  1. I'm having general trounle releasing (apparent) compounds. I've attached an example created in the latest beta, using expand stroke, but this happens in release too. If I copy the element into ai I can release compounds there, but not in AD. ids proving to be a bit of a productivity hit, so would be nice to see it fixed. (also BTW - would be good to have key shortcuts baked in for the compounds commands) compound issue AD.afdesign
  2. There is a feature that I use regularly in freehand and illustrator and is able to make a path already double the time to increase positively or negatively. is often used to outline objects, texts etc ... in freehand in one step, and then you do conseguias marcabas a negative or positive value and the path is towards outward or inward. Can you do this in AD? as? Is there a control panel that efforts pictures we have in the document? if they are embedded, if they are RGB or CMYK etc ... Thanks.
  3. Hi, I know you're trying to keep this limited to Affinity Photo but it's the one feature AD is lacking for me. I work designing websites for e-commerce and I often need to cut out product images from white backgrounds. The work isn't complicated enough to require a dedicated piece of photo software like AP so I'm not going to spend an additional 40 quid for it. I'd like to see it added to AD. This feature is literally the last thing that's keeping me from removing Photoshop completely from my mac. Thanks
  4. Hello, Can anyone show me how to cut a path in half? I could not find any ways and I'm on deadline now. Thanks a lot,
  5. Okay so after much googling I cannot for the life of me locate the context menu. I want to convert a path to a selection. This is a little frustrating. I've attached a screen cap of my workspace. I think its the menu that comes up in the top giving contextual information about the tool I currently have selected. Bu I cannot find a convert to selection option in it for the pen tool. Is it somewhere else, or do I need to covert the path to curves? UPDATE: Okay so I found it, if you have the node selection tool active it doesn't so up. But if you have the pen tool it is visible.
  6. I try to use inset stroke and then Expand Stroke in order to offset an object, but... If I want to delete the out side path, I have to select all of nodes? Please tell me the better way to do offset path or about selecting grouped path. I also tried to find Release Compound Path to solve the problem but I can't found it. (you can see attached file below)
  7. Say I want a section of the black oval to overlap the blue. What's the best way to go about this in designer? I guess I'm looking for something similar to illustrator's shape builder tool.
  8. In Affinity Designer, holding down Option when clicking the "Operations" buttons in the toolbar creates very handy non-destructive boolean effects. When going through the menu, however, the modifier key is ignored. Inside of Affinity Photo, the corresponding toolbar buttons are hidden by default (you need to manually customize your main toolbar for them to even be available). Thus the non-destructive version is incredibly hard to find and kind of obscure to get to. I'd say either the modifier key should work inside the menu as well (which would be logical), or there should be a second set of menu items to do the same thing non-destructively.
  9. I've found that when using the "Divide" option for creating compound paths, it is inconsistant in results. I've tried this many times and get about a 50/50 chance of getting it right. Sometimes it works. See attached One shows where the cuts should appear at intersections, the other is the result, which speaks for itself. Is this a bug, or have I missed something about using the pathfindesque tools?
  10. Hi folks, I have created a path from six cloned paths to form something like six-sided puzzle-piece (see attachment) Now I want to fill this puzzle-piece but it only fills out the 'tounges' of the piece and not everything that is surrounded by the path. I am sure this behaviour has something to do with the way I created the puzzle-piece - in combining multiple simple not-closed paths into a single closed path. But how do I get my path to be handled as a closed path and be filled like the way I want it to be filled? Thanx in advance Rasmus Streckenteile_cut.svg
  11. Hi, I am new here and bought the Affinity Designer two days ago :) Using Text on a path in Affinity Designer, I have this result: Ok. In this case I can use the text on a path inside the circle and outside. Ok, I want outside. Done. Just great but I have now a problem!! Problem: I need the words "rbfigueira.com"be inverted to be readable. I need that the "R" start on left and not in right. I need that we can read "rbfigueira.com" from left to right and not from right to left. - How to invert the text (typing) ? Note: I think we should have one other big important way to do the alignment. In this case I am using one circle path. In this case I can align the text inside or outside of the circle ... is the same of saying that I am alignment the text from bottom or top of the text. Will be better to have the possibility to align using in center of the text and not only (top or bottom) !! In that case the path will be exactly in the center of each letter and not align in top or bottom but in center. The spaces and curve will be more perfect. Is that possible using this version ? Thanks Best regards, Ricardo Figueira
  12. I create a path with the path tool, then I change the path to a selection. How can I render / change the selection to a blurred line? The selection is first always sharp… Thanks for any help :)
  13. Hello, there seems to be an issue with typography with type on curved paths. It is as if the program thinks the type takes up more space than it does. Selecting all the text gives an apparent se;ection much longer than the text actually is. Moving the cursor through the text with the arrow keys does not aliogn with the actual letters. Adjusting kerning between letters gives strange results, moving the letters to where the cursor seems to think they are. Difficult to explain. I have attached three screenshots that show (1) selection of a line of curved text (the top text is on a different path and different layer, only the bottom text is on the layer and path I'm working on); (2) cursor poitioned after the first letter (should be between the M and the E); (3) effect of a small increase of kerning (one click of the up arrow next to kern parameter in the character dialogue) between the M and the E. Thanks. Dean
  14. Hi everyone, I'm new on Affinity Designer and I got a problem concerning the path type. ( I've already checked the instructions in the helped menu but that doesn't work for me ). I hope you'll understand me because I work on the french version so that the traduction of the tools may not be exact. Well here's my problem: First I create the curve that will define the curve of my text, then I use the text box tool and I click on the curve I've juste created in order to insert a text that follows the curve. The text insertion zone is in the rectangular zone that defines the curve but the text doesn't follow the curve !! The photo attached shows where my text insertion zone is and how my text appears when I try the make a path type Thank you so much if someone here can help me, I've tried everything and I'd be very grateful ! :) Antonin
  15. Hi, I am new (and impressed so far!). My first question is how can I write text on a curve. The promotional video on the home page shows it (at 0:27, writing "Authentic Quality Apparel Wear"). But i cannot figure out how and am reading it is roadmap feature. Could someone let me know the deal? Thanks!!
  16. Offsetting paths. Currently I've resorted to expanding the stroke, but the trouble of having to manually having to delete the inner nodes (especially on more complex shapes) can take up a lot of time.
  17. Hi folks, Sorry if it sounds like obvious, but actually, I've still not found any way to instantly select —all— external nodes (or the full external path) on the basic following example: Any idea? Thanks for the help.
  18. Hi, Attached two files. In one exported all right, because elementry redrew, while in the second file is exported as a path. Previously, there was a problem with opacity, or something else, now everything seems to have checked, but are exported anyway wrong. tell me what the problem is and how it can be solved without re-drawing elements riga1.afdesign riga2.afdesign
  19. This video will show you one solution to adding a text to a path in Affinity Designer. This is a temporary solution that will not work for everyone but might work for your particular situation. Click here to view the video on Youtube Don't forget to Subscribe. :)
  20. Good Evening, First of all thank you for all the support on this forum. I really appreciate everything I have learned. My question is: How do I put and object's paths onto seperate layers? In Illustrator, there is a function called "Release to Layers" where it takes all the paths and puts each individual path on it's own layer. I have attached a picture of what I am talking about. I would like to do this but I am having trouble finding this answer. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
  21. I have an object that is an S hand drawn and not text. The "S" is stylized and the bottom end wraps around crossing over itself: Where it crosses over itself it drops out the fill. How do I get it not to do this? the whole S needs to be blue.
  22. Hi, I've finished my first drawing. It was great time to discover AD freehand drawing tools for me. I try to utilize AD as freehand drawing app. I love vector and raster mixing in one place. I've started with sketchbook photo and raster brushes to make composition sketch. Next part was vector drawing with Pen, Pencil and Brush. I think Pen tool is great and intuitive but freehand drawing was very painful for me and I here are my freehand drawing improvements. 1. It would be great to have something like Clean tool. It can be something like brush but with size and tolerance option. When you draw a path with Pencil or Brush it has more points when needed. Clean tool can help reduce points with given tolerance and path is clean and simple. Great inspiration is here 2. I think Pencil and Brush need redraw option. I mean, when path is active user can draw over and change it. It is very frustrating to draw part of image as one path, next part as next path etc. and connect them into one shape. 3. Because I can't clean or redraw my paths on the fly (1 & 2), I've tried to use brush, draw my shape, expand strokes and add them. It works but shape has so many points (it seems brush path is made from circles) and you can't use Pen to make quick changes. First you need to clean shape but it takes more time than drawing new one. I think expand stroke should give shape with needed points only. 4. It would be great to have vector eraser too. Sometimes it is fast and easy to erase part of shape. Best, Greg
  23. First of all: Affinity Designer is one of the best mac apps! I love it and I can't wait for Affinity Photo. Finally I can ditch bug-ridden Pixelmator. You might have already seen my review in the app store in which I listed a bunch of things that I think could be improved or added, but here I want to focus on just one. When you use a brush with size variance enabled you can control the width of the stroke while painting, but it seems like you cannot currently make changes "after the fact". What I hope to see is the ability to edit the stroke width at each node or point along the path, perhaps similar to the bezier handles. Side note: I think there should be a "Velocity (Inverse)" setting in the "Controller" drop-down menu for the vector brush tool options but it's missing. Thanks for stopping by!
  24. I would like to have the ability to type on a curved path and be able to make text designs like the one in the image I attached.
