  1. Hi, While importing a psd file into Designer, the image renders incorrectly with the image positioned off canvas and strange changes in colouring. The original psd is quite simple with just a photo of a crow with masked background. I haven't tested this on the latest Photo beta, however I believe I had this issue in AP 1.6.0.76 too. I've attached screenshots of how it ought to be displayed. Edit: The file is also 16bit Rgb, so I'm not sure if Affinity supports this(?) P.s. Well done team on all your hard work, I'm looking forward to the next update! 2. I just wanted to recap the current state of how Affinity Designer is performing in web design workflows. I'm using Affinity Designer since one year for all of my work and I love the application itself. But as of now there is no complete workflow to handout designs made in AD to developers in any way: 1. Neither Zeplin nor Avocode support AD and it doesn't seem that anthying will change here. 2. Affinity Designer supports PSD Export but has two major drawbacks: Border radius properties are not preserved and text layers are completely flattened which make them completely useless. 3. Affinity Designer doesn't support the new open file format of SketchApp to be able to export designs as Sketch files to then inspect them in Zeplin, Avocode, or any other Sketch Viewer. 4. Exporting to SVG or PDF is not an option either because important properties like border radius, line-height and others are missing. 5. Right now it doesn't seem that Affinity is adding an inspect persona or any viewer service or app. So I'd like to ask the Affinity Designer team: What are your goals to improve the workflow for webdesigners and developers? How are you planning to improve this workflow in the future or don't you plan to do anything in this regard? Do you have any suggestion how web designers can work with developers? I've added a poll so that users can vote which suggestion they like the most.
  3. Hi there I am having some difficulty getting my PSD files to correctly import into 'Kestrel Moons" animation program "Creature". http://www.kestrelmoon.com/creatureforum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=456 That is a link to the conversation I am having with the developer who has been trying to help me get my files to properly import to creature. The PSD does not import at all into Creature and when he imported it into gimp it only imported 1 of 6 layers. That program also has a new function to import spine json files into creature. But it requires a .atlas file to be created as well which designer doesn't create (unless I am doing something wrong). This is a quote from the developer of creature when asked if I should contact you (affinity); "Yes that sounds like a good idea. I will still like to eventually get the PSD import working though; that will be the most straightforward process.Actually, do you mind asking them why for example in Gimp, your PSD only shows 1 layer? It will be great to find out how to make PSD export work from Affinity into Gimp first; if it does work then chances are it will also work in Creature. If the layer encoding issue can be solved, then it will be the easiest and more straightforward way to get a PSD directly into Creature. I wonder if this is a PSD versioning issue? For now, you will have to export out the character into one big atlas and assemble them manually first. But please keep me posted on the PSD import issue." I have tried exporting all three versions of the psd (preserve, editability, final cut x). Tried multiple resamplings with no luck. Maybe I am missing something? This is another quote from the developer when he imported it into GIMP instead of creature; "Thank you for your submission. Indeed this is a very strange sample, it does nothing as you described. After I did some debugging, I found out that the reader could not recognize the layer information which Affinity exported as for PSD. However, when I added an extra dummy transparent layer into your psd and saved it out from Gimp, Creature could import the psd correctly.Do you mind on your side trying to add an extra layer ( right now your PSD only has 1 layer ) into it and see what happens? I have attached back your test with one extra dummy layer added in. Please check your PM and give it a go. The modified PSD file I am sending back to you in the PM loads for me.I am not sure yet if this is an issue with the Affinity exported PSD or the reader itself. This is the first time I have encountered a PSD import error like what you showed me; then again almost all the users importing in PSD are using Photoshop or Gimp.If this is a PSD file format encoding issue, I suggest for now you export from Affinity, then use Gimp to open up the PSD and export out again. More investigation will be required but as of right now, I can tell you that PSD import works from the following programs for Creature: Photoshop, Gimp, Pixelmator. This sounds like a work around and I apologise for that; however PSD is a closed format so we all have to reverse engineer around it to make the loading code work. It's not a trivial task in itself but yes, more investigation will be required.Update: I think it might have something to do with the layer encoding for Affinity's export. I exported out from Gimp with 1 layer and it worked." While he did get the PSD to read in Creature with the GIMP work around it only gave him 1 of 6 layers. But when I open the PSD back into affinity designer it shows all the layers? Any suggestions or feedback would be highly appreciated. EDIT; This is from the developer as well; "Hello,Ok I am doing more investigation for you on this PSD matter since it also bugs me a bit.Try this online PSD viewer:https://www.photopea.com/It opens my own character PSDs just fine. But when I put your test.psd into it, it throws and error: "16 Bits/Channel not supported!"This feels like an Affinity PSD encoding issue. Can you please post this question over to the Affinity forums? Keep me updated on the progress." EDIT 2; I changed to 8 bit, and now it does import, but it multiplies the same image for every layer. So I have 6 of the same layer rather than the 6 unique layer images. EDIT 3; This is from the developer; "Hello,So slightly good news.First download this file:https://www.dropbox.com/s/aqbrmal0jhri6 ... 5.psd?dl=0Watch my recorded video:https://www.dropbox.com/s/x15jf163bd0m7oa/psd.mp4?dl=0What I did was I opened up your psd in Gimp, and then simply re-exported it out as a new psd. This psd imports correctly it Creature."
  4. Is it possible to export affinity designer to PSD file with editable text? If yes, how?
  5. Hello I am thinking of buying AP/AD, but a prerequisite is that I can combine (without flattening) two psd files. Is this possible?
  6. Hello, According to the marketing site I know Affinity Photo can open .psds but to what extent is the compatibility? For example I have Affinity Designer on desktop and it opens .psds just fine but if i were to export a design file with text back to Photoshop it gets rasterized. Is Affinity Photo (iPad or desktop app) the same way? Thanks
  7. Hello, I just bought Affinity Designer and I'm trying to use mockups that were created in Photoshop but the problem I encounter is I can't edit the Smart Objects so basically, if the smart object have some text I can't edit it or move it around etc,... my question is if Affinity Designer is capable of editing smart objects imported from PhotoShop. Best Regards
  8. For workflow reasons I would like to work exclusively in the psd format so I can import these files into apple motion without first having to export to another format. Is this possible? Is the psd format as robust and fully functional within affinity as the native afphoto format? Thanks
  9. Hey everyone. Hoping someone can help me out. I'm using Affinity Photo to import some PSD files I paid for from a stock site. There are text layers, shape layers, etc. When I open the files though, all the layers are pixel layers that are not editable in any way. It's as if they're flattened. I was under the impression that Affinity photo can open PSD's and work with them natively. I'm not fully sure how a pixel layer works either so I could be missing something here. All I want to do is edit the PSD's I bought. It's basic mods I want to make, nothing fancy. Anyone know how to convert the pixel layers to something editable (especially the text)? Thanks!
  10. I'm brand new to Affinity. I want to learn how to modify and change psd files. There are so many tutorials! Where do I start to learn what I want to know?
  11. I'm really enjoying Affinity Photo, but I'm struggling to manage my workflow, going back and forth between AP and other tools. This has me wondering: Do I lose anything if I go from one tool to another working with a layered PSD and never use the AP proprietary format? And if so, is what I lose minor enough to be worth the sacrifice? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
  12. Photoshop PSD file is not working properly like text converted into the image in layer with shown some errors on popup and psd file not open in existing size.
  13. I cannot change a psd file. I can rezise it but not change the text. it says "double click to edit" (Pixel), but nothing happens. The default setting is in German " Don´t import PSD as bitmap, but as text" and the box is ticked. What I can I do? Thanks and kind regards Orlando
  14. Hi I have problem with correct printing with transparent elements. On a page are embedded pdf logo and few embedded psd with transparency and shadow fx. Printing on PS color laser printer without "Clip Transparency" I got a rectangle (lighter/darker) around each object and no shadow effect! Sample attached - print1.png = pdf logo Then print with selected "Clip Transparency". Is better. Although still poorly you will see a rectangle around the object and no shadow effect! Sample attached - print2.png, print3.png and corresponding - screenshot.png I find that the best way is to export to pdf and print pdf, however can I print without boxes around objects and with visible shadow effect? WIN 10
  15. HELP! I've tried searching here and couldn't find an answer to my problem. I made a photography template. I figured since I import templates in PSD format I could export it the same way. Well, when I go to export in PSD format, and then reopen, everything that was suppose to be in text is now a pixel layer. I'm making templates for others so I need the text layers to be editable, but they are not when I go to reopen them. Is there something I am missing? How do I keep it a layer in it's text and not pixel when I export psd? Pictures below to show what I'm talking about if it helps. Thanks!
  16. Hi, i have a problem when open PSD file. I cannot edit text layer? Is to possible to fix it ? In photoshop this layer is editable. Thanks.
  17. My experience (in brief) : I bought AD mostly for UI/UX design and some illustration design. Overall my experience is good. Some good things : - I felt it addressed a lot of problems that photoshop and illustrator had when it comes to UI Design. - Exporting Persona is great. - Overall it's good even though i haven't used it extensively. Problem is when i am finished with the design. I am having trouble giving my clients the source file. Only that is keeping me from leaving Adobe completely. Reason : 1. Most don't use Affinity Designer. 2. Png Export is great but clients/developers need source file : Psd, Ai or sketch. 3. PSD export has some issues e.g. exporting of text, gradient are two which i came across for now. So can't give PSD export files. Solution (Feature Requests) : 1. A free affinity designer trial. It can have limited features. But the client and developer can use them to get attributes. So no need for PSD export. I can just tell them to download the trial version. Problem solved to a certain extent. 2. Making PSD export files better. Making the text editable and solving other issues. [Problem with this] This is a tough one. Adobe is not the only competitor. There is also sketch which is getting popular day by day. Then there is XD. So making export perfect for all this is time consuming, inefficient. *3. Integration with web apps like invisionApp, Zeplin, Avacode or Sympli (I think Sympli is working on affinity designer version). This will solve many problems. It will reduce the need to make PSD export perfect. Affinity can then stand as a UI/UX tool on it's own. Similar to Sketch. Sketch doesn't need to export their files to PSD. 4. Plugins. There are different types of plugins some will make the workflow easy and some are important because it allows integration with web apps. (Mentioned in point 3) I would suggest it would be better if they can collaborate with InvisionApp. Reason : -InvisionApp supports both windows and mac users unlike many tools like principle and filnto etc. - A decent prototyping tool. - Inspect feature is similar to Zeplin, Avacode or Sympli. Reducing the need to give PSD source files to client. - Motion (still in progress) : Competitor to Principle/Flinto. I have read in many posts that these features are being highly sought after and lack of it is sadly becoming a problem in replacing Adobe / Sketch with Affinity Designer for UI/UX designers.
  18. Hi there, m name is Liam. I'm basically a total rookie. I have just started web design. I am trying to use PSD mock-ups I've downloaded from a free resource website. I can open them, but the smart image feature doesn't work. I just want my images to fit in automatically and scale. I have seen a video online, but that was from 2015. I'm not sure if I'm downloading them correctly, or opening them correctly. Any help please? thanks
  19. Hello I exported an affinity file as PSD. I opened it with photoshop cs6 and tried to edit the text. It seems i can't edit the text as it was not exported as editable text. Same was the case for import but it was solved from Preference option. Is there a way to export text as text for PSD? Most of my client will not PSD export as they don't have AD.
  20. I'm no expert, but would be interested in Affinity if it were capable of producing product mockups like you can in PhotoShop. PS is difficult for someone like me, but if there were an easy way of applying, say book cover designs to photos of books with blank covers, and which deals easily with lighting effects, reflections and textures, then I'd be keen. Another example: apply a t-shirt design on a creased up t-shirt, so that the design maps onto the texture. I think there are psd templates in Photoshop for this kind of thing. Can it be done in Affinity?
  21. Guys congrats on the 1.5 launch, amazing and incredible improvements, Affinity is changing the landscape, very exciting times! Here's suggestion for improving the way AP handles AP>PSD exporting, along with another issue I've posted about where AP crops layers it rasterizes — don't crop my layers even if you need to rasterize them! :) Anyway, it would be great to have an app preference to allow more granularity when rasterizing unsupported layers from AP into PSD from the point of view of non-destructive editing. The current behavior rasterizes both the source layer and any associated Live Filters/etc not supported by PSD format. This obviously destroys the original source layer as it has to be rasterzied. In the interest of preserving a non-destructive workflow, what I'm proposing would do the same thing, but leave the original source layer in the layer stack, either deactivated under the newly rasterized layer and renamed original layer name - rasterized, or group the newly rasterized layer and source layer in a folder on the stack while leaving the source layer turned off, and name the group original layer name - rasterized and the other layers appropriately. In this way, one retain some editablity of the rasterized layer in relation to it's original state – for example I can control it's opacity and be able to scale back the no-longer-editable live effect, and of course I have access to the original layer in case I want to try something else in PSD... Thanks for your consideration and thank you for your amazing efforts!
Danke. Google: Congratulations on the release of Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. I start PSD directly from the 3D app (Cinema4d) and change from AF to AD and back. Now save as PSD. Now, however, all vectors are lost, because they become pixels when the PSD is loaded and changed in the 3D app. Would not it be a great idea, side by side, paralell ... as selection * .Appphoto, * .Afdesign, * .PSD, * .Tiff etc. under the same name to save and if necessary a correction to the native format. Disk space is cheap and the extra native format is like a backup. For me that would be a wonderful carefree package. Thank you.
  23. Hello, I saw few threads with the same question, but there were no answers since 2015 year. So now, when Windows version is available, is it possible to export Affinity Designer project as fully editable (including text layers) PSD file? I'm really struggling with it. Maybe there are other solutions how to avoid this issue?
  24. Can I open older Adobe AI, PSD, and EPS files in Affinity Designer and work with them with out problems?
  25. Hello, First of all, I want to say that I'm very happy how Affinity Designer Beta is going since it lunched - app and it's features are working amazing imo and I'm looking through for future releases. I was testing how importing and exporting feature for PSD files works (most of my mates works on Photoshop, so it's a crucial thing in my office) and I find it problematic - all text lines and paragraphs are rasterized (see attached screenshot). I found quick solution for this problem by exporting files to PDF in Photoshop, but still I need extra application to make it work. Is this a thing that you're working on, or should I be aware of this issue in final Windows release? Best regards, Mateusz
