  1. 1) I made a fairly complex graphic with probably 200+ layers and I aim to animate this graphic, probably in After Effects. I named all my elements and organised them in folders and subfolders so it would be easy to identify what is what when it comes to creating the animation. I'm pretty new to After Effects, so learning how to pull files from Illustrator and move forward. The problem I have is: If I export (to .eps, .pdf or .svg) all the folders vanish. In Illustrator there is simply one folder with all the various layers in it (I'm on Illustrator CC 2015 v.19). If find Illustrator's interface a nightmare. Do I really have to go through 200+layers and put them in folders all over again? 2) Do you have any recommendations for programs other than After Effects (which is great, but very complex for my needs) that would work well in animating something produced in AD?
  2. Hello there... I have bought Affinity Photo and have imported several PDF files that were generated with adobe Illustrator & Photoshop. Unfortunately I get different colored edges, when I import the PDF in Affinity and save it accordingly as a pdf. Is that a bug? Kind regards
  3. Hi all. Maybe this is too much to ask at this time, and I know I've already mentioned this earlier, but I've been testing Affinity Designer periodically for proper spot colour gradient support (sometimes I miss a beta or two and I may skip the one that finally brings that feature to the table, hence my method). I cobbled up two similar files in Affinity and Illustrator, with gradients from spot colour to spot colour, spot colour to white, and spot colour to 0% opacity spot colour, and exported them to .PDF. For good measure, I also threw in a 50% opacity spot colour as a control swatch. After opening both files on Acrobat Pro and checking the Output [separation] Preview, I was a bit disheartened to see that Affinity still supports flat spot colour transparency only, whereas gradients are all converted/flattened into CMYK. For now, I can accept this omission, and the fact that it may be due to technical limitations in Affinity's engine or something, but I'm obviously expecting much more from it in the future (and that may include Affinity Photo duo/multitone support too, perhaps?), especially for colour-critical work like in logos, where tight budgets for print production more often than not call for the use of spot colours (and, yes, that also includes spot colour gradients). Though this would be fairly easy to correct (especially for simpler artwork) via a small trip through Illustrator before sending my work to the printing shop, I would really love to ditch it altogether from my workflow, and this would be yet another proverbial nail in its coffin. Can you comment on the feasibility of such a feature and maybe give us a rough ETA? Thanks guys. Once again, kudos for your great work! Pantone test.afdesign Pantone Test-AD.pdf Pantone Test-AI.pdf
  4. Most of the PDF export options in the Affinity apps are pretty self explanatory but for the PDF/X… options? What advantages/features do they offer? And in what use cases may these be better export options to consider?
  5. I'm running into an issue in the Export Persona at the save location Finder window where the file type always changes from that specified in the settings. It occurred when exporting a PDF and it forces a PNG. Also, in a totally separate file, it forces a JPG from a PNG export. It occurs in both Designer and Photo. Using the generic File > Export seems to work okay but in the PDF document I'm getting terrible defects on the Outer Glow effect similar to this topic. I thought it may have been a bug on my iMac but I tried the same thing on my MacBook with the same result. So I don't think re-installing the apps will correct it. Am I doing something wrong with the settings? My other thought is my files are buggy.
  6. I what like to lock or not allow a PDF that I created in Affinity Designer to be printed by a user only to be used to view the designs. . Is this possible? Thanks for any reply.
  7. Hi, I'm desperately trying to export to a PDF with embedded ICC profile (CMYK in some flavour). My document color space is CMYK/8, I have checked all the options similar to "PDF for export" in the export persona or the export menu, see first screenshot. Still, the PDFs which are created do not contain an ICC profile when I import them into inDesign (second screenshot) or when I open them in Preview. Designer 1.4.1 I got the feeling that I'm missing something very obvious. Any help is highly appreciated. Cheers, Jens
  8. I am trying to export this file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ai7jj8zmawo9i12/Poster%203.afdesign?dl=0 (111MB) as a pdf document. I have tried different settings and color profiles but the result is always the same and the colours are more saturated in the pdf document. I have attached two rasterised version you can compare, one exported directly from Affinity Design and the other is the pdf rasterised by Preview. I have checked that the exported pdf file looks the same in Adobe Acrobat Reader. How can I export to pdf and preserve the colours?
  9. Hello! I don't normally work in creating graphics for print, but one of my clients has requested a print ad. The information from the newspaper says: All ads MUST be submitted in Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format). All fonts and graphics must be embedded. Can I do this with Affinity Designer? Are fonts and graphics embedded by default or is there something I must do to make this happen?
  10. Dear all, I have set up an artboard in Designer, that I now want to export as a PDF, as it will be printed as a poster. Unfortunately the PDF export crashed the program every time and after a reboot, the status bar runs to about 20% and wont move any further. I have already converted all my text sections to curves, but that won't help either. The complete Affinity file is 175 MB, so it would be a problem to upload, I'm afraid. :( Any idea someone?
  11. Does Affinity Photo recognize embedded fonts in a pdf file? I print a lot of wide format graphics and there are times when i need to layout files a certain way that the RIP will not let me and I need to do it in photoshop. When I open the file in AP, if there are fonts involved, it asks me to replace them if they are not available. In PS, it recognizes the embedded fonts and it rasterizes the file without a hitch. Is this a feature that is coming, or a bug? I understand that if I need to make changes to the text, I need the font, but most of the time I just need to convert the file to a raster file. Thanks for any help.
  12. More or less a newbie in photo editing I decided to give Affinity a try. I am quite enthusiastic; it works comfortably and remarkably fast, even with RAW files. Problem: I tried to export a jpg file as pdf. It did not work, neither on my iMac, nor on my Macbook. No idea what went wrong: I tried a workaround, inserting the same jpg file into a Writer document, and received a perfectly normal printable file. Should I wait patiently until the next update?
  13. Hi! I'm trying to export to a PDF for print and am having some issues. When ever I export from Designer to a PDF, the program only exports the bottom half of the project. I have tried this multiple times and to no avail it happens the same everytime. I have even deleted the old file, changed the name, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
  14. A printing service couldn't print my PDF which was created by AD, my settings were for print, I am trying A test with a PDX4 format as given as an option I have outlined/ curved the fonts. I went back to check in the document to see if I missed one font that did not get curved. To my surprise some of them when I select they seem not to have been curved as on the menu indicated, normally when they have been curved the menu selection is gray. I know when you select a line of text in the preview mode the whole line of text is selected and if I do it in the outline mode one letter at a time is selected, that's how I know my text is curved, I can print fine from my iMac. But a service center couldn't, they may not have a certain font so all text is curved. Any clues? Thanks
  15. Hi, I refer to Affinity Designer 1.4.1, I am not able to open Example G.3 from the Adobe pdf reference document; - it opens fine in Adope Reader and in Preview. Nor any other uncompressed pdf that I have tried. Developing my own pdf documents without compression is part of my daily work. I attach the Affinity message I get, and a copy of the pdf. I tried, but did not find a similar request on the forum (couldn't work out how to search for topics) cheers, Jon affinity_message.pdf G3mac.pdf
  16. I seem to have managed to pick up a wonderful AD keyboard template PDF from somewhere, but I have no idea where from (there isn't a "downloads" or "resources" section on the Affinity website which is IMHO an omission). I find templates handy because they speed up the shortcut learning process, a lesson I learned long ago in the days of WordPerfect and Wordstar :). The challenge: I would like to adjust it as the key outlines are too faint for me (on account of the negative correlation between experience and eyesight), so I was wondering if Affinity was willing to release the source of this document (at least, I hope it was done in AD). You can pull the PDF into AD and edit it, but if there is an actual AD starting point I would prefer that, and it would also help others who may have to work with different layouts. So, in summary: 1 - where can others download this AD keyboard shortcut PDF from? 2 - is there a more "AD native" version available? Ditto for Affinity Photo. Cheers! 17. Im trying to export a file in PDF and on my clients computer it keeps saying the file Im sending him is corrupt. Any information is helpful thankyou. -Chris
  18. Not really a request or question but maybe a point to put in literature you produce. I have just created a 6000mm wall infographic for a client, client request 100% dimensioned vector artwork for in-house printing which was all good in Affinity Designer. However on export to PDF discovered that Acrobat is incapable of viewing artwork over 5000mm and all PDFs open blank. I was aware the illustrator and InDesign have maximum artboard dimension of around 5000mm, but had so scale export artwork down for client for PDF proofing.
  19. Hi all, A client wants to have a personalized wedding invite for each of her guests, with their name at the top. Is there a way for me to create an editable PDF of the design (including the font, of course) so that she can add in the names herself? Or will I have to create 100+ unique files of the invite? Thanks!
  20. Hi everyone, I have Affinity photo and having big issues with it: 1. It doesn't read the fonts from PSD files, so all the files look messed up until i fix it manually myself (the fonts inside the psd are not on my mac and the suggested fonts never look aligned ). 2. Once i export the file as PSD, the text can not be edited anymore after opening the PSD. 3. When i export the file as PDF for print, the pictures don't look as sharp and become kind of bright unlike in the original file, so i need to export as PNG instead to keep the look as the original. I am using this app for designing brochures and ads. The question is: Would it help if i'll buy Affinity Designer, or that app has the same core design/bugs? The thing is that Affinity Photo gives me ALL i need, but these bugs.... Thanx, in advance.
  21. I simply want to add and change metadata in pdf-export in designer. At the moment the pathToFile is the pdf-title, some designer-data which is ok, the most other metadata-fields are empty. I would like to change the fields, that I don't have to use Adobe Acrobat after each export only to tweak metadata in exactly the same way. This could be done in export.
  22. Hey, Two of my clients have reported that the PDFs that I have exported from AD are empty. When I open them in OSX environment all seems to be normal. I assume the clients use Windows system. What can cause this? Anyone else having same issues? Thanks! Please see one file example attached to this post. SIXT päädyt - sammuttimella - 3cm bleed.pdf
  23. I'm making a business card in Affinity Designer to be uploaded to and printed by Moo.com. They request designs with text be saved in the PDF/X-1a format (converting text to curves). However, whenever and however I export from Designer text gets rasterised and exhibits edge-pixelation. I've tried every combination of export settings I can come up with (two days I've been trying to do this) but everything gets rasterised on export whatever I do. Why can't the PDF's I export handle vectors? One side of my business card attached (in .afdesign format) LF-Business-Card-BACK.afdesign
  24. Hi, I am thinking of downloading AD as I believe it will give us everything we require for a new business venture - the way Photoshop and Illustrator has gone subscription based really doesn't help small start up business. A quick question anyway - can you embed fonts before creating a PDF for export? I have searched and I believe AD doesn't support this feature at the moment but I hope to be proven wrong! If you aren't able to do this in AD, can you export as PDF and open in Pages on the same computer and embed fonts there before sending to an external print company? Thanks.
  25. Hi, If I export an artwork as a PDF, does this mean it is also a vector file? If not, how can I save my designs in Affinity as vector files? I want to be able to design anything in Affinity and then import it to another program I use, but this other program only accepts vector files. Whoever answers this is saving my life from eternal frustration. Thanks!
