  1. Hi, The thing I mis, is a function that turns a selection into a curve/path.
  2. Hi people, I have an idea for a feature in Designer. Problem: You have a shape and you want a line swirling around it. Because a swirling line makes everything instantly 3D-ish. You make the line with a path design it adjust it copy and past it put one behind and the other in front of the shape use f.e. a mask to erase the parts of the 'front line' that should be behind the shape You working on something else and after a while you want to adjust the path. It's a lot of work to change the swirling. (This time you use the symbol feature, you should have used it from the beginning!) Next day you want to change it again, same hassle. etc. Deliberation: The swirling logic of a line around an object is in theory super simple. In most cases it goes something like: Line goes in front of object, line goes behind object, line goes in front of object, line goes behind object,... If something is as easy as this, it shouldn't be too hard to design a UI window, that let you arrange such a pattern. And if you have such an option, new complex designs would enter the realms of feasibility. Like cursive handwriting swirling around a cane. And if the UI window has the option, that the interlayer pattern of the path affect even the path itself, then even knots are possible. Or eeeven complex knot patterns ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_knot )
  3. I'm sure its been asked a thousand times but is there any chance of a similar function to Inkscape's path effects being added to 1.7.0 << if it were to happen I would be more than happy to pay for the upgrade from 1.6 A very simple example is shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aotGj9iJB4U
  4. It would be very handy to be able to define a curved path and then distribute objects along the path - the objects could be centered along various snapping points, i.e. top left, top middle, top right, etc. The spacing could be equidistant from path start to path end; or, if you have more than one control point on the curve, have the option of snapping the objects to the control points. Hopefully I didn't babble too much and was able to get across what I mean
  5. As it seems at this point there is no geometry tools (boolean) in publisher. Is this a possibility in future versions? I find it very useful for modeling image containers, shapes , etc… and is a tool I use a lot on InDesign. I hope this could be easy to implement, as the tool already exist on Designer and shouldn't be very different on Publisher (happy hope)
  6. Hi all, my first post here. I am using photoshop since CS2 and I am pretty good in it. Never the less it became to expensive for me to use it just once in a while so I decided to buy Affinity Photo. Great programm so far. I have just one question: Since AP doesnt behave like it is said in the helpfile I was wondering, if I am doing something wrong. I just want to place a text on a path or curve. I create the path/curve and select the text tool. It is said, that the curser would change, when I come next to the curve with the tool selected. But that little devil mouse icon wont change. Hence I cant wrap my text along the curve. Am I missing something here? A simple checkbox somewhere to click? Any hint will be much appreciated. I found a lot of hints for Affinity Designer, but that differs to Photo. Hopefully someone can give me a tip. Many thanks in advance. cheers Marcus
  7. Hello Is this possible in Affinity Designer? I can't find any settings. Thank you.
  8. Is it possible to export a graphics to .eps without outlining all the paths? I tried different options but any time I open exported file, I can not change it without redrawing all the stuff.
  9. I was wondering if the "reverse text path" feature that is on the desktop version of Affinity Designer will be on the iPad version. I use that feature a ton on the desktop and find it super useful. If it is on the iPad version already please ignore this Thanks for an amazing app!
  10. I'd like to see a feature comparabale to Illustrator where you can rotate, scale and move a set of selected anchor points from a given pivot Point. Right now, rotating only part of a path is quite a tedious task, whereas in AI it's a matter of seconds. This feature would be even more useful if the adjacent anchor Points which are not selected would transform proportionally to keep a smooth shape.
  11. While using the Pencil Tool in AD for iPad, is there a way to change a setting to automatically close a path, where the nodes of end and beginning of the that path join. Or will I have to switch to Node Tool and close each of them manually?
  12. Hello, just want to do that: 1- Drawing a path 2 - Clicking (or right click, what i have expected) the path 3 - Create pixel selection from this path Any idea? Thanks
  14. Hello, I need to remove the backgrounds of around 100 images like this... I can draw the path and insert the image into the path easy enough, but I can't figure out how to add extra paths to remove the background from the holes. I've done a few using pixel mode and the {W} tool which is OK, but I'm sure there is a simple way to do this with the Pen tool to give sharper edges? I see that I can't convert a path to a selection yet as that would seemingly solve the problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
  15. I've just been trying too get an offset of a path (dieline off a shape that's a few mm larger than the shape) and using the stroke-> expand stroke work around isn't great as extra nodes get added over the top of nodes creating issues with strange bumps and lumps and gets worse when trying to remove the extra nodes which then throws out the whole path shape. Can we or is there coming an "offset path" option coming such as there is in Illustrator? and a corresponding tidying of the nodes? And while I am here, will it be possible to reflect a shape around a moveable point as one can do with rotate? Using symbols to reflect about a particular origin seems to be an un-necessary amount of work to achieve something that should take a few seconds? Are either of those features set in the pipeline? Cheers
  16. Hi guys, I am trying to get the text into a path, for example a circle. I can see how to to put the ON a path, but I can't figur our how to put it INSIDE it (in the most non-sexual way possible ) I attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to achieve, made with Fireworks. Thank you kindly
  17. Hi there, is there any option to create /change a smoothing paths from countless nodes? i have a big puzzle put together to one object and thousands of nodes. I would like to reduce them. Convert: "smooth" does not work, may be because it's an "union object"
  18. Hi can anyone help me heres my problem. Cant get text to follow path no matter what. Any shape or curve no matter the method I use the artistic text cursor doent change to squiggly line. Green highlight lines pop up but text still goes straight across. Tried everything = "To create text on a path selecting a shape, change to the Artistic Text Tool and mouse-over the path. The cursor should change to a "T" with a wave line below. Click and start typing. Alternatively you can select a shape go to menu Layer ▸ Convert to Text Path and start typing. Additionally you can also use a shape as a text frame. To do it select the shape, change to the Frame Text Tool, click inside the shape and start typing (or go to menu Layer ▸ Convert to Text Frame). To convert text to curves, select it with the Move Tool and click on Convert to Curves button on the context toolbar" None of these work. I have follow instructions to the letter, watch several different methods and videos. There is no convert text to curve option in layer menu no matter what I have selected. This is basic stuff why is this so difficult to make work? Is this a bug? Corrupted version? I have affinity on desktop and on laptop both are having these issues. Update fix? Please help.
  19. Hey guys I just recently made the switch from Adobe ecosystem to Affinity Designer & Photo because i'm not trying to shell out $600 a year for the rest of my life. I'm getting myself adjusted with Designer right now, but i hit a snag. I can't seem to Add/Remove nodes to existing paths like you could in Illustrator. I've tried searching in Help, but nothing comes up. Is this feature not currently available in Designer? If that's the case, then when can we expect this option in a future update? I only ask because it's something I use often. Thanks in advance for your help and time.
  20. In Affinity Design for Windows I created a shape and gave it an outline. I then I messed around and put text on its path. It changed it so that now - there is no colored stroke/no line and I cannot re-add a stroke or fill it. What am I doing wrong? Windows 10 Latest Design update 3/2018
  21. I’m evaluating the Affinity Designer Brush for my art drawing. One nice feature in Adobe Illustrator, I find, is the ability to edit a path by simply selecting it and hand-drawing over it. With each stroke, you get to remodel the path and refine it until perfect. Let’s say I draw an oval with the brush in free hand: there will be small bumps and flat areas, and the endpoints will be open. After selecting it, I can easily smoothen the curve by drawing over it, and I can connect the two endpoints and close the path smoothly the same way. The process is very natural and intuitive. So far I haven’t found a similar feature in Affinity Designer. It would be great to have it!
  22. Curvature Combs visualize the curvature of a Bezier curve in order to enable the designer to draw smoother curves. See section 2.11 here: http://cagd.cs.byu.edu/~557/text/ch2.pdf Often I find my self in position that I drew a curve but it just does not look smooth enough and I fiddle around until it looks smooth. Would be great to have some more clear feedback.
  23. I don't know how to easily cut things in Designer. In the photo below I want to cut the highlighted part out and delete it. But I don't know how I would easily do it. Could I that path as a cutting tool. I already tried using the geometry things like divide, subtract, add, combine, intersect. Thanks!
  24. Argh. Created 3 x 120º segments (yes, to form a circle, thank you ) that were to hold text. I then spent the next half hour fighting the evil "text on a path" demons again, so eventually I gave up and created three plain circles so *I* was in control instead of whatever creation method was at the heart of a shape. Is there no way to tell a text on a text path to ignore the previous history of the shape that created the path (read: being flipped, rotated, mirrored, turned inside out and covered in bees - ANYTHING) and offer some options to solely make the TEXT flip, go into mirror mode, write backwards or upside down? As in controlling the actual component you are working instead of a hard and mostly invisible dependency on the characteristics and previous life of the underlying shape that created the path? I think adding that control to the text part would IMHO rather massively reduce the pain of text on a path. The present approach basically forbids the use of any normal shape manipulations such as flipping and mirroring because you end up paying dearly for that later when you convert it to a text path. You cannot flip or mirror the text on its own as you end up flipping the shape with it, which you then have to undo the effects of. Moving control to where it belongs ought to help. 25. Good day! If you would like to copy a part of any vectorshape, now you have to (1) copy the path, (2) select 2 nodes seperately, (3) break them, (4) ungroup the object, (5) delete the part you don't need. (6) break and delete node, if open path is required OR (1) copy the path, (2) draw a path on top of it that includes the area you'd like to keep, (3) mark the two objects, (4) use intersect-tool, (5) break and delete node, if open path is required I would very much like to simply (1) SELECT the part of a curve I want and then press (2) COPY+PASTE to paste the selection. Thank you for considering!
