  1. When opening a multi-layered PSD file where one or more layers show as Embedded in AP, the aspect ratio of these layers is distorted, always squished in the horizontal direction. These embedded layers contain a single pixel element, which show up as black regardless of the actual color. This same distortion & color problem is seen in the window that opens when double clicking the embedded layer. PSD files that exhibit this bug opened without error in previous versions of AP. These files also open without error in other apps. • Affinity Photo 1.8.3 • macOS 10.14.6
  2. Hello. I've been looking at the new 1.8 version. I have Photo, Designer and Publisher, so it'll take a bit to review all the improvements. But I was interested in testing the PSD embedded support, because I have several PSD mockups that can be used now. I faced a problem when I was testing one of such mockups. I noticed that, if I import the mockup without setting the support for smart objects, the embedded file is imported as a rendered layer, but it keeps the original PS layer fx. Here is a pic ilustrating my point: But if I set the support for smart objects in APhoto, then I get a embedded file, but the layer effects are missing. Here you have the same file imported with smart objects enabled. Is it a bug, or am i missing something ? Thanks for reading.
  3. Having the ability to export text as text instead of having them convert to bitmap when exporting to PSD would be super cool. This would really make the work flow so much more flexible. I believe we all agree yeah?
  4. Hi, I'm trying to export a file (73 MB) from Designer to a Psd file. I need to retain editability - when I select the correct preset, the 'Estimated File Size' box keeps saying 'Calculating...' but doesn't finish calculating. It allows me to click on the Export button, and then the window disappears but nothing happens. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks
  5. Hey! when trying to open a PSD file which contains fonts not on my system - i don't get any message notifying me about this issue. I know that PDF import let me know when a font is missing but why this is not working for PSD files?
  6. Hello! They are always some bugs in Affinity Photo with some mockups as in this attachment. Is there a solution to this problem? Thanks for your answers! Magazine-Mockup.psd
  7. Two critical bugs when exporting a file as a PSD file. 1. Any layer marked hidden in Affinity Photo shows up in the exported PSD file as empty. 2. In the exported PSD file, all layers are clipped to the size of the canvas in the Affinity Photo document. The first bug can be worked around by unhiding the layer before export. A pain but doable until fixed. The second bug is fatal. We are looking at buying about 10 licences to deploy Affinity Photo to our team but we have to maintain compatibility with Photoshop as some work will go outside where that is their design package. So any layer that extends beyond the canvas in a document is rendered useless by Affinity Photo clipping to the canvas. This means we will have to look for an alternate application. Which is a real frustration as AP does so many things so very well. Can you hyper-escalate this bug to the development team and provide some kind of workaround in the interim? By the way, importing of PSD files—some with some pretty esoteric filters, adjustment layers, masks, etc.—works very well in Photo. Kudos for that guys. Affinity Photo 1.7.3 on macOS 10.14.6.
  8. Hello, I was hoping someone might be able to help. I'm fairly new to using Affinity Photo/Design and Publisher on OSX. Recently, I imported an old PSD template file with multiple layers into Affinity Photo 1.7.3 and it looked absolutely perfect! After adding a few extra logos as layers, i saved the file as both PSD and also as standard Affinity Photo file (AFPhoto) and for some reason when i open the PSD file, all the extra layers I added are shown, but the source files in those layers are missing (blank). I'm not sure why it would be doing this as when i saved the file everything was showing up correctly. Although when opening the AFPhoto file it all looks fine. It would be great to have copies of the files in both PSD and AFPhoto format, and I would be very grateful if anyone can help me figure out why the files are missing when exporting and reloading as PSD. Maybe i'm missing a step somewhere, but i though everything would be self-contained in the PSD file when saving? (My only guess is that i copied the layer images files to clipboard and then pasted this into the layer files. Could this be part of the problem?) Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
  9. Hello, I need to export .psd files from Designer to Procreate. When I try, pressing the "share" button from designer and I send it to procreate, procreate gives an error message that says in spanish "No se puede importar la ilustración. La ilustración excede las capacidades del dispositivo". The translate into english would be "The illustration can't be imported. It exceed the capacity of the device". To be able to export the file, I have to save it on drive, open it on Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop in the computer, erase the background layer, save it again as psd, and then open it in procreate. I'd need to export the files directly from designer to procreate to save time. Would it be possible to fix this with some actualization? Thank you very much. Regards.
  10. Hi! I just recently purchased AFF Photo & am using the Windows version. My question is I'm editing a PSD mockup with smart objects & works great with adding designs to pixel layers however I can't get the colors to change on the objects that are HSL adjustment layers. When I double click it brings up the HSL wheel however no matter what I do I can't get the color to change. I've attached a screen shot of what I'm working on. You'll see I've selected the lamp shade I'm trying to change color on. Thanks for any help in advance!
  11. When I started using Affinity products first, I thought it's not possible to import PSD file and edit the texts. However, I searched on Google and came to know that it's quite possible by turning on "Import PSD text as text rather than bitmap" option on the Preferences. It'd be great if we see this option turned on by default on the upcoming updates What do you think friends?
  12. can someone please update this thread? it's so frustrating when other users are having the same issue and trying to find a resolution but there's no updated post to show how to correct. I'm having the same problem. I had a client ask me to recreate his logo, but add my own ideas. I retraced his logo with the pen tool in vector persona. I exported eps and sent to supplier for printing on t-shirts. however, she said my work is rasterized. When she opens the file, it looks like bitmap! When I send it to myself, I see the same issue! However, when I send the original AD file, it's perfect and all layers are there and editable. This is driving me absolutely insane! Please advise. Spare me from wasting money on AI.
  13. Hi, I am working on a book project with Affinity Publisher and I have noticed many problems when I use psd images (imported or linked, no difference): -Alpha channel not recognised: if the psd has more than 1 level, the alpha channel is not "seen" by Affinity Publisher, so it is not possible to have a txt box following the line of the image, wrapping it nicely, but the program recognises only the shape of the image box. - psd with different levels, the program does not see the file as it should be: some levels are missing, some other levels are misplaced, some effects are not there.... is this a problem of compatibility? I am forced to save all files in jpg or PNG if with an alpha channel? Could you please give me some advise? I would like to use Affinity Publisher, it is very powerful, my books are very graphic. Adobe Indesign is far less integrated and it takes me more time in achieve everything I want, while Affinity Publisher is far faster...but, I I would like to use psd files with all the levels I need: in such a way I can change everything I want easily. thanks a lot for your help. Any suggestion is really welcomed! Andrea
  14. I have made a big boo-boo. Basically my naive self thought it was a good idea to construct from scratch a 70page A5 booklet in AD. Now I realised I should probably export this as a PSD and work on it on my laptop. Before, AD would crash when I select the file. It'd dim and load for ages, stay open for 2 seconds and then crash. I restarted my iPad and somehow that managed to fix that issue. My file stays open now but I don't dare do any editing on it. Problem now though is that I am trying to actually export it as a PSD but it is taking 5 million years to generate the export. Is there anything I can do about this or is all hope lost now? My boss isn't gonna be too happy eek!
  15. Hi, i have just tried the Affinity Photo trial, please move this topic if i'm posting in a wrong section. I have two problems with AP during the limited time i used it, first of all, the patterns break when loading a PSD file, i'm not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere or if there's a workaround for this as i'm very new to the software and i couldn't figure out a way to get it working, short of recreating the pattern and trying to apply it in a similar way as it was looking before. Was this an issue with my particular instalation/software/hardware configuration or is this an issue you are aware of/working on resolving? The second issue i had goes a bit deeper, so in... Affinity Photo's biggest competitor... you can apply multiple layer effects of the same kind to the same layer, allowing you to create for example two outlines or a gradient glow/shadow. I didn't find anything of that nature in this program, furthermore PSD files i opened with AP that had multiple layer effects applied to them broke, not permanently, just didn't display properly. You know what i mean. Maybe that option is already there but i was just not able to find it, and then why would imported files break if that was the case? Is this also something you are working on resolving? Overall i was very pleasantly surprised with the program, the workflow was pretty similar to what i'm used to, might even consider giving it a shot past screwing around with a few files and effects on a trail version but those two issues just sprung up on me during the first time i tested it and they are a pretty big deal to me. I don't know if that's an official statement but i've read many times in reviews and recommendations of the program that it is able to properly interpret complex PSD files without issues and breaking patterns and layer effects are a pretty big issue in my workflow.
  16. I’m having some difficulties opening a few PSD files in Affinity Photo : the application instantly crashes. Meanwhile… Affinity Designer does open the file without any problem ? Even saving the files as Affinity Designer files, opening them in Affinity Photo crashes the application. 11 low.psd
  17. I have been trying all of the different options to export to PSD from Affinity Publisher, Affinity Designer, and Affinity Photo, and nothing is working. All it gives me is the message "An error occurred while exporting to: (File location). I just installed all of the latest updates to versions 1.7.2 I've also made sure that all of the layer names are short and simple. I've tried all of the presets for PSD (preserve accuracy, preserve editability, and Final Cut Pro X) Is there something I'm missing? Ultimately, my goal is to export to a file type that can be opened by Adobe programs with he layers in tact. Thanks!
  18. So, I use a lot of colourings to edit my images with- and tamper with the blending modes and so on. Most of these colourings are PSD files, with a pixel image and the effect as a group. I was wondering if there was a way to keep the grouped colouring and have it opened within Affinity versus opening the entire PSD separately and then copying and pasting the colouring. I have tried exporting the group as an LUT with the 4 different export options, but none have seemed to work. Unless I can create an AFTONEMAP file for the tone-mapping persona, it seems the only thing to do is open the PSD's separately. I hope I don't cause confusion, and here is an example of what I am talking about: https://www.deviantart.com/allscallie/art/Spring-Break-By-Allscallie-796232775
  19. Hello, I was able to successfully open a PSD file but when I click on the text, nothing happens. I can't edit it. In Photoshop, I simply can click on the text and edit. Why am I unable to do the same thing in Affinity? I'm using a trial version. Thank you, John
  20. I downloaded the trial version of Designer, I already have a PagePlus X9 license. When I open a pdf both programs text layers are often not recognized as text but as graphics. In this video https://affinity.serif.com/it/tutorials/designer/desktop/video/301604837 we see that the text is imported correctly. I opened a pdf file and ai file and in both cases the text was not recognized. This function is important for me, is it possible to solve the problem?
  21. Hi Everyone, My Explanation: I'm new to Affinity programs and I'm in the process of preparing all of my PSD files for Affinity Designer & Photo. I've been using Adobe Photoshop for a long time during that time I have created a lot "Smart Objects" within my files. Yesterday, in adobe photoshop, I spent two hours preparing my main device templates and eight hours preparing one single file to be imported and used in Affinity Designer. I went into each smart object individually and pulled the full resolution images, shapes, etc.. and placed them on a separate artboard in the main file. Below is an example of a simple template that has multiple layers of smart objects. This example has several instances of 3 layers of smart objects. Even though that doesn't add up to too many smart objects in this file I have lots of files that are similar, or even more complex, and the method that I have been using is incredibly time-consuming. My question: Has anyone found a better way of preparing smart objects, or assets within smart objects, for Affinity Designer & Photo?
  22. Hello, I'm an old Mac hand, but a newbie when it comes to Affinity. I have some layered Photoshop PSD files consisting of text and textures. Most of my work is in video editing in FCPX. I'm trying to avoid the expensive Adobe licensing fees for PS, because I wouldn't be using it that much. I was really impressed with the intro to Affinity, both proprietary and clips on YouTube; and especially so for the ability to work with PSD files. I've started in on the Affinity tutorials, but so far have not gotten a handle on how to unlock the different layers of the particular file I'd like to change with my text. And it looks like the learning curve is longer than the deadline allotted for the titles. I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice or steps in how to unpack the layers, if possible, and change the texts within. This is the link to the attached PSD file I'd like to edit: old-movie-01.psd. I'm hoping that once I know how to access the layers (again, if possible) I'll be able to take it from there. In any event, thanks very much in advance for your time and consideration! - All the best, David old-movie-01.psd
  23. hello community, I'm using the latest version of Affinity Photo and I need to export raws (NEF) files to PSD. Native files weigh about 28,000 KB. By opting for a PSD that retains precision, AP generates a file 10 times heavier than 278,000 kb! Ditto if I opt for small files. Yet AP was renowned for generating mpoins heavy PSDs that those produced by Photoshop itself. I do not understand. An idea ? Thank you.
  24. Hello I exported an affinity file as PSD. I opened it with photoshop cs6 and tried to edit the text. It seems i can't edit the text as it was not exported as editable text. Same was the case for import but it was solved from Preference option. Is there a way to export text as text for PSD? Most of my client will not PSD export as they don't have AD.
  25. I got the official Instagram logo files from here https://en.instagram-brand.com/assets/icons, and I opened up the .psd file they provide (see attached IG_Glyph_Fill.psd) with Designer. However I got something which doesn't fully look like the Instagram logo (see screenshot attached). It sounds there is a mask issue or something like that? Can someone give me the steps to get the Instagram logo properly drawn? IG_Glyph_Fill.psd
