WOW! Can I just say how awesome and robust the path vector editing is in Affinity Designer!! From the snapping to the alignment (especially when you hold down shift to align in either 90º, 45º, etc.). I'm becoming so impressed with this tool. The process is so clean and not clunky. Big praise!! -
Hi In Photoshop is possible to create outline from selection. I can use Outline to create same, but quality is quite awful. Another way would be to create path from selection. Is it already in roadmap and when it would appear to AP? - Nikolai

OK I am able to type text on path. All fine and good. My problem is the direction of the text on the path. When I type I would like the text to flow from left to right and at moment its going in the opposite direction as noted by the image I have attached... I imagine I will feel silly when someone explains what it is that I have done.

Hi there! I googled a bit but i couldn't find a proper answer... Is there a way to make the top of the text to fit on a path? After over two years of working with AP I am really finding ways round some of it’s quirks and limitations. But a couple of things still have me stumped. 1) It is easy to convert a path or shape to a selection. However has anyone found a way to convert a selection to a path? 2) One of things I really miss in AP is the ability to easily combine selections to produce ‘compound’ selections. The commonest is adding individual selections to get a single combined selection. In PS this is a breeze just Cmd click the mask or layer thumbnails one by one while holding the Shift key. (Other key combos will subtract and intersect as well). I use this in PS all the time. It’s incredibly quick and useful. Sadly this doesn’t work in AP as the Shift is otherwise assigned. The best work around I have found is to load the selection from each layer or mask and then save it as a spare channel one layer at a time. By right clicking on them in the Channels palette one can then combine them as wished and then delete the channels. To call this slow and convoluted qualifies as masterly understatement. So has anyone found a better way? I seem to remember, many moons ago, there were promises from the development team of introducing killer linking. Is this a figment of my imagination or is something on the drawing board? This app is so, so good. But it could still get to be something really amazing. Please keep up the great work! -
Is there a way to edit options on text on a path. If I wanted to center the text on the given path, can I do that? If I wanted to flip the side of the start from left to right, can I? Are there any other options that may be useful for me to consider? Thanks! -
Good day everyone! I am trying to add a node here(refer to Sketch.png attached). I couldn't achieve it using the node tool, as it doesn't snap to the intersection. In Adobe Illustrator, we can achieve this by selecting both the open paths and selecting "divide" in the Pathfinder panel. When I do the same in AD, the straight line disappears and the open path(selected path) turns to a closed one. I'm trying to figure how to achieve this simple thing in AD. Please help!

It would be nice if the current grid could be converted to paths. For one thing, any pattern you can make with the grid manager, which is a lot of patterns, can instantly be part of your actual composition. For another, it would make it possible to sort of have multiple grids at once. This would be useful for me: to have both a hexagonal grid and a rectangular grid at the same time.

Hi ! I can't adjust the position of a text on a path. I can select the orange cursor but nothing happen. Impossible to choice if the text appear inside or outside an ellipse.

Until a knife or cut tool comes along, I would love to see a delete node, as in gone feature. Instead of deleting the node and leaving the path closed as is currently, deleting the node and it breaks a hole in the path as far as the next two nodes are located. Could be with a modifier key... shift delete or option/alt delete. Sure would save a bunch of time. Current setup breaking the path route is cumbersome and leaves 2 nodes on top of each other, which you need to select and then delete, often selecting the wrong one...

Hello, I'm not an expert at design, but as I've need things I go to youtube or whatever online tutorials I can find. The problem is, with the tutorials, even the most recent ones, they recommend what to do, however, I don't have what is suggested on my menu's anywhere. I am trying to convert my text to a curve, and have gone to layer to find the covert to text path, and it is not there. My menu's do not look the same as what i have seen on many tutorials for other things as well. I have paid the full version, and I have checked for updates aswell. Could anyone perhaps tell me why this would be? I have placed a screen shot of what is in my menu. Thanks.

Remember path when exporting slices

It would be nice if each document would remember where I last exported my slices for that particular document. At the moment it just opens the the "Select Folder" dialog to the last used folder in general, but when working with multiple documents that means I constantly have to reselect the porper output folder. I'm using version 1.5.3.69 on Windows 10 Hope this can be fixed/added in a future version! -
Hi! The problem is that vector object fill is always define clipping mask and affected by it. Even there is no fill color. At the same time object stroke don't define clipping mask at all and not affected by it. Here is example: Chain on the left is vector path with brush stroke with pixel "shadow" layer nested inside for clipping. Looking odd. On the right is same construction, but chain was rasterized. Please, check attached .afdesign layers to understand. I see two problems are: 1. Parent object fill is always affect the clipping mask 2. Clipping layer have nothing with parent object stroke I understand, that it's pure boolean logic happens there. But this make no sense and not what artist expected. My suggestion, that vector chain must be as his raster copy on the right. chain-clipping-mask.afdesign

Is there a solution for this? -
Hi! I am new to Affinity Designer and already have searched the internet to find an answer. The Info I found is that the measurement tool was planned years ago, but nothing to measurements in the newest release. Is there any way to measure the length of a (curved) line in the newest version? I am interested in an exact measurement in physical units (mm). Thanks!- 73 replies

Hello! I am currently in my 10 day trial period and am pleased to see that I may not have to spend the $20 a month for Adobe Illustrator. I have been able to use most of a tutorial I had wanted to use for comparison but for a few things, such as: I need a brush pattern to distribute along a path. (Ellipse) I can't seem to figure this one out. The terminologies seem different, though, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. Also, many of the items I work with require working in Illustrator, then opening in Photoshop to complete. This is another task that I can't seem to work out correctly. These two things.. and I'm a sold customer! Can anyone help? Sidebar: I am not a numbers person. I see some people using this thing called logic with numbers and I have no desire to run calculations in the middle of a creative process. Throws a wrench in my gears, which are already fairly rusty. :) Thanks so much for any help! -
Hi Affinity staff, I'm well aware this topic has been brought up before but just let me put it into a defined question again: AP/AD does not save preferred pathes and setting. One constantly has to enter own standard pathes and setting over and over again. I'm quite aware this topic requires some reasonable effort since it affects so many settings within the programs. But on the other side it is a nightmare for any professional user entering these things again an again. Starting from standard file pathes that need to be available at startup, pathes that have been entered the last time, and should be maintained, standard export settings that should be defined and saved altered if changed ... the list is quite long and I guess you are aware of it ... Is there any plan to adapt the software to these essential settings at all? Is this scheduled still in the 1.5 version? Can you give any estimated point of implementation? I'm aware that everybody is asking for features ... but please don't forget the workflow ... there are people trying to work with the software - on a daily base ... more than occasional users ... and I hope you try to address them with you SW as well ;-) Cheers, Timo

Searching the help did not produce any result. How do I draw for example a 12-leaf-daisy by only drawing one leaf and than duplicate/rotate it along a circular path? Is there any built in function like "actions" or "automatic repeat by angle and path" -
It would be nice a feature like AutoCAD POLAR ARRAY, so you can place object/selections around a specified point, or along a specified path. The essential options are : number of objects, angle between objects, radius of array, rotate objects ON/OFF. Thank you :)

Hello everyone, I've been using Designer for some time now, and it is brilliant i must say, but I recently found a problem i can't solve by myself, or search it on the net. I am trying to create a dashed line, made of dots to be exact, and i need it to have specific count evenly placed between the two points. For example, on the attached image, i need exactly three dots evenly placed on the path. Is there anyway to attain this effect, or i have to count the spaces manually and copy/paste circle shapes? Hi, I've the following scaling issue: I have a logo that consists of several shapes and 2 text paths. The logo is used as a symbol, in different layouts for mobile and web screens. How can I scale the logo including its child-objects (the 2 text on paths), without loosing the correct visual appearance of the logo? If I scale the logo (the whole object) down: - the text wraps around the curves (as it is described in the AD help) - that means I have my big logo (which looks good) a smaller logo with to large text, so I have to modify the text separately on the smaller logo (the instance of the symbol). But if I do so, I loose the correct visualization on the other symbols (the original, the bigger ones). And vice versa. An infinite loop... 1.) I need an option like "scale with object" as it exists for layerFX or 2.) the default scaling behavior of text on paths must be like that Thanks a lot for your time, your ideas, your help, Stefan.
