My experience (in brief) : I bought AD mostly for UI/UX design and some illustration design. Overall my experience is good. Some good things : - I felt it addressed a lot of problems that photoshop and illustrator had when it comes to UI Design. - Exporting Persona is great. - Overall it's good even though i haven't used it extensively. Problem is when i am finished with the design. I am having trouble giving my clients the source file. Only that is keeping me from leaving Adobe completely. Reason : 1. Most don't use Affinity Designer. 2. Png Export is great but clients/developers need source file : Psd, Ai or sketch. 3. PSD export has some issues e.g. exporting of text, gradient are two which i came across for now. So can't give PSD export files. Solution (Feature Requests) : 1. A free affinity designer trial. It can have limited features. But the client and developer can use them to get attributes. So no need for PSD export. I can just tell them to download the trial version. Problem solved to a certain extent. 2. Making PSD export files better. Making the text editable and solving other issues. [Problem with this] This is a tough one. Adobe is not the only competitor. There is also sketch which is getting popular day by day. Then there is XD. So making export perfect for all this is time consuming, inefficient. *3. Integration with web apps like invisionApp, Zeplin, Avacode or Sympli (I think Sympli is working on affinity designer version). This will solve many problems. It will reduce the need to make PSD export perfect. Affinity can then stand as a UI/UX tool on it's own. Similar to Sketch. Sketch doesn't need to export their files to PSD. 4. Plugins. There are different types of plugins some will make the workflow easy and some are important because it allows integration with web apps. (Mentioned in point 3) I would suggest it would be better if they can collaborate with InvisionApp. Reason : -InvisionApp supports both windows and mac users unlike many tools like principle and filnto etc. - A decent prototyping tool. - Inspect feature is similar to Zeplin, Avacode or Sympli. Reducing the need to give PSD source files to client. - Motion (still in progress) : Competitor to Principle/Flinto. I have read in many posts that these features are being highly sought after and lack of it is sadly becoming a problem in replacing Adobe / Sketch with Affinity Designer for UI/UX designers.

I'm no expert, but would be interested in Affinity if it were capable of producing product mockups like you can in PhotoShop. PS is difficult for someone like me, but if there were an easy way of applying, say book cover designs to photos of books with blank covers, and which deals easily with lighting effects, reflections and textures, then I'd be keen. Another example: apply a t-shirt design on a creased up t-shirt, so that the design maps onto the texture. I think there are psd templates in Photoshop for this kind of thing. Can it be done in Affinity?

Guys congrats on the 1.5 launch, amazing and incredible improvements, Affinity is changing the landscape, very exciting times! Here's suggestion for improving the way AP handles AP>PSD exporting, along with another issue I've posted about where AP crops layers it rasterizes — don't crop my layers even if you need to rasterize them! :) Anyway, it would be great to have an app preference to allow more granularity when rasterizing unsupported layers from AP into PSD from the point of view of non-destructive editing. The current behavior rasterizes both the source layer and any associated Live Filters/etc not supported by PSD format. This obviously destroys the original source layer as it has to be rasterzied. In the interest of preserving a non-destructive workflow, what I'm proposing would do the same thing, but leave the original source layer in the layer stack, either deactivated under the newly rasterized layer and renamed original layer name - rasterized, or group the newly rasterized layer and source layer in a folder on the stack while leaving the source layer turned off, and name the group original layer name - rasterized and the other layers appropriately. In this way, one retain some editablity of the rasterized layer in relation to it's original state – for example I can control it's opacity and be able to scale back the no-longer-editable live effect, and of course I have access to the original layer in case I want to try something else in PSD... Thanks for your consideration and thank you for your amazing efforts!

Hello, I saw few threads with the same question, but there were no answers since 2015 year. So now, when Windows version is available, is it possible to export Affinity Designer project as fully editable (including text layers) PSD file? I'm really struggling with it. Maybe there are other solutions how to avoid this issue?

Hello, First of all, I want to say that I'm very happy how Affinity Designer Beta is going since it lunched - app and it's features are working amazing imo and I'm looking through for future releases. I was testing how importing and exporting feature for PSD files works (most of my mates works on Photoshop, so it's a crucial thing in my office) and I find it problematic - all text lines and paragraphs are rasterized (see attached screenshot). I found quick solution for this problem by exporting files to PDF in Photoshop, but still I need extra application to make it work. Is this a thing that you're working on, or should I be aware of this issue in final Windows release? Best regards, Mateusz

I know it maybe hard to do because the PSD files from PS have different structures from Affinity, but It's going to be perfect if it can do correctly. Please try my file.. It only happens to text. I set text stoke effect in PS at 1px, but the imported result is 5.3px. However I am really happy with the RC1 version. Various bugs have been fixed and almost everything run correctly. Cheers. test_PSDtext.psd

Question! And thanks in advance. Is it possible to save a document as a Photoshop file and NOT render the type uneditable? I have tried several different options, in both APhoto and ADesigner and all result in type rendered pixel. I was able to save in PDF and then open it back in APhoto but my client says that upon opening the file in Photoshop all texts are pixels.

Hi! So what I need to to be able to create a vector object within Designer and export a PSD file that within Photoshop is the vector object and its a shape layer. Is this possible? I just want to get a editable vector shape into Photoshop (Photoshop is being a real jerk with getting vectors into the program as shapes... :P)

So, i was trying to export a document to PSD but afte i set it to export it nothing happens, i've tried waiting but nothing, in very rare ocasions it actually starts to render the file but it doesn't show any progress, the progress bar just stays at the beggining like forever. Is this a common issue right now or is it just happening to me? UPDATE 1: It seems to be the document, i tried exporting a different one and it gives no problems, i'm gonna try to copy the elements from this one to a new one. UPDTATE 2: I tried recreating the first artboard of the document on a new one, everything worked well until the moment i saved the document, after i saved it i was unable to export it as PSD, after i hit save (in the export window) nothing happens, and nothing new shows in the history window (normally when u export it shows something new), i'm gonna try exporting from the export persona and see what happens UPDATE 3: It seems like the problem is in the export option, if i open the document and try to export individual png files from the export persona it gives no trouble, i can also export it as PDF from the "file" menu, but, if i try to export it as PSD from the "file" menu then nothing happens and i cannot export it in any other way, not even in persona. Is there any other way to export as PSD?

Hi there, I'm trying to work with a .psd file in Affinity Photo and having trouble getting it to work correctly. I tried searching the forum and I found that it may be automatically rasterizing smart objects? Is there a different way that Affinity works to 'edit' when Photoshop asks to 'Right Click to Edit'? Thanks in advance and apologies if this is a simple question! With that said - does anyone know of any t-shirt mock up templates made specifically for Photo/Designer? :) Cheers, Tanner

Hello, I'm working with your Photo Trial software. My intention is to use it for compositing in Final Cut Pro X. I currently use Photoshop for this purpose. My workflow is to export frames from FCPX, open them in Photoshop where I create my masks and knockouts, then import them to FCPX where I assemble my composite shots. Unfortunately, I find that the images I create in your software and export as PSDs open as a blank white frames in FCPX. I tried exporting using a variety of PSD settings (including the FCPX preset), but the result is the same. The exported Affinity files will open correctly in Photoshop, and if I save them from Photoshop (without any changes), they will import correctly into FCPX. Anyone having success with this sort of thing?

I have a one layer doc with a mask on it and i am trying to open it in PS. I exported it with all possible options and PS says there's a disk error. AP won't open either it says could not be parsed. What is happening?

I wrote the report already. Affinity Photo is still exporting to psd incorrect. Just different result exporting to jpg (result is similar to what I see in Photo app) and psd or png (all masks are incorrect, gaps appears where was perfect joints). Similar situation with Designer. I exported in all file formats and png is terrible — opacity gradients like shadows are ugly, eps is terrible — all objects are misplaced a bit, svg is ok). So all your apps has problems with export and I am trying, trying to use it for different operations but I must use Photoshop and Illustrator finally because I am just wasting time. Software is great, I so love it but your terrible export is making me crazy and I can't use it with another software because I can get perfect result only with jpg, even PNG is bad. Do something with it please Here is previously attached screen capture video to explain the problem. Affinity bug.mp4.zip Screenshots: post-18436-0-44075800-1450183254.png post-18436-0-91374300-1450183280.png PS: jpg export was bad too but now it is ok, rasterizing feature (like on video example) and another formats exporting are still terrible. PPS: I am confused. . . When I am exporting to jpg with Export Persona to jpg, JPG file is terrible like on screenshots. When I am exporting to jpg with File-Export, image is ok.

Hi everyone, I have Affinity photo and having big issues with it: 1. It doesn't read the fonts from PSD files, so all the files look messed up until i fix it manually myself (the fonts inside the psd are not on my mac and the suggested fonts never look aligned ). 2. Once i export the file as PSD, the text can not be edited anymore after opening the PSD. 3. When i export the file as PDF for print, the pictures don't look as sharp and become kind of bright unlike in the original file, so i need to export as PNG instead to keep the look as the original. I am using this app for designing brochures and ads. The question is: Would it help if i'll buy Affinity Designer, or that app has the same core design/bugs? The thing is that Affinity Photo gives me ALL i need, but these bugs.... Thanx, in advance.

Preservation of live text when saving as a PSD would be a huge help in working with other designers and developers who are working on PC's and can't run Designer. Is this on any roadmap?

Hi, Added artboards was a great idea. Now I am looking forward to creating Smart Object like it is in PS. You can add a file and change it to Smart Object. In example it allows you to edit only this element from whole art. It would be great to work with Smart Objects created in Photoshop already. It is the only reason I still work in PS at least I have already bought Affinity Designer. Great job so far. Regards Maciej

Downloaded the RC and banged out a multi layered PSD to the Final Cut Pro X setting and all I can say is "Thank Heavens!" Great Job, full control on the layers and now I can really start spending CC money on getting a new MacPro! Thank you. Lawrence Pro Certified
