to know how can I add/subtract from the mask using "Refine". When I click the mask, and select the Selection Brush again, I see the "Refine" button, and it opens up, but I can no longer add or subtract from the image like I was able the first time around. Is this possible? How?
  10. Hi anyone who's interested, I have added a feature request for a "Fit To Canvas" or fit to document feature for both AD and AP ages ago like Fireworks has, but thought I'd add this quick tip that works pretty well. Once you've got your graphic how you want it or before. I group it if I can(but not necessary and sometimes affects the layers) then copy it(ctrl or cmd C) then go to file at top of page and choose "New From Clipboard" your new doc will be trimmed to size with your graphic in it, then choose "Save As" then click the original document if you have saved already, else give it a name, Save, and your done. It even works to enlarge the document/canvas. I draw a line to get the about size I will want, then do the same by copying the graphic with the new line, then go to "New From Clipboard" again then "Save As" and save it. It's a bit little slower and cumbersome than the Fit To Canvas in Fireworks but it's pretty quick(quick enough for me and I use it all the time) and does the required job. I wish Serif would put this in as a button/tool the code is already done with the "New From Clipboard". Hope this helps someone.
  11. Hi, I'm just getting started with Affinity Photo after using Photoshop for a long time, so I might have completely overlooked the solution, but here's what I'm trying to achieve: I would like to export a slice of my photos at a set resolution (N x M pixels), but I cannot figure out how if it's possible. I've seen the other hardcoded values, but is there a way to create my own? Thanks! Robert
  12. Changes in 1.7.0 since 1.6.5 The changes in Affinity Photo for Windows 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Photo patch 1.6.5 (1.6.5 PK) are as follows: EDR Added support for EDR displays to Photo. When editing a 32-bit document. Brushes Photo 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. The brush engine in Photo has been improved. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Fixed ABR brush import (would ignore "random" controllers). RAW The RAW processing engine in Photo has been rewritten - producing better results and improved performance. RAW files now load much more quickly. Reimplemented support for XTrans sensors. The denoise algorithm has been rewritten. It produces better results and takes advantage of the new GPU architecture. Hot pixel removal is now automatically performed by the Serif Labs engine. Profiled lens correction are more stable, apply more quickly, and can be toggled in the Develop UI. The histogram in the Develop persona is now presented in the output colour space - as opposed to always being linear. Develop now respects the output profile when previewing. Show which autofocus rectangles were in focus and which were selected by the camera (yellow, green respectively). A large number of new cameras are supported for RAW development (we will provide a list of the new supported cameras as soon as possible!). Filters New “Procedural Texture” filter with advanced presets support. New “Voronoi” filter. Denoise, Clarity and Shadows / Highlights filters have been rewritten (using technology from the Develop Persona). More filters are now available as Live Filters - including the new Procedural Texture filter. Live filters have been rewritten to improve performance - especially when multiple filters are used in a document. Improved Polar to Rectangular and Rectangular to Polar filters. Added round dot type to the halftone filter. New “Lens Correction” filter - apply lens correction from the built-in lens database. Bilateral blur accuracy improvements. Adjustments The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. Layers Layers Panel - added option for transparent background for thumbnails. Layers Panel - added multiple thumbnail size options. Layers Panel- added ability to tag layers with a colour - including PSD round-trip. Allow adding an empty group from the Layer menu. New “Duplicate Selection” item in Layer menu (old behaviour). Duplicate now duplicate the whole layer ignoring pixel selection. Alt / Option is now used to make a pixel selection from layer luminance. You can now also hold shift to add the result to the current selection. Hide / Show / Show All Layers options in layers menu. Ability to either rasterise or rasterise and trim a layer. Previously recorded macros will trim. Selections Significant improvements to selection refinement. When using selection tools with no pixel selection, default to New / Add as appropriate. Added “Alpha Similarity” to Select Sampled Colour tool. Tools Grouped tool shortcuts now default to needing the shift key held to cycle (option in preferences). The Crop tool has been rewritten - it now supports resolution changes, absolute pixel size and has a much improved preset mechanism. The Sponge Brush tool now gives more correct / pleasant results. Allow brush rotate / size key changes while dragging. Added a “Reveal Canvas” checkbox to the crop tool - defaults to off. Added new “Transform object separately” mode into Move tool. A general tools overhaul has been performed - providing editing of grids, guides, page origin, across multiple tools (not just in the Move tool) Patch tool now supports arrow keys for rotate / scale. All brush tools can now be axis constrained once brush has started - not just the pixel tool. History “Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Photo will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. The History page now has an “advanced” mode - which shows thumbnails and time info. I/O HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Photo. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. TIFF export now has user selectable compression method. Added support for 12bit TIFF files. Introduced new metadata mining - completely rewritten to improve performance, flexibility and correctness. Metadata is now dynamically synchronised with your document - so if you resize then export, the values will be correct. Added Focal Length to metadata summary view. Added a button in general preferences to open a folder from which Photo will read LensFun-style XML files - if users wish to add / experiment with their own lens profiles. Support 16bit CMYK TIFF import. General New ability to control how macros are scaled / aligned when playing back. Added an “Assets” panel to Photo. New cube setup mode for grids. Add “Fill with Primary / Secondary” to the Edit menu for fast access. The batch process dialog now fully supports expressions for height and width - available constants are “w”, “h” and “dpi”. “Lock guides” added to menus. Support for drag dropping .afstyles into Photo. Support for drag dropping .afpalette into Photo. Photo now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quick operations on clipping masks etc. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. New provider options have been added to the stock panel - support for Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay. All of these providers offer full-resolution stock imagery which is free to use. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features. Significant stability improvements when working on non-local files (network shares, USB drives, etc.). Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Huge macro and batch processing improvements. New welcome screen layout and all new samples. Numerous other bug fixes - too many to list!? 13. Photo 1.7.1.143, iOS 12.3.1 When "Edit Selection As Layer" (ESAL) is on, and zooming by pinching the screen, the mask disappears while zooming and does not always reappear when you finish. Also, if you go back to the home screen with it set then reopen the document, ESAL is on but the mask isn't displayed. Seems like it has been like this a long time. Or maybe not.
  14. As discussed in the general Requests, Suggestions & Discussions or in the Questions: Metric system was created at our Revolution to unify with a simple design and simple way to count, and stop using all the old and complicated other systems with difficult conversions or no concordance between mesurements. It's a decimal system, with a standard meter as reference. Using non decimal mesurement is heresy and a bug I feel ridiculous to post thrice the same post. It would be nice if bugs affecting all the apps and discussed in the general parts of the forum was taken in account.

  16. Hey again! It's just a minor thing but it still seems like a bug: I open the New Document dialog. Define some custom page dimensions. The next time I open the software it shows me one of the preset names in the drop down menu but the dimensions are still the ones from last time (see screenshot). Only if I change one of the dimensions it say "custom" again under Page Preset. It is the same for all three softwares (Designer, Photo, Publisher). Using the Win versions in English and also in German. All the best, Chris
  17. A colleague and I were creating some tutorials for our end users when he went to a layer in Photo, right-clicked on it and chose Delete. We then noticed that there was no UNDO under the Edit menu for that operation. The History tooltab was also blank suddenly. He then went to recreate the layer and suddenly the history reappeared and he was able to undo and get the layer back. We tried to recreate the scenario but could not. I'm certain it was a glitch but just wanted to make it aware to all.

  19. As the title says, Affinity Photo has come top in Practical Photography magazine's survey of ""Powerful editing suites for under £100". This is in the recent edition that came this morning. John
  20. Hey there, I've already in a couple of forum threads about the file size behaviour of Affinity Photo. Unfortunately things still don't quite add up for me. I've got a 10MB NEF RAW file. I've reduced to RGB/8, history is turned off and I also used "Save As" trying to trigger the file streamlining. Still the Affinity Photo file is 112MB. What am I missing? cheers, Torsten
  21. Hello I have a panorama image created by Affinity Photo (v1.7.1) which has produced a panorama (see below). This panorama features a Fisheye effect that needs to be removed (or minimised at least). I have previous experience with Jasc Paint Shop Pro which did a VERY good automated effect of doing this, but I cant get the correct results using Affinity Photo. I have read similar topics on here and explored the Developer Persona and used the "lens" tab and tried to adjust the distortion, however, the distortion works on the whole image regardless of focus. points. This means that the centre of the image is reduced and set to appear further away (shrunk) whilst the same applies to the outside of the image, simply to a lesser extent. What I am looking for, is a system that sets a magnitude effect ring (usually 50% of the radius of the image) where by the image data within a range of this "ring" is not adjusted, data outside of this ring is pulled towards the viewpoint, whilst data inside this ring is pushed away (as fish eye reduction). An example image is below. smaller-Intention See The full image (16:5 ratio), see the red inner ring, all the image dta within that ring I want to be fish eye adjusted to be pushed away from the viewpoint. however, between the red ring and the yellow outer ring that image data shouldbe only minor ly adjusted as a zero point band, with the image data outside of the yellow ring being pulled up towards the viewpoint. In effect, I want to try and not just negate the fisheye effect but to actually invert the fish eye effect. Using the lens distortion effect only drags image data inwards and makes everything shrink without bending the relationship; please see the centre wall (within the yellow circle) is still bulging despite being heavily distorted (-50%). Please see the black arrows indicating that data on the periphery of the image is also being dragged inwards when that actually works against what I'm trying to achieve. Fish eye is at best only part of the solution. From all I've written, can anyone advise the name of the process that I can use in Affinity Photo OR Designer (I have both) to adjust this image in the way described. Image is created from a panorama of 5 images and is sized at ~11.8k x ~3.8k. Thanks, and apologies if the answer is a simple function I'm unaware of!
  22. Hello, I can not use the macro, without the ones that it brings by default but when I create one, the program closes when I try to execute it Crash_Macros_affinity_Photo.mp4
  23. What title says. Steps to reproduce: place picture stretch it to cover bleeds, switch to Photo, marque selection can't be drawn on bleed. However when moving existing marque it can overlap bleed with no problem.
  24. With Both Affinity Photo and Designer, I can no longer open any file or drag and drop a file that is stored in iCloud. The only exception is if the file is stored in the official Affinity Photo/Designer iCloud Drive folders. However, if I have a jpg/png/svg on my desktop (which is on iCloud) I cannot drag it into any Affinity document or open it directly via File->Open. I see two different errors depending on the file. Even though both are on my desktop... The only workflow that seems to work right now is to move the file off iCloud and then I can use it inside Affinity.
  25. Hi, I'm new to the Affinity family of products, having bought Affinity Photo. Is it possible to get a poster but only with the standard size of paper in my printer with any of Affinity's programs? In Corel Draw: I was able to stitch the tiles together after printing, to make the poster. Which of your programs is closest to the overall functionality of Corel Draw? I'd like to switch over to Affinity. Is there a way to see a comparison of all three programs, as they seam to have overlapping features? I'd like to see especially what makes Designer and Publisher unique from each other (differences) but also Photo.
