  1. As it seems at this point there is no geometry tools (boolean) in publisher. Is this a possibility in future versions? I find it very useful for modeling image containers, shapes , etc… and is a tool I use a lot on InDesign. I hope this could be easy to implement, as the tool already exist on Designer and shouldn't be very different on Publisher (happy hope)
  2. Hi all, my first post here. I am using photoshop since CS2 and I am pretty good in it. Never the less it became to expensive for me to use it just once in a while so I decided to buy Affinity Photo. Great programm so far. I have just one question: Since AP doesnt behave like it is said in the helpfile I was wondering, if I am doing something wrong. I just want to place a text on a path or curve. I create the path/curve and select the text tool. It is said, that the curser would change, when I come next to the curve with the tool selected. But that little devil mouse icon wont change. Hence I cant wrap my text along the curve. Am I missing something here? A simple checkbox somewhere to click? Any hint will be much appreciated. I found a lot of hints for Affinity Designer, but that differs to Photo. Hopefully someone can give me a tip. Many thanks in advance. cheers Marcus
  3. Is it possible to export a graphics to .eps without outlining all the paths? I tried different options but any time I open exported file, I can not change it without redrawing all the stuff.
  4. I was wondering if the "reverse text path" feature that is on the desktop version of Affinity Designer will be on the iPad version. I use that feature a ton on the desktop and find it super useful. If it is on the iPad version already please ignore this Thanks for an amazing app!
  5. I'd like to see a feature comparabale to Illustrator where you can rotate, scale and move a set of selected anchor points from a given pivot Point. Right now, rotating only part of a path is quite a tedious task, whereas in AI it's a matter of seconds. This feature would be even more useful if the adjacent anchor Points which are not selected would transform proportionally to keep a smooth shape.
  6. Hello, just want to do that: 1- Drawing a path 2 - Clicking (or right click, what i have expected) the path 3 - Create pixel selection from this path Any idea? Thanks
  7. Hello, I need to remove the backgrounds of around 100 images like this... I can draw the path and insert the image into the path easy enough, but I can't figure out how to add extra paths to remove the background from the holes. I've done a few using pixel mode and the {W} tool which is OK, but I'm sure there is a simple way to do this with the Pen tool to give sharper edges? I see that I can't convert a path to a selection yet as that would seemingly solve the problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
  8. It might be useful to have a way to apply a gradient on a curved path, and even a custom path, instead of just a straight line/other preset option.
  9. I've just been trying too get an offset of a path (dieline off a shape that's a few mm larger than the shape) and using the stroke-> expand stroke work around isn't great as extra nodes get added over the top of nodes creating issues with strange bumps and lumps and gets worse when trying to remove the extra nodes which then throws out the whole path shape. Can we or is there coming an "offset path" option coming such as there is in Illustrator? and a corresponding tidying of the nodes? And while I am here, will it be possible to reflect a shape around a moveable point as one can do with rotate? Using symbols to reflect about a particular origin seems to be an un-necessary amount of work to achieve something that should take a few seconds? Are either of those features set in the pipeline? Cheers
  10. Hi guys, I am trying to get the text into a path, for example a circle. I can see how to to put the ON a path, but I can't figur our how to put it INSIDE it (in the most non-sexual way possible ) I attached a screenshot of what I'm trying to achieve, made with Fireworks. Thank you kindly
  11. In Affinity Design for Windows I created a shape and gave it an outline. I then I messed around and put text on its path. It changed it so that now - there is no colored stroke/no line and I cannot re-add a stroke or fill it. What am I doing wrong? Windows 10 Latest Design update 3/2018
  12. Working with the pen tool, I've noticed that there is no way to snap the bezier handles to 45° and 90° angles once the node has been placed. Normally, this would be done by holding down the shift key while moving the bezier handle. In Affinity designer, this locks the handle to the angle it was last placed at. My suggestion would be to keep the current behavior, but add an alternate keyboard shortcut that will lock the bezier handles to 45° and 90° (and possibly other) angles. Could be CMD + DRAG, CMD + SHIFT + DRAG, etc.. Thanks!
  13. Argh. Created 3 x 120º segments (yes, to form a circle, thank you ) that were to hold text. I then spent the next half hour fighting the evil "text on a path" demons again, so eventually I gave up and created three plain circles so *I* was in control instead of whatever creation method was at the heart of a shape. Is there no way to tell a text on a text path to ignore the previous history of the shape that created the path (read: being flipped, rotated, mirrored, turned inside out and covered in bees - ANYTHING) and offer some options to solely make the TEXT flip, go into mirror mode, write backwards or upside down? As in controlling the actual component you are working instead of a hard and mostly invisible dependency on the characteristics and previous life of the underlying shape that created the path? I think adding that control to the text part would IMHO rather massively reduce the pain of text on a path. The present approach basically forbids the use of any normal shape manipulations such as flipping and mirroring because you end up paying dearly for that later when you convert it to a text path. You cannot flip or mirror the text on its own as you end up flipping the shape with it, which you then have to undo the effects of. Moving control to where it belongs ought to help. 14. I’m evaluating the Affinity Designer Brush for my art drawing. One nice feature in Adobe Illustrator, I find, is the ability to edit a path by simply selecting it and hand-drawing over it. With each stroke, you get to remodel the path and refine it until perfect. Let’s say I draw an oval with the brush in free hand: there will be small bumps and flat areas, and the endpoints will be open. After selecting it, I can easily smoothen the curve by drawing over it, and I can connect the two endpoints and close the path smoothly the same way. The process is very natural and intuitive. So far I haven’t found a similar feature in Affinity Designer. It would be great to have it!
  15. I don't know how to easily cut things in Designer. In the photo below I want to cut the highlighted part out and delete it. But I don't know how I would easily do it. Could I that path as a cutting tool. I already tried using the geometry things like divide, subtract, add, combine, intersect. Thanks!
  16. WOW! Can I just say how awesome and robust the path vector editing is in Affinity Designer!! From the snapping to the alignment (especially when you hold down shift to align in either 90º, 45º, etc.). I'm becoming so impressed with this tool. The process is so clean and not clunky. Big praise!!
  17. A feature where you can make the stroke between two nodes invisible without changing the shape. So, you select two nodes and choose "make stroke invisible" and the stroke between those two nodes and not the whole path will be invisible.
  18. Hi In Photoshop is possible to create outline from selection. I can use Outline to create same, but quality is quite awful. Another way would be to create path from selection. Is it already in roadmap and when it would appear to AP? - Nikolai
  19. OK I am able to type text on path. All fine and good. My problem is the direction of the text on the path. When I type I would like the text to flow from left to right and at moment its going in the opposite direction as noted by the image I have attached... I imagine I will feel silly when someone explains what it is that I have done.
  20. Hi there! I googled a bit but i couldn't find a proper answer... Is there a way to make the top of the text to fit on a path? Here i found a tutorial for mine same problem but it's for Illustrator -> https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/19589/make-top-of-type-sit-on-path-illustrator Thanks for the support!
  21. Hi all, More than likely very simple but has left me losing hours All I need to know is how to convert my text to a path so that I can for example place my text on a circle or arch... Many thanks in advance JP
  22. After over two years of working with AP I am really finding ways round some of it’s quirks and limitations. But a couple of things still have me stumped. 1) It is easy to convert a path or shape to a selection. However has anyone found a way to convert a selection to a path? 2) One of things I really miss in AP is the ability to easily combine selections to produce ‘compound’ selections. The commonest is adding individual selections to get a single combined selection. In PS this is a breeze just Cmd click the mask or layer thumbnails one by one while holding the Shift key. (Other key combos will subtract and intersect as well). I use this in PS all the time. It’s incredibly quick and useful. Sadly this doesn’t work in AP as the Shift is otherwise assigned. The best work around I have found is to load the selection from each layer or mask and then save it as a spare channel one layer at a time. By right clicking on them in the Channels palette one can then combine them as wished and then delete the channels. To call this slow and convoluted qualifies as masterly understatement. So has anyone found a better way? I seem to remember, many moons ago, there were promises from the development team of introducing killer linking. Is this a figment of my imagination or is something on the drawing board? This app is so, so good. But it could still get to be something really amazing. Please keep up the great work!
  23. it would be usefule to have a text along path feature also in affinity photo. see https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15865-how-to-write-text-along-a-curve/?p=72069
  24. Is there a way to edit options on text on a path. If I wanted to center the text on the given path, can I do that? If I wanted to flip the side of the start from left to right, can I? Are there any other options that may be useful for me to consider? Thanks!
  25. It would be nice if the current grid could be converted to paths. For one thing, any pattern you can make with the grid manager, which is a lot of patterns, can instantly be part of your actual composition. For another, it would make it possible to sort of have multiple grids at once. This would be useful for me: to have both a hexagonal grid and a rectangular grid at the same time.
