  1. Affinity Photo 1.6.0.89 crashes when launching DxO FilmPack 5 as a filter (it was added via Preferences => Photoshop Plugins). Windows 10 Home 64-bit. P.S. Gift license for DxO FilmPack 5 can be achieved from DxO from the following link, for your testing purposes to see the bug I just reported.
  2. In Gimp.app, I can create a shape and then "shrink" it or "grow" it by pixels or inches in place. While I have not exhausted myself in trying to find this feature in Affinity Designer or Photo, I don't think this feature exists. I am requesting that you consider adding these functions in the Affinity apps in the next major update.
  3. I have been conversing with several members today about the "lack of" an animation creator/player/editor in the Affinity suite of applications, & I thought I would make a pitch for writing a gif creator/player/editor in Affinity Photo; here goes: Andy shared that he worked for 2 years without success, trying to develop gif creation/player/editor in Affinity Design; it would be easier to develop this feature for Affinity Photo. Just "throwing spitballs at the wall here"; if you approached animation from a pixel application approach like Affinity Photo, it might be easier to "reverse engineer" the code from the Gimp.app (a free and open source pixel application) @ www.Gimp.org than starting from scratch; if I read the tea leaves correctly, the developers at Gimp.org encourage "liberal use & sharing" with no licensing fees required. (I am sure that if you could use their code to write in a gif creator/player/editor and send them a nice donation, that they would be greatly appreciative). I hope that you will at least share this idea with the "dream team" and you guys might put this in the pipeline.
  4. Due to many reasons (MS can't update their software without issues, threat of having to pay monthly license fee for Windows 10, and I just plain like linux, it's faster (even my internet download speed has improved 120% in speed tests) + much more) I have switched over my desktop to Linux 100% of the time. Every program that I "needed" from Windows runs fine in Wine or has a linux version to use. Every program accept Affinity photo and Designer. I have tried the installation .exe which kills over immediately with a repetitive error "Exception: ResourceSection::ResourceSection". Copying the files from a Windows installation also throws exceptions. Is there any hope of a linux version of Affinity sometime in the near future? If the answer is no (and I hope it isn't), do you have any way of a workaround to get both Photo and Designer working in Linux?
  5. Hello, I am wondering if there is any way to pan the canvas with my finger. I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which has a touch screen. I am fluent in Phase One Capture One. Within Capture One you can pan the canvas with your finger. This is a quick and natural gesture, it does not matter what tool is selected and does not require any modification key presses. For clarification, the finger is for panning and the pen or mouse is used for brushing. Does Affinity Photo for Windows 10 offer this feature as I've explained? If not, is there any way I can set it up to do so, or any way I can offer this suggestion to the developers? Thanks.
  6. I'm using the latest Affinity Photo on MacOs Mojave. When I open a photo from my Drobo 5N, it loads fine. When I try to save the file back, I get the spinning beachball and Affinity stops responding. Saving the same image to my local drive works as expected. The file always damaged on the write back to the Drobo, with a file size of 0k. None of my other software exhibits this problem.
  7. Hello again folks! I'm trying to figure out what's going on with the Color Replacement Brush Tool … I thought it might be a suitable replacement for the "Lock Transparent Pixels" option on Photoshop's Layers palette, which I can't seem to find a direct equivalent for in Affinity Photo. Weird thing is, when I try to replace one color with another … it always seems to produce a lighter or impure version of the color instead of the one I have picked that I'm trying to replace with. (See attached screen capture.) It's almost like it's doing some kind of multiply/screen/etc. kind of adjustment to the color. (It seems the lighter the color it's replacing, the lighter the replacement color is.) Any suggestions here? Am I not understanding the purpose of this tool? Is there a setting or option for the tool that my weak eyes are missing? Is there some other/better way to do the transparent pixel lock thing from Photoshop? Also, I'm not sure what those little white artifacts are, next to the red arrowhead and under the pink exclamation point. Thanks y'all!
  8. Hello Team, Want to know if the add of Luminosity mask (Live) is planned for AfPhoto ? actually in beta cycle. Yes Luminosity masks will make life even better and easier for a lot of people, i've learned to use it and it makes a lot of things possible. I know people have said it is possible to mimic it but i'm actually asking about a native one and if it is planned to be implemented. Blessings !
  9. I'm using a color balance adjustment layer, I toggle the "Preserve Luminosity" checkbox and nothing happens. I attach the same process done in Photoshop with exaggerated settings and the expected outcome. Photoshop: Affinity (Both are exactly the same, the histogram doesn't change one bit)
  10. I'm trying to use Affinity Photo to make a curves adjustment layer for digital negatives that will be used in a traditional darkroom process. I need to be able to compensate for the response curves of the medium (e.g. photographic paper, cyanotype) I will be contact printing the negative to. I can calculate the curve but I can't find a way of telling Affinity Photo to make an adjustment curve where input value 5 maps to output value 20, input value 16 maps to output 32, etc. as is possible in Photoshop. I'd be happy to have a way to create a preset in the text file or something if that is possible as the curve would be the same for all images made into negatives and darkroom printed to the same medium. Any ideas? Martin
  11. All quiet in the garden just now; the dandelions are starting to seed. I've been waiting for one to practice on.
  12. Hello...I can't find the gradient editor in the new beta version of photo. When I click on the box at the top (beside TYPE) after I have drawn a gradient, there used to be a box that came up where I could change the opacity etc. Now only the colour wheel comes up. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

    [AP] Colorization

Hi. Looong time Photoshop user here, my first PS came on floppy's. I still use Adobe professionally at work but I wanted a cheaper photo editor at home. An alternative who isn't bogged down with options I never use / touch. So Affinity it was! Black and white colorization was on my bucket list for a long time. So I used it to learn Affinity Photo. Learning new techniques along with new software is generally not a good idea. But AP passed on all fronts. I like it so much I even use it as my personal photo editor. I'll update this thread from time to time if it's appreciated.
  14. Hi all, my friend gave me a huge bunch of PSD files with FX attached to objects within. I can open the files and the objects have the relevant FX attached to the objects but I discover that there seems to be no way to save a set of FX like there is a way to save styles. Am I missing something or is there no way to do that? In PS one just hits New Style and it save the FX but in Photo it only seems to apply to fill and border and so on. Am I wrong? Thanks for any help!
  15. Corel PSP has had a Materials Propery Dialog that presents you with the various options of using Mono, Complementary, Triad, Tetrad, Analogic, Accented choices. I think Photoshop has something similar (where else would Corel get this idea) . I think it would make a very nice, and very useful feature to APhoto. Since there's always numerous requests to add features to APhoto that come from Photoshop, why not add something from PSP?
  16. Hello, For a long time no update on Affinity Photo Desktop (Mac) Is this app died???? Let me know to choose another solution....
  17. Hello Team ! Just wanted to know at some stage Affinity Photo will support Lens Profile for devices like iPhones, Samsung Galaxy, Huawei, Pixel and Mi by Xiaomi ? IN fact, today there a lot of people are shooting with their mobile phone because it is what they own and like but those devices doesn't produce RAW file the same way big brand does but some will produce HEIC, JPEG and TIFF files. I know you focus on Pro and Expert but will it be possible for small creators to also be taken in consideration ? Blessings
  18. I do a lot of design, photography and website work. One of the things I run into a lot are needing specific page sizes for various websites or designs. In photoshop I would be able to create a preset for a image size that I could go back too, and not have to remember the dimensions of. For instance, creating slides for a website slideshow. Some may be 800 x 600, and another website would have one that is 900 x 300. Is there a way that I can save those presets in the drop down list when creating a new project in Affinity Photo so I can have it labeled "Tom's Website Slideshow" so I know which preset it is? It would make it a lot faster than having to go back and lookup what the size parameters were for each website. Thank you
  19. WARNING: for the technically-minded only! The Noise functions in the Filters > Distort> Equations facility are supposed to add (unspecified) noise to an image. The only description I can find of this is in the video by James Ritson. He first duplcates the layer and then uses either noise(x*y)*a or noise4(x*y)*a in his equation. This produces a grain-like effect over his image. The documentation for equations is limited. There is the Expressions for field input in the Help system which gives, under : Noise(seed/x,y), an explanation: Generate 1D noise either from a seed or based on X/Y input with similar definitions for noise2, noise3 and noise4. James uses both the noise and the noise4 functions. In his video he is using the single seed parameter x*y, with the magnitude controlled by the a parameter. I have been experimenting with these noise functions and present here my findings Although the Expressions for field input names the functions Noise ... Noise4, with a capital letter, these will not work. You need to use a lower case n for noise. The function noise2 has no effect. The functions noise, noise3 and noise4 seem to produce identical visible results. The histograms are also identical. Using a single parameter, either a simple number, or an expression such as x*y, has no visible effect unless the Full option is selected in the Extend Mode at the bottom. When using two parameters, they need to be different in the x and y axes to produce any visible result. Multiplying the parameters by a number, such as noise(10x,10y), has no visible effect. I show here the effect of varying these parameters on a simple gradient field: Here is the effect of x=noise(x,y) and y=noise(y,x): The results for noise3 and noise4 are identical, as are noise(3x,3y) etc as are the histograms. If the parameters are the same, say x=noise(x,x) and y=noise(y,y) You get a very different effect: Almost like a tartan effect. If the noise functions are the same in both x and y such as x=noise(x,y) and y=noise(x,y), it works OK, but if you use x=noise(y,x) and y=noise(y,x) there is no visible effect unless you select Full: The difference between using Zero and Full in the Extend Mode at the bottom is subtle. Using Full seems to convert the image into a monochrome effect with the background invisible. However, the noise is based on the luminance of the background. Just for comparison, I append here the effect of the effect of the Add Noise filter (Filter > Noise > Add Noise...): You can control the intensity of the noise here, which is more than you can in any of the noise functions I have described. In conclusion, I would recommend that if you want noise, then use the Filter > Noise > Add Noise... option above until such time as the devs at Serif come up with a more understandable noise function in Equations. Having said that I am not holding my breath on this. Using noise in equations is probably a minority pursuit amongst users and the Add Noise filter is much easier. John
  20. Animatior in Affinity Photo, and or Timeline?? I think that it would be super cool if Affinity Photo like Photoshop added frame by frame animation, this is a huge downside to using Affinity Photo for me, I don't think it should become a seperate product since, well, I already have Affinity Photo, I do not need a full fledged animator and they already have their hands busy. The idea would be you could makes frames and export them as .gifs and maybe .mp4's? that would be cool! all the features would pretty much be a copy of photoshop (maybe some cool feature aswell.), then cartoonists could animate, photo editors could do some sick things and designers could make sick banners and internet .gifs, If affinity added this, I would completely forget about photoshop and leave it in the dust, affinity is amazing and with animation it would be great! Thanks for reading this post! please consider this :D - Segovo
  21. NOTE TO MODERATOR: I would like for the attached files to ONLY be visible to Serif employees. The Affinity Photo file is copyrighted material. Thank you. Software: Affinity Photo 1.6.7 MAS - latest update macOS: 10.14.3 System: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro14,3 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 3.1 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 16 GB Boot ROM Version: 185.0.0.0.0 SMC Version (system): 2.45f0 Reproducibility: Yes. Every time. Happens with each of a group of files, created on earlier MAS update of Af Photo, one of which I will attach. I am currently running on battery power. What happens: Affinity Photo repeatedly becomes unresponsive with spin indicator after opening the attached afphoto file, and a number of others created at the same time. Every time, Metal compiler is using around 100% CPU. Occasionally, the spin indicator will go away but clicking anything in Af Photo will drop back into spin. The behavior is consistent and repeatable. Because Metal was involved, I tried restarting the Mac. No improvement I tried disabling BitDefender. No improvement. I tried different files in the group, the structure of each file with layers and masks and the dimensions are all the same. The contents of the layers differ. I am currently unable to edit these files with Affinity Photo and am up against a deadline. Please help. 23. Well it is simple ! I personally am amazed with the level of precision acquired by Adobe since they've implemented the Adobe Sensei technology. I recently was asking myself (now i ask to Serif) how fun and interesting would Affinity Photo (and maybe the two others) if Serif develop an intuitive and efficient intelligence that will power their software. not only Adobe but Skylum took the same path and powered their software with Artificial intelligence and now and they are getting very popular, not only that the tools are getting much better and really saves time for impressive results. Just put everything here and hope Devs and staffs will read and indicate us if something similar is coming to Affinity, if not then i tried and it was fun to try. Blessings.
  24. I'm having an issue with metadata being retained from an original background image layer in Affinity documents. New jpgs do not update to the current date. 1. Export an image from Apple Photos app and open it in Affinity Photo, thus creating a new Affinity ".afphoto" document with multiple layers. 2. Export a jpg from Affinity document to my desktop. 3. Import new jpg to Apple Photos app. New image returns to original creation date in Apple Photos.
  25. Hello everyone, I used to use Adobe Photoshop and recently switched to Affinity Photo, although I never really got into the 3D aspect of Photoshop, I knew it was there if I ever needed it and now that I am getting more into 3D rendering and game development I wish that Affinity Photo would also have a 3D rendering feature. I think it would be great if Affinity Photo had a decent if not great 3D painting platform where users can render and export a ready-to-use 3D model with great graphics to game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine and have support for Maya and Fusion 360 files. This feature would not only increase sales but would make Affinity Photo the go-to program for all kinds of graphic designers and artists. In addition to Affinity Designer, artists would have no problem also purchasing your products over any other top sellers like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. With your low, non-subscription prices this would not only be a smart choice to make but very important in terms of marketing and expanding your target market. Thanks in advance.
