  1. Hi there, I'm working with a document currently that has several embedded .afdesign files (as they were created in Affinity originally). However, when I export the document, all these elements are rasterised and become ugly. This is an issue as I'd like to be able to have one logo which I make tweaks to, embedded in some mockups. Is there a way around this? I really like the way embedding is implemented other than this. Cheers, D
  2. I am trying to migrate from Adobe Illustrator to AD I created a simple document containing only PDF text exported from Pages and Numbers. Fonts were embedded. The final document was then exported from AD as a PDF when viewed using Preview on Mac the result is blurred until I zoom in whereupon it becomes crisp. the same PDF when viewed using Adobe Reader is sharp all the time. If I create a similar document with previous workflow using Illustrator, the resulting PDF is sharp when viewed in either Preview or Reader I have attached 2 files hoping to illustrate the problem - one has AD in the filename, the other ai (for Illustrator) Any suggestion please? For the time being I'm having to revert to Illustrator (unwillingly) test AD PDF output.pdf test ai PDF output.pdf
  3. Hi All, I am a new user here. Really love the AD and amazed by its feature and speed. However, I just found out the clipping mask with gradient effect I made in AD were pixelated after export in .eps and .pdf file. I didn't check "Rasterise unsupported effects" but the result is just disappointing. The original file in AD looks sharp when zoomed in, but not the case in AI and PDF. Can anyone help me here? thanks! AI AD test.afdesign
  4. Hi there, i'm a newbie. I was designen a poster for the university an. Now I wanted to print it in DIN A1. But everytime I export it with to PDF I have a big white area. Can anyone help me. I need to print it tomorrow. Thank you very much Plakat Gewächshaus.afdesign
  5. Hi, as part of my work, sometimes I have to open existing PDF documents (created in Adobe's kingdom by ID) and edit the text and/or add/change some images, export again as PDF and re-integrate in the multi-page document (a catalogue of sorts). For this I pull out the page from the document (I tried both dragging it out and opening the entire document in AD and selecting the target page, just to make sure), applying the changes and exporting (both with and without slices) the page as PDF for print. However the output file tends to be relatively huge (20X or more than original!) as compared to the page I dragged out of the original document (in the example 255 kb VS 7 mb). I tried to play around with export options and I managed to get it down to 3+ mb, but at this point the quality in unacceptable. Could you please shed some light on this? I'm attaching sample files. Thanks a lot and BTW, looking forward Affinity Publisher. I apologise in advance if my lack of knowledge on PDF lead to this. 04.pdf PRESENTAZIONE-ADRIANODESIGN-2015-03 (dragged).pdf
  6. Hi All, I am very much a newbie to AD and this is my first post, so thanks in advance for your patience. I making the switch to Designer from Corel Draw, which I have been using since v.5 (now v.X5) (bring on the .cdr import filter!). Unfortunately, I seem to be misunderstanding something about the process of exporting in AD. Now, to become familiar with AD, I have been playing with several simple designs (plans really) that include a base bitmap (its own layer) that is overlain by vector and text layers. When I export the design as seen on the screen (File > Export > PDF ('for print')) the exported file only shows one vector layer has exported plus some text layers. The other vector layers, text and one other image (a logo) are not present. I have tried exporting after selecting all the relevant layers (either by click-drag the Move tool, or selecting each layer I want to export using Command (click) from the Layers list) with the same result. When I click on where the image should be (listed as an embedded object in the Layers panel) a light blue rectangle, that approximates the size and location of the image, appears. I have tried the same process, but chosen jpeg as the export format, but again only one layer actually is exported. I will be very grateful to anyone who can assist me in overcoming my ineptitude. 7. Good morning, I have some questions about PDF export setting. Context : I'm working in a printshop, we are working on PDF files with our customers. Color Management -> What is the color motor for conversion on these software ? -> It could be replace Adobe ACE, Adobe PDF Libray, or specific conversion tools without any problems ? (conversion ICC or Device Link in RVB -> CMJN ; CMJN -> CMJN ; or anything else). -> I have see that my PDF was converted by Apple Quartz on my PDF (exported by Adobe Designer). will you add some other options in the future ? -> How is managed transparency in your PDF ? Export setting -> do you use the Adobe PDF Print Engine for export PDF (APPE) ? in the future ? -> in the future, did you add other advanced setting for exporting PDF ? (like PDF/X certified, PDF version 1.4, etc.) I know that my questions concerned more an "Affinity Publisher" than Designer or Photo, but I think the same question make sens on both. Regards, Senjou'
  8. Hi, I often design some assets for mobile apps and I usually encounter this problem. At design time, I'm used to use the "Erase" mode for some shapes (using compound shapes and/or cutting the underlaying shapes does not work in cases I need to use gradient fills or colored strokes). During export to vector formats, these "Erase" effects get rasterized, which is not what I need for the mobile app assets. In the end, I have to make copies of all the designs and "flatten" them manually, which is really slow and tedious process... I have to expand all strokes, convert many shapes to curves and make boolean cuts them with the "Erase" shapes over them. So, would it be possible to either support vectorized output of the "Erase" effect, or at least add some automated flattening procedure for layers / groups? Thanks for considering. This would be a huge time saver in my work flow :)
  9. Okies, so I was basically trying to create an eBook, and now I have 26 Affinity Designer files (of pages) that I would like to convert to a .PDF. Is there any easier way to do this other than to painstakingly convert all of the files separately to a .PDF and merge them in Acrobat? Thanks!
  10. When exporting to a PDF, my embedded documents are rasterized, which is problematic for printing. Please rework this system so that, upon export, the objects from the embedded document are "extracted" so that the PDF can contain all vectored assets.
  11. Hi team! Why some exports to PDF resulted on a "big white square" on Windows PC? On Mac OS and iOS I can open the file normally but not on Windows PC -> Except if I open the PDF with Chrome on Windows PC! INSULA - Côtés de scène.pdf
  12. Hi everyone ! I did a quick search but couldn't find what I was looking for so I am wondering, does anyone have already try to automate his / her workflow for PDF export in AD? I have several AD documents that I need to export in PDF, that would be awesome if someone could lead me in the right direction (maybe using Automator)!
  13. Hey again, I have to deliver a GRACoL coated PDF for printing frequently. - Is that possible with Affinity? I didn´t see a matching profile. - Are there plans to add that profile (quite common in the US) - Is there any profile close by GRACoL (and I mean close enough to work as a professional printing solution)? Thanks in advance for any help, David
  14. I'm hoping to move from Illustrator to Affinity. I have a PDF file that contains a small icon which I'm using for an iPhone app. I created the file using Illustrator, and have been using that PDF without problem. When I import the file into Affinity, make some changes, and then export as a PDF however, the image looks horrible in the app. It's blotchy and does not appear to contain opacity information (everything is at 100%). Am I missing something?
  15. Hi I would like to be able to convert a pdf (made form InDesign or Scribus) into a Afiinity Publisher file. That would be awesome! Also interesting: converting or importing Scribus files into Affinity Publisher. Both features would release me from InDesign and Scribus completely! Ton
  16. How do I put several sheets or pages and then export as a PDF? I need to do a digital book Necesito saber si se puede poner mas hojas para luego exportar en PDF.
  17. How do I put several sheets or pages and then export as a PDF? I need to do a digital book. Como hago para poner varias hojas o páginas y luego exportar como un PDF? Yo necesito hacer un libro digital. En Corel Draw se puede hacer.
  18. When I embedd several AD files into a new AD-file and export this new file as a pdf, the elements obviously are not exported as vector files. Exporting the source files in the same way separately, let me zoom into the pdf file without the fonts getting pixalated. Is this a bug or how can I set AD to treat the embedded files as vector files? Thanks
  19. Congratulations on creating this app. I just started testing it and it shows great promise. I look forward to working through the Beta release. I usually use Pixelmator (or Ps) to open and crop a pdf of a piece of sheet music to prepare for publishing it in a document. It opens fine in PXM with transparent background but in Afp musical elements are misplaced (key signature and notes) and no transparency. Are there limits presently or other criteria a pdf must meet for opening correctlly? Steve
  20. Trying to export to PDF to get business cards printed. I imported a PSD template from moo.com with the right color spaces / etc. Tried importing my logo in EPS and SVG, which looks fine on screen. But when exporting to PDF it rasterizes. Afraid it's going to print terribly and considering just exporting a massive PNG instead. Disclaimer: I basically never do print work and have used Photoshop for under 3 hours in my life. Affinity Photo is a totally different app for me (Fireworks to Sketch user).
  21. Hi, there. 1. Is there any way to export all layers as PDF ? 2. Or, any shortcut key to export file to PDF ? thanks
  22. Hello! I'm not quite sure where to post this, but I couldn't find anything about it, so here goes: I'm making a logo to be printed as a car sticker, and it has a lot of gradients and some line pressure going on. Client requested that I give it to them as an eps, but unchecking "rasterize gradients" meant that anything with transparency became completely solid. - this using the Beta. I then tried saving as a pdf, which did preserve the look, but rasterized all transparent objects, and removed the line pressure simulation. I opened these files both by using "open..." and "place" in Affinity Designer, and the results were the same. Same thing as the pdf happened when copy-pasting into indesign. Is it even possible to have this kind of transparency in an eps or pdf? And line pressure? Or do these effects have to be rasterized? (Screenshots explaining are linked in the text.) I'm new to using vectors, so sorry if this has a very obvious answer. :) EDIT: And now all the affinity designer files I output are corrupted :/ EDIT: None of the png or eps files i output can be opened by photoshop because it cannot "parse the postscript" or "parse the file." Is this an affinity problem?
  23. As it says above, keep the document's layer structure when the file is exported to pdf format. Thanks
  24. When exporting to PDF, some content gets rasterized (which is not desired). Please, see the attached afdesign file - when exporting to PDF, the result is 25 x 25 px raster. Also, in this file, selection cannot be exported at all. If you select some of the curves (fishes) and export as "Selection without background", the resulting PDF seems to contain no curves, neither raster. Another bug seems to be here with the "Erase" rectangle - if this rectangle is selected along with other curves (fishes), it gets exported ("Selection without background") as standard, visible rectangle (without the "Erase" style). I'm not sure I can identify the real "culprit" - whether is it the "container" rectangle, or the "Erase" rectangle, but the fact is that without further editing, flattening and applying boolean operations, this icon is not exportable properly to PDF. reasterized_export.afdesign
  25. Hi, I am thinking of downloading AD as I believe it will give us everything we require for a new business venture - the way Photoshop and Illustrator has gone subscription based really doesn't help small start up business. A quick question anyway - can you embed fonts before creating a PDF for export? I have searched and I believe AD doesn't support this feature at the moment but I hope to be proven wrong! If you aren't able to do this in AD, can you export as PDF and open in Pages on the same computer and embed fonts there before sending to an external print company? Thanks.
