  1. Photos for the presentation optimized with AP. Eye-catching with light and shadow and some Dodge and Burn
  2. Whenever I update Affinity Photo, it is downloaded but the installation does not work. No error message, and after restarting, the old version is still there.
  3. My suggestions for improving the "Refine Selection" tool: 1. When entering the refine dialog, at first the selection does not change at all. No feathering, no matte edges. 2. The user decides where they want to to feather the selection or reanalyse the transition from foreground to background with the feather or the matte brush. 3. The sliders have a global effect on all the edges, whether the brushes were used or not. 4. Foreground and background brushes work just like white and black, without any reanalysis of the edge and spill-over. 5. Colour decontamination is switchable. 6. The preview shows what is, depending on decontamination state.
  5. I couldn't give enough attention to the problem in the past so I worked with my old Adobe Photoshop version. But now I would love to use Affinity Photo consequently. I think Photo constantly crashs since version 1.7 (Designer too) on startup. I've never seen the regular splash screen anymore. Any idea? Auggie
  6. I am trying to update my Mac App Store version of Affinity Photo to version 1.7.2, which shows as available. When I click the update button, I get a message as shown – "This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." This has been going on for a few days now. Any suggestions how to fix it?
  7. Windows 10 Pro 1909, Affinity Photo\Designer 1.8.0.585, Microsoft Surface Book 2 I worked on a file for about an hour this afternoon after updating Photo and Designer. After I saved my file in Photo and got home from work, I opened the file and the fonts were all different. Every font I selected would bounce to another font and I couldn't select the one I wanted. After closing and reopening, the application started crashing on launch. I tried to uninstall and reinstall Photo and the crashing is still happening. I tried to select Yes when it asked if I wanted to enable error reporting but I'm not sure it even gets time to send anything since it crashes very fast still. I tried holding Ctrl to get the clear data dialog and tried just Reset Font Replacements. That did not solve the issue and the crashing resumed on following attempts. So I checked the first three as I saw on another thread and that reset all my tool bar preferences and stuff but the font thing is still happening and it's crashing seemingly randomly. Designer is experiencing the same crashing and font issues when I manage to get it running. On the first run after I cleared the first three items on the clear data dialog, the application hung when I tried the Frame Text Tool. 8. The attached images show the difference in framing of the same image which are the same in both camera outputs RAW and jpg. The Microsoft Photo display shows the whole white lily. In Affinity Photo Editor the left side has cut off the petal and the right side is also trimmed. This is the first time I have noticed it and i will be more aware of it in future. Could this be a bug that needs to be resolved.
  9. Please bear with me as I am new to the forum. I have spent a great deal of time looking through the ipad forum for Photo. I found posts that are approximately 2 yrs old. This has not been helpful. I want to be able to select the parameters for a paint brush, opacity, feather, etc and using my Apple Pencil, see exactly WHERE I am painting or modifying the photo (like painting in or out.) I don’t know how you can do accurate work without such feedback from the brush. The forums have been clambering for this ability. This request has either died with Affinity Photo people or I just have not found the necessary setting, in which case I apologize and request some assistance.
  10. Stylus input on desktop (Mac) isn't nearly as smooth as on iPad, no matter what tablet drawing brand you use (I've tried a few). I've brought this up before, and it's kind of a biggie, considering there's a ton of illustrators, designers, photo retouchers/editors, using drawing/graphics tablets for their work. Some some reason this only happens with Affinity apps, and I haven't had this issue with any other graphics software. It's not a deal breaker per se, but it's very notable, and if you use a drawing tablet most of the day for your work, it can get quite frustrating (and could potentially put future users off of using the apps altogether). Furthermore, if you want to compete with the industry leaders (*cough Adobe), then you need to ensure that your stylus/pen input engine is pristine or at least on par with something like the industry standard, Photoshop. For some reason the pressure sensitivity has a tendency to spike or be slightly inaccurate and the lines aren't as smooth as they should be (often with small, but notable kinks and jitter). This is also very notable when using the Freehand Selection tool with a tablet. It's even more prevalent the more you zoom out of your canvas, causing weird jagged 90 and 45 degree angles in your lines/selections - almost as if the pen cursor is snapping to an invisible grid 90/45 degree grid. I usually do not work very zoomed in, so this can get very problematic throughout the work process, causing unwanted kinks and jagged lines which I've never experienced with any other drawing apps. To combat this, I've been using a third party plugin called Hej Stylus (hejstylus.com), and the pen input from my drawing tablet on desktop has been so much better within the Affinity apps while using it. It overrides the apps' default pen input in Affinity and replaces it with Hej Stylus's settings, which are much nicer and more accurate. When using the Hej Stylus app, I keep all the settings at an absolute minimum so that there isn't any additional smoothing, and all the app essentially does is override the default input. I don't necessarily want to use a third party app when working, but I'm doing it out of necessity. I think it's important to note that a desktop drawing tablet is a lot different from an iPad/Apple Pencil combo. The desktop styli/pens act differently and require different settings to perform the way that they should. Perhaps there's a way to get Eilert (the dev over at Hej Stylus) on board to help sort out the stylus input issues in Affinity apps. Sorry to keep going on about this, but as someone who uses a drawing tablet on desktop for ALL my work (as very many illustrators do), I really want to keep using Affinity without any tedious workarounds which takes extra time, and ultimately costs me and my clients money. Really hoping for a fix in the next update!! I've attached a screenshot here of the issue, and also attached the file: HejStylus Test.afphoto
  11. Hello, I'm having a similar issue with crash, simply by selecting the menu item... New Batch Job... I have 1.7.1 and Mac OS 10.14.6
  12. Hi, I love the pano persona. I have successfully stitched vertical and horizontal panos when lightroom 6 has failed. Is it possible to stitch images that aren't a classic pano? eg 8 images forming an overlapping 2x4 montage (is that the right term?). I could do it in two horizontal panos and try to stitch those together but it doesn't work too well and I was wondering about a bit manual adjustment such as when the images are taken manually?
  13. Has anyone else had this happen? I had an .afphoto file I was using and it was getting large enough, I saved it and then did a Save As and changed it to a new file name. Both files stood side by side after that. That was a few days ago. (Oct 19th is the last time I interacted with the 1st file). Yesterday when I went looking for the 1st file. it was gone. the 2nd file is still there, but it doesn't have what I need. I checked my trash. I checked iCloud. It's gone. I never deleted it - again, checked trash. So where did it go? I've had image files not showing up in Finder and yet showing up in the file system when I clicked 'Open" in an app every once in awhile. But the afphoto file doesn't show up there at all. Has anyone had this happen to their afphoto file on a Mac? And if so, did you find out where it was hiding? Will it reappear as oddly as it disappeared? *confuzzled and confused*
  14. So I've been having some serious issues with Grid management on the windows version of Photo. It doesn't ever line up properly with the size of the canvas which is quite an irritation. This is how it looks with Auto Grid turned on. See how the right side is cut off? What is causing this?
  15. Hi all, I just had a quick look at photo beta and it looks great! There are two features supported in Krita which I think would make fantastic additions to both photo and designer: 1: Tile mode (or "wrapping" mode). In this mode you can see the image/canvas repeated at least once beyond each edge and corner, and you can just draw off the edge and the drawing automatically wraps around to the other side. Ideally most of the built in effects and filters would also work properly with tiled mode, such as blurs, bevels, shadows, etc. This would be superb for making or working with seamlessly tiled backgrounds and game textures. 2: Infinite canvas. When you find yourself running out of space at one edge of the canvas, this feature would make it very easy to extend the canvas just in that direction. Cheers, Jules
  16. Hi, Would it be possible, in a future update to make the ripple filter linear as well as circular? Also, give it some degree of adjustments. ie. height, frequency and randomness. The reason I ask is that there is a filter in Photoshop distort that mimics frosted glass. I use this a lot in my work turning photos into digital paintings. I never subscribed to the Adobe pay plan and am greatly relieved to have found Affinity Photo which is now my go-to programme. Keep up the good work. The Digital Trickster.
  17. Hello, I'd like to ask if there's a solution to stop/avoid growing of files that I edit or change. It seems that working on a file simply grows it's size over time and there's no clear solution to keep it small. Originally I thought it's the saving of the full history in the file. But when I open recently edited files in both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer, it has no prior history stored in it. Anybody has an idea? Thx! Btw. backup solution that I have is to open a new file and paste all content from the old file to the new one. But that's killing export settings and you need to think of setting bleed correctly etc.
  18. Trying to follow the tutorial video here "Johny's Power Vignette" I'm confused at 30 seconds in where he says to set the rounded corner radius to 100%. I can only get my setting to go to 50% Is this a setting I'm missing? I've tried searching but can't seem to make any sense of the forum posts.
  19. I just wanted to thank the Affinity Photo team for publishing the Affinity Photo Workbook! I've come to realize that for me, as a Photoshop user, there was just no way to figure out Photo by myself, and the tutorials were too specific - what I needed was an overview. And panic was setting in, because when I get a new Mac, I have to upgrade to Catalina, which means finally ripping off the bandaid that is Photoshop CS6. It's taking effort and time, but nothing has made me more optimistic than going through the absolute learn from beginning chapters in the WorkBook. As I'm finally seeing how Affinity Photo works, I feel like I'm making the software my own. As soon as I can finally mimic my most common photoshop tasks, it's finally good bye Adobe for me. I feel like giving back, so I've decided that once I finally feel like I can generally use Affinity Photo, I'll try to make some videos specifically to help those people coming off of Photoshop to transition. It's a false sense of familiarity - Affinity Photo LOOKS like Photoshop, but it is operated so much differently. Here's to finally reaching Steve Job's original dream of being able to sell software like Photoshop for only $50. My one request: Could you also make the WorkBook available in digital form so I could refer to it on my iPad? That would also allow you to cheaply update it to keep it current. I fondly call this instant classic "The Pink Book". - Jeff
  20. Just for fun I thought I’d have a go at recreating an image from an old CCTV camera using Photo. It’s not perfect but I’m reasonably pleased with it so far, all done with Live Filters and Adjustments. If I do any more tweaks then I might post another version. For comparison, you can find the original image here: https://pixabay.com/photos/city-street-traffic-cars-731239/
  21. I was going to use an inserted photo (I took on my phone) of some tulips in order to make my own color palette. The colors in the original photo that I wanted to use in my Palette were red, yellow and green. I did something, I don't know what, that turned my entire original imported photo into an odd shade of Red???? The original imported photo is now changed to only One color, and it's an Unusual Shade of Red that wasn't even there before ???? The yellows and greens in the original photo are gone. If anyone knows what I did to create this, please let me know
  22. You guys are selling this in your store. Bought it with you 50% off promotion, but its seriously slow. To the point its not worth using. Is it the brushes or Affinity Designer or Photo? Slow in both. All other brushes are fine. Not my computer at fault..Can't buy much faster than this. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/store/product/daub-paintbox-brush-pack/ If you dont' have a fix, i wouldn't mind my money back as its pretty useless the way it is. Gary
  23. Windows 10 Home 1909, Photo 1.7.3.481. I can set an image file to read-only via File Explorer, then open the image in Photo and it shows as read-only in the title bar, all good there. However, I can make changes to it without getting a message telling me that it is read-only (not a massive problem, but slightly worrying). But, more importantly, I can use “File → Save” and I don’t get any message telling me that the save wasn’t successful, it just does nothing. It should at least say something like “You can’t save a read-only file”. Then, if I set the file to be not read-only and save the same image (already loaded as read-only) in Photo again, the changes are saved this time but Photo says that the image is still read-only. I think we need more information/feedback when using read-only files, not just in Photo but all three applications (I haven’t tested the others). P.S. I thought I’d add this to the discussion forum instead of the requests forum as I would like to read other peoples’ take on this, just to see what the general feeling is.
  24. Hi, I am having a problem with panorama stitching. I want to create a panorama of a waterfall out of 20 or so images. While most of the images fit in correctly, there is one that Affinity Photo does not recognise. It has quite a decent overlap but most of the photograph depicts water and therefore as it moves across different photographs the program most likely cannot detect any common control points on the surrounding images. While there are similar features (rocks, wave pattern, foam shapes) on the image and the surrounding ones, I am unable to stitch this panorama in full - water is a bit tricky for panoramas. Is there a way of manually adding the photograph into the panorama and setting the control points/location/tweaking it?
  25. Hi guys, What have I done?! Suddenly I can't resize from the center when using the crop tool in Affinity Photo?... I hold down cmd+drag from the corner but it does not resize from the center as expected. I am pretty sure it used to do that. If I press cmd before grabbing the corner handle it uses the straighten tool... How do I get it to resize from the center?
