  1. NOTE TO MODERATOR: I would like for the attached files to ONLY be visible to Serif employees. The Affinity Photo file is copyrighted material. Thank you. Software: Affinity Photo 1.6.7 MAS - latest update macOS: 10.14.3 System: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro14,3 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 3.1 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 16 GB Boot ROM Version: 185.0.0.0.0 SMC Version (system): 2.45f0 Reproducibility: Yes. Every time. Happens with each of a group of files, created on earlier MAS update of Af Photo, one of which I will attach. I am currently running on battery power. What happens: Affinity Photo repeatedly becomes unresponsive with spin indicator after opening the attached afphoto file, and a number of others created at the same time. Every time, Metal compiler is using around 100% CPU. Occasionally, the spin indicator will go away but clicking anything in Af Photo will drop back into spin. The behavior is consistent and repeatable. Because Metal was involved, I tried restarting the Mac. No improvement I tried disabling BitDefender. No improvement. I tried different files in the group, the structure of each file with layers and masks and the dimensions are all the same. The contents of the layers differ. I am currently unable to edit these files with Affinity Photo and am up against a deadline. Please help. Kind regards, Matthew Barker Affinity Spindump.txt Sample of Affinity Photo.txt MacBook Pro - System Report.spx

  3. Well it is simple ! I personally am amazed with the level of precision acquired by Adobe since they've implemented the Adobe Sensei technology. I recently was asking myself (now i ask to Serif) how fun and interesting would Affinity Photo (and maybe the two others) if Serif develop an intuitive and efficient intelligence that will power their software. not only Adobe but Skylum took the same path and powered their software with Artificial intelligence and now and they are getting very popular, not only that the tools are getting much better and really saves time for impressive results. Just put everything here and hope Devs and staffs will read and indicate us if something similar is coming to Affinity, if not then i tried and it was fun to try. Blessings.
  4. I'm having an issue with metadata being retained from an original background image layer in Affinity documents. New jpgs do not update to the current date. 1. Export an image from Apple Photos app and open it in Affinity Photo, thus creating a new Affinity ".afphoto" document with multiple layers. 2. Export a jpg from Affinity document to my desktop. 3. Import new jpg to Apple Photos app. New image returns to original creation date in Apple Photos.
  5. Hello everyone, I used to use Adobe Photoshop and recently switched to Affinity Photo, although I never really got into the 3D aspect of Photoshop, I knew it was there if I ever needed it and now that I am getting more into 3D rendering and game development I wish that Affinity Photo would also have a 3D rendering feature. I think it would be great if Affinity Photo had a decent if not great 3D painting platform where users can render and export a ready-to-use 3D model with great graphics to game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine and have support for Maya and Fusion 360 files. This feature would not only increase sales but would make Affinity Photo the go-to program for all kinds of graphic designers and artists. In addition to Affinity Designer, artists would have no problem also purchasing your products over any other top sellers like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. With your low, non-subscription prices this would not only be a smart choice to make but very important in terms of marketing and expanding your target market. Thanks in advance.
  6. Large panorama, trying to inpaint a relatively small missing section, I can semi-reliably (not every time but many times) get the app to (what looks like) loop allocating memory. The two times I tried to repro this in the beta the inpaint succeeded (different images) but this seems serious enough to offer up in case you want to verify. Affinity Photo 1.6.11 The project file is 6+GB so I'll wait for you to ask for it. :-D As a side note, this was another instance of the behavior that inspired this feature request:
  7. Hi all, Would it be possible to add support for the Flood Fill Tool and Flood Select Tool to read all the layers? Cheers, Juan
  8. Hello ! Quite a few times, I find myself in a situation where being able to handle/modify .afdesign and .afphoto programmatically would have been really handy. However, after a couple of google searches, I couldn't find any information about those formats. I've tried to decompile the AD and AP apps using decompiler such as dotPeek and dnSpy, but didn't make any progress. Analyzing the files with binwalk or strings was of no help either. Now, I'd like to develop a tool that would generate .afdesign files based on user input, and it is impossible to do without even any basic information about this format. Anyway, as you've probably guessed, I'm posting here to ask if we could get some information about the files formats. I know writing documentation for a piece of software instead of working on new features or patching bugs can be really boring and time-consuming, so I'm not asking you for a full-blown documentation, but at least a sufficient level of information to work with those files programmatically and maybe being able to create/modify them, that may include the different memory sections/segments, how shapes/colours/palettes/text/filters/effects/references are stored, etc... I know it's probably not gonna happen, because it's too time-consuming or costs too much, but I sincerely hope that it will be a resource soon available to the community. Thanks for reading, waiting for your reply.
  9. Hello everyone ! Hello Team ! Well, i just want to make this request/suggestion that i believe will be of great interest for many in this community. We love affinity Photo a lot but still there are point we often disagree with and tends to make use of other tools but we end up lose a lot of time and some time lose it all. Among those so much wanted features i notice the precious Skin Tone Fine tuning. Well, there are tons of methods that we can use to fine tune our skin tone but when looking closely they are intended for Pro or peoples who have considerable experience with Photo software, but when it comes to newbie ... they just lose it all. So i propose a New Skin Tone Fine Tune - Live filter to be implemented; that live filter must allow us to work fast on skin tone applying quick and auto mask to the subject skin so we can work on it. A bit more ? Well, I suggest this : - an Auto detection of skin tone to be implemented the second we select that filter then a quick mask applied, allowing us to fine tune the mask because skin also share the same color as background and environment. - After mask is okay then we can play with the sliders few of them can be : Smoothing, Brilliance, Vibrance, clarity, sharpening, blemish correction and maybe Hue (for those playing the Hulk stuff) ... do not forget to add a color/picking tool to allow average color picking (kind of manual method for those wanting to select precise areas or ranges) - All this should happen in live mode so we see in real-time what we do and how is the output - When all necessary tuning are done, just click apply Making this a Live filter is a plus that will enable us to come back to it tuning again and again thus increasing the interest Newbie and learners (and even Pro) may have about Affinity Photo. Believe this: the day you will offers us such quick way of working a lot of people will be at peace. Please do not remove or delete the actual way of doing the same job as many people like to do things manually so they have to be satisfied. May another one in this forum fine tune this suggestion for the good. Blessings until this is implemented for the Good of Photography.
  10. Hi Publisher Users, i´m new here and have my fist question. If the answer was given in another topic feel free to share the link with me. My search wasn´t given me the answer. As an old Indesign user i missing something on handling placed photos. In Indesign i can move photos inside the frame. So i can resize or move photos inside the frame by not moving the frame from his default location. Is this not working, or do i something wrong here in Publisher? For a better understanding you can here see the effect in this Video on Youtube - starting at 2:51 Greetings
  11. I had been processing an image an image by making a selection and then selecting Refine selection. This created a red matte that covered my entire image, not just the non-selected part. I was able to paint around the edges and refine and use the selection. I then tried to print the image. and the red matte also appeared on the preview image. I exported the final image as a flattened tiff (closing the original). I then re-loaded it and went to print. Again the red matte was there. The image printed OK. You can see my final image under Share Your Work. John
  12. Hello there, As much as I'm loving the new Brush Editor features, there's a bug that's been around since the current stable Designer and Photo versions. I've reported it a couple of times already and I hope this issue gets addressed, because it really ruins the experience when using advanced features from the brush panel. When you add the Wet Edges option to a brush (from the editor), this option gets deactivated or non-recognized back when switching tools using the brush command key (B) and many times, when selecting the brush manually from the brushes panel. Let's say I need to erase something; I switch to the Eraser using (E), then I want to go back to my brush using (B) and when I do that, Wet Edges are switched off automatically, unless I double-select that brush... then, Wet Edges are back on. It totally ignores the stored brush settings. This affects dramatically the way brushes were originally designed. Thank you!
  13. Hi, When opening a JPG and doing a simple operation (flip), and saving this file (ctrl+s, erasing the original file). The original JPG is 539 Ko, the same after a flip in AP or AD is 1850 Ko. The problem is the embedded profile. Can we have at least an option in this case (erasing original file) for saving the file without profile? It's a problem with pictures for the web.

    Warping Text onto a wave

Some time ago I presented a formula to plug into Equations to warp text along a wavy baseline. I promised to create a macro to perform this, but never got round to it. Well here is that macro and a library containing it. Wavy Text.afmacro Wavy Text.afmacros The transformation is just a sine/cosine curve: y=y-(h*a/3)*(b*sin(360*x/w/c)+(1-b)*cos(360*x/w/c)) The a parameter determines the amplitude. The default is a=0.5, which creates a wave that reaches about half way to the top and bottom of the layer. The b parameter shifts the position of te wave along the horizontal axis. The c parameter affects the wavelength. Reducing c gives more waves along the x-axis. If you start with a text layer such as: and apply the macro with the default parameters, you get: The macro is designed to operate on a text object on a background. It needs the background to give it room. It begins by rasterizing the text to a pixel layer. It uses the height and width of the background layer to determine the amplitude and wavelength, not the height and width of the text itself. To use this, I would suggest creating a new document of a size to hold the text, then warp it, then place or copy it into the target document with an appropriate blending mode. John
  15. Using Affinity Publisher, I am having difficulty in applying a blended/graduated transparency effect to a color photograph. I'm trying to have a transparency blend to a white area on the bottom, but it keeps making my color photo become black & white. I'm using the graduated tool setting both colors to white/#ffffff and setting one end at 100% and the other at 0%. Can someone help?

    Angkor Wat

Hey folks, here is another edit/composite using AP Result (work in progress): Source: At the moment, I am not quite happy about the masking of the palm leaves Refining the mask crashed Affinity Photo several times, so I tried my best with manual masking, but I am still not where I want to have it - maybe I will have to spend another hour to get it right... If you have some good hints about better masking, I would be happy Besides, what do you think about the edit? Cheers, Marc
  17. Hello People Hello Dev's and Team Well today i'll make it simple for this amazing product we love. I would suggest a new Special Filter to be developed and implemented on Affinity Photo. The Skin Tone Live filter This Special filter should take care of helping the user to process skin tone adjustment in a Pro way and with ease of use. it should come with a tonal range picking tool that allow to pick and a set the initial/reference point/color range we would like to apply into areas we wish to correct. The filters should be Live and Non Destructive allowing a anytime tuning. The same filter should also include slider that will help us achieve things like Smoothing etc... like existing Filters is should have a Mask in it so we can paint the adjustment on specific areas we think we need to correct. let's say i want to make a model skin uniform, i would select the skin color Filter, use its picking/tonal range selection tool and click on the area that i think is the good/best tonal reference point, once i get that point it becomes what i will paint using brush tool in areas i think should be corrected, then i paint into areas i want to uniform to see them updated with selected tonal range and from the same Filter i should also the able to slide left or right (starting from center) to smooth or sharpen the applied skin tone. This should help us spend less time working on model/portrait skin tone but gain great results. if others can learn from us then we too can learn from them but make it 1000 times better than how it offered/presented actually. That was my suggestion for Affinity Photo. Blessings !
  18. I had a play with focus merge today and was wondering what caused the halo on the top tiny flower [mostly] --- slight subject movement is my guess. Pana Fz300 + remote cable + Canon 250D close up filter + focusing slides (yep cheapo) couple more added -- any hints and tips very welcome . it's it better to take more photo "just in case" or get it right with less photos --- these are 5-8 file stacks as the little sensor has more dof than most "big toys" Damn amazing techknowledge; and pretty fast considering . Affinity Mirroring still fascinates me !! What the computer does is one thing; how the whiz kids explain it to the computer in the first place is a whole different ball game Cheers
  19. Hello, how do I turn on the smart/audio guides like you get in photoshop? If you don't know what I am talking about, check the adobe link below: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/how-to/align-space-objects.html

    Fair Amaryllis

This is the time of year that Amaryllis (aka Hippeastrum) bulbs burst into flower. This is the second flower from one bulb. The first has rather gone over and the third is not quite open. I photographed this full face using 13 images in a stack, focusing on the tip of the stigma and progressively down into the throat of the flower. I found that using the jpegs resulted in the white parts of the petals being rather blown out, so I used the original raw (awr) files. Using the merge, I cropped it, then duplicated it and made a selection of the flower itself and deleted it. I then inverted the selection and applied a Layer > New Live Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with Preserve Alpha selected. Restoring the flower from the bottom layer gave the finished image. John
  22. Hi guys, i'm looking for a similar tool the "Actions"Photoshop in Affinity Photo. Could anyone tell me which tool has the same function? Thanks! Sorry for my English. ^^'

    Error in documentation

In the Help Page on Field Epressions, in the section on general arithmetic, that for input '/2', the result is 'divide by a half'! I am told that this error is present in both the Windows and the Mac versions, and in both 1.6 and 1.7. John
  24. Bit of a long coming rant Is it really that hard / completed / confusing for others or am I just the dumb one ?. Other programs like lr and on1 make it so easy even if I haven't use On1 for ages and have likely forgotten how it worked. I call the whole grad tool thing "best to leave it tool" as i did with Ps programs --- easier the paint in / mask in the files or colours Just seems impossible to make an easy transparent gradient to blend 2 files together or add a colour or adjustment to say one edge . Honestly; videos I have seen tend to jump in at the deep end or don't mention a transparent gradient I would really appreciate it if you can explain the basics of making a simple transparent grad in Affinity Photo. Cheers
  25. Is there a way that a photo can auto update itself in designer, after changes to it has been made in photos, and then saved? I placed a photo that I edited in photos into designer, then I needed to make adjustments, but every adjustment I make, I need to replace the picture is designer with the updated one, even though it is the same picture, same name. Is there a way to make it auto update like it would do when using illustrator and photoshop? Thanks, Harold
